The research employs the theoretical lens of human ecology of disease to examine the ecology of malaria in Lagos state, Nigeria. As a first step I examine the spatial and temporal trends in clinical malaria infection using a density-based algorithm to identify two locations (Ikeja and Kosofe LGAs) with one of the highest malaria infection rates and ecologically diverse terrain. They form the focus of this research. Influenza is a respiratory virus that causes significant morbidity and mortality throughout the world every year. Seasonal epidemics of influenza occur in the late fall and winter in the United States annually, but there are variations in its timing from year to year. <p>This study develops a model for understanding spatial change and the construction of space as a meeting-place, and then employs it in order to show an otherwise little-known picture of (sub-)urban Russia and its transformation from Soviet times to today. The model is based on time-geographic ideas of time-space as a limited resource in which forces of various kinds struggle for access and form space in interaction with each other. Drawing on cultural semiotics and the concepts of lifeworld and system, the study highlights the social side of these space-forming forces. Based on a long-term f

Abstract:
Planning departments are besieged with temporal/historical information. While for many institutions historical information can be relegated to archives, planning departments have a constant need to access and query their historical information, particularly their historical spatial information such as zoning. This can be a cumbersome process fraught with inaccuracies due to the changing organizational methods and the extended historical legacies of most municipalities. Geographic Information Systems can be a tool to provide a solution to the difficulties in querying spatio-temporal planning da

Abstract:
In the southern Appalachians, the dominant soil order, Ultisols, is highly susceptible to erosion. If left unmanaged these soils can develop into gully systems resulting in land degradation. This study examines gully development through sidewall mass-wasting events at a high temporal resolution using 30 minute time-lapse photography. Prior research at this site found significant mass wasting events occurring between weekly monitoring periods. By shortening the interval of observation to 30-minutes, a more accurate understanding of the frequency and intensity of these mass-wasting events, and t
