This article focuses on the Mexican play, eXtras, Sabina Berman's translation and adaptation of the Irish hit play Stones in His Pockets by Marie Jones. Linda Hutcheon, Thomas Leitch, and other contributors to adaptation studies shed light on the process used by Berman to tradapt and glocalize Stones in His Pockets for the Mexican stage, where the combined forces of Hollywood and globalization have likewise ravaged the local economy and where Jones' tragicomic story of exploitation and anonymization played every bit as well as it did in Ireland.

Abstract In spite of the noticeable practices within the field of Adaptation, Adaptation theory seems to be lagging behind whilst perpetuating various fallacies. Geoffrey Wagner’s types of Adaptation and Kamilla Elliott’s proposed concepts for examining adaptations have proved useful but due to their general applicability they seem to perpetuate the fallacies existing within the field of Adaptation. This article will propose a context-specific concept pertaining to Media Franchise Culture for the purpose of examining Adaptations and re-assessing long-held debates concerning the Original, the Content/Form debate and Fidelity issues that cater to the twelve fallacies discussed by Thomas Leitch.

Abstract:
Abstract Each episode of Noah Hawley’s first two seasons of Fargo begins with the same claim: “this is a true story.” The claim might invite the formation of what Thomas Leitch (2007) calls a “privileged master text,” except that Hawley undermines the creation of such a text in at least two ways. On the one hand, Hawley uses his truth claim as a way to direct his audience into the film he is adapting – Joel and Ethan Coen’s (1996) film by the same name. Hawley ensures throughout his first season that those who know or who come-to-know the Coens’ work will recognize his story as an extension of the Coens’s world. Hawley references the Coens’ world so much that his audience is never entirely outside the Coens’ universe, and certainly not in any world a story based on a true event might pretend to occupy. At the same time, Hawley allows different speakers to make the opening truth claim by the end of his second season, which further prevents his truth assertion from locating viewers in any actual world. Hawley’s second move reveals that true stories are always subjective stories, which means they are always constructed stories. In this way, a true story is no more definitive than any other story. All stories are, in keeping with Jorge Luis Borges’ attitude toward definitive texts, only a draft or a version of a story. Every telling invites another, alternative retelling. A true story is, therefore, above all a story.

Abstract:
The purpose of this essay is to study two film adaptations of the original Planet of the Apes novel and see what kind of relationship the two adaptations have with each other. The main question is if the secondary film adaptation is restricted by the primary and if the relationships between these two are as two separate adaptations or as a remake of an adaptation. What the results of the study show is that the secondary adaptation can not be seen as a remake even though it gets some of its inspiration from both the original story as well as the primary adaptation. The secondary adaptation is, however, restricted in what it can adapt due to the primary adaptation having the first pick, at least if the secondary adaptation wishes to be a whole new adaptation and not a remake of the primary. The study shows also that the fidelity in the secondary adaptation is not necessarily to either the original or the primary but to the knowledge the audience has about the Planet of the Apes universe which they have gathered from all of the important versions of the story. The essay also states that there is yet much to learn about the relationship between secondary and primary film adaptations which means that the field is still in need of exploration.

Abstract:
A adsorção de microcistina por colunas de CAG se mostrou eficiente para remoção do poluente do meio líquido, em especial com a utilização do CAG-Linhito.<br>One of the main concerns about the increasing occurrence of cyanobacteria in aquatic systems is related to the ability of some species to produce and release toxins, including microcystins, which may affect human health. The conventional water treatment process is often insufficient to remove the toxin dissolved in the water. Among the technologies that can be used to remove microcystins are granular activated carbon (GAC) filters. This research focused on knowledge enhancement about the performance of GAC columns when operated to remove microcystin from supply water. The study water was composed of artesian well water contaminated by microcystin (MC) extract, producing solutions with initial concentrations of MC-LR that varied between 14 &#181;g / L and 92 &#181;g / L. In adsorption tests on fixed bed columns, under continuos regime, three types of GAC were evaluated, from different sources, being one vegetal (GAC-Ccoco) and two minerals (GAC-Hulha and GAC-Linhito). From the breakthrough curves, the microcystin removals and the adsorption capacity of this pollutant by activated carbons were evaluated. By adjusting mathematical models (Bohart-Adams, Thomas and Yoon-Nelson) to the breakthrough curves, it was possible to obtain information about the adsorption capacity of the GAC. The results showed that GAC-Linhito had better adsorption capacity (164 &#181;g/g), followed by GAC-Ccoco (79 &#181;g/g) and, finally, GAC-Hulha (62 &#181;g/g). The highest adsorption capacity of GAC-Linhito was attributed to the higher volume of mesopores (0.53 cm³/g) present in its structure (GAC-Ccoco = 0.05 cm³/g GAC-Coal = 0.06 cm³/g). The adsorption of microcystin by GAC columns proved to be efficient for removal of the pollutant from the liquid medium, especially with the use of GAC-Linhito.

Abstract:
Whereas democracy still seemed to be triumphantly sweeping the world before the turn of the century, today it finds itself under immense pressure, not only as a viable political system, but also as a theoretical and normative concept. The coronavirus crisis has underlined and accelerated these developments. There are manifold reasons for this, above all the fundamental changes the state and society have undergone in the face of globalisation, digitalisation, migration, climate change and not least the current pandemic, to name the most significant of them. This volume analyses the changes to democracy in the 21st century and the crises it has experienced. In doing so, the book identifies where action is needed, on the one hand, and investigates appropriate, up-to-date reforms and the prospects for politics, political communication and political education, on the other. Abstract:

Abstract:
Dibdin’s younger son Thomas’ work as a dramatist reveals both change and continuity in expectations of dramatic authorship and theatrical practice in the early nineteenth century. This chapter explores the collaborative nature of Dibdin’s writing: his scripts were not finished literary texts, but raw materials designed to be fully realized only in performance, as celebrated actors brought their own contributions to their roles. While the results were immensely popular with audiences, these methods came under increasing fire from critics such as Leigh Hunt, who damned Dibdin for failing to live up to their new, literary expectations of dramatic authorship and the sovereignty of the author’s text. The gathering forces of specialization and the privileging of the author as twin hallmarks of legitimate cultural authority were beginning to create new hierarchies of theatrical production, genres, and styles, highlighting the contrasts between the era of Charles Dibdin the Elder and that of his sons.

This book is the first anthology of perspectives on the future of text, one of our most important mediums for thinking and communicating, with a Foreword by the co-inventor of the Internet, Vint. Cerf and a Postscript by the founder of the modern Library of Alexandria, Ismail Serageldin. In a time with astounding developments in computer special effects in movies and the emergence of powerful AI, text has developed little beyond spellcheck and blue links. In this work we look at myriads of perspectives to inspire a rich future of text through contributions from academia, the arts, business and technology. Abstract:

Abstract:
This chapter introduces the topic of the history of the early modern Reformed doctrine of the covenant of works. It first defines the doctrine and then provides a state of the question through a survey of relevant secondary literature. After the state of the question, the chapter states the book’s main aim, which is to present an overview of the origins, development, and reception of the covenant of works. In contrast to critics of the doctrine, this book stands within another strand of historiography that sees the covenant of works as a legitimate development of ideas present in the early church, middle ages, and Reformation periods. The chapter then lays out the topics of each of following chapters: the Reformation, Robert Rollock, Jacob Arminius, James Ussher, John Cameron and Edward Leigh, The Westminster Standards, the Formula Consensus Helvetica, Thomas Boston, and the Twentieth Century.
