Full textWith a growing number of consumers utilizing the Internet, companies have foreseen a consumer demand for high-speed wireless access. Since current mobile cellular systems can transfer at most 115.2 kbps per user, a third generation of mobile cellular service has been under development by various organizations since 1997. This new generation of technology will support data rates up to 2 Mbps for stationary mobiles and up to 144 kbps for vehicular traffic. This thesis focuses mainly on TD-SCDMA, one of many candidates submitted to the International Telecommunications Union for third generation review. The standard, developed in China by the Chinese Academy of Telecommunications Technology, employs both code-division multiple access and time-division duplexing to support both forward and reverse transmissions on one physical layer. This aspect, along with other common features of TD-SCDMA, will be studied and evaluated to determine if this new technology is a viable option for future commercial or military deployment.

Full textThe recent growth in traffic loads in cellular networks has seen the need for a better use of system resources as its expansion is expensive. In the base transceiver station (BTS), the bandwidth availability is limited. Thus, in cellular networks the call admission control greatly influences the system performance because it determines the bandwidth use of the BTSs and if an amount of resources will or will not be allocated to a call. The network performance can be evaluated by parameters such as blocking probability of new calls, dropping probability of handoff calls and bandwidth use. This work proposes a call admission control that carries out the bandwidth borrowing when a call arrives and there is not enough bandwidth. The system makes use of a heuristic mechanism that determines the available bandwidth for the new calls according to some parameter values of the system. The bandwidth borrowing is applied to the cell ongoing calls until the minimum levels for each type are met. The algorithm was applied to the bandwidths and characteristics of a third generation cellular network, which supports voice calls, videoconference, multimedia interaction, e-mails, downloads and file transfers. It was also applied to a GSM/GPRS (global system for mobile communications/ general packet radio service), which supports voice and data calls. The results show improvements in the blocking probability of new calls, dropping probability of handoff calls and in the bandwidth use of the system.

Full textRadio frequency identification (RFID) is a versatile wireless technology usedworldwide. The fields of applications are many and its popularity constantlygrows due to smaller in size, better and less expensive components. RFID isused to identify, track or share information about an object using radio waves.
This master thesis describes the process of designing and implementing ahandheld UHF RFID reader. The goal was to, based on a UHF RFID-chipdesign a fully functional, small in size and power efficient device. Amicrocontroller provides the user interface and is also used to control theRFID-chip and a Bluetooth device. A Bluetooth- and GPRS-compatible mobilephone will be used to forward data to a server connected to the Internet. Allparts of the design are described, such as the printed circuit board design aswell as the software for the micro controller and the mobile phone.
Because the extent of this thesis it is neither possible nor necessary to dig toodeep into the Bluetooth- or GPRS-protocol. The focus will be on designingsoftware and hardware for the handheld unit.

Det här examensarbetet beskriver processen av design och implementering aven handburen UHF RFID läsare. Målet har varit att, baserat på ett UHF-RFIDchip, designa en fullt fungerande, liten och strömsnål enhet. En microcontroller förser dels användaren med ett användargränssnitt och sköter delskommunikationen med RFID chip och en blåtandsmodul. En blåtands- ochGPRS- eller 3G-kompatibel mobiltelefon används for att skicka vidare data tillen server kopplad till Internet. Alla delar av designen är beskrivna, så som PCB design, mjukvara för micro controllern och mobiltelefonen.
På grund av omfattningen av det här examensarbetet så har det inte varitmöjligt eller nödvändigt att gräva för djupt i Blåtands- eller GPRS/3Gprotokollen. Fokus är på att designa hårdvara och mjukvara för den handhållna enheten.

Full textThis study proposes a mathematical optimisation approach which invokes Genetic Algorithm (GA) for initialisation and application of Tabu Search (TS) algorithm in finding the sites of node Bs in the network to enable it have the potential to support an increased number of users requiring the increased number of services. The global optimisation can be obtained in terms of great probability as GA is applied to global search and TS is applied to the local search. The particular memory ability of TS can be integrated to GA and the prematurity of GA can be avoided by virtue of the hill-climbing ability of TS. The problem to be addressed is the determination of optimal locations of node Bs in the network based on the user distribution, while improving the QoS. The proposed approach considers the site selection as an integer problem and the site placement as a continuous problem. The two problems are focused on concurrently - finding the optimal number of node Bs that satisfies the capacity requirements in the network and hence QoS improvement. The proposed algorithm combines the strength of Genetic and Tabu Search algorithms in successive elimination of node Bs after their random distribution in the area of study. The results showed that the proposed approach produced fewer number of node Bs sites in the network that provided the required QoS. In addition, it exhibited high fitness function in the simulations meaning that it has the higher ability of achieving the objective function when it was compared to TS and GA.

Abstract In the twenty-one century, the focus of information technology had moved to information communication technology. The third generation(3G) communication system offer higher-speed data transmission and various service, like voice, data, and video-phone, but the 3G users is not popular. To understand the adoptive factor of consumers, this study reviewed literatures and formed the three level adoptive factors of for 3G users and find out the weight of each adoptive factor by Fuzzy AHP from service provider’s and consumers perspective. Finally, results of this study indicates that they pay more attention on security, private and quality of telecommunications. This results can then provide to 3G service providers for their reference daft their promoted strategies so as to enlarge number of consumers.

This thesis introduces the measure technique and signal anaysis of the third generation mobile phone base station and, thoroughly, explains the required instruments during measuring and the proposed analysis method. Some currently used measurement and analysis methods for the base station environment are also listed and explained. The measurements include: (1) RSCP: Received Signal Code Power, (2) Ec/Io: the ratio of received signal to nearby interference. The measured data of the field test were mapping to the road map to make the comparison between the before and after ON-AIR conditions to show the changing of the electromagnetic field coverage of the base station and also to verify the validity of measurement techique.

The Taiwan second generation (2G) mobile market had reached peak in 2003 with total subscribers 25.8 millions. It had moved into decline stage in 2004 and 2005. It is important for 2G operators to use low growth but high market penetration “Cash cow” (2G wireless system) to create competitive advantages for high growth, low market penetration 3G wireless system, and make it become a “Star” industry with high market penetration.This thesis will discuss the diffusion of 3G wireless services and the behavior of potential comsumers in Taiwan. First, the potential comsumers of 3G wireless services in Taiwan are defined as 2G and PHS mobile users. Second, we did market analysis on Taiwan,Europe mobile market and studied the theories of innovation adoption, diffusion, network effect, bandwagon processes, and consumer behavior. Finally, we used“Howard-Sheth buyer behavior model”to create a market research survey. In this survey, we used random digit dialing to collect data, then used Cross-table, Chi-squared test and Pearson methods to analyze data and investigate why a potential customer does not switch from 2G to 3G in Taiwan. Motives for 3G wireless services potential consumers to increase patronage intentions include (1) more reasonable price of mobile handset (2) lower monthly fee package (3) colleagues, relatives and friends have chose 3G wireless services. The most popular value-added services for those potential comsumers include (1)video phone (2)MP3 mobile music download (3)streaming and broadband mobile internet. Findings of this study may provide 3G operators with marketing advices.

Taiwan telecom market was opened in 1997, and then the telecom market changed from monopoly to relatively open market. Only after five years, the cellular phone subscribers have an incredible growth. According to ITU (International Telecommunication Union) statistic report in 2002, ie The popularity rate of cellular phone in Taiwan was 111%, It’s the No. 1 in the world. And from another words, the cellular phone market was full over. But, the government still follow the globe trend of telecom industry, to sale the 3G license in 2002. There are total 5 licenses, and 3 of 5 are 2G operator, and the other two (APBW & Vibo) are new operators. For there two new operator, how to compete with the 2G operators ? The market strategy is very important in this moment. This paper will base on local environment to study the market of telecom industry especially telecom operator, certainly including the value chain vendors such as handset manufactures and content providers. The paper is not only study the telecom industry development and market current situations, but also use the SWOT analysis tool to draw up the market strategy. So that it can provide more efficient advice to the new operator.

This study was an exploratory case study analyzing the competitive and mobile digital content of Taiwan’s mobile telecommunication industry. The five research objectives were: (1) the business competitive analysis; (2) the industry competitive analysis of the 3G mobile telecommunication industry; (3) analyze Taiwan’s competitive analysis among global 3G telecommunications; (4) the development of 3G’s mobile digital content provider; and (5) analyze consumer’s use of digital mobile content. The theoretical framework for competitive analysis was based on SWOT, Michael Porter’s five forces and diamond model. The results and case study data analysis were based on various evidences from in-depth interviews, document/secondary data analysis, and web survey. Results and suggestions found that (1) global challenges in introducing 3G; (2) challenges of attracting new 3G consumers in the initial stage of introduction; (3)consumer still played a vital role in the use and widespread of 3G mobile telecommunications; (4) easy user-friendly usage can help reduce consumer’s technological anxiety; (5) provide consumer with multiple functions and 3G killer’s applications; (6) the responsibility of educating consumers by service provider will help the development of mobile digital content; (7) successful marketing is crucial to the development and competitiveness of 3G telecommunications market. The exploratory case study provided suggestions for the industry and provided directions for future research.

ChungHwa Telecom is the outstanding industry in the 3G marketing fighting, which carries the country and the privately operated superiority, since the 2G telecommunication, the 825 million users has been the Taiwan main item telecommunication industry. According to the “cell phone king” report(2005/9/26), ChungHwa Telecom the first begins the 3G services at the end of July, 2005, until September, the user numbers break through 8 ten thousand, equally every day increases 5,000 ~ 6,000 3G new users. Water is one of the most important resources in the world; however, water pollution is increasingly serious and damages the balance of the food chain. The ever-changing technology of nowadays not only makes life infinite convenience, but also industrial wastewater pollution. In general, the concentration area of the wastewater discharge locates in sparsely populated place. To set up the analytical instruments in this kind of area, it is impossible to transfer the analytical data back to the Environmental Protection Center. This study focuses on using the PLC of industrial communication protocol Modbus PLC as a data collector. The role of the on-site water quality analyzer is data simulator and the data collector receives data from the simulator. Furthermore, using the cellular network technology of the current 3G mobile communications technology transfers the collected data back to the environmental Protection Center. To set up the analyzer of the water quality in the waste water quality concentration area, samples are collected in 24-hour timer mode, and collect and return, is a fail-safe monitoring. Meanwhile, this can not only enhance the credibility of industrial wastewater analysis and efficiency, but also reduce the problem of industrial waste water pollution by giving the result of the reaction to the environmental protection agencies immediately. On the other hand, we can also ask the factory to improve the issue of industrial wastewater pollution over the limit or even do the evaluation of the possibility for reclamation and recycling.
