Full textThis thesis has been carried out for the company SSM where the purpose was to standardize their time schedules and also their working methods regarding planning in production. To achieve this, the thesis has mostly been based on analysis of some of SSM's time schedules in production, where these have been examined in the smallest detail. Three out of six projects have been studied in more depth and the authors have then made their own standard templates based on these. In addition, interviews/meetings have also been held with time planners both within, but also outside the company. These methods resulted in conclusion that all site managers at SSM and personnel in the design department should use Vico Office in the future in order to standardize the time schedules. This because the program saves reusable information from each project that has been implemented, which can be used in future projects. The program contains various tools, which are stated in the report that allows the user to choose how to present the time schedule. After trying the different functions of the program, the recommendation is that the company use Vico in the future as they can combine different planning tools and connect the BIM-model with e.g. costs, quantities, resources and time. Custom standard templates have been developed to simplify and standardize time scheduling according to SSM's work processes.

Full textAbstract Title: Performance Management with computerized technology tools Authors: Helena Falck Brismark and Marlene Gadestedt Level: Bachelor thesis in Business Administration Supervisor: Stig Sörling and Tomas Källquist Date: January 2015 Aim: The aim of this study is to highlight the advantages and disadvantages of IT-based tools in the management and planning of daily activities in the public sector. Method: This study has a hermeneutic perspective as a starting point. The study has been conducted in an abdicative approach, i.e. an interaction between theory and the empirical material which contends experience with IT-tool. We have studied the IT-tool called Laps Care. The theoretical framework has been strongly influenced by the empirically material. The study is a case study with a qualitative approach in which unstructured interviews with focus groups have been made. Grounded theory has been the source of inspiration when the material has been processed and analyzed. Result & Conclusion: The interviewed in the study gave a consistent picture of the advantages and disadvantages they experienced when using the IT-tool. The study shows that there are many advantages with IT-tools in operations planning and just a few disadvantages. The advantages are for example, easier addition of temporary staff, automatic regulation of workload, and ensuring the correct time consumption to the customer. One of the disadvantages that emerged was that joint visits may be perceived as stressful. It is also concluded that the IT tool was vulnerable in the event of power failure. Contribution of the thesis: We have in this study found that perceived disadvantages of a new IT tool for a period of time can change, and then perceived as advantages. The study also contributes to IT tools that planning for activities involving people need to be flexible. It has also been shown that it is important that the IT tool takes into account all components of a business. Suggestions for future research: It has been discussed that the IT-tool, which is used in the present study, could be expanded with an additional component. If so, it would be of interest to observe how the staff experiences such a change with particular emphasis on flexibility. We are also interested to see how different generations look at the IT-tool's advantages and disadvantages. Key words: IT tools, Work planning, Communication, Time Management

Full textFollowing JM's focus on Lean Construction, where the company is working to streamline its operations, this report aims to identify frequently delayed operations and the reasons for this. The data collection of different types of delays has been limited to nine provided apartment building projects from different parts of Sweden. The processed data includes meeting minutes and schedules which then formed the basis of personal interviews with supervisors of the various projects. Based on the collected data and interviews a survey was conducted on the Internet targeted at managers, site managers and supervisors. A total of 93 people from Stockholm and 95 from regions within the National Business Unit were invited to participate in the survey. Through review of available material, it was found that the operations that usually experience some form of delay are: • Works below ground level • Scaffolding • Cladding • Elevator montage • Tiling • Delivery of kitchen fittings As for work below ground level the substandard geotechnical studies are a common cause of delay, which in turn can lead to substandard construction documents. Other common reasons for the delays in the aforementioned operations are above all a lack of managing of their own personnel and subcontractors. This applies both in the case procurement as well as their daily work. In the procurement of subcontractors, there is often ambiguity regarding the extent of the work and when and how to execute the work. This applies especially to the agreements with affiliates. In everyday operations problems with managing caused by ambiguity in communication often appear. Staff is not always aware of how and when the work is to be performed. This is exacerbated even further by the site management in different projects that have different planning processes and have different demands. JM needs to implement more detailed geotechnical investigations. This is to avoid the otherwise high risk of substandard construction documents which then can cause delays and additional costs when the project encounters unforeseen problems. The company must also be better at tasks involving planning and managing work. It is therefore important that clear agreements are established with the subcontractor, in which all partners are involved in the planning process. In order to improve the work with Lean, it is also important that JM gets better at documenting delays and their causes. In addition, they also need to create a special system that can manage and process deviations from the schedule.

Full textThe thesis describes the construction production planning, with focus in planning methods- and tools that can be used as an aid in the field. Within the recess, two practical tests and a couple of interviews were conducted to get an actual picture of how the planning works in the field, and to get feedback on the tests. This work resulted in the conclusion that different planning methods, should be used at various stages of the construction production planning, and that diverse methods have different benefits for different actors in the construction organization. One can usefully use a combination of the planning methods, CPM, LOB and the relatively unknown “Continuity method” when planning and controlling a construction project. For support in this work, Microsoft Excel and the more customized program PlanCon + should be used. After an attempt to create a 3D WPA-plan, using the Google SketchUp software, we strongly recommend it. SketchUp is a cost effective tool that creates more than it costs.

Full textBackground: In today's society, the digital development is constantly advancing in several different areas. In the construction industry, the projects are getting more complex and installations more advanced. At the same time, working methods in the construction industry get behind other industries and may in some cases be perceived as outdated. In order to keep up with other industries when it comes to technology and methods, construction companies need to focus on issues related to the implementation of digital tools in construction phase. Purpose: Research shows a profit for construction projects in both time and cost efficiency when using BIM and digital tools in construction projects. With this starting point, the bachelor thesis will focus on investigating the reason for the limited use of digital tools in production. The report also wants to highlight the difficulties in using digital tools with extra focus on 3D-models and the work on scheduling in production. Method: Theory of the subject has been obtained partly through literature but also in form of previous studies. Through qualitative interviews and a larger quantitative questionnaire survey, the authors wanted to be able to answer the report's questions. Both methods were compared to investigate whether the difficulties with using digital tools were shared by the central resources at Skanska's headquarters and the coworkers in the production and how widely the problem was on Skanska's various projects. Result: The willingness to start working more digital already exists among coworkers. Lack of knowledge and experience leads to that digital tools are experienced as difficult instead of something that will helps employee in the everyday work. With the right resources and education, increased use of digital tools will not be an impossibility for the construction industry in the near future. Consequences: I ncreased use of digital tools throughout the construction process has several advantages. The company will be able to handle more complex projects and increase their operational efficiency which in turn leads to satisfied customers, coworkers and a higher quality on the final product. Increased digitization will most likely make the company more attractive in the labor market. Restrictions: The report is limited to the construction phase use of digital tools with an additional focus on 3D-models and scheduling. In addition, the authors have chosen to delimit the report to Skanska Sweden AB's work on increasing the use of digital tools.
