Archery performance has been shown to be dependent on the resonance frequencies and operational deflection shape of the arrows. This vibrational behaviour is influenced by the design and material of the arrow and the presence of damage in the arrow structure. In recent years arrow design has progressed to use lightweight and stiff composite materials. This paper investigates the vibration of composite archery arrows through a finite difference model based on Euler–Bernoulli theory, and a three-dimensional finite element modal analysis. The present experiment investigates the ability of eyes and arrows to cue an upcoming target when both cues are present at the same time. AbstractWe introduce the arrow calculus, a metalanguage for manipulating Hughes's arrows with close relations both to Moggi's metalanguage for monads and to Paterson's arrow notation. Arrows are classically defined by extending lambda calculus with three constructs satisfying nine (somewhat idiosyncratic) laws; in contrast, the arrow calculus adds four constructs satisfying five laws (which fit two well-known patterns). The five laws were previously known to be sound; we show that they are also complete, and hence that the five laws may replace the nine.

In this paper it is given an interesting overview about the concept of time. Starting by the three historically identified arrows of time, we consider the perception of time in relation to philosophy and psychology, then focusing about charming results of modern high energy physics and thermodynamics, which make the study of time and space one of the most fascinating challenges of contemporary knowledge.

In vivo the red blood cell reversibly and rapidly deforms as it passes through the small capillaries. Although the physiochemical basis of the red cell's deformability is unknown, it is regarded as being a property of the membrane protein spectrin. We have used cryoelectron microscopy to study the structure of spectrin in membrane skeletons to determine how its molecular structure confers elastic properties on the cell membrane. Cryomicroscopy has the virtue of minimally perturbing easily deformable structures such as spectrin.Figure 1 is an electron micrograph of a portion of a frozen-hydrate

The sources for their titles—Erotian, Galen, an eleventh-century Arabic MS and the twelfth-century MS Vat.graec.276–disagree on minor points, but it is clear that they are all referring to the same works.

Inequalities in expectations to receive care permeate social structures, reinforcing racialized and gendered hierarchies. Harming the people who are overburdened and disadvantaged as caregivers, these inequalities also shape the subjectivities and corporeal habits of the class of people who expect to receive care from others. With three examples, I illustrate a series of justificatory asymmetries across gender and racial lines that illustrate (a) asymmetries in deference and attendance to the needs of others as well as (b) assertions of the rightful occupation of space. Thus, Texas A&M Transportation Institute researchers conducted a night-time closed-course study to assess the conspicuity of select signing and pavement marking wrong-way driving countermeasures from the perspective of alcohol-impaired drivers. Lowering the sign height, making the sign larger (i.e., oversized), adding red retroreflective material to the sign support, or adding flashing red light-emitting diodes around the border of the sign did not improve the ability of the alcohol-impaired drive

The swords differ in the blade width, the design of the transition space between the guard and the blade, and the shape of the bar-shaped pommel. Spearheads could be found in all the burials. The idea is argued that the Abe government proposed a program known as the “Three Arrows of Abenomics”, the implementation of which helped Japan get out of deflation, but the economic growth potential remained extremely low. This economic policy was unique in that the whole range of its measures was adapted to the specifics of the Japanese economy or Japanization. Aiming at an alternative compactification for the moduli space of instanton sheaves, we show that for each rank 2 instanton sheaf, there is a stability parameter θ for which the corresponding quiver representation is θ-stable (in the sense of King), and that the space of stability parameters has a non-trivial wall-and-chamber decomposition. Fidelity mechanics is formalized as a framework for investigating critical phenomena in quantum many-body systems. Fidelity temperature is introduced for quantifying quantum fluctuations, which, together with fidelity entropy and fidelity internal energy, constitute three basic state functions in fidelity mechanics, thus enabling us to formulate analogues of the four thermodynamic laws and Landauer’s principle at zero temperature. Fidelity flows, which are irreversible, are defined and may be interpreted as an alternative form of renormalization group flows. Thus, fidelity mechanics offers a m
