Thomson's atom is a solid ball or billiard ball with a positive charge that contains several negatively charged particles or electrons. These electrons will be spread on the ball like raisins on bread. The main difference between Thomson's and Rutherford's atomic models is that Thomson's model does not contain information about the atomic nucleus, while Rutherford's model does. The theory of atomic structure helps scientists understand why elements behave in certain ways in chemical reactions. For example, electron configuration determines how elements bond and form compounds. In this paper, a

Abstract: Bearings with rolling elements are a typical part of rotating machinery. Vibration analysis is one of them that is frequently used to gauge the general wellbeing and condition of rotating machinery. Finding bearing defects is important in the pursuit of extremely reliable operations. The main relationship between vibration signal-based features and measured signals is that they can be used in order to assess the condition of a bearing. The orbit of a charged particle in a uniform and constant magnetic field is a circle when the initial velocity of the particle is perpendicular to the magnetic field. The radius of the orbit depends on the charge to mass ratio of the particle, q/m, the speed of the particle v, and the strength of the magnetic field B. When the strength of the magnetic field and the initial speed of the particle are known, a measurement of a radius of the orbit determines q/m. This principle was used by J.J. Abstract:
The study of pulsed laser- and microwave-induced plasma interactions with atmospheric and higher pressure combusting gases requires rapid diagnostic methods that are capable of determining the mechanisms by which these interactions are taking place. New rapid diagnostics are presented here extending the capabilities of Rayleigh and Thomson scattering and resonance-enhanced multi-photon ionization (REMPI) detection and introducing femtosecond laser-induced velocity and temperature profile imaging. Spectrally filtered Rayleigh scattering provides a method for the planar imaging of temperature fi

The aim of this work is to study the possible effects and biases on the radius constraints for rotation-powered millisecond pulsars when using Thomson approximation to describe electron scattering in the atmosphere models, instead of using exact formulation for Compton scattering. We compare the differences between the two models in the energy spectrum and angular distribution of the emitted radiation. We also analyse a self-generated, synthetic, phase-resolved energy spectrum, based on Compton atmosphere and the most X-ray luminous, rotation-powered millisecond pulsars observed by the Neutron

The paper deals with the study of dominant frequencies of an Impact-Echo method response signal obtained from a reinforced concrete beam with a steel rod diameter of 8 mm. Tension pulse was produced in axis of the rod at one end and detected in axis at opposite end of rod. Dominant frequencies of the response signal will be the main criterions for the reinforced concrete rebar corrosion progress. The article presents the results of measurements obtained after 12 months controlled degradation in aqueous NaCl solution. The results were compared with measurements of electrical resistance of reinf

The results of measuring the electron temperature and density spatial distributions in plasma of the Globus-M2 tokamak using the Thomson scattering diagnostics are presented. The diagnostics provides measurements throughout the entire tokamak discharge, starting from time of gas breakdown. The Thomson scattering data were analyzed in order to determine the positions of the last closed flux surface, the plasma magnetic axis, and the radius of inversion during the saw-tooth oscillations. The results of measurements performed during the internal reconnection of magnetic field lines are presents,

The effects of finite bandwidth and random-phase pumping on parametric instabilities have been studied extensively (Thomson & Karush 1974; Thomson 1975; Laval et al. 1977). The possibilities arising from the use of this method and a time delay to obtain a spatial incoherence uniform illumination have been proven in experiments (Lehmberg & Obenschain 1983; Mima & Kato 1982; Kato & Mima 1982; Richardson 1981). In this paper we investigate this subject in an alternative way and obtain some results on the influence of the gain profile on parametric instabilities.

AbstractThe equation of transfer in Thomson scattering atmospheres with magnetic fields is solved using Monte Carlo methods. Two cases, a plane parallel atmosphere with a magnetic field perpendicular to the atmosphere, and a dipole star, are investigated. The wavelength dependence of polarization from a plane-parallel atmosphere is qualitatively similar to that observed in the magnetic white dwarf Grw+70°8247, and the field strength determined by the calculation, 3.2×l08 G, is quantitatively similar to that determined from the line spectrum. The dipole model does not resemble the data as well
