Abstract:
The three publishing houses of Wen-wu in Peking, Shanghai shu-tien, and Ku-chi in Tientsin joined forces to produce a new edition of the Taoist Canon. The Tao-tsang they published in 1988 is meant to be an improvement on the so-called Cheng-t'ung Tao-tsang printed in 1921–23 by the Han-fen lou branch of Shanghai Commercial Press. The latter takes as its foundation the copy of the Ming Canon from the archives of the Pai-yün Kuan (White Cloud Abbey) in Peking. The woodcut edition of the Ming Canon contains two components. The core collection appeared under the title Ta Ming Tao-tsang ching in the years 1444–45 of the Cheng-t'ung reign period. A small supplement entitled Hsü Tao-tsang ching was issued in 1607.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Background:Methotrexate (MTX) is the first-line therapy for rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The concentrations of MTX-polyglutamates (PG) in erythrocytes, an active form of MTX, are useful markers for the optimal usage of MTX in patients with RA. The concentrations of MTX-PG have been reported to be different between Japanese and Caucasians. However, the difference among Asian ethnicity remains unclear. Objectives:To examine MTX-PG concentrations in association with MTX dose during the first 24 weeks after the initiation of MTX for newly diagnosed RA patients in Japan, Korea and Taiwan. Methods:MIRACLE study is a multicenter, open-label, randomized, 48 weeks interventional study conducted in Japan, Korea and Taiwan to evaluate non-inferiority of low dose to high dose of MTX as an add-on therapy to adalimumab in 300 patients with RA who do not achieve remission after 24 weeks MTX monotherapy in stipulated dosage. In the first 24 weeks, MTX was started at 6 to 8 mg/week for newly diagnosed RA patients, and promptly escalated to the maximum tolerable dose in 12 weeks in principle. This interim data evaluation was intended to investigate the differences among countries in the relationship between MTX dose, safety and MTX-PG concentrations in erythrocytes during the first 24 weeks. The efficacy of the treatment is not included at this point. Results:A total of 166 patients (106 in Japan, 35 in Korea, 25 in Taiwan) were included in this interim data. The age at treatment initiation was 57.2 years old on average and female was 79.5%. The time course changes in total and individual MTX-PG levels differed in the three countries. At 24 weeks, whereas the mean total MTX-PG concentrations were comparable (112.9 nmol/L in Japan, 104.4 nmol/L in Korea, and 115.7 nmol/L in Taiwan) with a dose of MTX of 12.3 mg/week, 14.1 mg/week, and 12.2 mg/week, respectively, the individual MTX-PG concentrations were different. The MTX-PG1 and MTX-PG2 concentrations were lower in Korea than Japan and Taiwan whereas MTX-PG3, MTX-PG4 and MTX-PG5 concentrations were the highest in Korea. Conclusion:The distribution of short-chain and long-chain MTX-PG concentrations were various among Asian countries despite similar dose of MTX administration: NCT03505008.Disclosure of Interests:Hiroya Tamai: None declared, Yuko Kaneko Speakers bureau: AbbVie, Astellas, Ayumi, Bristol–Myers Squibb, Chugai, Eisai, Eli Lilly, Hisamitsu, Jansen, Kissei, Kirin, Pfizer, Sanofi, Takeda, Tanabe-Mitsubishi, and UCB., Grant/research support from: Sanofi, Hideto Kameda Speakers bureau: AbbVie, Pfizer, Consultant of: AbbVie, Grant/research support from: AbbVie, Eisai, Masataka Kuwana Speakers bureau: Astellas, Asahi Kasei Pharma, Boehringer- Ingelheim, Chugai, Eisai, Janssen, Mochida, Nippon Shinyaku, Ono Pharmaceuticals, Pfizer, Mitsubishi-Tanabe, Consultant of: Corbus, Grant/research support from: AbbVie, Asahi Kasei Pharma, Boehringer- Ingelheim, Chugai, Eisai, MBL, Nippon Shinyaku, Ono Pharmaceuticals, Mitsubishi-Tanabe, Yutaka Okano: None declared, Tomonori Ishii Speakers bureau: Chugai, Mitsubishi- Tanabe, Glaxo Smith Kline, Pfizer, Eli Lilly, Janssen, AbbVie, Eisai, Astellas, Kei Ikeda Speakers bureau: AbbVie, Eli Lilly, Novartis, Mitsubishi-Tanabe, Eisai, BMS, Grant/research support from: Mitsubishi-Tanabe, Hiroaki Taguchi: None declared, Shinji Sato: None declared, Toshiaki Miyamoto: None declared, Shintaro Hirata Speakers bureau: AbbVie, Asahi Kasei Pharma, Astellas, Ayumi, Bristol Myers Squibb, Chugai, Eisai, Eli Lilly, Janssen, Glaxo Smith Kline, Kissei, Pfizer, Sanofi, Mitsubishi- Tanabe, UCB, Paid instructor for: AbbVie, Mitsubishi- Tanabe, Consultant of: AbbVie, Eisai, Gilead, Grant/research support from: AbbVie, Chugai, Mitsubishi-Tanabe, UCB, Hidekata Yasuoka Speakers bureau: AbbVie, Asahi Kasei Pharma, Astellas, Daiichi- Sankyo, Eisai, Kissei, Takeda, Mitsubishi- Tanabe, Chugai, Novartis, Eli Lilly, Pfizer, Janssen, Sanofi, Teijin, Boehringer- Ingelheim, Bayer, Glaxo Smith Kline, Paid instructor for: AbbVie, Consultant of: AbbVie, Asahi Kasei, Grant/research support from: Mitsubishi-Tanabe, Takeda, Daiichi-Sankyo, Chugai, Bristol-Myers, MSD, Astellas, Toshihisa Kojima Speakers bureau: AbbVie, Pfizer, Eisai, Grant/research support from: AbbVie, Sung-Hwan Park: None declared, Kichul Shin: None declared, Han Joo Baek: None declared, Yun Jong Lee Grant/research support from: research fund, In Ah Choi Speakers bureau: Abbvie, Eizai, Grant/research support from: Abbvie, Eizai, Jinhyun Kim: None declared, Ping-Ning Hsu: None declared, Chang-Fu Kuo: None declared, Chun-Ming Huang Paid instructor for: AbbVie, Pfizer, Meng-Yu Weng Consultant of: AbbVie, Wan-Yu Sung: None declared, Wen-Chan Tsai: None declared, Tien-Tsai Cheng Paid instructor for: AbbVie, Grant/research support from: AbbVie, Takehiro Taninaga Shareholder of: Eisai Co., Ltd., Employee of: Eisai Co., Ltd., Masahiko Mori Shareholder of: Eisai Co., Ltd., Employee of: Eisai Co., Ltd., Hideaki Miyagishi Employee of: Eisai Co., Ltd., Yasunori Sato: None declared, Tsutomu Takeuchi Speakers bureau: Astellas, Abbvie, Daiichi Sankyo, Ayumi, Eisai, GlaxoSmithKline, Mitsubishi Tanabe, Chugai, Novartis, Eli Lilly, Pfizer, Bristol Myers Squibb, Janssen, UCB, TaishoToyama, Sanofi–Aventis, Nipponkayaku, Taiho, Gilead, Boehringer Ingelheim, Grant/research support from: Asahikasei, Astellas, Abbvie, Daiichi Sankyo, Ayumi, Eisai, Takeda, Mitsubishi Tanabe, Chugai, Eli Lilly, UCB, Sanofi–Aventis, Nipponkayaku, Boehringer Ingelheim

Abstract:
Underwater acoustic signature identification has been employed as a technique for detecting underwater vehicles, such as in anti-submarine warfare or harbour security systems. The underwater sound channel, however, has interference due to spatial variations in topography or sea state conditions and temporal variations in water column properties, which cause multipath and scattering in acoustic propagation. Thus, acoustic data quality control can be very challenging. One of challenges for an identification system is how to recognise the same target signature from measurements under different temporal and spatial settings. This paper deals with the above challenges by establishing an identification system composed of feature extraction, classification algorithms, and feature selection with two approaches to recognise the target signature of underwater radiated noise from a research vessel, Ocean Researcher III, with a bottom mounted hydrophone in five cruises in 2016 and 2017. The fundamental frequency and its power spectral density are known as significant features for classification. In feature extraction, we extract the features before deciding which is more significant from the two aforementioned features. The first approach utilises Polynomial Regression (PR) classifiers and feature selection by Taguchi method and analysis of variance under a different combination of factors and levels. The second approach utilises Radial Basis Function Neural Network (RBFNN) selecting the optimised parameters of classifier via genetic algorithm. The real-time classifier of PR model is robust and superior to the RBFNN model in this paper. This suggests that the Automatic Identification System for Vehicles using Acoustic Signature developed here can be carried out by utilising harmonic frequency features extracted from unmasking the frequency bandwidth for ship noises and proves that feature extraction is appropriate for our targets. Abstract:
Panax L. is a small genus in the Araliaceae family. In Vietnam, this genus is distributed in the high mountains in the North and in some high mountains in the Central Highlands. In traditional medicine, roots and rhizomes of all Panax species are of high utility. Recently, the finding of new distributions of some Panax species in Vietnam has caused much controversy and confusion. This study investigates 27 fresh specimens of 6 taxa of Panax genus that have been collected from 6 provinces of Vietnam. Based on the combined ITS-rDNA and matK dataset, a well-resolved phylogeny of Panax species/varieties distributed in Vietnam was constructed. Thereby, the study suggests identifying Tam that la xe as Panax stipuleanatus H.T.Tsai et K.M.Feng and Sam puxailaileng as Panax vietnamensis var. fuscidiscus K.Komatsu, S.Zhu & S.Q.Cai, which contributes a new distribution point of this variety in Vietnam. The study also shows that ITS-rDNA and matK genes are highly potential in identifying and distinguishing the taxa of Panax genus. Abstract:
We review our recent work on optical biosensors based on microring resonators (MRR) integrated with 4x4 multimode interference (MMI) couplers for multichannel and highly sensitive chemical and biological sensors. The proposed sensor structure has advantages of compactness, high sensitivity compared with the reported sensing structures. By using the transfer matrix method (TMM) and numerical simulations, the designs of the sensor based on silicon waveguides are optimized and demonstrated in detail. We applied our structure to detect glucose and ethanol concentrations simultaneously. A high sensitivity of 9000 nm/RIU, detection limit of 2x10-4 for glucose sensing and sensitivity of 6000nm/RIU, detection limit of 1.3x10-5 for ethanol sensing are achieved. Cho, Hwei-Cheng. "Chu Tien-wen : writing 'decadent' fiction in contemporary Taiwan." Thesis, SOAS, University of London, 1999. http://eprints.soas.ac.uk/28803/.

Abstract:
In recent years, literature in Taiwan has developed dynamically in a context of rapid social change and intense debate in intellectual circles over ideology. Chu Tien-wen (1956- ) is the eldest daughter of the most notable literary family in Taiwan; the principal founder of the "Three-Three" literary coterie in the late 1970s and the most successful screenwriter of the Taiwanese New Cinema in the 1980s. However, as yet no book-length study has been devoted to the works of this important figure in the contemporary Taiwan literary scene. The present thesis is a study of Chu T'ien-wen's work up to 1996, with chapters arranged broadly in chronological order. It traces the formation of her early sinocentric, utopian political and social beliefs, and their modification in the light of her increasing contact with Taiwan-centred Nativist ideas. This study endeavours to address the many facets of Chu's writing identity (Chinese tradition - Taiwan identity - Feminism - Creative writing), and examine how her works reflect her maturing understanding under the influence of changes in society. Forced to re-evaluate her ideas by the clash between her vision of Confucian Chinese ideals and the development of Taiwan-centred Nativism, Chu broke through to her unique style in Splendour of the End of the Century, a collection of stories which won immediate critical acclaim both for its unconventional subject matter and its unorthodox style. Since then Chu, in writing about the moral and spiritual decadence of modern urban life in The Notebook of a Desolate Man, has maintained her basic belief in the role of the shih, but, at the same time, she has yielded to the inevitability of destruction of traditional values. Nonetheless, her writing on previously unmentionable subjects has broadened the parameters of what is acceptable in literature. This study will demonstrate that in writing her "decadent" fiction, and through her depiction of sensual refinement, Chu showed that social changes in Taiwan had forced her to accept the fact that Confucian thought has irretrievably lost its primacy in intellectual life, and that her original utopian vision is no longer attainable. As she accepts democracy more, she has had to leave behind her early ideal, be more pragmatic, and become a "decadent" writer philosophically.

Adapted from the globally well-known “King Lear” of William Shakespeare, “Tien-Wen” is the third Bangzi-Shakespeare performance of Taiwan Bangzi Opera Troupe. In “Tien-Wen”, the time and place, the language, the category of play, and even the sex of Lear have all been transformed, Lady Hai-Ling Wang gracefully and successfully illustrates King Lear in her splendid way with Bangzi’s stage movement and vocal performances, and make this story even friendlier and better understandable to Chinese people. In this work, the studies and analysis of intercultural adaptation from “King Lear” to “Tien-Wen” will be explored in the aspects of plots, characters and themes.

This thesis analyzes The Words of a Witch from the perspectives of time, space, and voice in order to provide an alternative interpretive aspect for the study of Chu Tien-wen, the author. In terms of time, the first chapter examines the structure of the novel and thus identifies the relationship between meta-language and the irrelevant time frame. By exploring the intertexuality of the novel, it shows how Chu Tien-wen extends the text to an open context. Finally, the chapter sums up by illustrating the postmodern characteristics of the novel to indicate that it is a literary Revelation by Chu. Chapter Two analyzes space in the novel. The spatial metaphor highlights the concepts of the margin which is manifested in the journey of the lone travelers. The family-country’s time-space is a rhetorical strategy used by Chu to criticize contemporary politics and society. The film space is manifested by the images of memory which engage the viewer in reading. With an analysis of the non-linear narrative, this chapter concludes that Chu accomplishes a personal revelation. Chapter Three analyzes the voice in the novel to explore the author’s political messages. Chu insinuates the politics of Taiwan by using the words of the Scripture and showcasing it as a mockery of the political realities. Through her heteroglosiac discourse, Chu writes a political revelation.

Abstract In this creative thesis, I investigate and explore the spirit of self-creativity. I want to reflect my spiritual life and convert my life experience into the inner power that can help me create my artworks. With printmaking and linear structure, I can explore the limitation of life from a spiritual perspective. By creating art intuitively, my senses are entirely liberated. I explore the connections between different media unceasingly. I introspect and review my thoughts and care for life, and create unlimited value in the limited life with my expression. In the process of creating, ideologies and structures keep being created and transformed. They disappear and extend constantly, and go deep into my thoughts and soul. My creative style comes from my understanding and experiencing the life. I try to discover my language of creation. I hope by doing this, my creative future is unlimited. There are five chapters in the thesis. Chapter I: Motive and purpose, scope of thesis, methods, and interpretation of words. Chapter II: Discuss the thesis foundation based on psychology and influential artists. Chapter III: The concept, content, style, and technique of expression. Chapter IV: Practice of creating series: “The Trace of Time,” “Différance,” “Conscious Life,” and “State of Mind.” Chapter V: Conclusion: Review and sum up my experience and gain, and the future direction of my works.

《Island of Silence》by Wei-Zhen, Su and 《Notes of A Desolate Man》by Tien-Wen,Chu won the recommendation award by jury and the first award of China Times Literature Million Novel Award, respectively in 1994.These two outstanding contemporary Taiwan novelists have experienced young and obscure period of feminine writers. Both of their childhood and personality were formed in the military dependant’s village, the living pulse of bamboo fence seem to merge into the pulse of their blood, and convert to the desolate of leaving hometown under their pens Both of them took Ai-Ling,Chang as their example, and have been considered as the successors of Chang sect. The phantom island of Wei-Zhen,Su and the Chang tone and Hu accent of Tien-Wen,Chu even became the work to fulfill her promise to her teacher Lan-Cheng,Hu. Wei-Zhen.Su’s 《Island of Silence》subverted the pure and resolute image of woman in her former novels,a great deal of sexual passion scenes presented a lote of cater to patriarch, but also attempted to resist it at the same time. 《Island of Silence》is disunited and conflicted, and presented the writing attitude of anti-sexual passion. As for Tien-Wen,Chu’s《Notes of A Desolate Man》,it presented the licentious scenes of indulge in carnal pleasure without restraint among homosexuals;however, their sex was desolate and almost no pleasure;their living situation was just like ghosts that fall into hell, and their identification process was painful and full of difficulty. In fact, both of them devoted to create the Utopia for women through hermaphroditism and female writing. The writing of sexual passion in 《Island of Silence》 and 《Notes of A Desolate Man》reflected remotely with femail writing concept of French feminist Cixious, their concept of bisexuality, body writing, concern of other, experience of disperse and exile, floating and changing style of writing, and the practice of writing were almost closely hooked up with the spirit of female writing ,and also attempted to overthrow the hegemony of Patriarchy. In addition to the attempt of establishing a utopia of woman, another utopia was the military dependant’s village, which was highly concerned in their mind but almost moved toward it’s end in the real life. These two female writers with the province and county of their family register in china wrapped the subject of nationality and military dependant’s village in layers of sexual passion, presented the plentiful aspect of the ingenious coexistence of sexual passion and military dependant’s village, and established an erotic utopia. As the most important middle aged contemporary female writers in Taiwan, they expressed the gloom in their mind through these two long novels of sexual passion with the vagrant mood that rooted in their hearts. The solitary island depicted dy Wei-Zhen,Su thus became the symbal of the isolated military dependant’s village, and the unbearable bad experience of the desolate man under Tien-Wen,Chu’s pen was exactly the reflection of people came from provinces in china in destitution. They sighed for the destiny of gay and military dependant’s village in a troubled times was as cruel as an isolated island, and became the peak of poetic perfection in Taiwan novel in the end of the century.
