Let a be an integer and p a prime so that f(x)=x p -a is irreducible. Write f n (x) to indicate the n-fold composition of f(x) with itself. We study the monogenicity of number fields defined by roots of f n (x) and give necessary and sufficient conditions for a root of f n (x) to yield a power integral basis for each n≥1. Further, we generalize these criteria to an arbitrary number field.

It is conjectured that S(x,f)=o(xlogx) in the range x≥k ϵ . Lamzouri proved in [8] that this is true under the assumption of the Generalized Riemann Hypothesis (GRH) for L(s,f). In this paper, we prove that this conjecture holds under a weaker assumption than GRH. The dynamics of a rational surface map f:X⤏X are easier to analyse when f is “algebraically stable”. Here we investigate when and how this condition can be achieved by conjugating f with a birational change of coordinates. We show that if this can be done with a birational morphism, then there is a minimal such conjugacy. For birational f we also show that repeatedly lifting f to its graph gives a stable conjugacy. Finally, we give an example in which f can be birationally conjugated to a stable map, but the conjugacy cannot be achieved solely by blowing up.

The goal of this paper is to review several qualitative properties of well-known eigenvalue problems using a different perspective based on the theory of effective Hamiltonians, working exclusively on the Hopf–Cole transform of the equation. We revisit some monotonicity results as well as the derivation of several scaling limits by means of the Donsker–Varadhan formula, and we point out several differences between the case of quadratic Hamiltonians and non-quadratic ones.
