For a graph G = (V,E), we consider a bipartition {V1,V2} of the vertex set V by placing constraints on the vertices as follows. For every vertex v in Vi, we place a constraint on the number of neighbors v has in Vi and a constraint on the number of neighbors it has in V3-i. Using three values, namely 0 (no neighbors are allowed), 1 (at least one neighbor is required), and X (any number of neighbors are allowed) for each of the four constraints, results in 27 distinct types of bipartitions. The goal is to characterize graphs having each of these 27 types. We give characterizations for 21 out of

Consider a finite group G and subgroups H;K of G. We say that H and K permute if HK = KH and call H a permutable subgroup if H permutes with every subgroup of G. A group G is called quasi-Dedekind if all subgroups of G are permutable. We can define, for every finite group G, an arithmetic quantity that measures the probability that two subgroups (chosen uniformly at random with replacement) permute and we call this measure the subgroup permutability degree of G. This measure quantifies, among others, how close a finite group is to being quasi-Dedekind, or, equivalently, nilpotent with modular

Abstract The dissertation considers a degree theory and the index of a critical point of demi-continuous, everywhere defined mappings of the monotone type. A topological degree is derived for mappings from a Banach space to its dual space. The mappings satisfy the condition (S+), and it is shown that the derived degree has the classical properties of a degree function. A formula for the calculation of the index of a critical point of a mapping A : X→X* satisfying the condition (S+) is derived without the separability of X and the boundedness of A. Abstract:
A path π = (v1, v2,...vk+1) in a graph G = (V,E) is a downhill path if for every i, 1 < i < k, deg(vi) > deg(vi+1), where deg(vi) denotes the degree of vertex vi ∊ V. The downhill domination number equals the minimum cardinality of a set S ⊂ V having the property that every vertex v ∊ V lies on a downhill path originating from some vertex in S. We investigate downhill domination numbers of graphs and give upper bounds. In particular, we show that the downhill domination number of a graph is at most half its order, and that the downhill domination number of a tree is at most one third its order

Abstract:
The main focus of this thesis is to evaluate .k_r(n,\delta)., the minimal number of $r$-cliques in graphs with $n$ vertices and minimum degree~$\delta$. A fundamental result in Graph Theory states that a triangle-free graph of order $n$ has at most $n 2/4$ edges. Hence, a triangle-free graph has minimum degree at most $n/2$, so if $k_3(n,\delta) =0$ then $\delta \le n/2$. For $n/2 \leq \delta \leq 4n/5$, I have evaluated $k_r(n,\delta)$ and determined the structures of the extremal graphs. For $\delta \ge 4n/5$, I give a conjecture on $k_r(n,\delta)$, as well as the structures of these extrema
