Abstract:
Summary The paper deals with onomastics as a branch of linguistics, its subject matter, scope of research, methodology, and relations to other branches of linguistics, such as language history, dialectology, as well as other fields, for example, history. The second part of the paper presents particular periods of onomastic research in chronological order. A systematic development of the discipline is shown through bibliographic examples and mention of the most important scientific organizations and institutions. The essence of the qualitative development of Polish onomastics consists in undertaking ever new problems which attest to the broadening of the scope of research to include new classes of speech signs recognized as nomina propria. Also essential is undertaking theoretical issues – the place and function of proper names in the system of language. A list of research desiderata concludes the discussion.

Abstract:
The objective of the study is to clarify the criteria for selection of nominated denotations and the form for submission of proper names for indexes contained in the printed books of different functional types of literature, simultaneously with consistent conceptualization of representative publishing strategies. Methods of the study. The research was conducted on the basis of books prepared for printing by the Ukrainian publishers, involving the issues of publishing theory, practice and editing, that reflected the contemporary theoretical reflection focused on interdisciplinarity. The use of the system method made it possible to correlate the best practices of editorics and onomastics. The critical analysis of the forms of index sections in book editions was conducted with the use of agreed theoretical constructs caused by the deduction method. Results and conclusions. The theoretical generalizations of the study will cause the interpenetra-tion of approaches of editorics and onomastics in the context of multidimensional study of onyms, which will not only significantly increase understanding of the specifics of the areal functioning of onomasticon of the printed book, but will have a purely practical effect, since it will allow to understand more deeply the linguo-cognitive mechanisms of formation and func-tioning of proprial units, to understand more clearly the practice of establishing the lexical-semantic form of index sections, as well as the normative cases of use of inversion in formula-tion of index sections in book editions. The linguistic status of a nomen as a constituent of the subsidiaries and the index section has not been investigated at all, which is caused by the pe-riphery of onomasticon of the printed book in the general discourse of onomastics. The formula-tion specificity of index sections that include the onyms was studied for the first time, which determined its uniqueness, novelty and innovativeness.

Abstract:
The purpose of this article is to present the characteristics of a group of anthroponyms in order to point out some directions for studies of Brazilian anthroponymy. This article is based on theoretical assumptions of Onomastics and on the interface between this field of study and Law. The anthroponyms analyzed are civil name, social name, ballot name and parliamentary name. Data were collected from the Superior Electoral Court, the Chamber of Deputies and court decisions from tribunals. Recent Brazilian anthroponymy studies demonstrate that research on personal names relating linguistic and legal aspects is still incipient. This article provides some suggestions that could bridge such a gap by analyzing lexical or grammatical aspects of data originating from legal norms or judicial decisions.

Abstract:
Onomastics, medicine and politics in this study are a pragmatic way of depicting the psychosocial condition of Nigeria as an underdeveloped nation. The study explores Femi Osofisan’s The Engagement from a literary onomastic standpoint with the aim of exposing socio-political anomalies in Nigeria. Nigerian leaders commit flaws of egoistical and individualistic interests which often go against the consciences of the led. On this premise, the study explores the characters’ names in The Engagement with a view to gaining insight into Nigeria’s sociocultural and political contexts. Furthermore, Postcolonial Theory and Halliday’s Contextual Theory of Meaning serve as the study’s theoretical constructs. The study is predicated on the underdevelopment of Nigeria which is epitomised as a psychological behaviour of characters in a nation that is under the siege of political anarchy and different social vices.

Comparative AnthroponomasticsAbstractThe emergence of onomastic studies in Europe dates to the 19th century when language studies were made according to the approaches of Philology and Comparative Grammar. The interest in comparing anthroponymies of different languages and/or cultures, however, is and even more more recent the perception that studies of this nature form a specific subarea that I call Comparative Anthroponomastics. In this work, I elucidate how this subarea is configured from theoretical, epistemological pragmatical and applied points of view. To this purpose, I present results of bibliographic research based on 16 complete papers published in international congresses of Onomastics from 2011 to 2018 and 06 researchers conducted by me and/or colleagues in this area totaling 22 studies. Keywords: Onomastics; Anthroponomastics; Comparative Anthroponomastics.

Abstract:
Regional onomastics is an entangled system that involves names circulating in a specific region, which can be relatively well-known or almost unfamiliar outwards. Today, onomastics is an independent branch of science having as its subject of study both lexemes certainly related to proper names (e. g.: toponyms, hydronyms) and lexemes which lie at the border of propriatives and appellatives, including ethnonyms. Region’s onyms studying helps to find out linguistic links between non-related neighbouring languages, to elicit dialectal features, to discover the places of peoples’ previous habitation, to identify cultural interaction and language borrowings – for that reason this topic is of particular relevance. Regional onyms can be regionalisms from the angle of regional linguistics, insofar as they are representative of a particular locality, but are of little notice or almost unknown beyond of it. This article introduces the concept of onomastic regionalism for clearer description of local onomastic realities in the context of regional linguistics and indicates the difference of onomastic regionalism from the term regional onym. As a rule, ethnonyms of small-numbered peoples do not have wide distribution outside their bearers’ places of residence; for that reason, the author considers them onomastic regionalisms. The study of small ethnic and subethnic groups’ names in Russia it still not sufficient from the point of their regional component, this relates especially to the ethnonyms of the Russian North-East; in that regard, the present topic still abides high relevance of research. The ethnonyms of the Russian North- Eastern indigenous peoples do not have detailed investigation from the position of their involvement in the Far Eastern regional onomasticon. In the present paper the author restrains at investigation of two ethnonyms of one small-numbered people in the Russian North-East – Chukchi; he describes its men and women’s official names, Chukcha and Chukchanka, from the view of the lexical units’ simultaneous attribution to literary language and regiolect. This paper is a theoretical study of the question that the ethnonyms Chukcha and Chukchanka belong to onomastic regionalisms. The author gives a practical example of the Chukcha ethnonym transition from the regiolect to the core of the literary language and gives the reasons why the female derivative of this ethnonym, Chukchanka, remains in the language periphery and of little notice outside Chikchi’s habitat.

Abstract:
The history of animal names begins with the early epochs of human evolution, when animalism was one of the basic components of the worldview. Despite a considerable number of works that study zoological vocabulary, the uncertainty of a number of terms and a certain arbitrariness of the use of terms and concepts associated with animal names is still present in onomastics, e.g. "zoonym" and "zoomorphism" refer to such concepts. The purpose of the article is to clarify the terminological meaning of these concepts, to generalize and systematize the basic research on the theory of zoonymic nominations. The research methodology was formed on the basis of theoretical positions in the field of onomastics and the theory of nominations in modern linguistics. As a result of the theoretical analysis the following findings were made. First, the terms "zoonym" and "zoomorphism" are not synonymous. "Zoonym" is a more general term than "zoomorphism". Zoomorphism represents zoological names of anthropological nature, attributing the traits associated with the image of an animal to a human. Zoonyms do not have such attributes. "Zoonim" is proposed to be the general term. Another finding was that the functioning of zoonyms and zoomorphisms in the literary text is influenced by the genre of the text, which is expressed in the genre determinism of the lexical composition of zoonyms nominating animals.

Abstract:
A proper name is a vocabulary element of a particular language which also belongs to a respective onymic subsystem, thereby acquiring a binary character. Proper names are formed (as a secondary plan of a language) with the background of appellative vocabulary. However, in their formation and use in communication, not only are the rules of the appellative language code applied but also the rules specific to proper names. Two opposing but interrelated tendencies are typical of the position of proper names – a continuous interaction of proper names with other vocabulary and the whole language system and, simultaneously, a continuous polarisation of the category of proper names in relation to appellatives. The interaction of proper names with other vocabulary relates to the ongoing processes of onymisation (appellative % proprium) and apellativisation (proprium % appellative) with the openness of onymy (the social, historical, cultural as well as the political dimensions of proper names present a wide range of possibilities for, e. g. the adoption of exonyms) but, above all, it relates to the social needs of ordinary communication. The polarisation of proper names in relation to appellatives is, hence, conditioned by the special character of onymic nomination. From this binary interrelationship of proper names follows the binary status of the category nomen proprium, i. e. linguistic status and onomastic status. In the analysis of proper names and from the methodological standpoint in onomastics, I consider this to be fundamental. That is why, after the older characterisation of onomastics, I have extended the definition of the linguistic status of proper names as defined by Kuryłowicz (La position linguistique du nom propre, 1956) to linguistic and onomastic status (Blanár 1976, 1977 ). These terms will be discussed later.

Abstract:
The paper observes the matter of proper names of chemical elements of the periodic table by D.I. Mendeleev, the history of their origin, and transformation while the morphemic and semantic loaning from Greek and Latin languages. Moreover, the name for this lexis is proposed as stoichonyms. The topic under discussion is actual for chemistry students in classes of English. The paper provides an example of multilingual group of the speakers of Russian, Tajik, and Kyrgyz languages. The special interest is the comparative lexemic analysis of the names of chemical elements in these three languages. By means of it, one can conclude on the students' perception of the scientific lexis in the light of its etymology, on the one hand. On the other hand, one can make an approach to teaching the special lexis not only by language teacher but chemistry as well.
