Abstract:
“Indirect” suggestion is conceptualized in two distinct ways in the literature. From an Ericksonian perspective “indirect” suggestions are theoretically approached as suggestions which can circumvent the censorship of consciousness to reach the “unconscious” where they can activate dormant potentials. In contrast, from a research perspective “indirect” suggestion is operationally defined as a technique. Based on Ericksonian theory, it was claimed that “indirect” suggestion was more effective than traditional, “direct” suggestion. However, this claim could not be empirically substantiated. In this paper it is shown that the theoretical claim is based on questionable assumptions about the existence of the “unconscious” as a reified entity and about the direct and lineal influence of certain suggestions on this entity. Also, it is argued that traditional research strategies which emphasize strict controls are unable to verify or unambiguously refute the Ericksonian claim because these strategies are biased toward “direct” suggestion. Finally, the paper provides a different, contextual perspective on “indirect” suggestion, thereby placing the theoretical and experimental issues in a different context of meaning.

Abstract:
The speech always contains more information than what it says directly. In addition to the literal sense, each statement has a communicative intention, one of the types of which is suggestion. The article considers the main points of view on the suggestion as a linguistic phenomenon, as well as the basic concepts related to this field of study. Each statement performs a communicative function, one of the types of which is suggestion. The study of the suggestive function of discourse is part of the field of study of linguistic influence, which as a science was formed due to the dynamic development of psycholinguistics, pragmatic linguistics, communication theory, rhetoric, logic, language psychology, social psychology and other scientific fields. Linguistic influence can be understood in broad and narrow sense. In this article, it is considered in the narrow sense: under the linguistic influence implies the influence on the consciousness and behavior of the individual with the help of a language characterized by specific objective goals of the speaker. To achieve verbal control of human behavior, different methods of influence are used, in which the classifications are divergent. We distinguish 3 types of linguistic influence: belief, suggestion and induction (will). Suggestion, or indirect suggestion, implies influence on subconsciousness, emotion and sense of the addressee and is characterized by unconsciousness of assimilation of the reported information. The purpose of a suggestion is to introduce an object of influence into a trance and to instill something, to induce certain actions. An intentional or suggestive language act of any illocutionary force may be if its purpose is to influence the psyche, the senses, the will and the mind of person and to decrease the degree of consciousness, analyticity and criticality in the perception of the information to be invoked.

Abstract:
Logistics on the other hand has received increased attention in recent years due to the fast and global growth of markets. The aim for this report is to study the internal material handling at Fläkt Woods AB’s factory in Jönköping, Sweden. The study is limited to include activities from receiving goods until the start of final assembly. The purpose with this case study is to identify potential problem within the current setup of the internal material handling system and provide suggestions for improvements in order to minimize downtime in production caused by lack of material. Based on an abductive approach, the data collection performed via documents, observations and interviews lays the foundation for the compilation of a number of flowcharts. These flowcharts describe the flow for three separate product groups which the company previously has identified as most interesting to map. With the flowcharts as a starting point potential problems are identified and, with the use of an own-composed analytical framework, also classified in order to sort out problems that are likely to cause downtime in production. The study states that these problems originate from damaged/defective components, incorrect storing/picking or occur due to errors when recording and sorting newly arrived goods. Literature studies are the basis for a theoretical framework containing a number of principles that should be taken into consideration when handling material internally. This framework is the base on which the presented suggestions for improvements rely. The suggestions can be divided into three separate areas. Problems caused by human factors can be minimized by increased motivation, increased knowledge and a more comprehensive view within the workforce. All kinds of physical movement along with registration in the ERP-system should be conducted in a more standardized and secure way. A need of increased measuring and monitoring has also become evident in order to increase control over different types of undesirable events. Beside implementing the proposed suggestions for improvement the students also advice the company to study the theoretical framework in order to be able to apply it on other problems. This study identifies quite a few other problems, but due to the scope of the study they are not further analyzed.

Bruno Trentin. Lavoro, libertà, conoscenza takes into consideration the figure of Bruno Trentin (1926-2007) and his work as a union leader and politician, his numerous writings in the framework of the history of Republican Italy and the transformations induced by the processes of globalisation. From this reflection, conducted from different disciplinary angles and with different political and cultural sensitivity, what emerges clearly is the extremely idiosyncratic significance of Bruno Trentin in both the practice and the theoretical analysis of the labour struggle and the exploration of its problems. A historic contribution featuring a wealth of suggestions, intuitions and reflections, capable of interpreting events and their potential union and political repercussions, within a project for the enhancement of liberty and the social and cultural role of work conducted in an extraordinarily innovative and far-sighted manner.

The book, that gathers reflections on the theme of the city, intended as field of experimentation, gives an updated panorama of the doctoral (PhD) and postdoctoral research in Architectural Technology, and offers ample theoretical insights as well as a large collection of specialized applications. The environmental approach, that welcomes suggestions from the surrounding areas, highlighting the "material culture", shows the common traits that are present in many of the research themes here exposed.

Abstract:
There are several studies in the literature that emphasize the link between CLIL and student motivation for learning. The same does not apply for teachers – who teach a non-language subject through a foreign language – whose motivation for teaching in CLIL should not be taken for granted. Our research is an inquiry in the Italian upper secondary school with a dual focus: a main focus on CLIL teachers and a secondary one on CLIL students. The main aim of this cross-sectional study is to offer a snapshot of the existing situation from the point of view of teachers’ and students’ perceptions one year after the introduction of the legal requirement for compulsory CLIL, with a view to reflecting on the present in order to hypothesize possible future developments. The obtained results – which confirm the association between the motivational dimension of the CLIL teacher with the cognitive, affective and relational ones, and with the motivational dimension of CLIL students – are interpreted and discussed in the light of the most recent theoretical developments and suggestions for future practice and research are offered.

Abstract:
Abstract This chapter charts and critically analyses the ethical challenge of assessing how much (and what kind of) evidence is required for the justification of interventions in response antibiotic resistance (ABR), as well as other major public health threats. Our ambition here is to identify and briefly discuss main issues, and point to ways in which these need to be further advanced in future research. This will result in a tentative map of complications, underlying problems and possible challenges. This map illustrates that the ethical challenges in this area are much more complex and profound than is usually acknowledged, leaving no tentatively plausible intervention package free of downsides. This creates potentially overwhelming theoretical conundrums when trying to justify what to do. We therefore end by pointing out two general features of the complexity we find to be of particular importance, and a tentative suggestion for how to create a theoretical basis for further analysis.

Abstract:
AbstractThis chapter explores a series of thought experiments for an investigation of what one casually calls the image. In this endeavor, images will be rendered as bodies compiled from versions of themselves (bodies of images), explored embedded in dissemination processes (memeplexes), and hence contoured as highly effective structures with sophisticated potential for transformation (image objects). Basing on three major theoretical concepts (meme theory, object-oriented ontology, and network effects), this re-interrogation of the image is the suggestion of a reading of images as entities that actively, or inactively, form structural assemblages and maintain energetic human and non-human constellations which shape the present. At the close of the exploration, a professional habitus is sketched in which art educators are experts for image relations.

Abstract:
AbstractClassification schemes are important groundwork for research on many topics of different business disciplines such as information systems (IS). They make investigating topics manageable by allowing researchers to delimit their work to certain taxa or types (e.g., of artifacts or firms) and provide a basis for generalization. Opposed to theoretically grounded typologies, taxonomies are empirically derived from entities of a phenomenon and therefore have several advantages, such as more detailed and exhaustive coverage. Initial guidelines for developing taxonomies in business have been proposed; however, research is still missing a clear set of applicable procedures to empirically build taxonomies. We tackle this topic by suggesting an inductive approach based on the procedures of content and cluster analysis. Each of the proposed six steps is amended with comprehensive state-of-the-art guidelines, suggestions, and formative measures of reliability and validity.

Abstract:
In this paper, we investigate the CO emission from an oil refinery gas incinerator both theoretically and experimentally. At the beginning of this research, our collected data from this incinerator showed that the CO contamination would be far exceeding the permissible environmental standards at the stack exhaust. Therefore, we decided to perform a combined theoretical-experimental study to find a reasonable solution to reduce the CO pollution suitably. Our theoretical study showed that a reliable solution would be to increase the incinerator operating temperature. However, we needed to collect some data from this incinerator to examine if our achieved analytical solution would work correctly. In data collection procedure, we were faced with one major difficulty due to the limits of automatic system of incinerator control, which did not let us increase the incinerator temperature readily in real work conditions. As a general remedy, our suggestion was to interfere in this automatic control system and to increase its maximum possible limit of temperature. Evidently, this needed a number of considerations, which could not be performed in a short length period. As a short length remedy, we designed a number of manual control procedures, which let us examine different temporary working conditions for the incinerator. Trying different operating condition, we eventually found a suitable one with minimum CO emission from the incinerator. Although this choice resulted in an increase in the incinerator temperature and a remedy to reduce the high CO emission, it was inversely increased the incinerator fuel consumption, which is rather a negative point. Our further data collection indicated that the excess air of primary incinerator was relatively high. Therefore, we designed an automatic system of inlet air damper to adjust the inlet air, which resulted in avoiding high excess air and consequently suitable saving in the fuel consumption. The details are provided in the rest of paper.

Abstract:
Similar to direct energy deposition (DED) technology, electrostatic adhesion method can also be employed to deposit powder on targeted areas without direct contact. In this paper, feasibility of utilizing the electrostatic adhesion method (EAM) in material deposition step of metal-power-based additive manufacturing is assessed through theoretical models and experimental verifications. A dielectric layer is proposed to be pre-coated on targeted areas to keep the powders being electrostatically attracted and charged without dropping before laser scanning process. Through this study, it is found that the net force of a single metallic particle on top of the deposited powder layer with a different thickness of the dielectric layer can be determined, leading to the suggestion of suitable coating thickness corresponding with desired particle radius. Results showed that the deposition layer thickness can be predicted with the knowing coated dielectric layer thickness and the powder size distribution. With the proposed electrostatic deposition method, a thinner layer compared to DED technology can be deposited, while maintaining its ability to deposit powder layer over a larger area. Through experiments, the developed electrostatic model is validated with results indicating that the deposition layer thickness can be predicted and controlled with the knowing coated dielectric layer thickness and the powder size distribution.

Abstract:
Abstract: The research focuses on Le Corbusier educational process and on his ability to abstract, through his memories, the images related to the knowledge of the Ancient World; a study that addresses the clear connection between the works of Le Corbusier and his knowledge of Roman architecture, outlining two interpretations: the first one linked to the archetype of classic models, and the second one to ruins and archaeological landscape. The first interpretation clearly illustrates the rational perspective, the will to pursue an universal architecture distinguished by use of reason, that only archetypes can teach, whereas the second interpretation attempts to outline the relationship between the evocative influence of the ruin and the personal suggestions of the architect. Retracing the steps of his educational process, the research investigates the knowledge acquired by the young Jeanneret during his German stay (1910-1911). This is the first phase of the study of Roman architecture, that inspires him an interest that will be pursued later through the experience of the Voyage d 'Orient and the study of some sources, such as Piranesi's views. This learning is reflected in numerous drawings and reflections contained in Carnet 4 and in Carnet 5, elaborated during his stay in Rome. These experiences will be a source of inspiration for his architectural production and theoretical assumptions, and they seem to be reflected in some works of the architect, as the Chandigarh Haute Cour of 1952. Abstract:
Line pipe steel is a carbon manganese steel. The toughness of line pipe steel undergoes a transition from high toughness (on the upper shelf) to low toughness (on the lower shelf) as the temperature decreases. A fluid will cool significantly as it expands through a leak in a pipeline. This has led to the suggestion that localised cooling of the material surrounding the leak might be sufficient to cool the material down to below the ductile to brittle transition temperature and cause a brittle fracture. Warm pre-stressing occurs when a load is applied to a structure containing a defect and then the temperature of the structure is reduced. Warm pre-stressing causes the defect in the structure to fail at a higher load at the lower temperature than if it had not experienced this prior loading at the previously higher temperature. A programme of single edge notch bend tests has been conducted on behalf of National Grid Carbon to demonstrate the beneficial effect of warm pre-stressing in a line pipe steel. The material tested was a sample of 914.4 mm outside diameter, 19.1 mm wall thickness, Grade API 5L X60 line pipe. Single edge notch bend specimens were subject to the ‘load-cool-fail’ cycle and the ‘load-unload-cool-fail’ cycle. The effect of different levels of stable ductile crack growth during the pre-load was also investigated. Warm pre-stressing is shown to have a beneficial effect. The load at failure in the specimens that had been subject to warm pre-stressing was higher than those that had not been subject to warm pre-stressing, and, in most cases, it was higher than the pre-load. The fracture toughness (in terms of the stress intensity factor) of the specimens that had been subject to warm pre-stressing was 1.4 to 1.7 times higher than that of those that had not been subject to warm pre-stressing. The results of the tests were conservatively predicted using the theoretical models. Also, the results are consistent with previous tests on structural steels. Therefore, localised cooling of the material around a leak in a pipeline is not predicted to result in a failure.

Abstract:
Cyclic stretching of endothelial cells (ECs), such as occurs in arteries during the cardiac cycle, induces ECs and their actin stress fibers to orient perpendicular to the direction of maximum stretch. This perpendicular alignment response is strengthened by increasing the magnitudes of stretch and cell contractility (1). The actin cytoskeleton is a dynamic structure that regulates cell shape changes and mechanical properties. It has been shown that actin stress fibers are ‘prestretched’ under normal, non-perturbed, conditions (2), consistent with the ideas of ‘prestress’ that have motivated tensegrity cell models (3). It has also been shown that ‘tractional forces’ generated by cells at focal adhesions tend to increase proportionately with increasing focal adhesion area, thus suggesting that cells tend to maintain constant the stress borne by a focal adhesion (4). By implication, this suggests that cells try to maintain constant the stress in actin stress fibers. Thus, it seems that cells reorganize or turnover cytoskeletal proteins and adhesion complexes so as to maintain constant a preferred mechanical state. Mizutani et al. (5) referred to this as cellular tensional homeostasis, although they did not suggest a model or theory to account for this dynamic process.
