Abstract:
Abstract This paper provides a systematic description of the kinship system of Tiwa, a Boro-Garo language of northeast India. It complements existing partial descriptions by Ramirez (2014) and Bouchery and Longmailai (2018), including documentation of affinal relationship terminology and kinship-based politeness strategies. A key new finding of this work is that Tiwa has a series of dyadic group kin terms which behave in similar (though not identical) ways to what Bradley (2001) identifies as family group classifiers in several Ngwi languages. To my knowledge, this is the first time such dyadic kin terms have been identified beyond the Ngwi and Ersuic branches, suggesting they may be more widespread throughout the Tibeto-Burman family than previously believed.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Tiwa (Tibeto-Burman; India) has two series of epistemic indefinites: one whoseepistemic effects arise via an anti-singleton constraint similar to Spanish alg´un (Alonso-Ovalleand Men´endez-Benito, 2010), and another, wide-scope indefinite whose epistemic effects mustbe derived differently. I propose that for these latter indefinites, ignorance arises not throughdomain constraints, but as a result of their choice functional nature through competition withother indefinites. Tiwa’s wide scope indefinites then constitute a new kind of epistemic indefinite, showing that ignorance implicatures for indefinites can arise through different sorts ofcompetition. Keywords: epistemic indefinites, wide scope indefinites, choice functions, implicature, Tiwa.

Abstract:
Tiwa (Tibeto-Burman; India) has two disjunctive particles, which give rise to different interpretations in sentences with other operators. I argue that this semantic distinction is not one of inclusive vs. exclusive disjunction, but one of scope. I provide an analysis that captures this scopal distinction: one particle lexicalizes a choice function variable (subject to existential closure high in the structure), and the other lexicalizes an alternative-set former which interacts with higher operators. I also show that wide scope disjunction in Tiwa behaves differently from wide scope readings of English "or", and suggest that they warrant different analyses.

Abstract:
The forced marriage and the arranged marriages theme currently become popular in literary works on millennial applications. The facility and privilege of the internet were virtual spaces that were not only a provider of reading materials but also a place for literary production itself such as Wattpad. My Lecturer My Husband, one of the famous Wattpad novels published in 2017, was the work of a Korean boyband fan from Indonesia named Gitlicious (pen name) who idolizes a Korean artist named Lay from the Exo group. In 2020, My Lecturer My Husband was adapted by a well-known producer, Monty Tiwa, into a web series that identified forms of female resistance and the negotiation process of men in forced marriage. Thus, this study aims to analyze forced marriage that reconstructs the negative stigma in Monty Tiwa's adaptation of Gitlicious’s My Lecturer My Husband. This study used the adaptation theory proposed by Linda Hutcheon (2006). To dismantle the ideology of the text, this research used the theory of Butler(1990), which was about the diversity of gender and sexuality expressions. From the results of the analysis, it was found that My Lecturer My Husband reflects the shift in the value of forced marriage contextually and commercially. Ideologically, the text adaptation of Monty Tiwa shows a shift in the stigma of forced marriage attached to the role of parents and a shift in the expression of husband and wife in forced marriage.

Abstract:
This article offers a brief historical and theoretical overview of found footage films and their contribution to the horror genre, and focuses in more detail on four Southeast Asian productions of the kind made between 2009-2012: Keramat/Sacred (Servia & Tiwa, 2009), Seru/Resurrection (Asraff, Pillai, Andre & Jin 2011), Haunted Changi (Kern, Woo & Lau, 2010), and Darkest Night (Tan, 2012), all of which can be viewed as an alternative to the mainstream local horror cinema. The paper argues that the two most common strategies used by found footage horror films (including the four films in question) are the techniques that effectively authenticate the horror experience: inducing a heightened perception of realism in the audience and a contradictory to it feeling of perceptive subjectivity.

Abstract The Bodo-Garo group of languages consisting of Kāchārī or Bodo, Lālung (autonym Tiwa), Dīmā-sā, Gārō, Koch, Rābhā, Tipurā (autonym Kokborok), Chutiyā (autonym Deori) and Morān (Grierson 1903) are mainly spoken by about four million people in north-east India.1 BG exhibit systematic processes of formation of causative verbs through prefixation, suffixation and very rarely, infixation. Lexical causative verbs are also employed in these languages whereas periphrastic causatives are found in the form of verb stacking. This study aims at finding out the causative prefixes which co-occur with the root verbs to form their causative counterparts; categorizing the prefixes in terms of their occurrences with certain roots; and, analyzing the environments and linguistic conditioning of the occurrences of the prefixes. This study also discusses several syntactic and semantic features associated with causation.

Abstract:
This paper investigates the material construction of Pueblo cosmology in the northern Rio Grande during and following the emergence of large aggregated villages at the end of the thirteenth century A.D. My central claim is that villages and the landscapes that surrounded them were mutually constitutive and need to be viewed holistically as components of integrated villagescapes that linked the dwellings of the living to the dwellings of ancestral spirits, and the social order of the village to the spatial order of the cosmos. "Village aggregation," in this sense, emerges as a misnomer given the radical geographic extension of ritual practice and constructed space that went hand-in-hand with residential agglomeration. I begin by synthesizing ethnographic evidence of Tewa and Northern Tiwa sacred geographies, paying close attention to the distribution and interpretation of archaeologically visible shrine features. I then use this ethnographic understanding as a basis for interpreting the archaeological evidence of the extensive complex of shrine features surrounding T'aitöna (Pot Creek Pueblo), one of the northern Rio Grande's earliest large villages.

Abstract:
The feminism movement in the field of classical literature in Bali is known to rise after a female au- thor struggling from the Dutch intervention. This female figure was Ida I Dewa Agung Istri Kania. She had compiled several literary works through her criticism and “lango”, either herself or accompanied by her pupils. The forms of her works are kakawin, kidung, geguritan, and tutur. The most popular work is Kakawin Pralambang Bhasa Wewatekan. This Kakawin tells about death body burning cere- mony (Patiwa-tiwa and Baligya). It describes the entrance of Dutch into Bali and the struggle to fight against in Kusamba, Klungkung. There is also a story concerning the memorandum of understanding between Klungkung, Gianyar, Bangli, and Payangan. These stories come along with several other sto- ries behind some factual events made in Kusamba, Sweta Lombok, Tabanan, as well as in Klungkung. It is very interesting that the phenomenal Ida I Dewa Agung Istri Kania is analyzed on the sociology of literature viewpoint. It is supposed to have significance for the younger and future generations, at least in Bali. The Balinese society must be proud of having their own hero, King, who is an author of the classical works. She is a mirror, figure to take as an example of nobleness for the nation, particularly the younger female generations.

One path lies through erudition, the other through the indigenous experience. While the history of Jung's ideas has been thoroughly explored, we understand little about his encounters with indigenous people in the American Southwest. For example, the literature on his visit to Taos Pueblo is riddled with misleading information. Part of the problem begins with Jung's own confusion regarding his contact at Taos with Antonio Mirabal. Not only did Jung wrongly believe that Mirabal was an ‘Indian chief’; he misspelled and mistranslated his Tiwa name, Ochwiay Biano. Although the encounter could be described (at one level) as superficial, Jung refers to it as one of the most important experiences of his life. This paper will explore what Jung seems to have encountered in Taos, and the ways his experience were orchestrated by the unseen presence of others (including Mabel Dodge Lujan, D.H. Lawrence, and Jaime de Angulo). Archival records and news accounts from the 1920s show that although Jung imagined he was meeting face to face with a ‘primitive' who still lived in the world of ‘participation mystique’, Mirabal was a gifted Native American impresario who later visited one American president and turned down an invitation to visit a second. I argue that the complex of colonialism surrounding Jung's relationship with Mirabal has infected subsequent encounters between the Jungian tradition and indigenous people.

Abstract:
The term 'inverse' has traditionally referred to voice systems characterized by alternations of verbal voice marking, alternations that depend on the relative ontologicai salience of the two core arguments of a transitive animate verb, the logical subject and logical object. In typical inverse languages, speech-act participant (SAP) arguments (1,2 person) ontologically outrank non-SAP arguments (3d person), a fact that is grammatically encoded by 1:3 and 2:3 predications assigning one verbal voice ('direct') while 3:1 and 3:2 predications assign the other voice ('inverse'). 3:3 predications are potentially ambiguous, a problem addressed in some inverse systems by 3d person arguments with relatively low ontologicai salience being assigned a special case, the obviative (4th person). The present work addresses the question whether inverseness may be evinced through formal means other than alternations in verbal voice marking. It is argued that this occurs in a Tanoan (Kiowa-Tanoan) language, Arizona Tewa (AT). In AT transitive animate predications, an opposition in paradigms of person-marking verbal prefixes occurs such that one pronominal paradigm is assigned in case of a direct predication (logical subject ontologically outranks logical object), while the other paradigm is assigned in case of an inverse predication (logical object ontologically outranks logical subject). In effect, then, AT has separate direct and inverse pronominal paradigms; these encode the voice alternations, rather than oppositions of verbal voice marking per se. It is argued that an inverse analysis is both appropriate for AT and, in addition, applicable to at least some other Tanoan languages, such as Picurís and Southern Tiwa.

Abstract:
The problem raised in this paper is as follows: how is the origin of Woe Jawa (Javanese) in Beiwali Village, Bajawa District, Ngada Regency, NTT. The purpose of writing is to describe the history of Woe Jawa (Javanese) in Beiwali Village, Bajawa District, Ngada Regency, NTT. The research method used is qualitative research. Data collection techniques are interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis techniques are as follows: data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results show that the historical traces of Woe Jawa (Javanese) in Beiwali Village, Bajawa District, Ngada Regency, NTT are told on a long journey from their ancestral land, woe Jawa (Javanese) came from the Back Indies (Yunan). At that time it was estimated that the ancestors of Woe Jawa (Javanese) were pressured by other tribes so that they looked for a better life. On the way, they broke through the wilderness and crossed the ocean and stopped at several places before entering the island of Flores, the land of Ngada, among others: Sumatra, Java in the land of Java, the ancestors of the Javanese woe lived a long time and had children and grandchildren and then migrated to Sumbawa. then they go to Wio (Sumba) in Sumba they live sedentary for a while then they go to tiwa lina (calm and shady beach) Aimere beach (wae mokel) Flores Island, when the wae mokel river overflows the ancestors of woe Jawa (Javanese) moved to the east settled in Bo Jawa Meze (location of Aimere) and then they moved to Tana Dua (fertile land). The fertile land in question is the land of Ngada.

Abstract:
Nitride and carbide ternary coatings improve the wear and corrosion resistance of carbon steel substrates. In this work, Ti-W-N and Ti-W-C coatings were deposited on AISI 1060 steel substrates using reactive radio frequency (RF) magnetron sputtering. The coatings were designed as monolayers, bilayers, and multilayers of 40 periods. The coatings were obtained with simultaneous sputtering of Ti and W targets. The microstructure, composition, and electrochemical properties were investigated by techniques such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and potentiodynamic polarization. XRD results shower a mix of binary TiN and W2N structures in the Ti-W-N layer, a ternary phase in Ti-W-C layers, in addition of a quaternary phase of Ti-W-CN in the multilayers. The analysis of the XPS demonstrated that the atomic concentration of Ti was more significant than W in the Ti-W-N and Ti-W-C layers. The lowest corrosion rate (0.19 mm/year−1) and highest impedance (~10 kΩ·cm2) out of all coatings were found in n = 40 bilayers. In the simulation of equivalent electrical circuits, it was found that the Ti-W-N coating presented three processes of impedance (Pore resistance + Coating + Inductance). However, the multilayer (n = 40) system presented a major dielectric constant through the electrolyte adsorption; therefore, this caused an increase in the capacitance of the coating.

Speaking from within a time of economic crisis, It’s a Beautiful Thing, the Destruction of Wor(l)ds investigates how scholarly activities reflect activist identities and the affect of experiencing social change in the Greek crisis. In Dear TINA, we write through and about workplaces: correctional institutions and higher education, and their effects on our ways of knowing. These two performance lectures by Ministry of Untold Stories offer a working through of ontological uncertainty, precarity, and risk. We propose that if scholarship is to offer resistance to “there is no alternative,” then there must be a methodological revolution.

Abstract:
Abstract. The Green Ocean Amazon experiment – GoAmazon 2014–2015 – explored the interactions between natural biogenic forest emissions from central Amazonia and urban air pollution from Manaus. Previous GoAmazon 2014–2015 studies showed that nitrogen oxide (NOx = NO + NO2) and sulfur oxide (SOx) emissions from Manaus strongly interact with biogenic volatile organic compounds (BVOCs), affecting secondary organic aerosol (SOA) formation. In previous studies, ground-based and aircraft measurements provided evidence of SOA formation and strong changes in aerosol composition and properties. Aerosol optical properties also evolve, and their impacts on the Amazonian ecosystem can be significant. As particles age, some processes, such as SOA production, black carbon (BC) deposition, particle growth and the BC lensing effect change the aerosol optical properties, affecting the solar radiation flux at the surface. This study analyzes data and models SOA formation using the Weather Research and Forecasting with Chemistry (WRF-Chem) model to assess the spatial variability in aerosol optical properties as the Manaus plumes interact with the natural atmosphere. The following aerosol optical properties are investigated: single scattering albedo (SSA), asymmetry parameter (gaer), absorption Ångström exponent (AAE) and scattering Ångström exponent (SAE). These simulations were validated using ground-based measurements at three experimental sites, namely the Amazon Tall Tower Observatory – ATTO (T0a), downtown Manaus (T1), Tiwa Hotel (T2) and Manacapuru (T3), as well as the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Gulfstream 1 (G-1) aircraft flights. WRF-Chem simulations were performed over 7 d during March 2014. Results show a mean biogenic SOA (BSOA) mass enrichment of 512 % at the T1 site, 450 % in regions downwind of Manaus, such as the T3 site, and 850 % in areas north of the T3 site in simulations with anthropogenic emissions. The SOA formation is rather fast, with about 80 % of the SOA mass produced in 3–4 h. Comparing the plume from simulations with and without anthropogenic emissions, SSA shows a downwind reduction of approximately 10 %, 11 % and 6 % at the T1, T2 and T3 sites, respectively. Other regions, such as those further downwind of the T3 site, are also affected. The gaer values increased from 0.62 to 0.74 at the T1 site and from 0.67 to 0.72 at the T3 site when anthropogenic emissions are active. During the Manaus plume-aging process, a plume tracking analysis shows an increase in SSA from 0.91 close to Manaus to 0.98 160 km downwind of Manaus as a result of SOA production and BC deposition.
