Abstract:
Abstract The purpose of this study was to investigate and to compare the physical-mechanical properties of a resin-modified calcium silicate material (TheraCal LC), used for pulp-capping, to MTA (Angelus) and a calcium hydroxide cement (Dycal). Specimens of each material (n=12) were prepared in Teflon molds (3.58 mm x 3 mm) and measured before and after immersion in distilled water for 24 h and 30 days to evaluate the dimensional change. The same specimens were submitted to compressive strength test on a Universal Testing Machine (Instron) (1 mm/min). Root canals were filled with the cements (n=8), and after 24 h, the bond strength (push-out test) to dentin was also assessed on a Universal Testing Machine (1 mm/min). Eight additional specimens of TheraCal LC were prepared to evaluate the bond strength immediately after light curing. Data were analyzed using One-Way ANOVA, and Tukey or Bonferroni post hoc tests (p<0.05). Percentage expansion of TheraCal LC was above the Specification No. 57 of ANSI/ADA, in both periods. The dimensional change for TheraCal LC was higher than MTA in 24 h and 30 days; and Dycal in 30 days (p<0.05). TheraCal LC had higher compressive and bond strength to dentin in comparison with MTA and Dycal (p<0.05). Although TheraCal LC expanded more than the ANSI/ADA recommendation, its compressive and push-out bond strength to dentin were satisfactory and superior to MTA and Dycal.

Abstract:
In this study, we assessed the biocompatibility and bioactivity of various pulp capping materials—ProRoot MTA (Dentsply Tulsa Dental Specialties), Biodentine (Septodont), TheraCal LC (Bisco), and Dycal (Dentsply Caulk)—on human dental pulp stem cells (hDPSCs). Experimental disks (diameter, 7 mm; height, 4 mm) were stored in a humified incubator at 37 °C for 48 h. Then, the pulp capping materials were tested for cytotoxic effects by methyl-thiazoldiphenyl-tetrazolium and scratch wound healing assays, and for mineralization potential by Alizarin red S (ARS) staining assay and alkaline phosphatase enzyme (ALP) activity. Cell viability and cell migration did not significantly differ between ProRoot MTA, Biodentine, and control (p > 0.05). TheraCal LC exhibited slower cell migration on days 2–4 compared to control (p < 0.05), and Dycal showed no cell migration. ALP activity was highest with Biodentine on days 10 and 14, and was lowered with TheraCal LC and Dycal (p < 0.05). In the ARS assay, hDPSCs grown in ProRoot MTA and TheraCal LC eluates showed significantly increased mineralized nodule formation on day 21 compared to Biodentine, Dycal, and control (p < 0.05). These findings indicate that ProRoot MTA, Biodentine, and TheraCal LC exhibit better biocompatibility and bioactivity than Dycal.

Abstract:
Objective: In a tooth with deep dentinal caries; judicious removal of infected dentin and isolating affected dentin from oral fluids with suitable biocompatible material is called indirect pulp therapy (IPT). This randomized clinical trial was done to evaluate and compare the efficacy of Biodentine, Theracal LC and. Dycal as an indirect pulp capping agent in young permanent teeth. Study Design: IPT was performed in 60 young permanent molars with caries approaching pulp in 55 healthy children using Biodentine, Theracal and Dycal. A 2–3mm layer of GIC was placed over the intervening material followed by restoration of cavity with composite. Clinical and radiographic examinations were conducted at 3 weeks, 3 months, 6 months,12 months, 18 months and 24 months. The data was compared using chi-square test at a significance level of 0.05. Results: By end of 24 months ,54 teeth presented for follow up with overall success rate of 100% in Theracal, 94.44% in Biodentine, and 77.78% in Dycal. Overall success of Theracal was statistically significant in comparison to Biodentine and Dycal at 24 months follow up (p= 0.03) Conclusions: Radiographic and clinical outcomes of Theracal and Biodentine suggest their use as an alternative material for IPT in young permanent molars with higher success.

Abstract:
We compared calcium silicate-based pulp capping materials to conventional calcium hydroxide in terms of their biological properties and potential effects on odontogenic differentiation in human dental pulp stem cells (hDPSCs). We cultured hDPSCs on disks (7-mm diameter, 4-mm high) of ProRoot MTA (Dentsply Tulsa Dental Specialties), Biodentine (Septodont), TheraCal LC (Bisco), or Dycal (Dentsply Tulsa Dental Specialties). Cell viability was assessed with cell counting (CCK) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Odontogenic activity was assessed by measuring alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity and gene expression (quantitative real-time PCR). CCK assays showed that Dycal reduced cell viability compared to the other materials (p < 0.05). SEM showed low and absent cell attachment on TheraCal LC and Dycal disks, respectively. hDPSCs exposed to TheraCal LC and Dycal showed higher ALP activity on day 6 than the control group (p < 0.05). The day-9 Runx2 expression was higher in the ProRoot MTA and TheraCal LC groups than in the control group (p < 0.05). On day 14, the ProRoot MTA group showed the highest dentin sialophosphoprotein levels (not significant; p > 0.05). In conclusion, various pulp capping materials, except Dycal, exhibited biological properties favorable to hDPSC viability. ProRoot MTA and TheraCal LC promoted higher Runx2 expression than Biodentine. Future studies should explore the odontogenic potential of pulp capping materials.

Abstract:
The aim of this paper was to assess the differences in tissue response to implantation during 15, 30 and 45 days in the subcutaneous connective tissue of Wistar rats from three biomaterials: Angelus MTA®, Theracal LC®, and Angelus MTA® to which 25% bioglass G3 was added. Twenty-four Wistar rats were used, the materials were inserted into the rat’s dorsal area in silicone tubes 5 mm long by 1.5 mm diameter. Histological reaction was assessed at 15, 30, and 45 days after implantation. They were then stained with hematoxylin eosin and evaluated by two observers. Data were analyzed using Fisher’s exact test and Mann–Whitney’s U test was used to determine the association between variables. Angelus MTA induced the formation of dystrophic calcifications twice as much as Theracal LC (p < 0.05). The addition of G3 did not affect the greater or lesser occurrence of calcifications (p > 0.05). Theracal LC and MTA plus G3 caused an inflammatory reaction, which was chronic at 15 days and decreased in intensity, almost disappearing after 45 days. Theracal LC, as well as Angelus MTA plus G3, were well tolerated when implanted in the subcutaneous connective tissue of rat. Histologically, no inconvenience was found for the use by direct contact of Theracal LC, and the mixture of MTA with 25% bioactive glass G3, in the tissue of Wistar rats.

Abstract:
The aim of the present study was to evaluate the bond strength of methacrylate-based (MB) composites, silorane-based (SB) composites, and glass-ionomer cement (GIC) in comparison to TheraCal and to compare those findings with the reference pulp capping material (MTA). Study design: A total of 90 acrylic blocks were prepared. Each of the blocks were prepared as 15 mm high and 10 mm diameter and the blocks had a 2 mm high and a 5 mm diameter central hole. In 45 of the samples, the holes were fully filled with TheraCal and in the other 45 samples, the holes were fully filled with MTA. The TheraCal and the MTA samples were randomly divided into 3 subgroups of 15 specimens each: Group-1: Methacrylate-based (MB) composite; Group-2: Silorane-based (SB) composite; and Group-3: Glass-ionomer cement (GIC). For the shear bond strength (SBS) test, each block was secured in a universal testing machine. After the SBS test, the fractured surfaces were examined under a stereomicroscope at ×25 magnification. Results: The analysis of variance that compared the experimental groups revealed the presence of significant differences among the groups (P < 0.001). The highest (19.3 MPa) and the lowest (3.4 MPa) bond strength value were recorded for the MB composite-TheraCal and the GIC-TheraCal, respectively. There were significant differences in bond strength between the TheraCal and the MTA groups for the MB composite subgroup (P < 0.001) and the SB composite subgroup (P < 0.05); however, there was no significant difference in bond strength for the GIC subgroup (P ≯ 0.05). Conlusions: The results from this in vitro study suggest that the new pulp capping material, known as light-curable MTA, showed clinically acceptable and higher shear bond scores compared to MTA when used with the MB composite.

Abstract:
Background. This study aimed to compare the in vitro cytotoxicity of Theracal LC, BiodentineTM, iRoot BP Plus, and MTA Angelus on human pulp fibroblasts (HPF). Methods. Fifteen discs from each calcium silicate-based material were prepared in sterile Teflon molds. After setting, the fabricated discs were eluated with a culture medium for 24 h. HPF cells were plated onto 24-well plates at 5×103 cells/well, and the cells were exposed to the material eluates. The cell viability was evaluated with MTT assay at three different times (24, 48, and 72 h). Data were statistically analyzed. The apoptotic/necrotic status of HPF cells exposed to material eluates was determined by flow cytometry. Results. The differences between the effects of Theracal LC, BiodentineTM, MTA Angelus, and iRoot BP Plus on HPF cells were found to be statistically significant (P<0.05). Theracal LC was found to be more cytotoxic considering other vital pulp capping materials at 24- (28.3%), 48- (44.9%), and 72-hour (49.2%) intervals. On the other hand, BiodentineTM showed the least cytotoxic effects (97.1%, 130.0%, and 103.7%, respectively) According to flow cytometry results, Theracal LC material increased apoptosis/necrosis ratios compared to the other materials. Conclusion. Based on the results of the present study, BiodentineTM, MTA Angelus, and iRoot BP Plus can be classified as biocompatible materials in vital endodontic treatments. However, the Theracal LC materials should be used carefully due to their cytotoxic effects.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Föräldrarnas ångestnivå låg strax under cut-off gränsen för mild ångest.

Abstract:
Attachment theory is a fundamental framework established to understand mental health and emotion regulation in children and adults. Studies have indicated that disruptions to attachment within caregiver-child relationships can result in several psychological and behavioural challenges in children. As a result, various attachment-based interventions have been developed to remediate these relational challenges within caregiver-child dyads. Theraplay® is one such therapeutic modality that is play-based and involves the caregiver and child within the therapeutic process. Despite its popularity among practitioners, Theraplay® has not received much attention in literature with limited consideration given to its implementation in contexts outside of the United States of America (USA). Therefore, the aim of this study is to explore therapists’ perceptions on the implementation of Theraplay® in the South African context. An exploratory qualitative research design situated within an interpretive paradigm was adopted to explore the perceptions of research participants regarding implementing Theraplay® in South Africa. Through purposive sampling, and secondary snowball sampling, six participants—trained in Theraplay®—were selected to take part in the study. Individual semi-structured interviews were conducted with each participant and transcripts were analysed via inductive thematic analysis. The following salient themes emerged across the data set: 1) overall potential of Theraplay® as a therapeutic modality, 2) applicability of Theraplay® in South Africa, 3) impact of resource availability on Theraplay® in South Africa, and 4) role of caregiver accessibility and influence on Theraplay®. Overall, participants valued Theraplay® as an attachment-based modality but considered administrative challenges as requiring further deliberation pertaining to contextual and cultural aspects of this therapeutic intervention for South Africa. This may stimulate further research on possible context-specific adaptations or additions to Theraplay® in order to respond more efficiently through psychological treatment of children’s problems within the South African population. It also indicates the need to continue expanding research regarding caregiving practices within diverse cultural contexts such as South Africa.

Abstract:
The low levels of international experience and global projection makes companies more vulnerable to market competitiveness and creates unnecessary ambiguity and risk. This realization must enable companies to respond to such challenges, namely by developing an strategy for the acquisition and interpretation of relevant information. Motivated by their exposure to risk and given their international inexperience, companies tend to start their activities in nearby countries so as to gradually acquire such visibility and know-how. This initiative allows companies to understand the "factors that prevent or cause disturbances in the learning and understanding of foreign markets". On the one hand, the expansion into nearby markets where normally the company would tend to be more familiar with the business environment and contain risk is not necessarily a guaranteed recipe for success. On the other hand, the political and social changes of the last decade, the liberalization of global exchange, the multilateralization of the international trading system, the Internet, the definite assertion of English as the lingua franca of international business and the growth of the availability of human resources with expertise in the international field has severely limited geographic distance as a valid criterion for companies when it comes to choosing their markets. Nevertheless, in spite of the increased uniformity of global commerce, the real world of business remains marked by heterogeneity because there are still considerable differences in key fields of international business, particularly in the sphere of interpersonal relationships. These inhibit, in many cases, the understanding of external environments, of consumer preferences and the demand for new investment destinations as well as market opportunities. The remaining gaps still limit the penetration capacity of companies and the development of trust and confidence of partners in international networks. My interest in developing a curricular internship at Theralab came up allowed me to understand more clearly its expansion into new countries, in a company that was already highly internationalized in several fronts. The internship is the result of six months of experience in the exploration of international markets in food supplements segment. Hence, this report constitutes the final evaluation of the internship leading to my Masters degree in International Relations at the University of Beira Interior.

Abstract:
M.Ed.
Educational psychology honours students and Theraplay: a relational case inquiry. The South African community is moving towards fundamental socio-and-political restructuring. Part of the restructuring process is establishing suitable psychological intervention for the needy black child. From the researcher's understanding of the black child's need and knowledge of the different types of play therapies, the research question pertaining to how black students would relate to Theraplay emerged. The aim of the study was to investigate how black students relate to the proposed Theraplay principles. The method of investigation entailed superimposing a training model onto a research format in order to train and simultaneously observe the students relating to Theraplay. The five training phases of the model served as template to five observation opportunities for data collection. The data were analysed and consolidated in order to arrive at eight final categories. These eight categories were interpreted in relation to the proposed Theraplay principles, and black philosophy, in order to draw conclusions on how the students related to Theraplay. The research found that the students related well to the Theraplay principles of nurturing, intrusion, structuring and using the child as play object. The students related poorly, however, to the Theraplay principles of challenging, differentiating, playing in the "here-and-now" and controlling the sessions. Implications ofthe findings for practice, for educational psychology and for research are stated in conclusion to the inquiry.

Abstract:
Theraplay® is a brief, attachment-based parent-child psychotherapy approach that uses interactional play to establish ‘affectional' bonds between caregiver and child. Recent research related to Theraplay suggests it is an evidence-based practice for use in schools and clinical settings for a wide range of childhood problems, including those that are trauma-based. Of particular importance, Theraplay is emerging as an approach that is consistent with current neuroscience research on children's brain development and new understandings of attachment and disruption advanced by researchers. Young clients with some form of trauma-related symptoms comprise a large percentage of clinical cases, and present with complicated emotional and behavioral problems In this chapter, we will explore the basic theoretical underpinnings of Theraplay, the relevant mechanisms of change, and current evidence base. Although Theraplay can be used with a wide range of clients and problems, in this chapter, the focus will be on the applicatio with families with children who have experienced trauma.
