Abstract:
Between text and image. The special nature of post-Yugoslav encyclopedic discourse Leksikon Yu mitologije, Bila jednom jedna zemlja. Titova JugoslavijaThe disintegration of Yugoslavia was not just the topic that permanently debuted in information services and on the front pages of newspapers, but also signifi cantly infl uenced on the formation of a new national culture, especially literature. The experience of the disintegration of the common state also brought the Yugo-nostalgia to post-Yugoslav cultures as a kind of sensitivity and attitude towards reality. Starting from the nineties of the twentieth century to the present time there are more and more new items that recall images of irretrievably lost homeland. Among them extremely interesting form of archiving past time are works that refer to the scientific and popular genres, such as dictionaries, reference books, manuals or guides and signifi cantly contribute to the transformation within post-Yugoslav encyclopedic discourse. In this text, I focused on two books — Leksikon Yu mitologije and Bila jednom jedna zemlja. Titova Jugoslavija by Željko Fajfrić, which attract attention of a reader to their extremely rich graphic design. They contain a lot of visual forms imaging: photographs of famous people, reproductions of movie or theatre posters, books, CDs and magazines covers, pictures of diff erent kind of equipment, packages and labels — not seen nowadays. They are not the typical book illustrations, but rather images that live beyond the “text world” and outside the structure of the book. In this article I looked at the role they play in these works, especially the relationship occurring between image and text.Između teksta i slike. O specifičnosti postjugoslovenskog enciklopedijskog diskursa Leksikon Yu mitologije, Bila jednom jedna zemlja.

Abstract:

Abstract:
This article shows that resistance and a critical discourse continue in the arts, especially in visual art, in Russia under the present political conditions when free speech has been seriously circumscribed. When in May 2012 Vladimir Putin was reinstalled as president with a new authoritarian conservative agenda, it was expected that the situation for culture would change. This article addresses the question of whether a critical discourse survived in the arts under the new conditions. It presents the new political context for the arts, and provides examples of various artistic strategies of resistance/protest in Russian contemporary art by applying Jacques Ranciere's concept of dissensus. The focus is on visual art, although references are also made to the world of theater. The first section presents the new official role given to culture and the new state cultural policy as components of a reactionary backlash against the reform policies under Mikhail Gorbachev and Boris Yeltsin, and describes conflicts around art and art productions that followed from the new state policy. A second section gives examples of dissensus in art today by presenting artworks by Piotr Pavlenskii, Arsenii Zhilyaev, Stas Shuripa, and Anna Titova.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The article is devoted to B. Lavrenyov’s story The Forty-First [Sorok perviy]. The author sets out to identify the prototypes of the main character, the White officer V. Govorukha-Otrok. Among these, she names a famous critic from the late 1800s, Y. Govorukha-Otrok. All previous studies of this story were limited to its general aspects, with only the works of B. Geronimus, and to some extent, E. Semyonova, N. Titova, and G. Ratmanova, touching on the subject. The article begins by analyzing the legends around the character, including those inspired by the ‘Cannes echo’ phenomenon: the artistic response of several writers to G. Chukhray’s film adaptation of the story. Bakhova proceeds to point out a close connection of The Forty-First with Lavrenyov’s other works, e. g. Wormwood Herb [Polyn’-trava], noting the latter’s polemical stance towards the ideology of the 1920s. In the latter story, Lavrenyov chooses to pursue an unconventional parallel with the epoch of The Tale of Igor’s Campaign [Slovo o polku Igoreve]. Finally, she points out the close affinity of The Forty-First with Russian folk tales. Consequently, she concludes that Lavrenyov’s inner defiance of certain postulates of the Bolshevik revolution and its newly-established culture is hardwired in the story.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT This paper aims to analyze the phenomenon of the translation of film titles from English to Italian and how the various translation techniques have evolved over the course of history, with an eye to the titles being unchanged from the original. For this purpose, a dedicated database has been created. It is composed of the 816 films awarded in the 92 editions of the Academy Awards, excluding all films in languages other than English, documentaries and short films of any kind. The analyzed sample is very diverse: it includes movies released from 1927 to 2019, belonging to 20 different film genres and, for the most part, adaptations from written works. The first chapter provides an overview of the history of Hollywood and the Academy Awards, followed by a description of how this world is perceived by Italian audiences. Secondly, the element of the film title and the techniques that can be used to translate it from English into Italian are presented. In addition, considerations are also made on the question of proper names and the film adaptation. Chapter two, on the other hand, describes the methodology for creating the title database and all the classifications that it is composed of: award categories, film genres, adaptation types and translation techniques from English to Italian. Lastly, chapter three focuses mainly on the six translation techniques (literal translation, translation with variations, new creation, unchanged title, title with subtitle and alternative title in English). Through the interpretation of graphs created using the collected data to analyze their distribution by genre and time, the last section undertakes an in-depth study of each translation technique.

Abstract:
The present study aimed to analyze the ecological aspects of Heteropsis spp. Kunth, titica vine, in an area submitted to forest management. The study was conducted at Tapajós National Forest (FLONA Tapajós), in two Work Units (UTs 3 and 15), of the Annual Production Unit (UPA 11). Each UT is divided into blocks of 250 m x 250 m, which are the sample units. For the inventory of titica vine host trees, a total of 14 blocks were performed in UT 3 (87.5 ha) and 19 blocks in UT 15 (118.75 ha). The parameters recorded were: diameter at 1.30 m of soil (DBH), total height (Ht), stem quality (QF1 - straight, QF2 - slightly tortuous, QF3 - tortuous), regional name and geographical coordinates. The mature and immature aerial roots of titica vine were counted. The mature roots were collected and the mass measured, in kilograms, per host tree. After the collection was finished, the bark was removed from the roots and the mass was gauged in order to obtain the yield of the raw material. All host trees were counted and grouped according to their botanical families. Density of host trees in different DBH and Ht class centers was related. The titica vine production was determined by the root count (mature and immature) present in each host and by the mass of the mature roots. The ratio of DBH and Ht of host trees was determined with the mass of mature roots with bark, considering 15 trees of different sizes of diameter and height, per class of DBH and Ht, which were classified into three size classes: small (10 cm ≤ DBH <40 cm and 5 m ≤ Ht <15 m), medium (40 cm ≤ DBH <70 cm and 15 m ≤ Ht <25 m) and large (DBH ≥ 70 cm and Ht ≥ 25 m ). It was evaluated as to the difference in the amount of titica vine, in kilograms, in each type of stem. The Pearson correlation (r) was used to infer about the host tree variable that most influences the production of titica vine, in order to use it in the fitting of mathematical models to estimate its production. Five mathematical models were adjusted using CurveExpert Professional version 2.6.5, in which the criteria for choosing the best model were: adjusted coefficient of determination in percentage (R²aj%), standard error in percentage (Sy.x%) and residual graphical distribution. The spatial distribution of titica vine was made based on the Ripley K function using R version 3.1.2. A total of 337 host trees for titica vine were identified and measured, with a mean density of 1.65 tree-1, distributed in 88 species belonging to 35 families. Trees with DBH < 30 cm are the ones that host more titica vine plants (p-value = 9.9488 x 10-8). Trees with 10 m ≤ Ht <15 m host more titica vine plants, when compared to Ht trees ≥ 25 m (p-value = 0.0059). Trees with higher DBH and Ht are the ones with the highest amount of titica vine roots. No difference was observed in the production of titica vine mature roots, expressed in kilograms, in the different categories of stem quality (p-value = 0.160). The individuals of titica vine showed 585 roots.ha-1, leading to an average yield of 2.1 kg.ha-1 of titica vine with bark, after moisture loss and bark removal the production declined to 0.6 kg .ha-1. The density of host trees was the variable that presented the highest Pearson correlation (r = 0.88). The simple linear equation was the one that presented the best results to estimate the production of roots with bark, with R²aj% = 96.03, Sy.x% = 24.50 and the graphical distribution of the residues behaved uniformly around the axes of the abscissa. The spatial distribution of the titica vine tends to be aggregated.

Abstract:
This chapter details Marshal Tito's great African tour, accompanied by numerous state officials aboard his 4,000-ton cruiser Galeb in February 1961. It describes Tito's expedition as a political adventure that only he was capable of and where he showed ambition to become the major player in Africa to rival Western interests. It also recounts how Tito maintained equidistance between the big powers and modified the centralized economy with some limited competition between state-owned companies. The chapter recounts Tito's receipt of huge amounts of money from the West for breaking the monolith of world communism. It mentions Dr Kwame Nkrumah, a professor of philosophy who welcomed Tito in Accra, the capital of the newly independent country of Ghana.

Abstract:
This chapter introduces Marshal Tito, who was born and raised in the Croatian village of Kumrovec and joined the Communist Party of Yugoslavia (CPY) as a worker in Kraljevica Shipyard in 1925. It describes Tito's personal history as a closely guarded secret, noting that the state he ruled while he was in power took care of it. It also tells Tito's story as a cryptic man who emerged from the Balkan mists and became one of the key protagonists of the modern history of Europe and the world. The chapter recounts Tito's earliest years in the village of Podsreda in Slovenia, on the fief of the Austrian princely family Windisch-Graetz. It cites Tito's time in Slovenia with his grandfather as his most cherished childhood memory.

Abstract:
This chapter highlights the Fifth Land Conference in 1940, which, after the Eighth Zagreb Conference, was the next pivotal moment in Marshal Tito's political career. It explores the question of whether the Communist Party of Yugoslavia (CPY) could finally hold a congress, like any other exotic communist party in the far corners of the world. It also looks at Tito's intention to merge the Communist Party of Slovenia, the Communist Party of Croatia, and the CPY due to his own political motives and unlimited ambitions. The chapter mentions Franz Honner who founded the underground Austrian Communist Party in 1940 after meeting Tito in Split. It elaborates how Tito would go on to retain a substantial influence on the Italian party and politics for the rest of his life.

Abstract:
This chapter talks about Marshal Tito's return to Moscow in early 1935 after having successfully carried out the missions in Vienna and Ljubljana. It recounts Tito's arrival in the Soviet Union in February 1935, after having been co-opted in the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Yugoslavia (CPY) and elected to the Politburo. It also analyzes Tito's work in the special “cadre department” of the Communist International (KI), which belonged to the Soviet intelligence apparatus. The chapter describes Tito as a military-trained cadre, a specialist in secret agent activities, organizing secretary, and underground activist. It looks at the structure of the apparatus and communist parties of the Comintern, which are considered as a visible political manifestation.

Abstract:
This chapter recounts the raid in Drvar, which was the final attempt to use military means to eliminate the Partisan movement and Marshall Tito's Supreme Command. It analyzes the supposed outcome of the Anglo-American units entering Yugoslavia in accordance with the plan for landings on Krk and in Rijeka, if the German paratroops succeeded in eliminating Tito. It also describes Tito's liberated territory on the island of Vis which offered a neutral ground and ideal conditions for special warfare. The chapter talks about intelligence operatives in the Balkans that were more important than Russian tank armies or a US strategic air force. It refers to Moscow-trained Yugoslav technocrats of the dictatorship of the proletariat and brigand captains that were disciplined and organized by Tito in order to carry out feats on a European scale.

Abstract:
This chapter mentions Field Marshal Alexander, Supreme Allied commander of the Mediterranean Theater of Operations, who was sent by Winston Churchill to find out Marshal Tito's intentions in Italy. It details how Tito showed Alexander the dispositions on the stationary Stem Front while concealing his far-reaching initiative on both sides of the Adriatic. It also explains Alexander's requirement for a land corridor for advancing from Trieste to Vienna, suggesting Anglo-American occupation of all the areas west of the Italian–Yugoslav prewar border. The chapter analyzes Tito's offer that Churchill's army may use the Ljubljana Gate passing across Yugoslav territory, but in return he wanted his own occupation zone in Austria. It describes Tito as someone who was hard to out-bluff as he was never impressed with force unless an imminent threat was involved.

Abstract:
This chapter talks about Marshal Tito's encounter with Jewish painter and journalist Moša Pijade in the penitentiary in Maribor where he was sent to serve his jail term. It recounts how Pijade would become Tito's most reliable man and his most capable administrator, marking the beginning of the famous Tito-style cadre selection. It also highlights Tito's creation of his own apparatus within the apparatus, a secret group of henchmen within the global communist empire. The chapter elaborates Pijade's role as a consigliere, who carried out the most delicate missions, such as politically liquidating rivals and commanding troops and entire provinces in wartime. Pijade wrote the Yugoslav Constitution, led the highest-ranking diplomatic delegations, and was the deputy chairman of the Presidium of the Federal Assembly.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
This research project sits at the intersection of Community Music, Ethnomusicology and Arts Practice Research. The overall aim to explore a more ecological way of being in the world in which sound rather than vision is the primary source of knowledge. This acoustic epistemology (coined ‘acoustemology’ by ethnomusicologist Steven Feld) differs from standard ocular-centric epistemology in several respects. Where vision distinguishes objects as fixed and separate from the perceiving subject, sound is intensely relational. For sociologist Jean-Paul Thibaud, attending to sound produces “a resonant body that gets in tune and in sync with his environment.” (Thibaud, 2018) Sound does not belong to any object, but is a production of the interaction of objects, or “the event of the thing, not the thing itself.” (Connor, 2004, p.157) This form of knowing is familiar to musicians who interact in ensemble situations, but I wish to broaden the application of the idea, following ethnomusicologist Jeff Todd Titon, who imagines a “sound community” which, in concord with the qualities of sound, is “just, participatory and egalitarian.” (Titon, 2015, p.25)
