Abstract:
In this thesis, the properties of the Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) in low dimensions are reviewed. Three dimensional weakly interacting Bose systems are examined by the variational method. The effects of both the attractive and the repulsive interatomic forces are studied. Thomas-Fermi approximation is applied to find the ground state energy and the chemical potential. The occurrence of the BEC in low dimensional systems, is studied for ideal gases confined by both harmonic and power-law potentials. The properties of BEC in highly anisotropic trap are investigated and the conditions for reduced dimensionality are derived.

Abstract:

Following the Thom tranversality theorem and the singularity theory we find an open and dense subset of this equation class that present only good singularity. This singularity are of six kind well folded saddle, well folded node, well folded focus, elliptical gather, hyperbolic gather. Davydov,in [8] showed the normal forms of a IDE in the case of well folded saddle, well folded node, well folded focus. In the case of gathered singularities, Davydov showed that the normal forms of IDE contains functional moduli. For a special class of implicit differential equation, the binary differential equation (BDE), we study the normal forms in the case in that the discriminant is a Morse function.<br>Neste trabalho estudamos singularidades de equações diferenciais implícitas.

Abstract:
The behaviour of electrons in nanostructures such as quantum wells is of interest for the design of new electronic and electro-optic devices, and also for exploration of basic many-body physics. This thesis develops and tests improved methods for describing such electronic behaviour. The system used for this work was the parabolic quantum well (PQW), an important special system which has recently attracted much experimental and theoretical attention. We firstly report self-consistent nonlinear groundstate solutions of the Poisson equation together with the Thomas-Fermi (TF) hydrostatic equations. In contrast to most previous solutions, all the electron density profiles were inhomogeneous and continuous. We also added a von Weizsacker term with and without the exchange/exchange-correlation to the above treatment, using a novel numerical approach allowing for wider electron gases than previously possible. We also report for the first time the effects of spatially varying effective mass and dielectric function in theories of this type. To investigate infrared response of these systems, we apply new hydrodynamic theories recently proposed by Dobson. By using this type of theory, we simultaneously satisfy the Harmonic Potential Theorem (extended generalized Kohn theorem) and obtain the correct 2D plasmon dispersion, as well as obtaining the correct spacing of standing plasmons. Other inhomogeneous hydrodynamic theories do not achieve this. We also showed analytically an exact solution for a plasmon mode at the Kohn frequency in addition to one found in the Harmonic Potential Theorem. An open hydrodynamic theory was then developed based on this type of mode. Numerical application of Kohn Frequency Theorem theory was shown and the results were compared with other existing hydrodynamic theories.

Abstract:
碩士<br>國立臺灣大學<br>物理研究所<br>99<br>The classical Hamiltonian of a point charged particle with intrinsic spin, which is composed of the relativistic orbit Hamiltonian and the spin Hamiltonian. This spin Hamiltonian can be derived from the Thomas-Bargmann-Michel-Telegdi equation. In our thesis, we will prove that the classical Hamiltonian in which the gyromagnetic ratio equals 2 is in agreement with the low-energy limit of the Dirac equation, the relativistic quantum theory for a spin-1/2 charged particle. For this purpose, we apply the Foldy-Wouthuysen transformation to the Dirac Hamiltonian under the assumptions of the static and homogeneous electromagnetic fields. Furthermore, in order to maintain such a correspondence in arbitrary gyromagnetic ratio cases, we perform the F-W transformation to the Dirac-Pauli Hamiltonian, which is the Dirac Hamiltonian plus the anomalous magnetic dipole moment Hamiltonian. Up to the twelfth-order of F-W transformed Dirac and Dirac-Pauli Hamiltonian, the calculation results are in accord with the corresponding classical Hamiltonians.

Abstract:
Stationary, spatially inhomogenous solutions of reaction-diffusion systems are studied in this thesis. These systems appears in biological models based on a Tu- ring's idea of a diffusion driven instability. In the connection, a global behaviour of bifurcation branches of these stationary solutions is analyzed. The thesis in- sists on theory of differential equations and on (particularly topological) methods of nonlinear analysis. The existence, as well as non-compatness in one-dimensional space, of a bifurcation branch of general reaction-diffusion system leading to Tu- ring's efekt is proved. Further, a priori estimates of Thomas model are derived. The results tend to theorem, that forall diffusion coefficient from the preestab- lished set there exists at least one stacionary, spacially nontrivial solution of Tho- mas model.
