Full textThe question which moves throughout Karl Rahner’s work continues to lay down a principle: how can one make believable and convincing the revelation of God in Jesus to the people of today? This question must be considered again unceasingly in a practical reality of human life. In Rahner’s time, emphasis was placed into the transcendence of God. Since then, occidental culture was transformed: in the beginning of the 21st century, is showed a very obvious tendency of materialism, consumerism, individualism, relativism and secularism. Consequently, there is a tendency to evacuate the divine transcendence. Our research consists in exchanges between Karl Rahner’s theology and Gilles Deleuze’s philosophy, with the purpose of establishing possible conditions of Christian belief today. Deleuze’s philosophy introduces us into a creative process through which we can think radically of God as being at the same time transcendent and immanent. Our approach is developed with eight conceptual hybrids which help understand Rahners’s theology in another perspective and leads to the possibility of a Christian belief for today. Our research opens as well onto the perspective of theology meeting between the theological, philosophical, artistic and scientific worlds. Finally, it helps to enlighten the reality of the new evangelization in Christian Occident.

The real, understood as something impossible to signify, appears to be the point at which philosophers, theologians, and psychoanalysts stumble when they read an account of mystical experience. In fact, mysticism is presented as an impossible real to master through language. Yet, the writing of Teresa of Avila shows that mystical experience, on the contrary, has a close link with the real. To illuminate what of the real is at stake in what, for a mystic, constitutes a singular spiritual experience, we can look to Freud's work on the notion of trace and to the way in which Lacan developed the concept of the real to gain perspective of the mystical theology of Teresa. This dual approach, marked by attention to the boundary between the tangible and the intangible, makes it possible to consider these works as necessary material support for discerning emergent traces of the real. This allows us to postulate that real can be read as a condition of the possibility for the existence of the mystical experience. Thus, Teresa de Avila will be invoked as both a mystic, one who has lived an experience with God, and as a theologian, one who has also pondered this experience. To be able to understand this lived experience as impossible to represent, we can use the way Freud and Lacan discussions concerning the real, read here as God in mysticism. Yet, Freud considered the spiritual to be part of impulse, whereas Lacan defines the mystical experience in the field of jouissance, inscribing it in the field of signifying logic, of which the real is a product. This leads us to reinterpret the trace inscribed in the body as a dimension of real that resists the symbolic representation of the subject. This relationship between the signifier and the real makes it possible to recognize psychoanalytical and mystical knowledge as a kind of “know-how” of what is impossible. In the case of Teresa of Avila, the real takes the form of the Trinity as truth. To indicate this truth, however, is not enough for her, for what is at stake in this experience is living in union with God who ex-sist in language. In this case, the “know-how” with the real become possibly consequential, even a blessing.

Full textOur thesis focuses on male violence against women in churches in Haiti. It is part of the disciplinary field of theology in interdisciplinary dialogue with human sciences, particularly at the intersection of sociology, anthropology, political science, philosophy, history, psychology, Men’s Studies and feminist theology. The problem revolves around four main issues: the prevalence of violence against women in Haiti; Church violence, the resistance and solidarity of Haitian women; the importance of the commitment of men in the fight against this violence. These questions are posed in a Haitian context and, more specifically, in the Christian churches in Haiti. The research has as methodological support the praxeology. This allows us to observe and articulate, from a field study, the stories of people who have been involved in episodes of church violence in Haiti. Such research seeks to stimulate social and religious change among clerics and lay people from an awareness that propels them to become involved in private spheres, but above all to engage in the political struggle against masculine violence towards women. Our thesis helps to promote: 1) the transformation of men's behavior towards women in Christian churches in Haiti; 2) the awareness of members of the clergy and secular men regarding respect for the rights of women, their emancipation and liberation; 3) masculine solidarity as a strategy to promote the integration of women in the positions of responsibility; 4) the involvement of men in the fight against male violence against women. Finally, the specificity of this research is not only limited to exploring the violence of men towards women in Christian churches, but also extends to other institutions of Haitian society.
Tremblay, Annie-Claudine. "Critique praxéologique d’une exposition sur le « vrai » visage de Jésus : un essai de théologie trash." Thèse, 2011. http://hdl.handle.net/1866/6993.
Full textThis dissertation is in line with what we call praxéologie pastorale. It analyses, in four cycles, the implementation of an exhibition which opposes an alienating fig-ure of Jesus (smooth and conventional) to a trash vision of him (in other words subversive and provocative), if we are to be faithful to the Bible's inscriptions. The first cycle (observation), which presents the first exhibition project as well as the inspiring sources (personal, cultural and artistic), brings us to surround two prob-lematics: the question of the truthfulness and the subversive orientation (trash) of the Bible's image of Jesus. The second cycle (interpretation) questions the truth with Hans Georg Gadamer, which brings us to surpass the violent affirmation of the truth of the first exposition project to reorient it into that of a questioning per-spective. Furthermore, an example of the trash dynamic allows us to base the sub-versive and provocative figure of Jesus by rereading the Bible; hence the third cycle (intervention): the amendment of the first exhibition project. In conclusion, the fourth cycle (prospective) pushes the reflection beyond the concrete interpreta-tion, namely, in regard to the arts and the public, the grief of the truth, the trash dynamic and the faith.
Gendron, Sébastien. "Amour, gloire et divinisation : étude de «Pour que l’homme devienne Dieu» de François Brune." Thèse, 2016. http://hdl.handle.net/1866/19362.
Full textIn his book Pour que l’homme devienne Dieu (1983), the French theologian François Brune notices, from the trinitarian mystery and the testimony of the Western mystiques, the radical aspect of the human appeal to love. According to the Chalcédoine Council, as the incarnation indissociably connects what is created and non-created in Jesus Christ, the whole human gender shares with him a common human nature and takes part in the divinity, according to the patristic and orthodox divinization doctrine. The notion of person establishes the necessity of the free participation of every human being to the salvatory life of Christ. The compenetration of both human and divine natures of Christ as well as their selective deconnection, according to the kénose concept, reveals a really human existence, both suffering and glorified depending on the circumstances, supporting with a sustaining love the human temptations and the consequences of evil. Following Brune’s reflections on the being and becoming in God and his critic of Theilhard de Chardin’s christology, we will establish within our critical perspective an interrelation between the three modes (divinization, amorisation and salvation) of the unique glorification plan of the humanity and the world as an image of the intern dynamism of the Une and Trine divinity.
Barreau, Jean-Marc. "Systématisation du contenu théologique de l’expression « nouvelle évangélisation » à la lumière de la théologie pastorale de Jean-Paul II." Thèse, 2012. http://hdl.handle.net/1866/8868.
Full textThe entire pontificate of Pope John Paul II, polarized by the event of the Jubilee of the year 2000, can be summarized as a long pilgrimage of the Catholic Church towards the Third Millennium of humanity. At the dawn of the XXIst century, having as a sure guide the theological contents of Vatican Council II, the Polish Pope held up for all to see an original pastoral vision marked by the expression “new evangelization”. Borrowed from the Latin American Bishops this expression became his emblem and spearhead during nearly 27 years of pontificate. Since it has been largely appropriated by various ecclesial groups, a systematic study of the expression, in the light of the pastoral theology of its privileged discloser, had to be initiated. To do so we chose, as founding text of our study, the Apostolic Letter Tertio Millennio Adveniente, published in 1994, due to its pastoral vision at the dawn of the year 2000. This text, covering the period of the Vatican Council II up to the entry of the Roman Catholic Church in the Third Millennium, defined the temporal framework of our research and permitted us to retain three theological tenets. We analyzed them and produced a theological synthesis through three synoptic views which gradually led the thesis to its conclusion. The Apostolic Exhortation Evangelii Nuntiandi of Pope Paul VI was the starting point; the second theological tenet was the document of John Paul II entitled Sources of Renewal, and the final tenet was the Post Synodal Exhortation Ecclesia in America. By the analysis and the synthesis of these three tenets, with a justified hermeneutical initiative, three outcomes emerged. The first one looked at the pastoral application of the Vatican Council II: in a pastoral outlook justified by a defined anthropology, the minister articulated the Constitutions Lumen Gentium and Gaudium et Spes to suggest a pastoral praxis. The second outcome then developed the notion of the creativity of the faith. This creativity of the faith declined itself in the cultural mediations – third outcome – which articulate themselves around the concepts of attitudes and Wojtylien dialogue. The proposed critical conclusion of the thesis directly concerned the anthropology proposed by John Paul II underlying in each of these three outcomes.

Full textWhile a growing number of Anglo-Saxons evangelicals theologians define themselves as postmodernists, this Master thesis`s first aim is to understand what this means concretely. We will achieve this through the study one of the main reference books on the matter. We put forward that these postmodern theologians are developing a theology in opposition to the fondationalist theology. They also tend to oppose modernity’s absolute assumptions with postmodernism’s relativism. Yet, they argue in favor of a moderate relativism. This theological turn has concrete implication in regards to ecclesial practice, especially within emergent churches. However, these new trends of thoughts and practices are highly criticized by other evangelical theologians, bent on preserving the absolutes inherited from Cartesians, as well as consolidated ecclesial tradition. This Master’s thesis second aim is thus to study and to resume criticism emanating from these other theologians. Since this research is developed within Quebec’s context, we have also delved into Quebec’s evangelical theologians take on postmodernism. This constitutes the third element of this Master’s thesis. From this literature we chose to resume one article that stemmed from a conference presented at a 2007 Montreal convention on emergent churches. We also conducted interviews to understand the ecclesial practices related to emergent churches in the Quebec context. The first interview has been conducted with a Quebec evangelical theologian who has adopted postmodernism. The second interview has been conducted with a small group of members of an emergent church. To conclude, we make a final analysis of the literature brought to bear in this Master’s thesis, and we make our own contribution in favor of a postmodern evangelical theology and postmodern ecclesial practices in Quebec’s context.
