Abstract:
The current dependency on steel within modern society causes major environmental pollution, a result of the product’s life cycle phases. Unfortunately, very little data regarding single steel production processes have been found in literature. Therefore, a detailed analysis of impacts categorized in terms of relevance cannot be conducted. In this study, a complete life cycle assessment of steel production in an integrated German steel plant of thyssenkrupp Steel Europe AG, including an assessment of emissions from the blast furnace, the basic oxygen furnace, and casting rolling, is carried out. The functional unit is set to 1 kg hot-rolled coil, and the system boundaries are defined as cradle-to-gate. This study models the individual process steps and the resulting emitters using the software GaBi. Total emissions could be distributed into direct, upstream, and by-product emissions, where the biggest impacts in terms of direct emissions from single processes are from the power plant (48% global warming potential (GWP)), the blast furnace (22% GWP), and the sinter plant (79% photochemical ozone creation potential (POCP)). The summarized upstream processes have the largest share in the impact categories acidification potential (AP; 69%) and abiotic depletion potential fossil (ADPf; 110%). The results, including data verification, furthermore show the future significance of the supply chain in the necessary reduction that could be achieved.

Abstract:
The main purpose of the present dissertation is to determine the fair share price of thyssenkrupp AG and provide a buying or selling recommendation to potential investors. thyssenkrupp AG is a German multinational conglomerate not only specialized in the production of steel but also focused on manufacturing and modernizing high-valued components for the automotive, naval and construction sectors, among others. Initially, the company was divided in five different business areas: Components Technology, Elevator Technology, Industrial Solutions, Material Services and Steel Europe. However, in 2018, thyssenkrupp AG and TATA Steel signed an agreement to combine their Steel Europe businesses in a 50-50 joint venture. With the joint venture, thyssenkrupp AG will report Steel Europe as a discontinuing operation and reduce the number of business areas to four. The two chosen methodologies to perform thyssenkrup AG valuation were the DCF-WACC and the Relative Valuation Approaches. The outcome obtained from the DCF Valuation was a share price of 23.40€. Similarly, the result provided by the Relative Valuation (EV/EBITDA multiple) is extremely close to the outcome of the DCF-WACC method, totaling 23.38€ per unit of stock. Considering that, the current market price of thyssenkrupp AG is equivalent to 22.42€ per share (02-08-2018), it is possible to conclude that the market undervalues the company. Therefore, the recommendation provided by this dissertation is a buying recommendation.
O principal objetivo da presente dissertação consiste em determinar o preço por ação da thyssenkrupp AG e apresentar uma recomendação de compra ou venda a potenciais investidores. A thyssenkrupp AG é um conglomerado multinacional alemão não só especializado na produção de aço, mas também focado na produção e modernização de componentes de elevado valor acrescentado para os sectores automóvel, naval e da construção, entre outros. Inicialmente, a empresa era composta por cinco áreas de negócio distintas: Technologia de Componentes, Technologia de Elevadores, Soluções Industriais, Serviços de Materiais e por último o negócio de aço na Europa. No entanto, em 2018, a thyssenkrupp AG e a TATA Steel assinaram um acordo para fundir as suas operações siderúrgicas na Europa, na qual cada uma terá uma participação de 50%. Com a fusão, a thyssenkrupp AG irá reportar o negócio do aço na Europa como operação descontinuada e reduzir para quatro, o número de áreas de negócio. Os dois métodos escolhidos para avaliar a thyssenkrupp AG foram o DCF-WACC e a Avaliação Relativa. O resultado obtido a partir do DCF foi um preço por ação de 23.40€. Simultaneamente, o preço por ação aferido pelo método de Avaliação Relativa (múltiplo EV/EBITDA) revelou-se muito próximo do resultado obtido pelo DCF-WACC, totalizando 23.38€. Tendo em conta que o atual preço por ação no mercado da thyssenkrupp AG é equivalente a 22,42€ (02-08-2018), é possível concluir que o mercado subvaloriza a empresa. Desta forma, a recomendação apresentada é uma recomendação de compra.
