Abstract:
Thermal cycling of a unit Sn0.7Cu solder was studied based on the steady-state creep constitutive equation and Matlab software. The results show that there is a steady-state cycle for the thermal cycling of unit Sn0.7Cu eutectic solder. In steady-state thermal cycling, the shear stress is increased with the increase of temperature. There is a stage of stress relaxation during high temperature. A liner relationship between maximum shear stress and maximum shear strain is observed during thermal cycling. The metastable cycle number is declined greatly with the increase of maximum shear strain.

The operation of chemical reactors, particularly those for producing benzene, is associated with the generation of a large amount of heat. Inaccurately chosen thermal regimes of performance in the reaction columns at large temperature gradients can be responsible for the occurrence of high thermal stresses that decrease the endurance of equipment elements. Therefore, it is quite topical to reveal, using the mathematical simulation approach, both positive and negative effects in relation to stress deformed state of equipment elements under different regimes of heat removal from the outside surf

In this study, 3D thermal stresses in composite laminates under steady-state through thickness thermal conduction are investigated by means of a stress function-based approach. One-dimensional thermal conduction is solved for composite laminate and the layerwise temperature distribution is calculated first. The principle of complementary virtual work is employed to develop the governing equations. Their solutions are obtained by using the stress function-based approach, where the stress functions are taken from the Lekhnitskii stress functions in terms of in-plane stress functions and out-of-p

When a fire occurs, the thermal expansion of concrete structure under such stress state is different from that under stress-free state. The thermal expansion strain of concrete under the three-dimensional stress undergoes strain increasing and strain stabilizing stages. At 600°C, the ma

Circumferential rod-fastened rotor is one kind of extensively applied structures of gas turbines which work at high temperature to expand hot gas and generate power. The steady-state temperature distribution of the turbine rotor as well as the thermal deformation and stress state were calculated through a thermo-mechanical analysis. A cyclic model of a four-disc rod-fastened turbine rotor assembly was built. A thermal analysis was carried out to obtain the steady-state thermal map of the turbine rotor with the thermal boundary conditions calculated through heat transfer empirical correlations.

The main reasons are that thin film technology enables access to unique physical properties and possibilities to miniaturize devices. Thin film devices are generally described in terms such as electrical, optical and magnetical properties. However, the lifetime of these devices is often limited by mechanical stresses causing plastic deformation. An effect of the plastic deformation is hillocking where isolated features are created on the film surface. The continual need to improve performance, reduce size as well as cost

By leveraging the gain competition between the principal polarization bases resulted from the thermal stress inside the isotropic gain crystal, the high-order structured pulses are found to reveal inhomogeneous polarized states with polarization singularities. Moreover, obvious polarization switching in the temporal domain is intriguingly observed under the significant coupling between the orthogonal polarization bases.

Abstract:
Static environmental chamber tests and flow tests at various pressure and temperature conditions were conducted to determine the effects on flow measurement values for two ultrasonic meters from two different manufacturers. Mechanical dimension changes produced by stress from pressure and thermal expansion or contraction at state conditions different from dry calibration and flow calibration conditions in the meters were predicted. The predicted flow measurement error was compared with the actual flow measurement error.

Abstract:
For buried pipelines a well established problem has been that of upheaval buckling. This occurs because the fluid is usually pumped through the pipes at elevated temperatures causing the pipeline to experience thermal expansion which, if restrained, leads to an increase in the axial stress in the pipeline possibly resulting in a buckling failure. A secondary phenomenon that has also been identified, particularly in loose sands and silts, involves floatation of pipelines through the backfill material, usually shortly after burial. The upheaval buckling limit state function developed in this pro

Abstract:
For pipelines that utilize high design factors, excessive plastic deformation may occur in the hoop direction under internal pressure applied during field hydrostatic testing. Excessive plastic deformation can lead to coating damage and subsequent corrosion. Therefore, a limit state function for excessive plastic deformation was established to address this condition. The limit state function was established as the allowable plastic strain minus the accumulated plastic hoop strain induced by hydrostatic test pressure. The objective of this study was to expand the limit state function library to

This report documents research performed to identify if gas injection and withdrawal temperatures of typical natural gas well completions could potentially result in failure of the casing through low-frequency cyclic fatigue. Finite element analyses of two salt cavern wells and one reservoir storage well were used to estimate the state of stress in the casing resulting from: (1) casing weight; (2) product pressures; (3) thermally induced stresses; and (4) external ground pressures, including salt creep. The range of stress and temperature conditions determined during simulations of gas service

Abstract:
Field bends in large diameter pipe are routinely used in the construction of oil and gas pipelines. Mild ripples along the intrados are often unavoidable where such bends have a high D/t or high yield strength. Present regulations and industry standards differ in their treatment of mild ripples, ranging from silence to prohibition, depending upon interpretation. Consequently, the application of acceptance standards for such features is inconsistent, leading to variable standards of inspection and probable scrapping of otherwise sound bends. Finite element analysis (FEA) was used to estimate th

For meat and meat products, secondary processes are those that relate to the downstream of the primary chilling of carcasses. Secondary processes include maturation chilling, deboning, portioning, mincing and other operations such as thermal processing (cooking) that create fresh meat, meat preparations and ready-to-eat meat products. This review systematically identified and summarised information relating to antimicrobial resistance (AMR) during the manufacture of secondary processed meatand meat products (SPMMP). Systematic searching of eight literature databases was undertaken and the resu
