Abstract In Illinois, between 1990 and 2017, tick-borne diseases in humans increased 10-fold, yet we have insufficient information on when and where people are exposed to vector ticks (Ixodida: Ixodidae). The aims of our research were to compare contributions of passive and active tick collection methods in determining establishment of ticks of public health concern and obtain information on tick distributions within Illinois. We used three surveillance strategies within the Illinois Tick Inventory Collaboration Network to gather information about the ticks of public health concern: 1) passive

Interpretations of tick collection records have largely assumed that off-host collection records offer a valid basis from which to make claims about the host specificity or generality of tick species. Previous literature has investigated if mobile applications unregulated by the United States, such as Tik-Tok, can have a detrimental impact regarding the vulnerability of personal identifiable information of their daily users and are therefore worthy of banned designation for consumer use in the United States. The research conducted in these findings aimed to assess the benefits and downsides of user-permitted data collection from mobile applications such as Tik-Tok including whether Tik-Tok indeed poses a serious national security threat due to its potential exploitation from foreign governments, therefore warranting government escalation from being closely monitored to banned status. This chapter's research also consisted of analyzing emerging trends in the mitigation of data security of consumer devices industry in the instances of cloud computing, 5G implementation in home automation, and mobile applications privacy. The development of innovative technologies has reduced manual and labour intensive operations, however, in many instances this has simultaneously increased the cognitive load placed on decision makers due to the collection of large amounts of heterogeneous data used for decision-making. The cognitive framework and limitations of the human mind has been researched extensively, but the application of this knowledge within the business context has not received a lot of attention. This article reviews cognitive load, memory, the effects of information overload and pressure on psychological and physical health, and subsequent impact on the decision-making ability. By combining various schools of thought, a Task-Information-Cognitive Load (TICL) framework is proposed to combat the effects of cognitive load. It then explored how the TICL framework can be aligned with the theories and practices of information systems (IS) and decision support systems (DSS) for the development of a Knowledge Management System (KMS) that helps to reduce the decision makers' cognitive load.

Abstract:
This chapter assesses how the pervasive influence of the adolescent character provides insight into the workings of another sector of modern life relevant to us all: the economy. Less of a collective undertaking than politics, economic activity is guided primarily by individual decisions and actions in the free market system; so many of the relevant effects are seen first and foremost at the individual level. But these individual effects can multiply and cascade to generate patterns that do have important consequences for the general economic and social fabric. Emotions, misperceptions, intangible costs and benefits, influenced in many instances by underlying character traits, lead people to act in ways that the traditional models do not anticipate. As in other fields, it is only recently that some researchers have started to link personality to economic behavior in interesting and enlightening ways to dig deeper into what makes people tick when it comes to economic decision making and activity. When we combine some of these findings with ideas about the changing contours of character in the adolescent society, we can develop new understandings of some of the more salient economic trends of the past number of years.

The elderly show very low rates of access to and use of the new technologies in comparison with their significant weight in the overall population. It is essential to establish alternatives which respond to their needs and promote the access to and use of ICTs among all citizens on equal conditions. This chapter describes an experiment conducted with new technologies in the Red Cross Elderly Day Care Centre in A Coruña, using the In-TIC software and a specific methodology for intervention with elderly individuals. Three different lines of action were followed: initial evaluation of the users participating in the project; intervention by means of digital literacy and therapeutic stimulation sessions with the ICT; and final re-evaluation and data collection. The results obtained provide proof of an improvement in the users’ cognitive abilities, the acquisition of computer knowledge and skills, and the satisfaction of the elderly with regard to new technologies.
