Background: The general counter-roller flow-forming (CRFF) process rarely considers the roller’s offset position for the symmetric rollers. However, the rollers’ offset position can regulate the tube shape, force, and other features. Studying the novel asymmetric CRFF process, which is the CRFF process with the rollers’ offset position, is essential. Methods: The influence of the rollers’ offset position, the tube blank thickness, thickness reduction on the material deformation, flow-forming force, final tube middle radius, and thickness in the CRFF process are studied using AA5052 aluminum tu

Moreover, the rigid casting rollers in this model are replaced by elastic casting rollers in order to improve the calculation accuracy. The sun roller is hollow, and is connected through three segments of logarithmic spiral profile to the input shaft. As the input shaft rotates relative to the sun roller, a wedging action takes place between the input shaft and the sun roller; this makes the sun roller produce a certain amount of radial displacement, so an appreciable amount of normal load is thus generated between the rollers of the planetary traction-drive dev

Abstract:
An experimental technique called Continuous-Bending-Under-Tension (CBT) can produce elongations over two times that of a standard tensile test by preventing the necking instability from occurring. This is achieved by superposing plastic bending on tension along the gage length of the material using three rollers. The specimen is kept under tension as the rollers apply the three point bending and cyclically transverse along the gage length. This localizes the plastic deformation by subjecting the specimen to bending-under-tension. Details on the design of the unique CBT machine and some prelimi

Abstract:
We have developed a three-dimensional dynamic simulation tool for tapered roller bearings using commercially available analysis software, ADAMS (MSC. Software). Cage motion in six degrees was analyzed with the simulation tool and was measured by experiments. The results showed the validity of the simulation tool. Regarding the cage behavior, as the traction forces between rollers and races grew, the amplitude of the cage whirl motion increased up to the radial guide clearance between the roller and its cage pocket.

Abstract:
The roller swashplate bearing in hydraulic piston pumps is very unique in applications of roller element bearings. The main advantages of this type of bearings are low friction, very small difference between start torque and steady state torque, and no additional pressure source is required for their functioning. Therefore, better control performance and higher efficiency can be expected from piston pumps with roller swashplate bearings, compared with pumps with hydrostatic or plain ones. However, it is particularly challenging to design a roller swashplate bearing to meet the very demanding a

Abstract:
Nine sections of advanced high strength line pipes, Grades X70 and X80 have been evaluated during this study. Six of those pipes were Grade X70 and three were Grade X80. Four of the X70 pipes were fabricated from microalloyed steels that were controlled rolled; the other two X70 pipes were controlled rolled plus accelerated cooled. Two of the controlled-rolled X70 pipes were produced from plates from the same slab of continuously cast steel; one was fabricated by the pyramid-rolling process and the other was fabricated by the U-O-E process. Because it is accepted like a furniture not a medical devices, its use is not controlled by medical personnel like other medical devices, so there

Abstract:
The COVID-19 Winter Plan, published 23 November, relies on three factors to provide the UK with a "route back to normality": vaccines, treatments and testing. In addition to PCR testing, lateral flow devices are now being rolled out across England and Wales for the rapid testing of certain occupational groups, community testing and as an alternative to self-isolation following exposure to the virus. How well validated have these tests been? Are they accurate enough for their proposed purposes? And how have they performed to date in mass testing trials?

Contact tracing apps could be used to control the COVID-19 outbreak. Most of them work by automatically registering another smartphone when it is too close for an extended period of time. Then if a user tests positive for Coronavirus in the future, the contact tracing app notifies these contacts. Some countries like Singapore and Australia have already adopted or rolled out their own contact tracing apps. Concerns have been raised about misuse of personal data. Initial data suggests there has been slow uptake of this new technology by users, and it's unclear if contact tracing apps have had or

Structural modelling, that is the use of behavioural models to add a framework to the decision problem of an agent, is a useful yet underused tool in evaluation. This paper provides a general introduction to structural modelling, as well as an overview of other commonly used evaluation techniques in Economics and other social sciences. It then goes on to show with three key case studies, how structural models can be used to enrich the findings from randomised control trials. The COVID-19 pandemic has revealed and worsened the depth of inequality in West Africa. It has pushed millions into poverty. There is no end in sight due to the obscene global vaccine inequality, which means that less than 4% of West Africans had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as at September 2021, compared with 52% in the United States and 57% in the European Union. In 2021, when COVID-19 infections are rising in West Africa, the critical support health and socioeconomic programmes put in place by most governments in 2020 are being rolled back and replaced with austerity. There has been an increase in nonconformances from 216 nonconformances in 2017 to 229 in 2018 and by September 2019, 306 nonconformances were already logged. Increasing nonconformances result in delayed release of tested materials and many resources are wasted (e.g. chemicals, man hours and equipment). Investigations of recent firefighter line of duty deaths caused by rapid fire progression have highlighted a deficiency in firefighters’ understanding of how certain tactics affect the fire dynamics of ventilation-controlled fires. Many fires are in a ventilation-limited, decay state by the time firefighters arrive at the scene, meaning that introducing additional ventilation to the environment has the potential to cause rapid and intense fire growth. To more effectively teach firefighters about the potential effects of ventilation on a compartment fire, ventilation-controlled fires should be
