An apparatus and technique based on Angstrom's method is developed for measuring the thermal diffusivity of fruits and vegetables. The reproducibility of the results is found to be satisfactory with typical standard deviations of less than 6&'37. A detailed error analysis reveals that the accuracy of the technique is 7.1&'37. 碩士<br>國立臺灣海洋大學<br>海洋科學系<br>93<br>The purpose of this thesis is to use 10 years of sea surface height anomaly data and 22 years of Reynolds sea surface temperature (SST) data have been used to study the thermal variability of the Western Pacific Warm Pool (WPWP). The periods of variability and its trend are extracted by the Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) method. The core of WPWP is defined as the area where the SST is higher than 29.5°C. From the centroid movement of the warm core and the heat storage anomaly, we find that the most variable area within WPWP is between 10oN-10oS and 120oE-14

Experiments were conducted to investigate the macroscopic thermal behaviour of 2m diameter Jet A fires in crosswinds of 3m/s to 13m/s. Two scenarios were considered: with and without a 2.7m diameter, 10.8m long, blocking object situated 3.4m downwind of the fire. These scenarios simulated transportation accidents with the fire representing a burning pool of aviation fuel and the object simulating an aircraft fuselage. Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) is flammable when it forms a 5 – 15 percent volumetric concentration mixture with air at atmospheric conditions. When the LNG vapor comes in contact with an ignition source, it may result in fire and/or explosion. Because of flammable characteristics and dense gas behaviors, expansion foam has been recommended as one of the safety provisions for mitigating accidental LNG releases. The relationship between polymer chain architecture, crystallization behavior, and morphology formation was investigated. The structures formed are highly dependent on chain configuration and crystallization kinetics. Poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and Poly(ethylene-co-vinyl acetate) (EVA) random copolymers were studied. Sample characterization was performed using a variety of techniques, including spectroscopy, scattering, and calorimetry.
