The experimental data presented in this thesis demonstrates the preparation and characterization of TiO₂ polymorphs (anatase and TiO₂-(B)) in the form of nanomaterials. The reduced dimension of the nanomaterials amplifies the properties compared to the bulk TiO₂; however, this is often at the cost of the tapped density. The anatase nanomaterials with pseudo-spherical nanoparticles of 5 to 70 nm in size were synthesized and their volumetric capacities compared. The anodic films formed on CP-Ti in sulphuric and phosphoric acids using potentiodynamic polarization and potentiostatic anodizing were investigated. Single-barrier anodic films were created in sulphuric and phosphoric acids from 10 to 60 V. Oxygen evolution was initiated within both stages, leading to the suppression of current efficiency for the growth of anodic films. However, the pores are limited to a hexagonal arrangement with a domain size of a few micrometers.  In this dissertation, focused ion beam (FIB) is used to create pre-patterned concaves to guide the anodization. The decrease in thermal decomposition temperature led to the amorphization of RuO2, and nano RuO2 particles were uniformly dispersed in amorphous Ta2O5 matrix. Such nano particles induced the increase in effective surface area for oxygen evolution and change in rate determining step, resulting in a significant decrease in oxygen overpotential. The lap shear strength of chromic acid anodized, primed, Ti-6Al-4V alloy bonded with a high performance FM-5 polyimide adhesive has been investigated as a function of thermal treatment for selected times at various temperatures in air. The research findings indicate that the lap shear strength decreases with the increase in duration of the thermal treatment at constant temperature and with the increase in temperature at constant time. These conversion reactions occur at temperatures as low as 105 degrees Celsius, a much lower temperature than those required for reported solid-state reactions. The service life and electrocatalytic activity of tantalum oxide/iridium oxide coated titanium plate and mesh anodes used in the electrolytic production of chromic acid were investigated by performing accelerated life tests, voltammetric and chronoamperometric measurements in chrome (VI) solutions.
