This thesis concentrates on testing fractional (and seasonally fractional) integration and cointegration in macroeconomic time series. Fractional integration has recently emerged in the literature as an alternative plausible way of modelling economic series, and here we focus mainly on some empirical applications of a testing procedure suggested by Robinson (1994c) for testing unit roots and other nonstationary hypotheses in raw time series. These tests, described in Chapter 2, are asymptotically most powerful against fractional alternatives, have asymptotic critical values given by a chi-squa

As a result, ensuring that an RTES behaves correctly is non-trivial, especially after adding time as a new dimension to the complexity of the testing process. The accelerated life time model is considered. First, test procedures for testing the parameter of a parametric acceleration function is investigated; this is done under the assumption of parametric and nonparametric baseline distribution. Further, based on nonparametric estimators for regression functions tests are proposed for checking whether a parametric acceleration function is appropriate to model the influence of the covariates. Resampling procedures are discussed for the realization of these methods. Simulations complete the considerations.

The method tests structural components at full or large scale and in real-time. The physical test interacts with a computer model of the structure surrounding the test component.
