Abstract:

We use low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy in combination with angle-resolved ultraviolet and two-photon photoemission spectroscopy to investigate the interfacial electronic structure of titanyl phthalocyanine (TiOPc) on Cu(110). We show that the presence of two unique molecular adsorption configurations is crucial for a molecular-level analysis of the hybridized interfacial electronic structure. Specifically, thermally induced self-assembly exposes marked adsorbate-configuration-specific contributions to the interfacial electronic structure. The results of this work demonstrate an avenue towards understanding and controlling interfacial electronic structure in chemisorbed films even for the case of complex film structure.

Abstract:
Photovoltaics manufactured using organic materials as a substitute for inorganic materials may provide for cheaper production of solar cells if their efficiencies can be made comparable to existing technologies. Photovoltaic devices are comprised of layered structures where the electrical, chemical, and physical properties at the multiple interfaces play a significant role in the operation of the completed device. This thesis attempts to establish a relationship between interfacial properties and overall device performance by investigation of both the organic/organic heterojunction interface, as well as the interface between the inorganic substrate and the first organic layer with useful insights towards enhancing the efficiency of organic solar cells. It has been proposed that residual chemical species may act as barriers to charge transfer at the interface between the transparent conductor (TCO) and the first organic layer, possibly causing a large contact resistance and leading to reduced device performance. Previous work has investigated the surface of the TCO but no baseline characterization of carbon-free surfaces has previously been given. In this work clean surfaces are investigated to develop a fundamental understanding of the intrinsic spectra such that further analyses of contaminated surfaces can be presented systematically and reproducibly to develop a chemical model of the TCO surface. The energy level offset at the organic/organic heterojunction has been proposed to relate to the maximum potential achievable for a solar cell under illumination, however, few experimental observations have been made where both the interface characterization and device performance are presented. Photovoltaic properties are examined in this work with titanyl phthalocyanine used as a novel donor material for enhancement of spectral absorption and optimization of the open-circuit potential. Characterization of the interface between TiOPc and C60 coupled with characterization of the interface between copper phthalocyanine and C60 shows that the higher ionization potential of TiOPc does correlate to greater open circuit potentials.Examination of photovoltaic behavior using equivalent circuit modeling relates the importance of series resistance and recombination to the homogeneity of the solar cell structure.

Titanly phthalocyanine (TiOPc) film gas sensor performs satisfactory in terms of reproducibility and sensivity when sening NO2 gas. It exhibits very fast desorption, however, the adsorption rate is rather slow, making it unsuitable for NO2 sensing. TiOPc film prepared under room temperature and small deposition rate comprises of α and amorphous phase, as proved by X-ray studies. After 3 hrs heat treatment at 250℃,α- phase was transformed into β-phase with a corresponding change in the film's responding characteristics torward NO2 sensing such as increase in Tmax and recovery time, decrease in response time, etc. Through a surface adsorption model, the activation energy of the adsorption and desorption were determined. It was found that heat treatment reduces the film's adsorption activation energy while increases its desorption activation energy, in consistent with the observed changes in response times.

In this thesis, we intended to modify the actuating structure of a traditional deformable mirror which was actuated by an electrode-array. We developed a new smart composite material which could use optical illumination to modulate the spatially distributed actuating forces. The smart composite material is composed of photoconductive material TiOPc (Titanyl Phthalocyanine) and piezoelectric material PZT (Lead Zirconate Titanate) to perform Opto-Piezo modulation. More specifically, spatial modulation in this smart composite is done by using a light field instead of an electrical field to modulate the spatial distribution of the force field created. To enhance the effect of a light field modulated force field, the electrical impedance of TiOPc/copolymer thin film and piezoelectric lamina must match. The electrical impedance of TiOPc thin film was measured by Agilent 4294A Precision Impedance Analyzer and an equivalent circuit model was established. According to the experimental results of the measured electrical impedance, we built the relationship between the parameters of thin film process and the equivalent R-C value in the equivalent circuit model. Further experiments were performed to establish the relationship between light intensity and the R-C value. An actuator equation was also developed for the spatially modulated TiOPc/PZT actuator. ESPI (Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometer) was then introduced to test the ability of the spatially modulated TiOPc/PZT actuator. The experimental results confirmed the ability of spatial modulation. Furthermore, we used CODE V to perform surface fitting of Zernike polynomial. The spatial modulation by light achieved was identified to be able to compensate third-order aberration such as field curvature and astigmatism.

Since Titanium oxide phthalocyanine (TiOPc), which is a photovoltaic material, has the properties of excellent light absorption, low toxicity, in aqueous solution stability, good heat resistance and low production cost, it has been widely applied on laser printers. Dr. Chih-Kung Lee and Dr. Yu-Hsiang Hsu, Institute of Applied Mechanics, National Taiwan University, Taiwan has developed a dip coating technology in an attempt to control the distribution of TiOPc within the coated film. It is the purpose of this thesis to carry out further studies to determine the distribution with better accuracy. In this thesis, we have used the complementary analyses of published papers to clarify the relationship between microstructures and conductivities for any arbitrary distribution within coated TiOPc film. Among them, we have used the X-ray diffraction and transmission X-ray microscopies in National Synchrotron Radiation Research Center, Taiwan, to resolve the microstructures of the coated TiOPc in angstrom and micrometer levels. Based on the above experimental results and additional data from the experiments of Grazing Incident X-Ray Diffraction (GIXRD), we have obtained lattice constants by using the available software of General Structure Analysis System (GSAS). We have also verified the relationship between impedance and parameter of c-axis lattice constant by using the software of Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). By applying regression analysis, we have confirmed the proportional relationship between the determined c-axis lattice parameter and the measured impedance. In addition, we have also used transmission X-ray microscopy to study TiOPc films and to understand the electrostatic power stored in between TiOPc layers down to atomic levels. The results have revealed congested TiOPc molecules between layers implying a lower impedance than expected. Also, by tuning several essential factors used in the dip-coating process that affect the lattice constant and molecular stacking density of the coated TiOPc film, we have found ways to control its capacitance and impedance. Apart from that, dip coating can also affect the capacitance and impedance of TiOPc caused by different cross-scale distribution patterns resulting from different molecular stacking density within the layer structure in micrometer level. Finally, regarding to the control of the thickness of specimens by dip coating, we suggest to utilize low-temperature-cut method and scanning electronic microscopy to find the differences between expected and experimented results. At last, we have studied the discrepancy between desired and measured thicknesses in dip-coated TiOPc films and suggested some feasible methods to reduce the discrepancy with a help of a simple formula.

In this thesis, we added photoconductive material to enable optical illumination control mechanism onto the operations of flat piezoelectric loudspeakers. We also developed a new smart composite device based on interactions of optical, mechanical and electrical fields. This smart composite material was composed of photoconductive material TiOPc (Titanyl Phthalocyanine) and piezoelectric material PZT (Lead Zirconate Titanate) in order to perform newly developed Opto-Piezo modulation mechanism. More specifically, the instant variation of TiOPc impedance when illuminated with light beam patterns was introduced to provide spatial electric field distribution across PZT so as to provide spatial control of piezoelectric speakers. This real-time in-situ spatial impedance varying capabilities provided us with a platform to instantly control the acoustic characteristics such as frequency responses, sound beam directivity patterns, and sound field created, etc. of piezoelectric speakers. To characterize the solution and thin-film manufacturing process developed, the electrical impedance of TiOPc thin film was measured by Agilent 4294A Precision Impedance Analyzer. From the measured electrical impedance, the relationship between the thin-film processing parameters and the equivalent R-C value was retrieved by using the equivalent circuit model. The most appropriate parameters for the manufacturing processes developed were identified using the equivalent R-C values obtained. The low-frequency performance of the flat piezoelectric loudspeakers was measured and found to be poor due to the material selection and the corresponding structure design. Taking advantages of the characteristic of the photoelectric conductive material TiOPc, which demonstrated noticeable impedance change at low-mid range frequency (about 40~8000Hz), the low-frequency performance of the flat piezoelectric speakers was enhanced. A variety of illuminated pattern was tried and examined to control the acoustic beam patterns created. The experimental results confirmed the directivity controlling capability of acoustic pressure generated through external illuminated light patterns. Laser Displacement Meter and Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometer (ESPI) was implemented to perform the measurement in order to compare and verify the numerical and graphical analysis of the light beam illumination pattern induced flat piezoelectric speakers outside shape/form changes. The correlation between the analysis results and the measurement data confirms the feasibility of our optically modulated flat piezoelectric speakers.

In recent years, home medical detection monitoring system has gained the public’s attention due to population growth and aging. Traditional medical tests were mainly conducted in large-scale clinics located in urban areas. This geographic element reduced the elderly population’s willingness for the medical treatments. Those research hospitals with the test lab and equipment, along with the increase in the aging population become more crowded and obviously insufficient. This tendency worsens the situation and remains an obstacle because of lengthy testing schedule for the acute symptoms and persistent long-term physiological monitoring. In the past decades, the development and progress of digital microfluidics research in this field led to the rise of the concept of lab chip that increases the convenience of home testing and minimize the necessary instruments and equipment. Thus, the conducted testing and examination are gradually shifted from the large hospitals into home health part. However, the development of the laboratory Chip still faces several restrictions, such as the need to have a minute structure specimen transport, transfer, separation, screening, purification, detection. There still leaves room to be improved in this field on how to simplify the manufacturing process to make tiny test chip and how to increase detection efficiency and reusability. In this study, we fundamentally start from the basic theory of digital microfluidic, the electrowetting phenomena. The base structure of our device is built by inserting the photosensitive material TiOPc into the traditional structure of Electrowetting on Dielectric (EWOD). The photosensitive material comprehensively changes the view of controlling mechanism from presetting the microelectrode to optically tailor the influence of surface electrode. More specifically, the electrode in our platform can be both defined afterward and redefined dynamically due to its photosensitive properties and reversibility. This aspect improves the complex micro-channel structure in digital microfluidic device and manufacturing of operation electrodes. Meanwhile, the impedance matching of photosensitive and dielectric materials is considered in detail. It not only ensures the operation of device but promises to work diversely for two modes, optoelectrowetting and optoelectronic tweezers respectively by adopting specific operating frequency. The successful combination of the two modes can achieve transportation, merging, dilution and purification onto the droplet within the device. Moreover, the various responses to light intensity of different levels for photosensitive material are implemented to profile the surface of wettability gradient and construct the route for autonomous motion of droplet. Finally, we utilize the 3.5μm thickness of TiOPc as photosensitive layer, 1.2μm thickness of positive photoresist S1813 as dielectric layer, 30 nm thickness of Teflon as hydrophobic layer to complete the base structure. Our device is completely packaged by covering an upside ITO glass and injection of Dodecane (C12H26) as isolation oil. The experimental results show that the transportation speed of 3μl deionized water is up to 5 mm/s and the volume flow rate of the liquid is up to 10μl/s in our device. The identification of the relationship of light intensity and electrowetting phenomena gives an outlook to estimate the feasibility for construction of the optofluidic chip with potential autonomous manipulation of samples for home medical detection.

Taiwanese international trading volume relies on marine transportation roughly at 95%, national economic competence and global trading involvement is highly interrelated. Similar to global trend which marine transportation occupies around 80% of international trade, the phenomenon that logistics chain derived from marine port activities contributes city’s economy and national competitiveness can not be neglected. Taiwanese government integrated 4 original port authorities and formed Taiwan International Ports Corporation (TIPC) on March 1st, 2012. This innovative action is in line with international trend of divesting government control from enterprise function. This newly formed company also aims at increasing operational efficiency, strengthening international competitiveness and enhancing international visibility. This study is intend to examine whether if corporatization of port administration is able to differentiate from original bureaucratic frame and further execute efficient marketing strategy in order to achieve marketing target and optimize operating bottom-line. This study adopted case study methodology to compare TIPC and PSA International Pte Ltd (PSA) which has similar background and condition as Taiwan. The ultimate goal is to discover revelation from PSA’s operations and marketing strategy in order to provide suggestions to TIPC. This study went through literature review and case study methodology to analyse operation and marketing behaviors of both PSA and TIPC by mainly adopting Resource-based Theory, Competitive Advantage and Marketing Mix theory. Despite of TIPC’s ambition and the flexibility of corporatization, the result of this study leads to the fact that TIPC still suffers from constraints of resources integration and coordination among original port structure. In terms of operational strategy and marketing strategy design and execution, PSA’s perfomance drastically surpasses TIPC not only in its geographic advantage but also in service efficiency and overseas development. This result is regrettably in line with the fact that current TIPC performance is far away from their corporate target of being global outstanding port operational group.

We used a DC magnetron sputtering system in the study. The experiment was divided into two parts. In the first part, we deposited (Mg0.2Cu0.8)O, (Mg0.4Co0.6)O and ( Mg0.4Ni0.6)O on Cr0.78Ru0.22 alloy on heated substrate , and then sequentially deposited Mo40C60 and FePt. Let the underlying purpose of CrRu (200) peak intensity increased , FWHM angle decreased and improved vertical anisotropy of magnetic properties. The second part , TiC (60at%) - TiO (40at%) was deposited on Mo0.4C0.6 intermediate layer and then deposited on FePt. The aims to improve the interface energy between the FePt and Mo0.4C0.6 energy relationships, thereby improving island film structure. The first part was fixed FePt(10 nm)/Mo40C60(25 nm)/MgXO(5 nm)/CrRu(80 nm) of the film. The lattice constant of oxide (Mg0.2Cu0.8) O, (Mg0.4Co0.6)O and (Mg0.4Ni0.6)O thin film matched with Mo0.4C0.6 and CrRu film. Using Mo0.4C0.6/ (Mg0.2Cu0.8)O combined intermediate layers, the rocking width of FePt (001) and CrRu (200) diffraction peak were changed from 7.1o to 6.1o, and 5.7o to 3.8o, respectively. For MoC/MgCoO dual intermediate layers, the rocking width of FePt (001) and CrRu (200) diffraction peak were 6.7o and 4.1o. The FePt/ Mo0.4C0.6/(Mg0.4Co0.6)O film illustrates perpendicular magnetic anisotropy with out-of plane coercivity of 9.3 kOe which is higher than FePt film deposited on MoC layer (8.5 kOe) and the in-plane loops is linear. The second part was fixed FePt(10 nm)/TiO0.4C0.6(t nm) /Mo40C60(25 nm)/Cr0.78Ru0.22(80 nm)).The thin TiOC layer with smaller surface energy and lattice constant than MoC was inserted to modify the magnetic properties and microstructure of FePt films. Using TiOC/MoC combined intermediate layer, the rocking width of FePt (001) diffraction peak was changed from 7.1o to 6.2o, indicating that TiOC could achieve better epitaxial growth due to smaller lattice mismatch. It also illustrated perpendicular magnetic anisotropy with out-of plane coercivity of 11 kOe which is higher than FePt film deposited on MoC layer (8.5 kOe). For microstructure, the FePt grains size was further reduced with average grains of 4.7 nm.

A Study of the Relationship Among Job Satisfactions, Work Values, and Turnover Intention, Using TIPC Tugboat Crew as an Example. Student:Wen-Shan Lin Advisors:Dr. Hui-Chong Yeh Department of Business Administration National Kaohsiung University of Applied Sciences Abstract Vessel towing, handled by tugboats, is a labor-intensive, highly skilled service that is typically provided by ports. Thus, the crews of tugboats are critical human capital. The Taiwan International Ports Corporation (TIPC) was formed in 2012 in the reorganization of Taiwan’s four national Harbor Bureaus. The TIPC subsequently established a subsidiary company to handle port services in 2014. These and other major changes to port operations in Taiwan have negatively affected the general productivity of TIPC staffs and led to a higher than normal rate of staff turnover. The present study explores: the satisfaction with the current salaries and employment benefits of vessel crew who are former Harbor Bureau (government enterprise) employees; the perceived work values of recently hired (2014 and later) TIPC vessel crew; and the potential differences in turnover intention between these two groups. Survey questionnaires were sent to 150 TIPC-employed vessel crew, with 112 valid responses received. SPSS software was used for statistical analyses, with descriptive statistics, cross analysis, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis used to analyze the survey data. The results found a negative relationship between turnover intention and the dimensions of work satisfaction and work values. Further, both dimensions showed a significant effect on turnover intention. Moreover, the opportunity to transfer to a different job did not moderate either work satisfaction or turnover intention. In the present study, participants with 5 or less years of seniority, participants who earned a monthly salary of NT$35,000 or less, and participants who were single expressed lower satisfaction with their current job situation (particularly with regard to current salary, current benefits, and current leave allowances), higher turnover intention, and less perceived work satisfaction and professional challenge than their more-senior / better-paid peers. Therefore, the present study found positive relationships between annual income and, respectively, the dimensions of work satisfaction and work values. Furthermore, the work satisfaction of married staffs was significantly higher than the satisfaction of unmarried staffs. Key Words: tug boat, job satisfaction, work values, turnover intention, job transfer opportunity

The aim of this thesis is to investigate the job satisfaction of tugboat seafarers, and encourage marine companies of the port continuously carrying out their employees’ job satisfaction survey to discover potential industrial labor problems. Through solving the problem, the marine company can improve corporate labor management practices, increase work efficiency, and finally reduce employees’ turnover rate. There are two motivations behind this research: (1)After the corporatization of port authority in Taiwan in the early 2012, there is a salary gap between the employees hired before and after the corporatization of Taiwan International Port Corp.(TIPC) which might result in the discontent from the new recruit staffs, especially the tugboat staffs. (2)Seafarers work in the tugboat managed by TIPC are currently applied with The Seafarer Act to regulate their working hours which is worse than the working hours required by the Labour Standard Act, 2018. This study reviews relevant job satisfaction theories to find out measures to design the job satisfaction questionnaire for tugboat seafarers. The correlation between these seafarers' working conditions and their job satisfaction is for the first time investigated for TIPC Marine Corporation, Ltd. after it is incorporated. Descriptive statistics is collected via industry-wise questionnaire survey and are used to analyze relationship between these measurements and the job satisfaction of tugboat seafarers. This research has identified the top five measurement items with least degree of satisfaction from the tug boat seafarers’ survey. Three and two of the five measurements are related with salary and promotion respectively. The previous three salary related items are (1) amount of bonus after accomplishing extra assignment, (2)Degree of fairness on distributing performance bonus, and (3)Salary and rewards comparing with the other companies in the same industry. The latter two promotion-related measurements are (1)Promotion is open and clear, and (2)Promotion is majorly depended on the candidates’ working capability. If the TIPC Marine Corp. of the TIPC can invest extra resources on these five measurements, the overall degree of job satisfaction of its tugboat staffs should be able to be improved greatly.
