The rapid development of transport infrastructure is a major threat to endangered species worldwide. Roads and railways can increase animal mortality, fragment habitats, and exacerbate other threats to biodiversity. Predictive models that forecast the future impacts to endangered species can guide land-use planning in ways that proactively reduce the negative effects of transport infrastructure. Agent-based models are well suited for predictive scenario testing, yet their application to endangered species conservation is rare. Here, we developed a spatially explicit, agent-based model to forec

Within occupied Ranges of the Reserve a mean of 68% ± SE 7 of forest Beats had tiger signs. Fit of eight plausible closed models to the data indicated more support for model Mh, which incorporates individual heterogeneity in capture probabilities. Specifically, we tested three hypotheses in Chitwan National Park, Nepal, where increasing human–tiger conflicts potentially jeopardize long-term coexistence. Abstract:
With the introduction of the more stringent short-term 1-hour air quality NO2 standard, the use of redundant, overly conservative assumptions (e.g. use of permit allowable emissions hourly rate based on maximum annual tons per year) is no longer appropriate and potentially misinforms and obfuscates modeling compliance demonstrations. One of the challenges of modeling oxides of nitrogen (NOx) emissions is determining the amount of total NOx that will exist in the form of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) at a receptor. Combustion source emissions usually contain mostly nitric oxide (NO), which is not a

Abstract:
When modeling NO2 impacts from combustion sources, justification is required to receive approval of a representative in-stack NO2/NOx ratio, which is a key model input when using advanced modeling tiers that consider plume chemistry. A September 30, 2014 EPA memorandum requires approval by the Regional Office on a case-by-case basis regarding the selection and application of the in-stack NO2/NOx ratio. The EPA Tier 2 Ambient Ratio Method (ARM2) and Tier 3 Ozone Limiting Method (OLM) and Plume Volume Molar Ratio Method (PVMRM) NO2 methods require an in-stack NO2/NOx ratio (ISR) as an input to A

Abstract:
Government-owned development banks have often been justified by the need to respond to financial market imperfections that hinder the establishment and growth of promising businesses, and as a result, stifle economic development more generally. However, evidence on the effectiveness of these banks in mitigating financial constraints is still lacking. To fill this gap, this paper analyzes the impact of Bancoldex, Colombia's publicly owned development bank, on access to credit. It uses a unique dataset that contains key characteristics of all loans issued to businesses in Colombia, including the
