Abstract:
We develop a general perturbative theory of finite-coupling quantum thermometry up to second order in probe-sample interaction. By assumption, the probe and sample are in thermal equilibrium, so the probe is described by the mean-force Gibbs state. We prove that the ultimate thermometric precision can be achieved – to second order in the coupling – solely by means of local energy measurements on the probe. Hence, seeking to extract temperature information from coherences or devising adaptive schemes confers no practical advantage in this regime. Additionally, we provide a closed-form expressio

AbstractPreliminary fluid inclusion measurements have been made on quartz (whole rocks and segregations) and garnet from a blueschist terrain. Although further measurements are required, the fluids apparently associated with the blueschist event are aqueous with no thermometrically detectable CO2, a feature which is consistent with mineral-fluid equilibria studies. The salinity of the fluid inclusions is highly variable, from almost pure H2O to halite saturation, and a mechanism involving hydration reactions, such as proposed by Crawford et al. (1979), is suggested. Fluid inclusions associated

The results of experimental studies of sensitive elements of temperature transducers based on semiconductor thermometric material HfNi1-xCuxSn are presented. Thermometric materials HfNi1-xCuxSn, x=0.01–0.10, were produced by fusing a charge of components in an electric arc furnace with a tungsten electrode (cathode) in an atmosphere of purified argon under a pressure of 0.1 kPa on a copper water-cooled base (anode). Heat treatment of the alloys consisted of homogenizing annealing at a temperature of 1073 K. The samples were annealed for 720 hours. in quartz glass ampoules vacuumed to 1.0 Pa in

Abstract The present developments of rail-mounted traffic aim at higher speeds in the passenger and higher axle load in the freight traffic. As a consequence, a substantial increase of the loading of the wheels has to be regarded. Geometric changes at wheels and rails cause high cyclic loading in the dynamic system wheel/rail as a function of the course rate [1– 6]. Since for wheel steels only a few systematic investigations of the fatigue behavior are available so far, the actual investigations concentrate on the relation between the local microstructure and the description of the fatigue beh

Means of contact thermometry are widely used in various complexes of devices of weapons systems and military equipment. Such means basically involve the use of mechanical contact, in particular, bimetallic temperature transmitters, which are the most widely used thermometer variants in practice. To ensure the proper level of metrological and operational characteristics of bimetallic thermometers, reliable and adequate methods of calculating thermodynamic parameters (distributions of temperature, deformations, stresses caused by force and temperature loads) of the bimetallic package are necessa
