Dzhioeva, Alesya. Theoretical course of the English language. Grammar. ru: INFRA-M Academic Publishing LLC., 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.12737/935896.

Full text
Abstract:
The purpose of the textbook is to give students an idea of the theoretical grammar of the English language and the issues that it solves. The basics of the general grammatical theory and theoretical grammar of the modern English language are described. The sections of grammar — morphology and syntax, their correlation in different languages are considered. The most important grammatical concepts are analyzed: a word, a phrase, a sentence. The idea of the theory of parts of speech, as well as parts of speech in the English language is given. The textbook includes eight chapters, a bibliographic list and appendices containing additional material. Each chapter is devoted to a specific question of theoretical grammar. At the end of each chapter, conclusions are given — a summary of its essence, a list of references, questions and tasks that help to assimilate the material are given. Meets the requirements of the federal state educational standards of higher education of the latest generation. It is recommended for students of philological faculties of universities studying the theory of grammar and theoretical grammar of the English language.

Abstract:
The workshop consists of two chapters. The first one is basic, in the form of 10 works aimed at studying primary-level application programs. The second-extended-contains guidelines for seven works with software complexes (systems "Electric", DIALux) and a description of the application of programs for project purposes (calculation of the crossbar, sPlan, "1-2-3 Scheme", etc.). Along with the practical section, each topic includes reference and information support in the form of theoretical material. The papers contain basic information about the operations performed with mandatory references to specialized literature, including a review of standard examples and individual tasks in the applications section for monitoring the knowledge gained. Full text
Abstract:
Approached on occasions as a depiction of Argentina’s vulnerability to fascism and Nazism, ‘Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius’ is read here in light of the theoretical concept of ‘coloniality’, illustrated by the negative effects of neocolonialism in 1940s Buenos Aires. The historical frame of reference evoked in the story also encompasses the first and second waves of European imperialism (as construed by Wallerstein, Mignolo et al.); having begun in 1492, modern European imperialism entered a second phase around the time of the Enlightenment. The twin motifs of encyclopedias and mirrors are crucial to the meanings of ‘Tlön’, where they reflect a scenario of marginality and belatedness that is to be explained in terms of geopolitics. Through references to authors including Shakespeare and Aldous Huxley, the chapter also addresses issues of language and creative responsibility under conditions of dystopia.

Abstract:
The conclusions chapter discusses the theoretical contribution of the work to the literatures on diasporas, ethnic lobbies, and transnationalism. It references the theoretical model, applicable across a variety of diasporas and contexts, and the multiple ways in which host states utilize diasporas. The theoretical model’s conditions and the testing of the model are discussed. The chapter contains a summary and lessons from each of the eight cases in this book in which the four-factor model was applied. Multiple issues raised by the phenomenon of host-state utilization, including the effect of regime type on host-government use of diasporas, when de-instrumentalization by the host state of the activists occurs, ethical implications of such utilization, and avenues for future research, are also covered.

Full text
Abstract:
Collecting references to the actio of fragmentary orators, this chapter explores the theoretical aspects of using the whole body (including both the speaker’s vocal delivery and his body language,) in public speaking. The evidence, despite its fragmentary nature, is contextualized using the advice given by the ancient rhetorical handbooks of Cicero and Quintilian on oratorical delivery, and related to modern theories of communication. The lack of a precise theoretical framework for actio in antiquity is argued to have allowed ancient theoreticians and practitioners considerable freedom for the representation and adoption of various elements of non-vocal delivery in their treatises and speeches.

Audring, Jenny, and Francesca Masini, eds. The Oxford Handbook of Morphological Theory. Oxford University Press, 2018. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oxfordhb/9780199668984.001.0001.

Full text
Abstract:
Morphology, the science of words, is a complex theoretical landscape, where a multitude of frameworks, each with their own tenets and formalism, compete for the explanation of linguistic facts. The Oxford Handbook of Morphological Theory is a comprehensive guide through this jungle of morphological theories. It provides a rich and up-to-date overview of theoretical frameworks, from Structuralism to Optimality Theory and from Minimalism to Construction Morphology. In the core part of the handbook (Part II), each theory is introduced by a practitioner, who guides the reader through its principles and technicalities, its advantages and disadvantages. All chapters are written to be accessible, authoritative, and critical. Cross-references reveal agreements and disagreements among frameworks, and a rich body of references encourages further reading. As well as introducing individual theories, the volume speaks to the bigger picture. Part I identifies time-honoured issues in word-formation and inflection that have set the theoretical scene. Part III connects morphological theory to other fields of linguistics. These include typology and creole linguistics, diachronic change and synchronic variation, first and second language acquisition, psycho-/neurolinguistics, computational linguistics, and sign language theory. Each of these fields informs and challenges morphological theory in particular ways. By linking specialist data and insights from the various subfields, the volume fosters the dialogue among sub-disciplines that is much needed for a graceful integration of linguistic thinking.
