We review thermodynamic properties of modified gravity theories, such as [Formula: see text] gravity and [Formula: see text] gravity, where [Formula: see text] is the scalar curvature and [Formula: see text] is the torsion scalar in teleparallelism. In particular, we explore the equivalence between the equations of motion for modified gravity theories and the Clausius relation in thermodynamics. In addition, thermodynamics of the cosmological apparent horizon is investigated in [Formula: see text] gravity. We show both equilibrium and nonequilibrium descriptions of thermodynamics. The study of the development of ecosystem is a very important problem in ecology. With the development of ecology, the study of ecosystem is gradually from description of natural phenomena to the understanding of mechanism of ecosystem development. Thermodynamics is full of highly scientific and universal theory, and thereby thermodynamic theories can provide the foundations for understanding ecosystem development rule. We demonstrate that there exists an equilibrium description of thermodynamics on the apparent horizon in the expanding cosmological background for a wide class of modified gravity theories with the Lagrangian density f(R,ϕ,X), where R is the Ricci scalar and X is the kinetic energy of a scalar field ϕ. This comes from a suitable definition of an energy momentum tensor of the "dark" component obeying the local energy conservation law in the Jordan frame. It is shown that the equilibrium description in terms of the horizon entropy S is convenient because it takes into account the contribution of

Einstein’s equations are derived by following Jacobson’s thermodynamic method. It is seen that a family of possible field equations exist which satisfy the thermodynamic argument. Modified theories of gravity are addressed as possible candidates for replacing dark matter as an explanation for anomalous cosmological phenomena. Many of the proposed modified theories are not powerful enough to explain the currently observed phenomena and are rejected as viable theories of gravity. Resource theories are a set of tools, coming from the field of quantum information theory, that find applications in the study of several physical scenarios. These theories describe the physical world from the perspective of an agent, who acts over a system to modify its quantum state, while having at disposal a limited set of operations. A noticeable example of a physical theory which has recently been described with these tools is quantum thermodynamics, consisting in the study of thermodynamic phenomena at the nano-scale. Their form resembles that of a TBA system whose free energy yields the dynamic contribution to the area. The corresponding set of functional relations, the so called Y-system, is derived and extensively analyzed in the cases of octagon and decagon together with the set of integral equations. The thesis focuses on the prediction of solvation thermodynamics using integral equation theories. Our main goal is to improve the approach using a rational correction. We achieve it by extending recently introduced pressure correction, and rationalizing it in the context of solvation entropy. The improved model (to which we refer as advanced pressure correction) is rather universal. It can accurately predict solvation free energies in water at both ambient and non-ambient temperatures, is capable of addressing ionic solutes and salt solutions, and can be extended to non-aqueous systems.
