Abstract:
The change of surface of Cd0.9Zn0.1Te crystal morphology after irradiation by pulsed Nd:YAG laser has been studied. Thermogradient effect (TGE) has the main role in the interaction process of laser radiation with semiconductors. A change of the irradiated surface relief has been observed by atom force microscope. Self-organizing nano-cones are observed on the irradiated surface of Cd0.9Zn0.1Te crystal at intensity of the laser in the range of 4.0 – 12.0 MW/cm2. A graded band gap structure with optical window was formed at the top of nano-cones.

Common waterhemp, giant foxtail, and velvetleaf seed germination in response to temperature was studied with a two-way thermogradient plate. Seeds were maintained under dark and wet conditions at 4 C for 12 wk, and velvetleaf seeds were scarified before the experiments were conducted. The seeds were germinated at 25 different temperature treatments. Minimum and optimum temperatures for velvetleaf germination were approximately 8 and 24 C, respectively. The effect of constant temperature on the germination rate and percentage of two cotton seed lots was determined using a thermogradient plate. A gradient of 10 ºC to 40 ºC was established across the plate so that temperatures changed 2 ºC for each 5 cm increment in length, resulting in sixteen different temperature treatments. The optimal temperature zone for germination was 28 ºC to 30 ºC.
