Abstract:
A novel concept of multiple deterministic analyses is proposed to design safer and more damage-tolerant structures, particularly when excited by dynamic including seismic loading in time domain. Since the presence of numerous sources of uncertainty cannot be avoided or overlooked, the underlying risk is estimated to compare design alternatives. To generate the implicit performance functions explicitly, the basic response surface method is significantly improved. Then, several surrogate models are proposed. The advanced factorial design and Kriging method are used as the major building blocks.

In this thesis, we develop a technique which is capable of identifying and rejecting the sampling zeros for continuous-time linear time-invariant systems. The method makes use of the MOESP family of identification algorithms (59), (60), (61), (62) to obtain a discrete-time model of the system. Since, the structure and parameters of discrete-time models are difficult to relate to the underlying continuous-time system of interest it is necessary to compute the continuous-time equivalent from the discrete-time model. Abstract:
In this thesis, we investigate the estimation problem and inference problem for the complex models. Two major categories of complex models are emphasized by us, one is generalized linear models, the other is time series models. For the generalized linear models, we consider one fundamental problem about sure screening for interaction terms in ultra-high dimensional feature space; for time series models, an important model assumption about Markov property is considered by us. The first part of this thesis illustrates the significant interaction pursuit problem for ultra-high dimensional models

A new method is proposed for the simultaneous and automatic analysis of the association between the time-varying power spectrum and covariates. The procedure adaptively partitions the grid of time and covariate values into an unknown number of approximately stationary blocks and nonparametrically estimates local spectra within blocks through penalized splines. [Truncated abstract] Time series of natural phenomena usually show irregular fluctuations. Often we want to know the underlying system and to predict future phenomena. An effective way of tackling this task is by time series modelling. Originally, linear time series models were used. As it became apparent that nonlinear systems abound in nature, modelling techniques that take into account nonlinearity in time series were developed. A particularly convenient and general class of nonlinear models is the pseudolinear models, which are linear combinations of nonlinear functions. These models can

Interest in mediation analysis has increased over time, with particular excitement in the social and behavioral sciences. A mediator is defined as an intermediate in the causal sequence between an independent and dependent variable. Previous research has demonstrated that the cross-sectional form of mediation analysis is inherently flawed, evidenced by the inability of the cross-sectional mediation model to account for temporal precedence and estimation of the indirect effect being biased in nearly all situations. For these reasons, a longitudinal model is recommended. However, a method for de
