Abstract:
Objective: Production of a thesis during residency requires a great deal of dedication and effort. It is an honor to share the results of this effort with everyone when the thesis is published. In this study, we aimed to investigate the factors affecting the publication of a thesis in the field of urology.
Methods: Theses completed between 2014 and 2018 were searched in the Institution of Higher Education Thesis Center. Keywords, title, and authors on the thesis were searched in the PubMed and Google Scholar databases. Journal tags were categorized according to whether they are indexed in Medline or not. Publication status was analyzed with the subject of the thesis, the year of thesis was completed, hospital where urology residents graduated, and the current workplace of the urologists.
Results: Three hundred and fifty-three theses were analyzed in this study. The number of theses that were published in index journals and non-index journals was 65 (18.4) and 15 (4.2%), respectively. The median citation for published theses was 2 (0-21). The subject of the thesis, time passed after the thesis, and the current workplace of urologist was found to be statistically significant in the publication status of the theses (p<0.001, p= 0.02, p<0.001, respectively).
Conclusion: Most of the theses produced by urologists were not published. Published theses received few citations. Theses produced from animal studies and a long period passed over the thesis increase the rate of publication. Urologists whose theses have been published mostly work in tertiary care hospitals.

Abstract:
Objective: To describe the characteristics of under-graduate theses, satisfaction and reasons for choosing a topic of study. Materials and Methods: Cross-sectional study that included two populations, theses and thesis students who were able to support their work from 2015 to 2021 in the Faculty of Dentistry of the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (Lima, Peru). Documentary analysis was used at first to record bibliometric data. The survey was used in a second stage to collect information related to the reasons why the thesis students chose their topic and the degree of satisfaction. Results: A total of 269 theses were examined. The theses corresponded to more women (n=142; 52.8%). All had a quantitative approach. The cross-sectional/descriptive design was the most frequent (n=207; 77%). Of the 114 respondents, the majority of them indicated that their thesis topic decision was influenced by a faculty member outside of their advisor (n= 26; 22.8%). A total of 49.1% of thesis students were in complete agreement about what they had learned about research at the end of their thesis. Conclusions: The undergraduate theses evidenced to be developed mainly by women, most of the thesis students were satisfied with the elaboration and execution of their academic work; it was evidenced that the thesis topics are mainly influenced by a teacher different from the thesis advisor, this indicates that the advisors should be more conscious when guiding the student and influencing the thematic, methodological and writing decisions together with the advised. Abstract:
Coherence is one of the important aspects in academic writing. It affects the reader’s understanding about a text. Particularly in education, academic writing becomes the requirement for undergraduate students to claim their graduation by writing a thesis. Thesis has some important parts, one of them is a thesis abstract which delivers a brief summary about the whole thesis. Therefore, the students need to write the thesis abstract coherently to provide positive first impression and build the reader interest toward the thesis. However, many of the students are not aware to this demand. Based on the issue, this study aimed to reveal the coherence on undergraduate thesis abstract written by English Language Education Study Program students of Lambung Mangkurat University. This study applied descriptive qualitative approach. There were four abstracts from higher grade theses and four abstracts from lower grade theses analysed in this study that were selected by using purposive sampling. The analysis of coherence in this study was conducted by content analysis method based on the topical subject progressions applied in the abstracts. This study found that the coherence in the four abstracts of higher grade theses was consistent and the coherence in the four abstracts of lower grade theses was varied by the finding of two from four abstracts had failed to reach coherence. Based on the findings, it was suggested for the students to improve and build awareness in writing a coherent abstract for their thesis as a academic writing product. Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the relative merits of thesis consultation with a librarian prior to graduate submission and to explore whether thesis consultation has a significant impact on the quality of the theses submitted by postgraduate students. Design/methodology/approach This study uses a quantitative case study approach. The total number of thesis scrutiny reports written by librarians between 2009 and 2014 has been reviewed for errors found in theses. Errors have been classified as referencing errors and formatting errors. These have been compiled in a spreadsheet and analyzed using the SPSS statistical package. Findings This paper highlights that thesis consultation has had a positive impact on the quality of the theses students submitted for examination at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus. Thesis consultation with a strong focus on referencing clearly assisted students learning and applying different citation styles. There was a decrease in the number of referencing errors over time. Not much difference was seen in terms of formatting errors. Further tests showed that there was a statistically significant positive relationship between thesis consultation and the number of referencing errors made by graduate students. Practical implications This study may have implications for the engagement of academic libraries with their graduate communities. With thesis consultation, a librarian may scrutinize the same thesis more than once. Although this may increase the workload of librarians, thesis consultation/scrutiny will have a positive impact on the quality of research produced by graduate students. Originality/value This study shows that students benefited from thesis consultation and there was a significant reduction in citation errors. In reviewing the literature, it has been noted that research done in the area of thesis consultation was very limited; hence, this study significantly contributes to the body of knowledge that presently exists.

Abstract:
The aim of this study is to analysee the content of postgraduate theses on lifelong learning in Turkey between the years 2007-2022. Only the thesis studies that are in the national thesis center database and that are open to the access of other researchers by the researchers who carried out the thesis studies were included in this study. A total of 212 theses related to lifelong learning were identified in the detailed search conducted in the national thesis data center. However, one of these theses was not included in the scope of the study because there was no access permission and 7 of them were out of the field, and the remaining 204 theses were examined. Content and frequency analysis methods were used. Data on the year of publication, subject area, working group, method and findings of the examined theses were created. According to the results of the research, it was seen that the postgraduate thesis studies were mostly in the field of competence development and gaining proficiency between the years 2007-2022, the quantitative research method was mainly used, and the teachers were mostly preferred as the sample group.

Abstract:
This article presents a previously unknown thesis print which includes a depiction of the Holy Family. This thesis was produced by the Rugendases, a famous Augsburg family of engravers: in particular, we know it had been engraved by Georg Philipp Rugendas the Elder and Christian Rugendas. The article describes the Rugendas family and university theses as graphic images. The core of the contribution, however, focuses on the previously unknown thesis print no. 527 and its comparison with the Dresden thesis no. 1215, which was produced by the same engravers and likewise depicts the Holy Family. In 2022, this thesis had been added to the collection of university theses of the National Library of the Czech Republic, which is the largest compact collection of its kind in the world and as such is on the World Heritage List of the UNESCO. In the past 250 years, only eight new theses have been added to it.

Abstract:
Abstract Karl Popper's well-known refusal of induction consists of three theses which have to be distinguished clearly: the thesis of deduction, the thesis of rationality, and the thesis of use. Whereas the first thesis is correct, the second thesis is pretty questionable and the third thesis is definitely false. It will be argued that Popper himself does not adhere to the second and third thesis consequently, insofar he thinks that practical induction is legitimate whereas theoretical induction is not. Further it will be shown that Popper's presentation of David Hume's thoughts on induction is inadequate.

Abstract:
This commentary is submitted, along with my portfolio of compositions (and accompanying compact disk) in fulfillment of my PhD in composition. The purpose is to provide an accompaniment to my portfolio of compositions, to give insight into the works within it, and to discuss the scores with regard to their relevant aesthetical concerns and compositional techniques. I will also assess the works in the context of compositional practices past and present. Writing this commentary is slightly curious by its very nature: as the composer I have a deep and even emotional connection to the scores yet must try to distance myself sufficiently from them to be objective about discussing them. Despite the nature of this task I do come at it knowing exactly what my compositional intentions were at the time of writing the various works in the portfolio. It is also of interest that this research degree has been a process of personal and compositional development over a period of four years to what I have come to consider my compositional 'voice'. This development will be charted and recurring devices and the musical means which I now rely on in writing my music will be identified and examined. The discussion of works in this commentary will start with the general and gradually focus throughout the course of writing to the specific in the final chapter. In the first chapter I will discuss some of the more general aspects of my compositions and look at principal compositional concerns, seeking to illuminate and examine the sources from where I take my inspiration (both musical and extra-musical). In this chapter I will also assess my work in terms of its cultural context. The second chapter will look at a variety of compositional techniques and devices I use in my work (with reference to specific examples) and will put them into a context according to the canon of twentieth and twenty-first century acoustic concert music. The third and final chapter will take the form of an analysis of the three works at the core of the portfolio of compositions in this submission: Blodeugerdd for baritone voice and piano, Cromlech: Viola Sonata for viola and piano and Meddylun for orchestra. These pieces, whilst apparently very different in their natures represent the core of the submission in a variety of ways. They cover the time span of this project in its entirety: Blodeugerdd is the earliest work in the portfolio and Meddylun was one of the last completed scores. Additionally they demonstrate my ability to compose in two of the facets required by the PhD (to write for large instrumental forces and to work in large time scales). Whilst there is no long orchestral work in my portfolio the chamber works Blodeugerdd and Cromlech: Viola Sonata deal in large time scales and the eight minute orchestral concert overture Meddylun is a detail-packed score for large forces. Through applying the sort of techniques I used in writing Meddylun and dealing with a large ensemble to the sort of large time scale approach used in Blodeugerdd or Cromlech: Viola Sonata I should be able to write a long orchestral work in the future. I am hugely grateful to have been able to complete this project which allowed me four years of relatively uninterrupted composing time and permitted me to mature both in terms of my music and compositional abilities and in a more personal way. There are a variety of people whose help throughout the course of my PhD I would like to acknowledge: Firstly my supervisor Professor Anthony Powers whose advice and constructive criticisms have been invaluable to me. Other members of staff too, must be mentioned for their support, encouragement and guidance: perhaps most that of Dr. Richard Elfyn Jones and Dr. Arlene Elizabeth Sierra, although I am of course hugely grateful and indebted to the entire faculty of Cardiff University Music School. My peer group of research students also require a mention for their support, encouragement and friendship. Also a number of performers must be thanked: most notably baritone Jeremy Huw Williams who generously allowed me to write him what evolved into my first professional engagement Blodeugerdd (included in this submission) and performed the work on more than one occasion. Following Williams a variety of performers and ensembles commissioned me to write them pieces and this has lead to the many of the works in this portfolio receiving professional performances. I must also thank festival directors John Metcalf, Peter Reynolds, David Campbell and Guto Pryderi Puw for including my work in their events.

With the increase and popularity of the use of internet, hate speech has reached wider dimensions in societies. This thesis will provide empirical examples to show the relation between speech and actions. This paper will use speech-act theory and social movement theory to portray the relation between hate speech on social media and domestic terrorism inspired by far right extremist. Even though, there has been a lot of work for counter terrorism, domestic terrorism is still overlooked. Empirical sources say that domestic terrorism poses a threat as much as international terrorism. This thesis will bring light over the connections of hate speech and domestic terrorism inspired by far right extremists. It will conclude that there is an evident relation that hate speech on social media is contributing to domestic terrorism actions encouraged by far right extremism.

Abstract:
Web page loading time is one of the critical challenges on the Internet. Thistopic attracts more researchers as it largely reflects the user satisfaction.A web page resources typically consists of Hyper Text Markup Language(HTML), Cascading Style-Sheet (CSS), JavaScript (JS), media files, etc.As the complexity of the web page increases, the size of files fetched fromserver also increases which causes delay in transmitting, loading, parsing andrendering the web page. The web page is not rendered until HTML, CSS and JS files are loadedand parsed. Not all such files are needed to be rendered for the first page.Optimizing and loading only critical les required for the first page, can considerablyreduce time taken to load the web page. After the first page isrendered, the rest of the files can be loaded and executed. In this thesis,we focus on improving the time taken for First Meaningful Paint(FMP) ofwebsite by loading the critical files initially. We used Design Science Research(DSR) methodology and created a PhantomJS application, to identifyand segregate used and unused CSS for the first meaningful paint of the webpage. We also analyzed script files to load only critical files required forFMP and the rest later. We evaluated our experiment by studying a case onAxis Communications AB and measured its website's performance to find ifour experiment reduced FMP time. It showed improvement in time takenfor FMP from 1284ms to 372.6ms. Based on the results, we suggest to webdevelopers to separate and load the files required for FMP and load the restof the files needed for the website later, so that the first page is renderedquickly.

I had performed a recital of my compositions on April 22, 2016. This thesis is a portfolio of all of my compositions, including the program from my recital, program notes for each piece, and all scores. My senior recital consisted of two distinct halves. The first half was an exploration of abstract, theoretical, and experimental concepts in Western Art Music. The second half was an exploration in synthesizing the Carnatic music system with Western Art Music styles. This half was also an experiment in reversing musical orientalism, which has been historically prevalent in Western Art Music.

Cass, Philip. Thesis review: Tongan Women Talking About Their Lives by Sandra Kailahi. Unitec ePress, 2018. http://dx.doi.org/10.34074/thes.revw12018.

Full text
Abstract:
Sandra Kailahi’s thesis, Tongan Women Talking About Their Lives, explores Tongan women in Auckland fulfilling leadership roles. About 60,000 Tongans live in New Zealand, the third largest group coming from the Pacific islands but, in keeping with a general trend in New Zealand, very few Tongan women hold leadership roles; although there are some notable exceptions. Kailahi, herself a noted journalist and recognised figure in the Pasifika community, focuses on two main points: what leadership means to these women, and how gender and culture affects their leadership roles.
