A retrospective study was performed to compare the prevalence of complications in peg-in-hole and end-to-end arthrodesis procedures. The authors reviewed 177 second, third, and fourth proximal interphalangeal joint fusions for the correction of hammer toe deformities in 85 patients from 1988 to 1998 at the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine. The average age of the patients was 49 years. Sixteen percent (14) of the subjects were male and 84% were (71) female. Upon follow-up, the fourth digit was generally associated with a greater number of complications for the end-to-end and peg-i

Abstract:
The Bolsheviks’ programme of creating “Renovationist Church” during the first years of Soviet Union was clearly aimed at destroying the Eurasian ideology of the former Russian Empire, according to which Orthodoxy was the main religious and political unifying force that guaranteed the unity of all nationalities living on its vast territory under the rule of an Orthodox sovereign. This programme also implied building “Heaven Kingdom” here, on the Earth. Imperial Eurasian ideology implied that the territory of Russian Empire was only a reflection of Heavenly Kingdom.

The main subject of this research is the tradition of visual representation of the luminosity of the divine nature in Western European Christian art of the IV-VIII centuries. The objects of study are fragments of monumental temple decorations containing images, both literal and symbolic, of this divine phenomenon, as well as written sources related to the interpretation of these images. The focus of the research is on the Western European artistic tradition of depicting the halo of Christ and its change during the period under review. In this essay on ancient architectural technologies, I propose to challenge the largely conventional idea of the transcendent origins of philosophy, that philosophy dawned only when the mind turned inside, away from the world grasped by the body and senses. By focusing on one premier episode in the history of western thinking – the emergence of Greek philosophical thought in the cosmic architecture of Anaximander of Miletus – I am arguing that the abstract, speculative, rationalising thinking characteristic of philosophy, is indeed rooted in practical activities, and emerges by means of them r

Do you wish to honour the Body of Christ? Do not ignore Him when he is naked. Do not pay homage in the temple clad in silk -- only then to neglect Him outside where He suffers cold and nakedness. Today when the celebration of the Eucharist in public is not allowed, the Paschal Mystery becomes all the more relevant for the cries and agony of Corona affected people. The Paschal Mystery is to be understood as the process of dying and rising, death and new life. If we look around, we see this occurrence all around us and in our own lives. The Paschal Mystery is not merely about our own salvation.

Yael Bartana, one of the most famous contemporary Israeli artists, explores the topic of shaping identity within the framework of contemporary policies to preserve the memory. When referring to the present, she does not forget about the past—the cultural heritage of her nation always underpins the presented film narratives. In her film Inferno (2013), the artist presents us with an evocative image, almost Hollywood-style in its framing and montage, of the future based on the myth of the Third Temple, which is important to the identity of the Jews. Moments before Euripides' Polyneices and Eteocles square off for their final, fatal battle in the Phoenissae, each prays for divine assistance (1359–76). Their prayers, though very brief, are by the standards of Greek drama rather formal. Polyneices, as Theban as his brother Eteocles, is leading a force of Argives against Thebes to recover the kingship he claims is rightfully his. As he prays he looks toward distant Argos and invokes ‘Lady Hera’, for, he says, ‘I am now yours, because I married Adrastus’ daughter and dwell in his land' (1364–6). He has left his homeland, married into an Argive
