Abstract:
Nowadays the well-known expression “time is money” is more and more often replaced by the thesis “time is more valuable than money”. As a result in Russian management practice there is more apparent understanding of irreversibility of time and missed opportunities associated with it. That is if company doesn’t set its goal to competently place the accents of “time management”. Perhaps this explains the current interest in time management especially at the level of university training courses, as well as the frequent publication of academic papers in this field. The purpose of this article is to provide the evidence of the applicability of the term "time management" in the framework of personal and organizational time management. In this regard, the authors set the task to clarify the features of the formation and evolutionary development of classical and modern time management, as well as the main directions that have formed within its framework. The objects of the research are the concepts of “time control” and “chronotope control”. In the course of the research there were used such methods as comparison, generalization, analogies method, and methods of logical and theoretical analysis. The article discusses and clarifies the priority areas for managing organization's activities, in which time parameters are designated as the most important criterion. It should be noted that the term "chronotope management" within the framework of personal and organizational time management is more accurate in conveying the goals of modern time management. The authors came to the conclusion that for the effective work of the company in the field of time management, the “management of the personal chronotope” of employees must be harmonized with the management of the organization as a whole. The scientific contribution of this study is that as a result of the integration of ideas from other fields (psychology, sociology, economics, mathematics, etc.), the authors reinterpret the contradictory results common in the literature on time management. The results obtained can be used in the activities of business units, scientific and educational organizations. The subsequent directions of the research are the study of applied tools, with the help of which it is possible to establish a positive relationship between "chronotope management" and the desired results.

Abstract:
Time is in control of our everyday life and work life. Time is a valuable resource of which everyone possesses the same amount. In work life, time is important; it rules the workday and the tasks that are being performed. Time is even more significant within the consultancy industry, where worked time and competence is what is being delivered to the customers. Since time is of great importance for consulting firms, time management systems and time reporting become a crucial part of a consultant’s day. IT consulting firms spend lots of time and money on business systems, despite this the area of how time management and performance management are connected is relatively unexplored. This report aims to contribute to an enhanced understanding regarding why consultancy firms work with time management, and how data from time management systems could be used. The study will also investigate how the employees could be motivated to use the time management system in the extent that the managers wish, as well as important requirements on data from the time management system. These questions can together give answer to how time management can be aligned with performance management within an IT consultancy firm. The report is based on 14 interviews performed at five different IT consulting firms in the Stockholm area, a participant observation conducted at one of the participating companies, as well as a literature review. The study was performed during the spring of 2013. The study found that the main reason for IT consultant firms to report time is to gain decision support for invoices and salary payments. Being able to see overtime and flextime is something that is appreciated by the employees. Other identified areas of usage are forecasts and estimates, evaluations and follow-ups, utilization rate calculations, and employee care. Regular follow-ups, preferable weekly, are necessary for motivating the employees to work with time management. It is also important that the time management system is easy to use in order for it to generate relevant decision support. The study shows that to implement a successful time management strategy, the following aspects should be considered: (i) to not measure too much, (ii) to have clear communication and weekly deadlines, (iii) to make it simple, (iv) to create awareness among the employees, and (v) to have a time management system that mutually benefits the managers and the employees.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Logical time management is used to synchronize the executions of distributed simulation elements. In existing time management systems, such as High Level Architecture (HLA), logical times of the simulation elements are synchronized. However, in some cases synchronization can unnecessarily decrease the performance of the system. In the proposed HLA based time management mechanism, federates are clustered into logically related groups. The relevance of federates is taken to be a function of proximity which is defined as the distance between them in the virtual space. Thus, each federate cluster is composed of relatively close federates according to calculated distances. When federate clusters are sufficiently far from each other, there is no need to synchronize them, as they do not relate each other. So in PATiM mechanism, inter-cluster logical times are not synchronized when clusters are sufficiently distant. However, if the distant federate clusters get close to each other, they will need to resynchronize their logical times. This temporal partitioning is aimed at reducing network traffic and time management calculations and also increasing the concurrency between federates. The results obtained based on case applications have verified that clustering improves local performance as soon as federates become unrelated.

Abstract:
Every day large volumes of data are collected in the form of time series. Time series are collections of events or observations, predominantly numeric in nature, sequentially recorded on a regular or irregular time basis. Time series are becoming increasingly important in nearly every organisation and industry, including banking, finance, telecommunication, and transportation. Banking institutions, for instance, rely on the analysis of time series for forecasting economic indices, elaborating financial market models, and registering international trade operations. More and more time series are being used in this type of investigation and becoming a valuable resource in todays organisations. This thesis investigates and proposes solutions to some current and important issues in time series data management (TSDM), using Design Science Research Methodology. The thesis presents new models for mapping time series data to relational databases which optimise the use of disk space, can handle different time granularities, status attributes, and facilitate time series data manipulation in a commercial Relational Database Management System (RDBMS). These new models provide a good solution for current time series database applications with RDBMS and are tested with a case study and prototype with financial time series information. Also included is a temporal data model for illustrating time series data lifetime behaviour based on a new set of time dimensions (confidentiality, definitiveness, validity, and maturity times) specially targeted to manage time series data which are introduced to correctly represent the different status of time series data in a timeline. The proposed temporal data model gives a clear and accurate picture of the time series data lifecycle. Formal definitions of these time series dimensions are also presented. In addition, a time series grouping mechanism in an extensible commercial relational database system is defined, illustrated, and justified. The extension consists of a new data type and its corresponding rich set of routines that support modelling and operating time series information within a higher level of abstraction. It extends the capability of the database server to organise and manipulate time series into groups. Thus, this thesis presents a new data type that is referred to as GroupTimeSeries, and its corresponding architecture and support functions and operations. Implementation options for the GroupTimeSeries data type in relational based technologies are also presented. Finally, a framework for TSDM with enough expressiveness of the main requirements of time series application and the management of that data is defined. The framework aims at providing initial domain know-how and requirements of time series data management, avoiding the impracticability of designing a TSDM system on paper from scratch. Many aspects of time series applications including the way time series data are organised at the conceptual level are addressed. The central abstraction for the proposed domain specific framework is the notions of business sections, group of time series, and time series itself. The framework integrates comprehensive specification regarding structural and functional aspects for time series data management. A formal framework specification using conceptual graphs is also explored.

Abstract:
The main goal of this thesis is to investigate the time situation of a particular entrepreneur in individual time stages of his enterprise. At the beginning the topic of time management and other relevant issues are mentioned. These issues were picked in order to help develop one's organization skills. The Theoretical Part introduces the topic of time management and shows tools which can be utilized to boost one's efficiency. Other topics like goal setting, prioritization, stress management and leadership are further discussed in this thesis. Deep quantitative interview with the entrepreneur was chosen to be the main research method. This data is accompanied by the provided documents, information from the company's website and further information the entrepreneur has shared about the company. The results of this case study are compared with the theoretical and practical information in this thesis. This study finds the entrepreneur to be a good example of dealing with time management. The entrepreneur's attitude towards modern technology is also much appreciated as are some of his core principles and values (for ex. not postponing problems). Setting goals and priorities in written form can be mentioned as a recommendation for the entrepreneur. Right kind of delegation on reliable people may also improve the situation (this is already slowly occurring in the firm).
