Abstract:
Summary The paper deals with onomastics as a branch of linguistics, its subject matter, scope of research, methodology, and relations to other branches of linguistics, such as language history, dialectology, as well as other fields, for example, history. The second part of the paper presents particular periods of onomastic research in chronological order. A systematic development of the discipline is shown through bibliographic examples and mention of the most important scientific organizations and institutions. The essence of the qualitative development of Polish onomastics consists in undertaking ever new problems which attest to the broadening of the scope of research to include new classes of speech signs recognized as nomina propria. Also essential is undertaking theoretical issues – the place and function of proper names in the system of language. A list of research desiderata concludes the discussion.

Abstract:
The objective of the study is to clarify the criteria for selection of nominated denotations and the form for submission of proper names for indexes contained in the printed books of different functional types of literature, simultaneously with consistent conceptualization of representative publishing strategies. Methods of the study. The research was conducted on the basis of books prepared for printing by the Ukrainian publishers, involving the issues of publishing theory, practice and editing, that reflected the contemporary theoretical reflection focused on interdisciplinarity. The use of the system method made it possible to correlate the best practices of editorics and onomastics. The critical analysis of the forms of index sections in book editions was conducted with the use of agreed theoretical constructs caused by the deduction method. Results and conclusions. The theoretical generalizations of the study will cause the interpenetra-tion of approaches of editorics and onomastics in the context of multidimensional study of onyms, which will not only significantly increase understanding of the specifics of the areal functioning of onomasticon of the printed book, but will have a purely practical effect, since it will allow to understand more deeply the linguo-cognitive mechanisms of formation and func-tioning of proprial units, to understand more clearly the practice of establishing the lexical-semantic form of index sections, as well as the normative cases of use of inversion in formula-tion of index sections in book editions. The linguistic status of a nomen as a constituent of the subsidiaries and the index section has not been investigated at all, which is caused by the pe-riphery of onomasticon of the printed book in the general discourse of onomastics. The formula-tion specificity of index sections that include the onyms was studied for the first time, which determined its uniqueness, novelty and innovativeness.

Abstract:
The purpose of this article is to present the characteristics of a group of anthroponyms in order to point out some directions for studies of Brazilian anthroponymy. This article is based on theoretical assumptions of Onomastics and on the interface between this field of study and Law. The anthroponyms analyzed are civil name, social name, ballot name and parliamentary name. Data were collected from the Superior Electoral Court, the Chamber of Deputies and court decisions from tribunals. Recent Brazilian anthroponymy studies demonstrate that research on personal names relating linguistic and legal aspects is still incipient. This article provides some suggestions that could bridge such a gap by analyzing lexical or grammatical aspects of data originating from legal norms or judicial decisions.

Abstract:
Onomastics, medicine and politics in this study are a pragmatic way of depicting the psychosocial condition of Nigeria as an underdeveloped nation. The study explores Femi Osofisan’s The Engagement from a literary onomastic standpoint with the aim of exposing socio-political anomalies in Nigeria. Nigerian leaders commit flaws of egoistical and individualistic interests which often go against the consciences of the led. On this premise, the study explores the characters’ names in The Engagement with a view to gaining insight into Nigeria’s sociocultural and political contexts. Furthermore, Postcolonial Theory and Halliday’s Contextual Theory of Meaning serve as the study’s theoretical constructs. The study is predicated on the underdevelopment of Nigeria which is epitomised as a psychological behaviour of characters in a nation that is under the siege of political anarchy and different social vices.

Abstract:
Regional onomastics is an entangled system that involves names circulating in a specific region, which can be relatively well-known or almost unfamiliar outwards. Today, onomastics is an independent branch of science having as its subject of study both lexemes certainly related to proper names (e. g.: toponyms, hydronyms) and lexemes which lie at the border of propriatives and appellatives, including ethnonyms. Region’s onyms studying helps to find out linguistic links between non-related neighbouring languages, to elicit dialectal features, to discover the places of peoples’ previous habitation, to identify cultural interaction and language borrowings – for that reason this topic is of particular relevance. Regional onyms can be regionalisms from the angle of regional linguistics, insofar as they are representative of a particular locality, but are of little notice or almost unknown beyond of it. This article introduces the concept of onomastic regionalism for clearer description of local onomastic realities in the context of regional linguistics and indicates the difference of onomastic regionalism from the term regional onym. As a rule, ethnonyms of small-numbered peoples do not have wide distribution outside their bearers’ places of residence; for that reason, the author considers them onomastic regionalisms. The study of small ethnic and subethnic groups’ names in Russia it still not sufficient from the point of their regional component, this relates especially to the ethnonyms of the Russian North-East; in that regard, the present topic still abides high relevance of research. The ethnonyms of the Russian North- Eastern indigenous peoples do not have detailed investigation from the position of their involvement in the Far Eastern regional onomasticon. In the present paper the author restrains at investigation of two ethnonyms of one small-numbered people in the Russian North-East – Chukchi; he describes its men and women’s official names, Chukcha and Chukchanka, from the view of the lexical units’ simultaneous attribution to literary language and regiolect. This paper is a theoretical study of the question that the ethnonyms Chukcha and Chukchanka belong to onomastic regionalisms. The author gives a practical example of the Chukcha ethnonym transition from the regiolect to the core of the literary language and gives the reasons why the female derivative of this ethnonym, Chukchanka, remains in the language periphery and of little notice outside Chikchi’s habitat.

Abstract:
The history of animal names begins with the early epochs of human evolution, when animalism was one of the basic components of the worldview. Despite a considerable number of works that study zoological vocabulary, the uncertainty of a number of terms and a certain arbitrariness of the use of terms and concepts associated with animal names is still present in onomastics, e.g. "zoonym" and "zoomorphism" refer to such concepts. The purpose of the article is to clarify the terminological meaning of these concepts, to generalize and systematize the basic research on the theory of zoonymic nominations. The research methodology was formed on the basis of theoretical positions in the field of onomastics and the theory of nominations in modern linguistics. As a result of the theoretical analysis the following findings were made. First, the terms "zoonym" and "zoomorphism" are not synonymous. "Zoonym" is a more general term than "zoomorphism". Zoomorphism represents zoological names of anthropological nature, attributing the traits associated with the image of an animal to a human. Zoonyms do not have such attributes. "Zoonim" is proposed to be the general term. Another finding was that the functioning of zoonyms and zoomorphisms in the literary text is influenced by the genre of the text, which is expressed in the genre determinism of the lexical composition of zoonyms nominating animals.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the study of proper names in the context of such dramatic works by L. N. Razumovskaya, such as the plays “Under One Roof”, “Dear Elena Sergeevna”, “Garden Without Land”, “Maya”, “Home! ..”, “Medea” , "My sister The Little Mermaid." The novelty of the work is that earlier the onomasticon of Russian dramaturgy of the second half of the ΧΧ century, including the plays of L. N. Razumovskaya, was not studied, but meanwhile it occupies a special place and plays an important role both in understanding of theoretical foundations of literary onomastics, and their further development. The paper lists the features of creating and using proper names in the artist’s plays of the word. Here we consider the types and significance of headings, plot and non-plot poem, their status, semantics and functions, especially the use of modifiers in the studied works. The study reflects the results of applying a systematic approach to the classification of proper names functioning in a dramatic text, reveals the cognitive, linguoculturological, paradigmatic, syntagmatic aspects of their analysis, is aimed at identifying the general and individual author's laws of the onymic space (onomastic universals) of the “new wave” dramaturgy using an example of creativity L. N. Razumovskaya. The materials of the article can be used for educational and enlightening purposes in higher and secondary educational institutions - in teaching university courses in lexicology, linguistic analysis of literary text, stylistics, modern Russian literature, as well as special courses and special seminars on onomastics. The results of the study will be of interest to a wide range of teachers and teachers of Russian literature, introducing the modern achievements of philological sciences into the educational process, with the aim of forming students' sustained interest in the Russian language and culture, developing their creative abilities.

Abstract: Based on theoretical assumptions of the Socio-onomastics, this work aims to analyze the social name as a category of Brazilian anthroponymy. Abstract:
This article discusses a question of nomination characters in the tales of P.P. Bazhov. Character’s names in tales are studied from the point of view of etymology, symbolism and mythology. The aim of the research is to analyze the semantics of the character’s names in Bazhov’s tales. The hypothesis of the study is the following statement: symbolic and mythological conceptions about the named character, together with the context and meaning of the lexemes that make up the name, form the semantics of the name of one or another character. The analysis was based on the texts of Bazhov’s tales, included in collection works of the writer in 3 books (“The Mistress of the Copper Mountain”, “The Malachite Box”, “The Stone flowe”, “The Mountain master”, “A Fragile twig”, “Zhelezko’s covers”, “Two lizards”, “Sochen’s gems”, “Grass trap”, “Old mountains gift”, "Ivanko Krylatko", "Ognevushka-Poskakushka", "Blue snake", etc.). The article identifies the features of the onomastic space of P.P. Bazhov's tales. This article considers ways to designate characters in tales, which are studied in the framework of onomastics. In this study, it was used a descriptive method (when generalizing theoretical knowledge on the subject under study), a method of component analysis (in interpretation of the semantics of a character’s name), a comparative method (when comparing characters to identify their common characteristics), and a classification method (in the classification of the names of the characters). Character’s names of Bazhov’s tales were divided on two groups and several subgroups depending on the character's belonging to the world of people or to the world of fantastic creatures. The results of the research can be used to further study the specifics of nomination characters in the tales of P.P. Bazhov.

Abstract:
This article aims to analyze the functioning of Northeastern names as elements of humor in virtual texts. The corpus of analysis consists of two posts of northeastern humor profiles on social network Instagram: Suricate Seboso (greasy suricate) and Bode Gaiato (mocking goat). The analytical process considers Discourse Analysis theoretical premises and considers concepts such as discursive memory, as in Courtine (1999, 2014), Robin (2016) and Paveau (2005) and discursive ethos, as in Maingueneau (2008a, 2018, 2020). Since these notions are directly linked to anthroponomic onomastics regarding historical and social facts related to language, I also consider the work by Leite de Vasconcelos (1928) as organized in Carvalhinhos (2007). The conclusions point to a functioning of the Northeastern names in this type of discourse as elements of humor linked to different memories, which present a shift in the naming processes, for example by updating patronymics.

Abstract:
This article looks into the custom of not giving names to pivotal characters in some selected Xhosa tales. Given that the word “tales” means different things to different people, it is used in this article to refer to both fables (stories which deal with animals only) and folktales (stories dealing with both animals and humans). The unnaming practice is not uncommon in all types of tales and is applied to both males and females, young and old, as well as to strange mysterious beings. The motive for unnaming is analysed and its functions are alluded to. References to popular generic names of animals found in Xhosa tales are made for the sake of clarifying the need for naming, though these are not the subject of discussion here. It is therefore most fitting to use onomastics as the theoretical framework of this article in order to capture convincing patterns of the unnaming system and the creation of faceless characters in indigenous Xhosa tales.

The present paper aims to study word structure and meaning of the proper names that appear in Mustai Karim’s literary works. In this article, the methods of system, theoretical and practical analysis are used. Based on the analysis of poetonyms, the word-building patterns of proper names in M. Karim’s autobiography novel «Long-long childhood» are considered. As far as this issue has never been the focus of linguists’ attention, this research is the first attempt of a comprehensive study of proper names used in M. Karim’s novel from structural and word-building angles; the specificity of the functioning of onims and their role in the creation of artistic images, as well as in the reflection of the main stages in the development of the Bashkir language, is revealed. The work makes a definite contribution to the study of trends in the development of the Bashkir language system, as well as structural and word-formation features of poetic onomastics.

Abstract:
Toponymy, a discipline that studies place names, is one of the branches of Onomastics: science responsible for the study of proper names. This study aims to trace a profile of toponyms of indigenous origin in the rural area of Acre, analyzing toponymic motivations related to fauna, flora and hydrography in Acrean geographic features. This corpus – collected in the maps provided by IBGE, with a scale of 1: 250,000 and 1:1,000,000 – was based on the theoretical-methodological proposal by Dick (1990, 1992), especially regarding the taxonomic model, composed of 27 taxa, subdivided into physical and cultural categories, and as to the catalogue and storage of toponymic database (DICK, 2004). The results revealed that, out of 392 toponyms, 74% are names linked to physical and geographic characteristics, 20% concerning cultural factors and 6% were unclassified. The research showed that toponymic motivation is mainly based on flora, fauna and hydrography predominantly from Tupi language origin.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the formation of a linguistic interpretation of the interaction of language and culture of the Polish-Ukrainian border territories. The material for the analysis includes nomic systems of Ukrainian and Polish languages, which are considered as a cultural product of interpersonal and interethnic communication and an element of the language system, as well as invariant scientific theory created in the works of Polish onomastics (according to key theoretical concepts, tradition of analysis, and continuity in linguistic knowledge). The analysis performed in the article allows us to single out the linguistic indicators of the interaction of language and culture typical for the subject field of sociolinguistics. These are connections and concepts: language-territory, language-social strata, language-gender, language-ethnicity, social functions of the Polish language, and non-standardized spelling systems. Linguistic indicators reveal the peculiar mechanisms of the border in the historical memory and collective consciousness, marking the role of languages in these areas as a factor of space and cultural marker and bringing us closer to understanding the social relations of native speakers in the fifteenth-nineteenth centuries.

Abstract:
The aim of the research is to (i) consider the role of proper names in the stories of A. P. Chekhov, to (ii) determine the significance of combinations of common names with proper names in revealing the author's position and creating a humorous effect, and also to (iii) identify frequent word-building patterns for the anthroponyms. Literature analysis on theoretical issues of artificial and natural names as well as studying practical examples from onomastics and anthroponymy realms enabled to specify the functions of combinations of common nouns with proper names. These names are part of the plot, conveying ideological messages, concentrating meaning, structure and content. Combinations of proper names and common nouns characterize the style of the writer. In the stories analyzed, common names contain a direct indication of status, position, rank, while proper names metaphorically portray the character or highlight the dominant of his/her personality and convey the author's message concerning evaluation of the image. Linguistic analysis of word-building patterns has shown that most surnames of the characters in the stories of A. P. Chekhov are formed by suffixation from common names, and they are the result of the author's word-making, another way to implicitly evaluate characters. In Chekhov's word combinations, proper and common names are interrelated and opposed.

Abstract:
Drawing from the perspective of Contextual Fictional Etymology, in this paper we analyze four Indianist anthroponyms, namely, Irapuã, Coatiabo, Maranguab and Abaeté, found in the works O Guarani, Iracema and Ubirajara by José de Alencar. For this purpose, we draw from the theoretical framework of Onomastics (DICK, 1999), Contextual Fictional Etymology (AUTOR, 2018), Lexicology (BIDERMAN, 2001; VILELA, 1995) and Corpus Linguistics (BERBER SARDINHA, 2004, 2009; AUTOR, 2014). To extract the Indianist anthroponyms, we used the WordSmith Tools software (SCOTT, 2012) and some resources of the Genre/Historical version of Corpus do Português (DAVIES, 2006). We considered as Alencar’s anthroponymic etymons the indigenous names created by the author in his works. Towards this end, two criteria were considered: first, the words should not be part of exclusion dictionaries, which publication predates Alencar's works; second, the words should appear in the Corpus do Português (DAVIES, 2006) as having its first occurrence in texts written by Alencar. The creation of anthroponymic etymons by Alencar enabled him to attribute to the indigenous characters not only a name, but also the physical and/or psychological features intended by the author. Therefore, from the perspective of Contextual Fictional Etymology, the study of Alencar’s anthroponymies also entails some knowledge about the language possibilities and the author’s creativity, by means of a lexicon that enabled the expression of his ideals.

Abstract:
This article deals with the problems of naming in English and Uzbek languages. The main principles of formation of onomastic units are discussed and the cultural bases of choosing the name are interpreted in the article as well. Theoretical views of well-known linguists are represented from the point of linguocultural aspect. The most important issue in this area was to determine what the Proper Nouns meant. In this paper, we will endeavor to prove the assertion, at the same time accounting for some of the motivations upon which Proper Nouns appear. It may cover the wide range of linguistic and extralinguistic motivations underlying the lexical units – Proper Nouns. Proper Nouns in most cases are not simply a tool of naming, but as linguistic unit they can render an information about the owner. A new exploration of a certain phenomenon, a new perspective for its consideration and contain a new moral and ethical assessment of the phenomenon. Based on this, this article presents linguistic features of Proper Nouns in speech, ethno-linguistic, ethno-cultural, sociolinguistic problems of naming the objects. The analogies and differences between the linguistic phenomenon of Proper Nouns and Common Nouns have been examined in detail.

Abstract:
We consider the psychological characteristics of the personality of a Russian military servant in his speech activity. The purpose of the work is to conduct on the basis of practical analysis a theoretical analysis of the interaction of members of the military personnel, factors that influence the change in their personality, and also to identify the most striking psychological features of the linguistic persona of a Russian military servant. This issue is relevant at present, since the Armed Forces are of particular interest to the public, including scientific. From the point of view of psycholinguistics, the military society is less studied than in such areas as education, medicine, economics, sports, media, etc. The author of the study describes the essence of the military collective, its formation, structure, the characteristic of socio-psychological phenomena and processes taking place in this society is given. The main biological, psychological, and special changes in the personality of a person who integrates into the military personnel and continues the socialization in it, begun in another community, are listed. During the analysis of the psychological characteristics of the military servant, which are reflected in the formation of his linguistic persona, the author carried out a practical analysis of the qualities of a representative of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in order to identify nickname self-awareness and realize it in the nickname nomination. The research material was a survey based on an open, anonymous questionnaire of the Russian military servants. The results of theoretical and practical analysis can be used in the educational process in both civilian and military universities at seminars and special courses of psychology, psycholinguistics and speech culture.

The contribution deals with a number of areas in ancient Europe where the epichoric languages are predominantly and primarily onomastic. After a brief consideration of certain theoretical problems, it starts off with a survey of the “Ligurian” set of questions and then moves to the vast region which has been formally considered a domain of the “Illyrian” language. The paper discusses the available data and reviews anthroponymic provinces traditionally selected in this area as well as geographical names, also going beyond the traditional borders of the “Illyrian” space.

Abstract:
This article is the first in a series devoted to nicknames of well-known people in Greece of pre-Hellenistic times. In it general considerations are primarily expressed about the role of nicknames in human societies (including ancient Greek), relations of nicknames to personal names and divine epithets, terminology of nicknames among the Greeks, and the possible reasons for not very broad development of the practice of nicknaming in Greece during this period. A nickname is a fundamental phenomenon of the history of culture, and its real significance has not yet been appreciated. Nicknames in particular served as means of distinguishing individuals within any society. The names of the ancient Greeks had originally resembled nicknames as much as possible. Onomastic units in Greek poleis were mostly meaningful. Nicknames can be assigned—not from a semantic but rather from an emotional point of view—to three basic types. We deal with nicknames of a) a positive, exalted character (“Olympian” as to Pericles); b) a negative, pejorative character (“Coalemos”—“Simpleton” as to Cimon the Elder); c) a neutral character—those that show a certain characteristic appearance of an individual (e.g., “One-Eyed”), or some kind of memorable detail of his biography (Hipponicus the “Ammon” in Athens at the turn of the 6th and 5th centuries BC). Another interesting thing took place in pre-Hellenistic times. Nicknames were more often connected not with politicians and state figures but with people from cultural spheres—poets, philosophers.

Abstract:
This paper argues that the question of theoretical translatability is crucial both to source-oriented and target-oriented approaches. Reflecting on translatability requires a discussion of Toury’s notion of ‘adequate translation’, which has two senses: the general or ideal approximation to source-text norms, and the tertium comparationis represented by a source-text-oriented translation (i.e. showing how the original ‘can’ be translated). It is argued that both senses have heuristic value in Translation Studies. The explanatory power of target-orientedness is demonstrated by discussing the various strategies pursued by seven Anglo-American translators of Dante who either re-create or avoid rewriting grotesque onomastic wordplay in Inferno. Zero translation policy of Dante’s names is not considered to be evidence of their inherent ‘untranslatability’ since for an empiricist nothing is untranslatable. Evocative names may be translated in a creative way provided the rewriter is willing (or allowed) to be innovative.

Abstract:
The article examines the state and directions of development of modern Kazakh lexicography. The goals, objectives and possibilities of modern branches of lexicography are determined; the scientific-theoretical and practical foundations of compiling dictionaries are described. The development of the theory and practice of lexicography is due to such needs as the recognition of lexicography as a separate area of linguistics, the development of a theoretical basis for the creation of dictionaries, a general typology of dictionaries, the definition of the macro - and microstructure of dictionaries. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to summarize the experience of Kazakh lexicography, to identify its general theoretical problems, directions of development, to show its place in linguistic science. The study used a descriptive method, analysis and synthesis methods. A brief overview of scientific works is made, which study general theoretical and practical problems of Kazakh lexicography, research on the history of Kazakh lexicography, as well as works that consider the experience and scientific foundations of compiling dictionaries. The authors note the importance of the theory of lexicography in creating dictionaries, improving their quality, choosing the basic principles when sorting vocabulary units in a dictionary, the peculiarities of their functioning, the quantitative and qualitative composition of linguistic units to be included in the corresponding type of dictionary according to the subject of research, denote the theoretical and practical problems of Kazakh lexicography, scientific and theoretical foundations for creating dictionaries of the Kazakh language, determine the scientific, theoretical and practically applied aspects of modern lexicography as a science of language. Pointing to the importance of studying the scientific foundations of compiling dictionaries, their composition and structural features, both from a purely scientific point of view, and from the point of view of the implementation of state programs aimed at the development of the Kazakh language, the authors of the article conclude that the patterns and quality of compiling dictionaries directly depend on the basic functions of the language in modern society. The state of affairs in modern lexicography makes it possible to talk about the allocation of general lexicography, which studies the properties inherent in any dictionary, and particular sections of lexicography (educational, terminological, onomastic, etc.). General lexicography should establish common (or statistically dominant) features of all dictionaries using typology, as well as explore the general patterns of functioning and use of dictionaries. Private lexicography should contain sections that study the internal structure of this type of dictionary and methods for its creation; history of this type of dictionary; purpose and addressee of this type of dictionary. Therefore, experts in the field of lexicography believe that the prospects for the further development of lexicography are seen in the improvement of existing and creation of new types of dictionaries, the emergence of complex dictionaries and the computerization of lexicographic activities.

Abstract:
This article discusses the functioning of proper names in a literary text. The primary attention is paid to the study of the essential functions of anthroponyms. This work will focus on studying the origin of anthroponyms and their use in a poetic text. The features of each functional style have long made it possible to contrast the literary and artistic style with everyone else in the presence of exceptional semantic complexity in the literary texts, a multi-tiered composition, and the aesthetic function of the word that organises the entire context of the work. Onomastic units are integral components of the space of a literary text; they are a connecting, constructive element of the meaningful and semantic space and structure of the text. Proper names participate in the creation of semantic multidimensionality of the text, are a means of translating the author's intention and the artistic idea of the work. The article uses descriptive and comparative linguistic methods. It is noted here that the creation of proper names is a practical process and is directly related to the mental-national thinking of the people. The scientific and methodological study of names is theoretical. The proper name in a work of art performs some artistic functions. They include identification, ensuring unity of perception, characterising a character, shaping his image and plot of work, forming subject-object relationships, spatio-temporal and compositional organisation of work, and implementing intertextual connections.

Abstract:
AbstractComparative modeling is necessary for semiotic inquiry. To better theorize such pursuits, a reflexive turn is in order: comparative modeling needs comparative modeling. In search of experientially grounded analogies better suited for understanding, validating, scrutinizing, and accounting for the situation of the semiotic inquirer, this paper applies insights from Peircean process semiotics and Göran Sonesson’s extended theory of cultural semiotics toward two ends: one theoretical, the other applied. First, I undertake a critical review of recent scholarly and creative works that attempt to adapt concepts of “parallax” as a source domain for comparative modeling activities. I do this in order to continue laying groundwork for a more complex, systematic theory of reflexive semiotic modeling in human inquiry, building on my earlier work. Second, I explore a specific case study of comparative intercultural modeling: namely, nationalist ethnic classification strategies in China and Vietnam. While many researchers have considered the onomastic and geopolitical dimensions of state-sanctioned ethnic categorization programs in these two countries, little has been done to unpack the powerful visual and narratological strategies employed by both; and little has been done to compare the intercultural categories these strategies serve to legitimize. The Vietnamese classification program is clearly modeled on its Chinese counterpart historically, but important categorical mismatches emerge between the two that indicate the presence of hidden diversity. Comparing the two systems also leads to a number of discoveries with implications for further developing the theory of cultural semiotics. Ultimately, the function or purpose of parallax modeling is shown to both comprehend and point beyond nascent intercultural and intracultural models toward more complex blends, by holding all such relations in a comparative frame, not as irreconcilable positions but as a more developed composite sign indicating the presence of yet more deeply buried dynamic objects to be searched out through further collateral experience.

Abstract:
One of the current issues in modern linguistics is the study of authorial neologisms, because language is considered to be a living dynamic system that is constantly evolving, changing, and the language of fiction is a rich source that serves as a basis for studying these changes. Our work is based on the definition proposed by O. O. Selivanova, according to which a neologism is a word or compound used by language in a certain period to denote a new or existing concept or in a new meaning and are perceived as such by native speakers. Neologisms belong to the passive vocabulary of the language, but over time they are assimilated by it and move to common vocabulary, losing their status as neologisms. Thus, the series of novels about Harry Potter is characterized by J. K. Rowling’s terminology, which is innovative and unique, which is a feature of the author's idiosyncrasy. The aim of the article is to reveal the thematic features of the use of author’s neologisms in J. K. Rowling’s novels about Harry Potter. Research methods are: theoretical general scientific methods (generalization, induction and deduction); empirical-theoretical methods (analysis, synthesis, modeling, system method and classification method); method of linguistic observation and description. The analysis showed that the most productive way to create authorial neologisms in J. K. Rowling’s novels about Harry Potter is word formation, because word formation is based on the principle of language economy. The themes of authorial neologisms in J. K. Rowling’s novels about Harry Potter are broad, as they are used to denote everyday realities: magical objects, food and drink, currency, the names of academic disciplines at Hogwarts, holidays and games, and more. Author’s neologisms are also words that denote ethnographic and mythological realities: ethnic and social communities and their representatives; deities, fairy-tale creatures. The author’s neologisms in J. K. Rowling’s novels about Harry Potter also include vocabulary that calls the realities of the world and nature: animals and plants, onomastic realities are anthroponyms: students, teachers, and toponyms: spells. Spells can be divided into two groups: spells in which Latin words are used; spells that use the magician's native language. Prospects for further research can be traced in the lexical-semantic and stylistic analysis of occasionalisms of the writer's works, both in individual works and in the implementation of a comprehensive analysis of the author's neologisms.

Abstract:
The article focuses on the verbal features of scientific knowledge representation in a new and actively developing genre of Internet discourse, the genre being that of expert blogs. The novelty of this issue is determined by the lack of linguistic research of both medical expert blogs and peculiarities of scientific knowledge conceptualization in them. It is also for the first time that the article covers the problem of knowledge adaptation to the minds of a broad range of individuals not proficient in special scientific knowledge. The subject of the research is lexical and stylistic features functioning as the major tools of language manifestation of scientific knowledge in the discourse of medical expert blogs. Basing on the material of English-language and Russian-language blogs published on Instagram in 2019-2020 the research aims to identify patterns and features of language organization in expert blogs as a special discursive space, which represents new forms of expert knowledge in English and Russian linguistic cultures. The analysis has revealed the current trend towards the scientific knowledge transformation that is in the process due to the wide public’s involvement in it through actively developing social networks. The transformation of scientific knowledge in the linguistic cultures under the analysis is reflected in (1) the degree of the scientific style formality, (2) the mandatory presence of onomastic units of expertise, (3) the use of specific lexical and stylistic means of representing terminological knowledge. It has been also proved that these ways of scientific knowledge representation are determined by the expert authors’ linguocultural identity. The theoretical prerequisites stated can be based upon in further research of pragmatic potential and cognitive-communicative organization of expert blogs.

Abstract:
Summary The first part of the article (Sect. 1–6), an earlier version of which appeared in 1964, constitutes a survey of medieval Arabic lexicography, which resulted in the conlusion that the works of these lexicographers could not be used, according to modern standards, as primary sources for lexical studies of Arabic, as has frequently been done up to now. It is characteristic of medieval Arabic lexicography that it was limited to the study of Classical Arabic, the literary language of Islamic society until the end of the tenth century. The beginnings of Arabic lexicography date back to the time of ‘Alī or to the early Umayyads and were motivated by the concern for the classical language and its preservation from decline and deterioration. It was primarily the Koran, tradition literature, early poetry and proverbs which served as a basis for lexical studies. As a result of these scholarly efforts a number of lexical works were produced, some of which aiming at a complete vocabulary of the language, others being limited to certain linguistic and literary fields. Besides dictionaries in the proper sense there are also onomastic dictionaries. The arrangement of roots varies in different works. Although some of these dictionaries are extremely voluminous, they do not adequately represent the actual state of the language, as evidenced by the Lisān al-’Arab, for, on the one hand, they are often incomplete, on the other hand they contain material of dubious origin. Information as to usage and currency is lacking. The arrangement of the material within the roots is irregular and unsystematic, and the morphological structure of words is not always clearly established. There are shortcomings with regard to the definition of word meaning; moreover, no distinction is made between common and occasional meaning. Sometimes a meaning is stated as being known, sometimes it is defined by synonyms. Information regarding gender is often too general and wide, whereas with regard to meaning it is too narrow, based on isolated occurrences or simply false. In conclusion, reference is made to the Wörterbuch der klassischen arabischen Sprache (WKAS), which constitutes a new approach to Arabic lexicography. The second part of the paper (Sect.7–10) reports on the progress and development of the WKAS up to 1983 (date of publication of the first half of the second volume). The source material has been considerably enlarged, and there are also improvements from the technical point of view. Another change, however, is the widening of the linguistic scope. In addition to the classical language in the strict sense, translations from Greek (and Syriac) and relevant works succeeding them are taken into acount. Although this material only refers to certain domains of Greek thought, mainly pertaining to scientific subjects, it is rather heterogenous and often requires considerable expert knowledge. Theoretical concepts are more frequent here than in common literary language. The translations vary, moreover, as to quality and usage; the latter also applies to relevant subsequent literature. In philosophy, for instance, only a small quantity of loan-words and foreign words is to be observed. Word composition being almost completely lacking as a means of translation, Greek terms were rendered by way of morphological derivations and syntactical structures, or by semantic extensions and semantic loans. At the present stage of research it is not yet possible to achieve a complete inventory of technical terms; consequently, examples quoted as reference are not always equally pertinent. For the same reason a number of terms and definitions could be added in the field of philosophy as well. Another problem is the choice of adequate European meanings for rendering Arabic concepts. In the WKAS philosophical terms are partially included in the entries devoted to common language. In such cases, but also when they are treated apart, sequences of meaning are sometimes produced which are neither homogeneous in themselves, nor do they always fit in with the examples quoted. Thus the user must take notice of the distinction made within individual entries, and, if required, rely on his own judgment in finding further definitions. All things considered, the WKAS is certainly not to be regarded as a substitute for a dictionary of philosophical terms, but it offers rich and valuable material in this respect.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the connotative reading of proper names (PN) in a literary text. Undoubtedly, among the issues of poetic onomastics it is one of the most complicated and interesting questions. It should be noted that at the present time onomastics itself appears as a rather new direction of a text analysis,it develops along with stylistics, poetics and linguistics. For the analysis of connotative onyms the article presents quite a full generalization of the following issue: whether proper names have or do not have a lexical meaning. The attention is paid to underlining the volumetric informative field in PN, in the structure of which connotation takes a considerable role. The introduction of a special term «connotonym» is convincingly motivated. The article alazies connotative potential of PN in detail and gives its common characteristics. It is underlined that all sorts of onyms have connotation, though in a literary text anthroponyms have a special significance, so a particular attention in the article is given to the connotative filling of anthroponym meanings. It is noted that proper names are always subjectively coloured, they express author’s attitude. Besides, they appear in the text in different forms, realize author’s ulterior sententiae, and assist in describing main characters and their relationship. Theoretical propositions of the article are illustrated by the example of the PNconnotative content analysis: Shaghanae from S.A. Yesenin’s famous cycle «Persian Motifs» and Tanyusha from his poem «Khorosha byla Tanyusha…». The article shows contextual reading of a connotonym and potentialities of the PN connotative reading in a poetic text.

Abstract:
The article describes the theoretical and methodical principles of the aesthetic culture formation of students in the process of the foreign literature teaching. Fiction as a carrier of aesthetic views of artists, aesthetic views and forms of their personalization as means of art of the word are the basis for the education of a highly spiritual aesthetically perfect personality, a citizen of a European state and the development of the aspiration of a young person to personal growth. Among the important criteria for the formation of aesthetic culture, we defined the following: the orientation of activities to achieve a specific goal, the development of students' interest in the formation of aesthetic culture during the literature study, the desire for self-improvement and self-realization, both in classroom and out-of-classwork. In the process of the foreign literature studying, there are determined the main stages of aesthetic culture formation and their content in the context of the specifics of the future professional activity of philologists students. The aesthetic discoveries of different epochs and literary trends, the modern achievements of linguoculture, hermeneutics, onomastics, semiotics, comparative studying are laid down as the base points in the basis of our proposed pedagogical system and its realization. In the technological maps developed for practical classes, there are presented the types of individual work, there are defined personally oriented spiritual and value orientations. For analysis and correction of aesthetic activity of students there are proposed the methods of studying and correction the level of formation of the aesthetic culture.

Brendler, Silvio. "Title Identity of Name(s) As a Crucial Problem in Name Studies, or: Towards the Recognition of Onymic Identity As a Principal Onomastic Concept." Oslo Studies in Language 4, no. 2 (June 17, 2012). http://dx.doi.org/10.5617/osla.308.

Abstract:
In general, identity plays an increasingly important role in name studies. People consider their personal name(s) to be part of their identity, after all. And no less importantly from the onomastic perspective, cultural, social, ethnic or national identity is at least to some extent related to names. So name students utilize names as markers of cultural, social, ethnic or national identity. On the other hand, name studies have in particular neglected to deal explicitly with identity of name(s). As a problem it has, however, been implicitly present from the very beginning of modern name studies. So this paper introduces identity of name(s) as a crucial problem of name studies that is worth, and indeed in need of, being explicitly recognized as a principal onomastic concept. Nomematics, an identity-theoretical framework based upon a dynamic model of language, is applied to achieve this purpose. It is shown that only the various manifestations of one and the same name are identical, with the nomeme serving as an identification schema. Onymic entities (the various manifestations of names) are identical if and only if they match the identification schema (criterion of identity).

Abstract:
The translation of proper names – a functional, onomastic theoretical approach I. Features of names as factors influencing translation The paper examines the questions surrounding the translation of proper nouns from an onomastic viewpoint blended with the results of translation studies, following a functional-communicational approach. Its goal is to create a model, which contains not only the applicable methods available to translators, but the (pragmatic and communicational) aspects and factors that could affect choosing between these. The novelty of the study is that it takes the meaning (denotation and connotation), the category (e.g. personal name) and sub-category (e.g. family name) of proper nouns into consideration, following the practices of prototype theory. Another innovative approach is the emphasise lain on the influence of composition on the translation of names. According to this, names consisting of several words should not be handled as single units, as earlier studies have consid-ered them, but following a two-step method: first holistically (e.g. the Eng. Flint Cliffs : Hung. Flint-sziklák, a place name), and then morphologically, while defining the categories of the name elements (e.g. Flint is a family name, cliffs is a common noun). This shows that translators are not completing a single operation but a combination of operations (transference in the case of the given name, and translation in the case of the common noun). Translations previously deemed ununderstandably heterogenous can thus be explained by applying this methodology.
