Abstract:
The purpose of the study was to describe the dimensions of the text, the practice of discourse, socio-cultural practices, and the ideological formations in the short stories that face imagined on porridge plates. The theory used is the theory of sociology of Gramsci hegemony. The method used is a qualitative method with the Fairclough model of critical discourse analysis techniques. The results of the study are a form of hegemony when traditional markets turn into modern markets and make people have a consumptive lifestyle. The author expresses his criticism of the current phenomenon subtly with the symbol of genderuwo which has greed and hegemonic character. Genderuwo is represented as a capitalist system which is currently controlling society. The form of ideological formation in the form of authoritarianism-capitalism and humanistic-mysticism. There are groups of hegemony, pro-hegemony, and groups of counter-hegemony. The hegemony group is the main actor in the occurrence of hegemony (the dominant group), while the pro-hegemony group is a figure who supports the occurrence of hegemony, the counter-hegemony group consists of people who oppose the occurrence of hegemony (cultural rise).

Abstract:
This paper provides an analysis of Budi Pekerti movie using the lens of Antonio Gramsci's Hegemony Theory. The movie, which focuses on promoting moral and character education, subtly mirrors the dynamics of cultural dominance and ideological control in society. By focusing on how social and cultural norms are reinforced in everyday life, the movie serves as an excellent representation of how dominant ideologies shape the behaviors, values, and perceptions of individuals. Through the framework of hegemony proposed by Gramsci, this research examines how power structures, social expectations, and cultural narratives play a role in the reinforcement of conformity to a hegemonic moral order. Ultimately, this paper explores how cultural products like Budi Pekerti play a role in reinforcing social norms and maintaining ideological control, shaping the moral compass of individuals within society.

Abstract:
Myth is an essential part in superhero roles. In modern superhero acts, a character may possess more than one myth. Thus, this portrayal is an ideal power to create supremacy. An author, even a director could employ the newly-created myth to overcome hegemonic power. As stated in Gramsci, there is an instrument to control, even surpass ideology. In the Deadpool 1 & 2 movie, the myth of superheroes is interpreted as the instrument of hegemony. The aims of this study are to find out what kind of superhero hegemony that will be countered in the Deadpool movie, what are the counter hegemony element in the Deadpool movie, and how are the Deadpool’s effort and his preparations doing ideological battle against the superhero existence. This research uses hegemony and counter-hegemony theory according to Antonio Gramsci. This research applies descriptive qualitative method. The findings are Deadpool’s act of violence and his merc-with-mouth assuming his role as an anti-hero. However, Deadpool finally encountered the existing myth of superheroes ideologically. Unexpectedly, Deadpool offers a solution to the existing hegemony.

Kata Kunci Gramsci, Hegemoni, Sosiologi Sastra ABSTRACT This study analyzes the form of hegemony and the hegemonic impact of superordinate groups on subordinate groups in Nellaneva's Dharitri novel, as well as the utilization of the research results as an alternative material for teaching literature at high school. In this research, the object is novel Dharitri by Nellaneva. This research uses literary sociology approach with Gramsci's hegemony theory. This type of research is a qualitative research with the data source being novel Dharitri by Nellaneva. The data were obtained by documentation techniques and then analyzed using Miles & Huberman qualitative data analysis technique which was adapted with literary analysis method according to research needs. The research results consist of three discussions. First, the hegemony of the Dharitri government (superordinate group) on the Dharitri population (subordinate group) takes the form of ideological, cultural, state and intellectual hegemony. More specifically, in terms of exercising power, the Dharitri Government manifests ideological expression through technology, language and regulations. Second, the forms of hegemony exercised by the Dharitri government on the Dharitri population have had both positive and negative impacts. The Dharitri government succeeded in carrying out forms of hegemony. This shows that ideology which is managed well by the government will be able to get approval from Dharitri population. Third, the results of the research will be implemented into novel learning materials aimed at XII high school students. This research was expected to provide theoretical and practical benefits. Abstract:
This study investigates the hegemonic practices depicted in George Orwell’s “1984” and Okky Mandasari’s “Entrok,” comparing the methods of state control and indoctrination in both novels. Hegemony, as conceptualized by Gramsci, involves not just physical dominance but also ideological influence and societal consensus. This research employs a qualitative inductive method to explore how these novels represent state hegemony through their narratives and characters “1984” portrays a dystopian society where The Party exerts total control, influencing citizens from childhood through public spectacles and constant surveillance, leading to pervasive fear and compliance. Similarly, “Entrok” depicts the New Order era in Indonesia, where the state employs indoctrination intimidation to maintain power, affecting individuals and their communities. Through comparative literature theory, this study highlights the similarities and differences in the portrayal of state dominance in these two novels. The findings reveal that both novels illustrate the pervasive and multifaceted nature of hegemony, emphasizing the role of ideological control and the subtle mechanisms of power that shape societal behavior and beliefs.

Abstract:
This article explores ideological representation in Eka Kurniawan’s short story collection Corat-Coret di Toilet using Antonio Gramsci’s theory of hegemony. The study aims to examine how dominant and subaltern ideologies are contested and negotiated within the selected stories. Employing a qualitative descriptive method, the research focuses on four short stories that exhibit significant ideological formations: "Doodling in the Toilet," "The Beauty Who Can’t Go Out at Night," "Peter Pan," and "The Capture of the Little Bread Thief." The findings reveal the presence of dominant ideologies such as idealism, feudalism, and capitalism, while the subaltern ideologies attempting negotiation include democracy, humanism, liberalism, and nationalism. Each story presents ideological resistance, yet the negotiations ultimately fail due to the persistence of dominant power. In Gramscian terms, the hegemony depicted in these narratives aligns with minimum hegemony, where consensus between rulers and the ruled is absent. The study also concludes that Eka Kurniawan, as an organic intellectual, does not succeed in creating a transformative ideological shift. Instead, the stories illustrate ongoing struggles without resolution. This research contributes to the understanding of literature as a site of ideological conflict and suggests future studies examine other dimensions of Gramsci’s hegemony within Indonesian literary texts.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to consider the role of accounting in the construction and maintenance of political hegemony during Mao’s People’s Commune movement in China between 1958 and 1966. Drawing on concepts of ideological power and intellectual diffusion in political and civil society from Gramsci’s theory of hegemony, it analyses the process by which accounting intellectuals established a set of socialist accounting practices to meet the political challenges of the People’s Commune. Design/methodology/approach Gramsci’s theory is adopted to examine how the accounting systems of People’s Commune acted as a mechanism that reflected Mao’s political ideas. Findings This paper demonstrates that the accounting system that emerged during these socio-political movements served the ideological purpose of reinforcing Mao’s political ideology and his hegemonic leadership. Accounting functioned within the spheres of both political and civil society to facilitate a national collective will, and to construct behaviours that satisfied the political requirements of the People’s Commune. Originality/value This paper will contribute to the accounting history in China from 1958 to 1966.

Abstract:
Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard is dystopian, young adult fantasy novel setting up in the Kingdom of Norta where the construction of a class in society is determined by blood color; Silver and Red. In this novel, there is a depiction on how power and ruling position could be achieved by utilizing a process of negotiating beliefs and values rather than conducting a full coercive domination. The Silvers as the dominant class indoctrinating ideology using hegemonic apparatuses before finally gaining concensus and achieving ruling position from the Reds as subordinate class. This study uses qualitative research method. As the theoretical framework to analyze the data in the novel, this study utilizes the theory of hegemony by Antonio Gramsci. The purpose of this study is to discover how hegemony operation is constructed by the ruling class to subordinate class and to find out the ideological construction in Red Queen. The result of this study elaborates that hegemony operation works through several stages. This study also discover that hegemony operation depicted in the novel is correlatively related to the issue of racial discrimination and white supremacy in the United States. The ideological construction that is built in the Red Queen novel is to resist the totalitarian government with Silvers’ ideology that put the Reds powerless and inferior. From this result, it can be concluded that Red Queen as a cultural product acts as one of the hegemonic apparatuses to spread certain ideology of the author to the reader.

Abstract:
Recently, some men have taken their wives' last names upon marriage rather than following tradition. The goal of this study was to examine the attitudes that men and women have toward these nontraditional men. Ideological hegemony and social identity theory comprised the framework for examining participants' beliefs. A survey first elicited participants' extant sexist beliefs about men and the characteristics of a nontraditional man compared to a traditional man. An open-ended question further explored participants' opinions. The results indicated that benevolent sexism influences respondents' attitudes towards nontraditional men and that most respondents view nontraditional men as more nurturing and committed to their marriage than traditional men. The results further revealed a dichotomy of positive and negative attitudes towards nontraditional men indicating that society's feelings about nontraditional men are changing.

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives are used to respond to and deflect criticism regarding unfair labour standards in Global South production sites. This study, focusing on Sri Lankan apparel industry, reveals that Global South apparel suppliers deploy CSR initiatives as a political strategy to diffuse female workers’ consciousness of their exploitation, and as a lived shopfloor practice to co-opt workers in managerial agendas. Adopting theories of intersectionality, hegemony, and labour process, and deploying an interpretive, qualitative methodology, this thesis exposes the implicit and explicit exclusion and suppression of female worker voice in the CSR agenda of global production sites.
Abstract:
xiii, 253 p.
This project presents a critical engagement with the concept of ideology. It advances the view that political ideologies can be regarded as distinctive narrative styles and as such can be analyzed in their peculiar discursive formations. It specifically concentrates on liberalism, which I regard as the dominant ideology in much of "the West" today. My study contributes to the scholarship at the intersection between contemporary political theory, theories of language, and comparative politics. By employing simple instruments of semiotics I show how the discourse of liberalism organizes the production and deployment of political meaning. In particular, I argue that a critical engagement with the texts of thinkers ranging from John Locke to John Stuart Mill and John Rawls can contribute to unveiling the deep structures of liberal discourse. I maintain that these structures constitute liberalism as a "grammar" which operates by organizing political content around key concepts like individual agency, rationality, and anthropocentrism. Crucially, liberalism also acts as a "meta-ideology" capable of expressing alternative positions through its versatile grammatical infrastructure. I analyze contemporary theorists like Will Kymlicka, Robert Putnam, and Philip Pettit, and argue that they engage in similar intellectual projects, incorporating elements of communitarianism and republicanism in a liberal framework. In the second part of my dissertation I inquire into the possibility of alternative meta-ideological constellations. In particular, I focus on the contribution of Jean-Luc Nancy: I argue that his characterization of "being-in-common" as the fundamental position of existence can replace the liberal tenet of individualism as the basic assumption on human nature. Finally, I ground these abstract reflections in the concrete reality of the community of Badolato, in southern Italy, where locals and immigrants alike seem to understand and organize their relationality outside of a paradigm of liberal toleration. I present the results of the ethnographic research that I conducted in Badolato and I characterize that experience of encounter with the other as an example of the practices of hospitality envisioned by the late Jacques Derrida.
Committee in charge: Deborah Baumgold, Co-Chair; Leonard Feldman, Co-Chair; Dennis Galvan, Member; Craig Parsons, Member; Massimo Lollini, Outside Member

Hassard, Frank. "Heritage, hermeneutics and hegemony : a study of ideological division in the field of conservation-restoration." Thesis, Bucks New University, 2006. http://bucks.collections.crest.ac.uk/9921/.

Full text
Abstract:
In recent times, the concept of ‘intangible heritage’ has gained credence within the international heritage community, reflecting wider concerns relating to the cultural impact of global economic, technological and political forces. For many, intangible heritage represents a vital living mediation of the material past (i.e. tangible heritage) which deepens its significance and meaning-conferring qualities. This thesis explores how in recent times, the intangible heritage became ‘separated’ from the tangible heritage in such a way as to bring about ideological division within the field of heritage preservation and a sense of discontinuity with the past – particularly relating to the practice of restoration and its patrimony of expertise. The thesis argues that this has been attributable to an ‘institutionalised’ conception of heritage based essentially on a historiography of materials located in the ideological site of the museum – the repository where tangible heritage is housed, organised, interpreted, conserved, restored and displayed in such ways as to confer meaning upon the material world. By drawing extensively upon evidence from the literature and engaging the conservation-restoration field, the thesis develops discussion around the emergence (and subsequent institutionalisation) of a relatively recent scientific paradigm of practice – ‘scientific restoration’ – largely shaped by this ‘museological’ vision of heritage. It also considers how the work of Cesare Brandi came to be instrumental in the formulation of this vision but argues that such conceptions have been predicated upon a misappropriation of his ideas and a misreading of historical heritage preservation ideologies that has done much to contribute to tensions evident within the heritage community. To this end, the thesis aims to redress this historical impasse by reconsidering the function of restoration – especially in terms of what is added to the historical document – and reconciling the competing claims of the tangible and intangible by developing the concept of ‘authentic process’.

Harris, Kira Jade. "Leaving ideological social groups behind: A Grounded theory of psychological disengagement." Thesis, Edith Cowan University, Research Online, Perth, Western Australia, 2015. https://ro.ecu.edu.au/theses/1587.

Full text
Abstract:
Much of the current disengagement literature focuses on the causes of an individual leaving a radical social group with the intention of countering fundamentalism and violent extremism. However, the link between the cause and the decision to disengage is unclear as one cause may facilitate disengagement for one member and not another. Minimal empirical research exists on the individual’s psychological experience of disengagement and the studies that have been done tend to focus on sole ideologies or group types. What is lacking in the field of disengagement is a broader understanding of the core psychological experience across a broad range of ideological social group types. The current research addressed this gap by including participants from a diverse range of ideological social groups, where the criterion that defined these social groups was the member’s identification. The strength of identification to the group was to be sufficiently strong so that members were willing to jeopardise their wellbeing, or that of others, for the benefit of the group’s objectives. The current research sought to further the understanding of psychological disengagement and to construct a theory drawn from the experiences of those who have left ideological social groups. In-depth interviews were conducted with 27 former members of social groups with high levels of entitativity, such as one percent motorcycle clubs, military special operations forces, cults, white supremacy, and fundamental religious or political groups. Utilising a grounded theory methodology and analysis, the discrepancy between group membership and the self-concept was identified as the core theme in the disengagement experience. The grounded theory of psychological disengagement details the process of experiencing a threat relating to the self, identifying a self-concept discrepancy and subsequent methods to reduce this discrepancy, achieving physical disengagement and developing a post-exit identity. The findings demonstrate that participants followed a consistent pattern of moving towards membership reappraisal and disengagement. This process began with a personal threat that was related to, or derived from, the social group, and ended with the reformation of the self as a former member. The group was perceived as inconsistent with the self-concept held by the participant in four domains; (1) competence, (2) virtue, (3) power and (4) significance. The inconsistency and the psychological identification with such a group conflicted with personally held goals and values, and threatened the participants’ psychological integrity. For the participants in the current study, this self-discrepancy was resolved by employing four self-concept management strategies to restore psychological integrity; (1) the forming of an atypical identity, (2) utilising adaptive preferences (3) using justifications and rationalisations, and (4) the making of amends. These self-concept strategies, applied in isolation or in combination, contributed to participants psychologically, as well as physically, disengaging from the group as a means of restoring consistency between their self-concept and social identity. The physical disengagement led to initial feelings of relief over the decision-making process and freedom over the removal of lifestyle restrictions. These positive emotions gave way to feelings of grief over the loss of positive in-group aspects and concerns for the future. A post exit identity was adopted when the group experience was embraced and personal reflections followed a more positive approach. Implications for policy and specific areas where members may benefit from additional support are identified. This research contributes to the current understanding of disengagement, as well as group dependency and ideological attachment from a unique perspective. Directions for future research and implementations of the findings of the current research are discussed.

Abstract:
Rooted in ideology critique, this dissertation studies the construction of democracy in the coverage of Venezuela during the era of President Hugo Chávez. The aim of this endeavor is twofold. First, the dissertation aims to understand the relationship between ideology and the construction of democracy in journalism on foreign political phenomena. Second, it attempts to explore the ways in which the relationship between ideology and democracy in journalism serves to legitimize or delegitimize the struggle for social justice in nations in the global South vis-à-vis the political and economic fundamentals of global capitalism. The dissertation comprises three articles that study the construction of democracy in depictions of the Venezuelan political system and its key political actors. Article I studies the construction of (il)legitimate democracy in relation to the Venezuelan government, Article II explores the construction of difference between Chávez’s supporters and his opponents, and Article III studies the coverage of the coup d’état against Chávez in 2002. All three articles are methodologically rooted in critical discourse analysis and rely on materials from a sample of three elite newspapers: Dagens Nyheter (Sweden), El País (Uruguay), and the New York Times (US). Across the studies, there are four macro-strategies that in different ways serve to ideologically load the notion of democracy. Three of these strategies – the constructs of populism, of power concentration and of difference – serve to define political deviance and to (de)legitimize political actors in relation to democracy. The fourth macro-strategy, relativization, serves to justify actions that contradict established democratic principles but serve greater politico-ideological goals. (De)legitimation in relation to democracy corresponds with the closeness of a group of actors to the dominant political practices and values within global capitalism. Journalistic reporting thus follows a post-political gaze; it is generally in accordance with the political consensus that characterizes the post-Cold War era. Through this gaze, any challenge to the political tenets of global capitalism fails on democratic grounds.

Bielschowsky, Ricardo. "Brazilian economic thought (1945-1964) : the ideological cycle of developmentalism." Thesis, University of Leicester, 1985. http://hdl.handle.net/2381/35469.

Full text
Abstract:
This work contains an exposition and analysis of Brazilian economic thought as found in books, specialized periodicals in the field of economics, and governmental writings between 1945 and 1964. A systematization of that thought is offered along with a reproduction of the debates held between the distinct currents of economic thought within the country. The economic thought covered herein has been politically engaged in the discussion of the Brazilian process of industrialization. The key organizing concept that gives unity to our account is that of "developmentalism", seen as the ideology of transforming Brazilian society through an economic project of state-supported industrialization as a way to overcome underdevelopment. In the introductory section and serving as a link between economic theory and Brazilian thinking, an exposition is made of the basic elements of ECLA'S analysis, which served as the major theoretical support to the opposition to liberalism in Brazil. The main body of the work is divided into two parts. In Part I a description is made of the essential features of the five major currents of thought found in the period covered by this study, i.e., three variables of developmentalism (private sector, "non-nationalist" public sector, and "nationalist" public sector), neo-liberalism (to the "right" of developmentalism), and the socialist current (to its "left"). In each current of thought emphasis is given to the work of their most representative economists, with special reference to the thought of Eugenio Guidin, Roberto Simonsen, Roberto Campos and Celso Furtado. A chapter is added to cover Ignacio Rangel's thinking. In Part II of the work an account is given of the evolution of the developmentalist controversy and an assessment is made of its historical determinants. For that purpose, a periodization has been selected on the basis of the movement of economic ideas. The key concept adopted, i.e. the idea of an "idealogical cycle of developmentalism", as well as the entire organization of the text, aim to explain the historical significance of Brazilian economic thought in its connections with the movement of Brazilian history itself.

Botha, Maricel. "Chapter 7. Nollywood and indigenous language translation flows." In Translation Flows. John Benjamins Publishing Company, 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.1075/btl.163.07bot.

Abstract:
Africa’s multiplicity of languages has seen little manifestation in large-scale translation flows of the indigenous African languages in the post-independence period, largely because of the hegemony of ex-colonial languages. Against this background, Nollywood’s stimulation of translation from and into indigenous African languages in a way that crosses national borders and exhibits some “velocity” is exceptional. This chapter investigates Nollywood’s relationship with indigenous language translation and accounts for the conditions that promote indigenous language use in inter-societal information flows. The investigation employs the concepts of selective mediation and permeability as described in Sergey Tyulenev’s application of Niklas Luhmann’s social systems theory to explore how Nollywood-stimulated indigenous language translations can pierce through language barriers, while operating selectively under the influence of social and ideological conditioning.

Abstract:
Physical and agonistic cultures form the bedrock of human culture and give rise to sport culture. Together and separately, this trio forges unique social values. Some of these values, such as the pursuit of physical excellence and the principles of agonistic social interactions, have been long celebrated. Meanwhile, other values have evolved into contemporary cultural norms, including ideologies stemming from the quest for physical perfection, like eugenics and racial theories. My research explores the evolution of various values within these cultural spheres across an extensive historical scale. The analysis, once again, sharpens well-known sociological findings about ethical deviations and negative shifts toward a desire for rapid improvement of human "material" that frequently occur within totalitarian regimes significantly swayed by ideological biases. This insight leads to a discussion within a specific part of conflict theory in sociology focused on Antonio Gramsci's concept of "hegemony," which suggests that any altered values (superstructures) are a result of the formed by intellectuals prevailing ideologies that dominate a particular historical period, shaping its cultural priorities. Analyzing different superstructures I propose an antithesis: stable cultural trends (structures), emerging from deep-rooted biosocial interactions among people, are immutable because they even precede the economic foundations of society.

Abstract:
Political masculinity is portrayed in ways that are full of aggression through the gun, war and the military. After World War II subsided and entered a new chapter of the Cold War, inter-physical wars began to be replaced by ideological wars between the west and east poles, communists and liberalists. Eventhough physical warfare has subsided, various countries still highlight the masculine character to show its extension through hegemony that leads to soft power. This study conducted information searches through literature studies and group discussion forums about global political masculinity which were then extracted in the form of qualitative descriptive research. The goal of this research is to determine the shift in the practice of masculinity in the global political constellation. The results showed that there has been a shift in the practice of masculinity in several countries due to several factors, one of the most significant is globalization. Globalization requires countries to open up and lessen arrogance in order to maintain national stability and its existance also strengthen bargaining position in the global political constellation all at once.

Abstract:
Exactly one hundred years have passed since the publication of the final edition of Oswald Spengler’s Twilight of the West. His gloomy predictions are coming true in a bizarre and even monstrous manner. The accelerated pace of the postmodern twilight requires the use of not so long ago completely unknown terms, such as “transgenderism,” “critical race theory,” “intersectionality,” “white privilege” etc., not to mention the ever-growing number of letters associated with the LGBTQ+ cult. We are witnessing a civilizational and moral decline unprecedented in history. The current twilight of the West has numerous secondary manifestations, such as the celebration of deviance as a laudable “lifestyle,” the imposition of multiculturalism and unrestricted immigration from the Third World, the demonization of the white, heterosexual male as the source of the so-called toxic muscularity etc. This article aims to penetrate the roots of the post-postmodern, increasingly posthuman ideological foundation of the West-as-ideology. It is found in de-Christianization, which began in Italy in the late Renaissance, received its mature form in the French Enlightenment, and today has a chthonic, distinctly thanatological character. Euro-globalist and American-hegemonic forms of madness are only apparently different. They share the same hatred towards traditional, spontaneously emerging societies and cultures. The differences between the two models of Sunovrat are not in the different concepts of global political and ideological monism, but above all in the pace and the means of implementing the cultural and moral revolution.

Abstract:
The aim of the article is to concretize the concept of political ideology in the aspect of its matrix structure and in the context of the cognitive-evolutionary approach. Based on Michael Frieden's morphological approach to the analysis of ideological consciousness, the concept of cognitive-ideological matrices is introduced, which allows us to describe the process of transition from proto-ideological to ideological concepts proper, especially at the level of individual consciousness. The identification of the ideological concept as the main “gene” of conceptual variability and inheritance made it possible to describe the main parameters of the evolution of political ideologies and associate it with changes taking place at the individual consciousness level. The described concept was tested in a series of sociological studies of youth consciousness conducted in 2015-2016 and 2018-2020. As a result of the study, it was possible to first identify the “zero level” of ideology, at which the minds of young respondents are potentially open to the influence of diverse and often mutually exclusive ideological orientations, and second, to pinpoint the changes that have occurred in the cognitive ideological matrices of Rostov-on-Don students over the past five years. This study was conducted by scientists from the southern Federal University.

Vlaicu, Razvan. Inequality, Participation, and Polarization: Economic Origins of Partisan Policies. Inter-American Development Bank, 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.18235/0005264.

Full text
Abstract:
The upward co-movement of income inequality and partisan polarization in the United S is typically attributed to intensified class conflict or a political wealth bias. This paper formalizes a theory of polarization where changes in the income distribution do not affect citizens' policy preferences, but instead change their patterns of political participation: aggregate voting decreases relative to aggregate giving, reducing the electoral penalty for partisan policies. By endogenizing party composition, the model captures both the ideological and compositional dimensions of polarization, and addresses less-discussed polarization features, such as intra-party homogeneity and the increase in safe seats. According to the model, observed polarization patterns imply that parties have diverged more than candidates, and that the gap between party and candidate divergence has increased with income inequality.

Full text
Abstract:
Despite a rapid increase in domestic terrorism investigations in the United States, the threat that domestic terrorism poses to the homeland remains unclear. This is due to a lack of a comprehensive domestic terrorism legal framework that fully encompasses the variety of ideological groups present in the US. Using a sample of twenty-six QAnon and eighteen incel cases that have been federally prosecuted, our team examined how the US prosecutorial system utilises non terrorism-related charges in addressing domestic violent extremism (DVE) cases. We propose a more inclusive DVE legal framework that expands the categorisation of VE ideologies, identifies specific DVE charges, and requires the engagement of the prosecutorial and probationary offices. By recognising Misogyny Motivated Violent Extremists (MMVEs) and Conspiracy Theory Motivated Violent Extremists (CTMVEs) as their own threat categories, it would allow researchers and practitioners to gain a deeper understanding of how pervasive the threat posed by these ideologies is.

Leslie, Jean, and William Pasmore. Leading Beyond Barriers: Creating Impact in an Age of Polycrisis. Center for Creative Leadership, 2025. https://doi.org/10.35613/ccl.2025.2060.

Full text
Abstract:
This paper examines the structural impediments to addressing systemic global challenges in what scholars term a “polycrisis” environment—where multiple crises interact and amplify each other through interconnected systems. The analysis identifies two primary categories of barriers: belief systems that disconnect individuals from systemic issues and social barriers that hinder collective action. Drawing on successful historical interventions like smallpox eradication and polio elimination, the authors establish four essential components for systemic change: technological capability, cross-boundary collaboration, sustained engagement, and scalable resources. However, they argue that human-centered obstacles, particularly entrenched belief systems and social barriers, often determine success or failure despite technical feasibility. The paper systematically analyzes eleven belief barriers across three categories: ideological (including neoliberalism and human exceptionalism), awareness-related (such as apathy and information overload), and confidence-related (including distrust in science and issue complexity). Additionally, it examines three critical collective action barriers: vested interests, disagreement on solutions, and lack of collective will. To address these challenges, the authors propose an integrated framework combining Direction-Alignment-Commitment (DAC) theory with the Gleicher/Dannemiller Change Formula (D × V × F > R). They advocate for four high-leverage strategies: fostering personal ownership of systemic issues, driving continuous experiential learning, scaling small wins into broader change, and transforming individual stakes into collective will. The research particularly emphasizes leadership development as a critical force multiplier, serving as a bridge between theoretical frameworks and practical application. The authors conclude that successful intervention in systemic crises requires not only technical solutions but also transformation of human belief systems and social barriers through sustained, collaborative engagement.

Kokurina, Olga Yu. STATE SOVEREIGNTY AND PUBLIC RESPONSIBILITY OF GOVERNMENT IN THE LIGHT OF A SYSTEMIC-ORGANIC APPROACH: INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH. SIB-Expertise, 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.12731/er0755.18122023.

Full text
Abstract:
This electronic resource contains a critical summary of the problems of sovereign statehood and the responsibility of public authority in the light of an interdisciplinary systemic organic approach. The author reveals the essence and content of the categories “sovereign statehood” and “responsibility of public authority” as key factors of the state legal system for ensuring the life of the Russian Federation in the conditions of the emergence of a new world order. It is shown that the multi-valued category of “statehood” (statehood, stateness, nationhood, nationness) reflects the complexity of the concept, which characterizes the status and ability of the state to carry out its functions, and on the other hand, reflects the cultural-historical and spiritual-ideological unity of society, which is the deepest internal semantic content both preceding the state and completing its sociohistorical formation in the course of state development and historical transformations. Based on the systemic-organic approach and within the framework of the structure of the Aristotelian tetrad, the author reveals an integral model of the political and legal phenomenon of “statehood”, in which the final cause (ethion) is determined by “sovereign statehood”, which presupposes unity, integrity, actual autonomy, independence, independence and self-sufficiency states in making decisions that ensure the historical existence and development of the country. The work presents a theoretical understanding of social (public) solidarity as a legal construct and instrument of social harmony and integrity of the state-legal body of the Russian Federation. It is shown that public solidarity, as a constitutional and administrative-legal phenomenon in its positive and negative forms, creates the necessary basis for the implementation of the principle of mutual responsibility of the individual, society and state. An idea of the responsibilities of the state, its bodies and officials to the individual and society is given, the role and place of public legal responsibility of holders of power in the solidary social mechanism is outlined. In general, the results of interdisciplinary research are aimed at identifying key factors in social theory and practice that contribute to the acquisition of true independence and self-sufficiency of Russian statehood and the preservation of the civilizational foundations of a multinational Russian society. The manual will be useful to undergraduate and graduate students studying social and political sciences, and anyone interested in the theory and practice of government.
