Abstract:
Numeric hydrologic models can aid in water resource management by providing predictive simulations of water behavior. As computers become more advanced, the models developed also become more complex using more data to represent larger areas for forecasting hydrologic behavior. Unfortunately, as the simulations use more data, the output often becomes difficult to manage and share without investing time and effort into setting up server environments or decreasing the quality of the output to compensate for an efficient and effective user experience. A proposed solution to facilitate the accessibility of massive hydrologic model output is through the web-based visualization tool developed at Carnegie Mellon University called Time Machine. For a more efficient and automated workflow, a Python tool named TMAPS was developed from this research for rendering hydrologic model results, geoprocessing the rendered output, and generating Time Machines seamlessly. The tool can be installed from the CI-WATER GitHub repository and allows the user to 1) select the output parameters and visualization settings desired to be rendered, 2) run the code on a local or HPC setup, and 3) use a web browser interface to view the tiled transient results seamlessly while maintaining high quality. Currently, the only hydrologic model supported is ADHydro - a large-scale high-resolution multi-physics watershed simulation. In an effort to facilitate organizing the library of Time Machine products, an app was created through Tethys - a server-based Django application designed to aid in the development and sharing of water resource engineering apps.

Applications that use TMATS benefit from the ability to presume that the TMATS data is well constructed. This need is met by a TMATS validator. Some classified systems need source code rather than an executable to avoid expensive testing before being allowed in. An Open Source Validator is proposed, presented and made available to the public. Major points and difficulties are discussed. XML is a simple, powerful way to agree on data transfers between organizations, applications and/or computer systems. XML was originally developed to separate data content definition from the display of data on a web page. XML is based on a subset of the Standardized General Markup Language (SGML), which means XML uses a tag-based syntax similar to Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML). Whereas HTML uses fixed tags to display data, XML uses custom designed tags to describe data. XML provides a simple, standard, portable, and flexible way to transfer data between applications. This could provide a useful way to transfer telemetry attributes data between customers and systems. Currently, there is not a significant amount of support for the use of the Telemetry Attributes Transfer Standard (TMATS). Telemetry vendors still use their own formats, customers maintain their own databases, and support facilities/ranges promote the use of their own implementations. TMATS was supposed to define a common ground to transfer data definitions, but the tools to TMATS have not come about. TMATS is a well defined, structured specification that maps into XML extremely well. Even though XML is a fairly new technology, there are already many tools available to support XML parsing with more becoming available. This makes XML an excellent choice to supplement TMATS for the interchange of telemetry attribute information. This paper provides an initial attempt at defining the language and structure for an XML vocabulary of TMATS.

Abstract:
Today there are many system development projects that break both budget and time plan. Often this depends on defects in the information systems that could have been prevented. The cost of test can in some cases be as high as 50 % of the projects total cost and it's at the same time an important part of development. Test as such has moved its focus from the software it self and its faults to a wider perspective on whole infrastructures of information systems where assure a good quality is important. Sogeti in the Netherlands have developed a test method called TMap (Test Management approach) that can be used for structured testing of information systems. TMap haven't been used as much as desired in the office in Borlänge. Because Microsoft is releasing a new version of their platform Visual Studio Team System (VSTS 2010) some colleges at Sogeti in the Netherlands are about to develop a template that can support the use of TMap in VSTS 2010. When we write this the template is still in development. The goal for Sogeti was to find out the differences between the test functionality in VSTS 2008 and 2010. By using the purpose with this essay, which was to analyze the test process in VSTS 2008 with TMap against the test process in VSTS 2010 together with the template we got much help to achieve the goal. The analysis was done with four different aspects: The TPI and TMMi models, problem and strength analyses and a few question formulations. The TPI and TMMi models where used to analyses and evaluate the test process. The analysis showed that there were differences between the both test processes. VSTS 2010 together with the template gave a better support to use TMap and perform test. In VSTS 2010 the test tool Camano is connected to TFS and the tool is also to make the execution and logging of tests easier. This leads to a test process that is easier to handle and has a better support for TMap.

Previously, we have presented an approach to achieving standards-based multi-vendor hardware configuration using the Instrumentation Hardware Abstraction Language (IHAL) and an associated Application Programming Interface (API) specification. In this paper, we extend this approach to include support for configuring PCM formats. This capability is an appropriate fit for IHAL since changes to hardware settings can affect the current telemetry format and vice versa. We describe extensions made to the IHAL API in order to support this capability. Additionally, we show how complete instrumentation configurations can be described using an integrated IHAL and TMATS XML. Finally, we describe a demonstration of this capability implemented for data acquisition hardware produced by L-3 Telemetry East.

The Inter-Range Instrumentation Group (IRIG) introduced the Telemetry Attributes Transfer Standard (TMATS) in IRIG 106-93. This long needed standardization was designed to provide a common thread through which test programs could move from one test range to another without significant re-work in the setup environment. TMATS provides the definition of telemetry attributes and specifies the media and data format necessary to permit the ready transfer of the information required to setup telemetry receiving/processing functions at a test range. These attributes are defined as those parameters required by the receiving/processing system to acquire, process and display telemetry data received from a test item or source. As the telemetry vendor community develops more and more board level products designed to be integrated into various platforms such as Personal Computer (PC), VME, and VXI, the necessity of providing a setup environment, which is independent of a specific vendor product, becomes essential. An significant advantage of TMATS lies in its ability to provide a mechanism for setup of "multiple vendor systems" without the necessity of restructuring telemetry attribute information for each unique vendor's product. This paper describes the use of TMATS for the setup of a VXI based telemetry acquisition system containing board level products (including Antenna Control Units, RF Receivers, Combiners, Bit Synchronizers, PCM Decommutators, and PCM Simulators) from multiple vendors.

XML is a simple and powerful way to handle on data transfers between organizations, applications and/or computer systems. Currently, there is a significant effort within NASA to transition to XML vocabularies as the means of exchanging electronic data. XML can provide a useful way to transfer telemetry attributes data between customers and systems. The current standard for airborne telemetry data description is the Telemetry Attributes Transfer Standard (TMATS). TMATS is a well-defined, structured specification that will map into XML extremely well. This makes XML an excellent choice to supplement TMATS for the interchange of telemetry attribute information. The Western Aeronautical Test Range (WATR) at NASA Dryden Flight Research Center (DFRC) is defining an XML Schema that will be used in support of the WATR Integrated Next Generation System (WINGS). This paper describes this work in progress.

As stated in IRIG 106-93/96/99/00, the purpose of the Telemetry Attributes Transfer Standard (TMATS) is; “... provides a common format for the transfer of information between the user and a test range or between ranges. This format will minimize the 'station unique' activities that are necessary to support any test item. In addition, it is intended to relieve the labor intensive process currently required to reformat the information by providing the information on computer compatible media, thus reducing errors and requiring less preparation time for test support.” However, it is well known that TMATS does not support “Instrumentation” data. Also, TMATS does not include many current data conversion formats, or have a way to easily include new formats as they are adopted. We believe that such changes will help TMATS reach its full potential and become more closely aligned with its stated objectives. It is the hope of the authors that this paper will generate support for IRIG to revise TMATS to include these important amendments.

The requirement for lighter, safer and fuel efficient cars has created a major stir in the steel research society to develop advanced automotive steels. Since there is a trade off between strength and ductility, most of the conventional high strength steels do not address the strength-formability combination. With the realization of the TRIP phenomenon first in austenitic stainless steels, a new generation of advanced steels called TRIP steels were realised with an inexpensive and easier to process C-Mn-Si chemistry. TRIP or TRransformation Induced Plasticity is a phenomenon where the timely strain induced transformation of Retained Austenite (RA) to Martensite locally strengthens the steel at the point of plastic instability, causing failure by necking to be postponed and shifted elsewhere along the steel. This phenomenon repeated over and over again allows increased levels of strength and ductility, prior to fracture.
In current TRIP grades, the retained austenite particles present have to posses certain characteristics such as, optimum carbon concentration, optimum grain size and morphology etc. in order to account toward mechanical properties. Such limiting characteristics in turn minimize the processing window and make TRIP processing expensive and difficult to control. In this work, it is suggested that Tempered Martensite Assisted Steels (TMAS) obtained from TRIP steels via subcritical annealing of cold rolled TRIP steels may potentially replace TRIP steels. Relationship between the retained austenite volume fractions and mechanical properties was developed for TRIP steels. The effect of variation of retained austenite on tempered martensite volume fraction in TMAS, which in turn affect the mechanical properties was also investigated in depth. Results indicate that tempered martensite particles in TMAS do not have any limiting factors as in the case of RA in TRIP steels, in order to contribute toward enhancement of mechanical properties. Results also indicate that TMAS offers better strength levels compared to TRIP steels for same the level of formability.
Retained austenite volume fractions in TRIP steels were measured through XRD. Cold rolling of the samples was done in a laboratory scale rolling machine. The microstructures were analysed using conventional and color etching techniques. A new color etching technique for viewing all the four major phases in TRIP steel was developed in this work. The mechanical properties of both TRIP and TMAS were assessed by shear punch testing. And finally, the relationship between tempered martensite volume fraction and TMAS properties was developed and was compared to TRIP properties.

The Test and Training Enabling Architecture (TENA) is implemented within the TENA Software Decommutation System (TSDS) in order to bring TENA as close as possible to the sensor interface. Key attributes of TSDS include: • TSDS is a software-based approach to telemetry stream decommutation implemented within Java. This offers technical advantages such as platform independence and portability. • TSDS uses auto code generation technologies to further reduce the effort associated with updating decommutation systems to support new telemetry stream definitions. Users of TSDS within the range are not required to have detailed knowledge of proprietary protocols, nor are they required to have an understanding of how to implement decommutation within software. The use of code generation in software decommutation offers potential cost savings throughout the entire T&E community. • TSDA offers a native TENA interface so that telemetry data can be published directly into TENA object models.

Diplomová práce zkoumá možnosti využití XSLT 2.0 při zpracování Topic Maps. Cílem je popsat výhody spojení XSLT a Topic Maps v prostředí webu. Popsány jsou všechny související technologie, zejména: TMAPI, XSLT, XPath a XML formát pro uložení map témat XTM. Pro ověření možností je vytvořeno rozhraní v XSLT 2.0, které je obdobou TMAPI rozhraní. Zároveň je vytvořena ukázková šablona využívající toto rozhraní, která umožňuje převod XTM do HTML. Zjištěno bylo, že spojení těchto technologií je pro prostředí webu vhodné.

It is anticipated that XML will heavily dominate the next generation of telemetry systems. The syntax of XML-based languages can be constrained by a schema that describes the structure of valid documents. However, the schemas cannot express all dependencies between XML elements and attributes, both within a single document and across multiple documents. This prohibits the XML validation process from being fully automated with standard schema processors. This paper presents an approach that is based on the W3C Semantic Web technologies and allows different vendors and system integrators to independently develop their own semantic validation rules. The rules are equipped with powerful semantics, which allows for specification and validation of complex types of constraints. The approach is not specific to a particular T&E standard and is entirely standards-based.

In this paper we describe the current status of the IHAL standard. Since the first introduction of IHAL at ITC 2006, the language has undergone a number of additions and improvements. Currently, IHAL is nearing the end of a 2-year standardization task with the Range Commanders Council Telemetry Group (RCC TG). This paper describes the standardization process in addition to providing an overview of the current state of IHAL. The standard consists of two key components: (1) the IHAL language, and (2), the IHAL API specification.

For the last 30 years Magnetic Tape Systems have been the primary means of recording data from airborne instrumentation systems. Increasing data rates and harsh environmental requirements have often exceeded the ability of tape-based systems to keep pace with platform technology. This paper examines operational and data reduction benefits when employing the IRIG 106 Chapter 10 Solid State Recorder Standard introduced by the Range Commanders Council (RCC) Telemetry Group (TG). The Standard and this paper address media formatting, data formatting for a variety of different data types, data downloading, and data security, along with serial command and control and discrete command and control of the recorder. This paper also addresses software data processing and raw data reconstruction of Chapter 10 data.

The Weapons System Test and Integration Laboratory (WSTIL) at the U.S. Army Yuma Proving Ground (YPG) will provide a new capability for ground based testing in this arena. Current and near term YPG scheduled test programs will benefit tremendously from this enhanced ground test capability provided by the Weapons STIL. The Weapons STIL's design goals center on the implementation of an automated mechanism for testing the weapon systems and sensors that are currently the responsibility of the YPG facility. To meet the Army's weapons test needs the Weapons STIL incorporates various levels of digital stimulation, human-in-the-loop, hardware-in-the-loop, and installed system test facility (ISTF) techniques to maximize ground testing in order to focus and optimize subsequent open air flight testing. This paper describes this work in progress.

This paper provides method of installation and retrofit of legacy recorders in F16, F15, A-10, and B-52 aircraft.

The complexity of modern test and evaluation (T&E) processes has resulted in an explosion of the quantity and diversity of metadata used to describe end-to-end T&E processes. Ideally, it would be possible to integrate metadata in such a way that disparate systems can seamlessly access the metadata and easily interoperate with other systems. Unfortunately, there are several barriers to achieving this goal: metadata is often designed for use with specific tools or specific purposes; metadata exists in a variety of formats (legacy, non-legacy, structured and unstructured metadata); and the same information is represented in multiple ways across different metadata formats.

This master‘s thesis describes the design of a system usable for wireless measurement of the tire pressure. The goal is to make a theoretical acquintace with the wireless measurement of a tire pressure. Within the master‘s thesis was suggested device at the block level. For individual blocks have been chosen specific circuits. For the device has been selected the pressure sensor SP100-7AT, the microcontrollers Atmega8 and Atmega16 and the wireless module RFM22. The result of the work is a functional prototype of device including software for microprocessors. Final solution was tested during the experimental measurement.

The paper discusses the history and background of metadata standards for the FTI community over the last 20 years and speculates on how they may develop in the future. It starts by highlighting the deficiencies of proprietary formats and the resulting problems. It then discusses the characteristics and features of specific industry standard metadata descriptions such as TMATS, iHAL, MDL and XidML in addition to their levels of maturity. The attributes of what constitutes a fully mature FTI metadata standard is then discussed. It is suggested that any standard must serve at least two functions, Configuration and Validation, and outlines what exactly each means. Finally, it is argued that there is now a significant level of convergence and consensus in both the scope and application of metadata, and in the associated concept of operations (ConOps). The details of this Concept of Operations are then discussed along with suggestions as to how this may evolve in the coming years.

This paper describes a method in which users realize the benefits of a standards-based method for capturing and evaluating verification and validation (V&V) rules within and across metadata instance documents. The method uses a natural language based syntax for the T&E metadata V&V rule set in order to abstract the highly technical rule languages to a domain-specific syntax. As a result, the domain expert can easily specify, validate and manage the specification and validation of the rules themselves. Our approach is very flexible in that under the hood, the method automatically translates rules to a host of target rule languages. We validated our method in a multi-vendor scenario involving Metadata Description Language (MDL) and Instrumentation Hardware Abstraction Language (IHAL) instance documents, user constraints, and domain constraints. The rules are captured in natural language, and used to perform V&V within a single metadata instance document and across multiple metadata instance documents.

The Telemedical Assistance Service (TMAS) plays a vital role in medical care at sea by linking the medically responsible officers (MROs) on board with onshore physicians. This project aims to investigate telemedical providers’ perceptions of maritime health care quality today, as well as future potential improvements in this field. A qualitative methodology was chosen as its strength lies in focus on the processes – the people, situation and events that lead to certain outcomes. Semi-structured interviews with TMAS professional staff focused on current communication limitations, perceptions of overall care quality, and what developments, technological or otherwise, might improve healthcare at sea. Following interview transcription and coding against the aims, results with a good degree of consensus were as follows. Poor communication is clearly an issue. High speed data transmission would allow TMAS medical staff to directly observe and evaluate injured crew, and to direct MROs with greater certainty. A touchpad-based system to codify onboard pharmaceuticals was recommended. Standardised initial communication templates would save time and uncertainty and are congruent with how ship’s officers deal with many other situations. Given the difficulty MROs have with IV placement, a shift to intraosseous delivery was recommended. A smaller, more focused and integrated TMAS physician cohort in Sweden was suggested. Pulse oximeters, glucometers and defibrillators were seen as ‘must have’ items on board. Developments in point of care blood analysis, especially for detection of inflammation and infection, were seen as important to evaluate. As a general conclusion, progress could be made in improving onboard medical care via a collaboration between TMAS personnel, MROs, and maritime training staff. This would allow for dialogue on what changes to training and onboard equipment might be agreed now; what should be further evaluated; and a mechanism by which developments in communication, techniques, and portable analytic devices might be effectively implemented in the future.
Telemedical Assistance Service (TMAS) spelar en viktig roll i sjukvård till sjöss genom att sammanföra sjukvårdsansvariga sjöbefäl (MROs) med sjukvårdspersonal iland. Denna rapport syftar till att undersöka uppfattningar hos landbaserad personal i TMAS-funktionen angående dagens vårdkvalitet inom sjöfarten, samt potentiella förbättringar inom området. En kvalitativ metod valdes då denna lämpar sig väl med hänsyn till att den fokuserar på processerna, vilka inbegriper individer, situationer, och händelser som leder till vissa utfall. Semistrukturerade intervjuer med TMAS-personal inriktades på rådande begränsningar inom kommunikation, vårdkvalitet ombord, samt hur framtidens teknik kan förbättra sjukvård till sjöss. Efter intervjutranskribering och kodning mot tre huvudfrågor har resultat med en hög grad av samstämmighet utkristalliserats. Bristfällig kommunikation är ett uppenbart problem. Dataöverföring med hög hastighet skulle tillåta konsulterande läkare att själv observera och utvärdera skadade besättningsmedlemmar, samt att instruera MROs med högre noggrannhet. Ett system baserat på pekplattor för effektiviserad hantering av mediciner ombord rekommenderades. Standardiserade mallar som stöd för initial patientrapportering skulle spara tid och förebygga osäkerhet, och skulle ligga väl i linje med hur fartygsbefäl hanterar många andra situationer ombord. Mot bakgrund av ombordanställdas besvär med att sätta intravenösa infarter, rekommenderades en övergång från intravenös till intraosseös läkemedelsadministrering. En mindre och mer integrerad arbetsgrupp på TMAS-avdelningen i Sverige föreslogs. Syremättnadsmätare, glukosmätare, och defibrillatorer ansågs vara oumbärliga tillbehör ombord. Utrustning för patientnära blodanalys, i synnerhet för att upptäcka inflammation och infektion sågs som viktigt att utvärdera vidare. Sammanfattningsvis pekar resultaten mot att framsteg inom sjukvård till sjöss kan främjas genom samarbete mellan TMAS-personal, sjukvårdsansvariga ombord, och kursansvariga för sjöfartsutbildningar. Ett sådant samarbete skulle möjliggöra en dialog om vilka förändringar avseende utbildning och utrustning ombord som kan implementeras i dagsläget, och vilka som kräver vidare granskning. Det hade även utgjort ett forum för vad som kan realiseras i framtiden beträffande kommunikation, tillvägagångssätt, och portabla analysverktyg.

This research is to synthesize PVA/TMPS/TiO2 nanocomposites with good heat resistance, UV-shielding, high transparency and photocatalytic degradation by sol-gel methods. At the first, the TMPS was performed to the silanol intermediate by hydrolysis in acid solution of pH=2. In order to couple with the organic matrixes the inorganic TiO2 powder was modified by silanol. The active –OH functional groups of TMPS/TiO2 and organic PVA matrixes will progress condensation with each other to synthesize PVA/TMPS/TiO2 nanocomposites. The chemical bonding formation and the best weight contents of reaction components were identified by FT-IR spectra. The thermal resistance, optical transmittance and the ability of photocatalytic degradation, morphology of surface, surface resistance, and hardness of these nanocomposites were measured by TGA, UV-Visible, FE-SEM, super megohmeter and hardness tester respectively. Experimental results showed that these hybrid films had over 90% transmittance and the best Td value of 276.14。C was 20。C higher than the Td value of 256.54。C for PVA. The hardness of these hybrid films was improved from 3H to 6H. The surface resistance of these hybrid films were decreased from 2.15x1010 Ω/cm to 2.13x109 Ω/cm2. The morphology of hybrid films were estimated by FE-SEM. The results of FE-SEM showed that the inorganic TiO2 powder were well distributed throughout the PVA matrixes and the average particles size of these nanocomposites were about 40nm. Finally, the tests of photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue and methyl red with these hybrid films was successful. O presente estudo teve por objectivo avaliar a existência de ideação suicida, bem como a sintomatologia psicopatológica em indivíduos toxicodependentes. Mais especificamente, o estudo visou avaliar a existência de ideação suicida e o nível de sintomatologia psicopatológica entre indivíduos abstinentes (ausência de consumo de heroína e cocaína há mais de 30 dias) e indivíduos consumidores de heroína e cocaína no mesmo período, sujeitos a diferentes tipos de tratamento (metadona, buprenorfina ou nenhum). Para o efeito, foram avaliados 100 indivíduos do Centro de Respostas Integradas de Matosinhos, aos quais foi administrado um questionário sócio-demográfico, o Questionário de Ideação Suicida de Beck (Cunha, 2001) e o Inventário de Sintomatologia Psicopatológica (Canavarro, 2007). Quanto à ideação suicida não foi possível verificar diferenças significativas entre os indivíduos consumidores e abstinentes, assim como, nos diferentes tipos de tratamento. Relativamente à sintomatologia psicopatológica, o nível de hostilidade e psicoticismo foi, em média, superior no grupo de indivíduos com consumos de cocaína e heroína há mais de 30 dias comparativamente com o grupo de indivíduos abstinentes. Diferenças significativas foram identificadas entre os grupos de tratamento de metadona e de buprenorfina, sendo que os indivíduos no tratamento de metadona apresentavam um Índice de Sintomas Positivos mais elevado. Conclui-se que os indivíduos que apresentam consumos há menos de trinta dias apresentam maior sintomatologia psicopatológica face aos indivíduos que se encontram abstinentes. This study aimed to evaluate the existence of suicidal ideation, as well as psychopathological symptoms in people addicted to drugs. More specifically, the study was to evaluate the existence of suicidal ideation and the level of psychopathological symptoms among individuals abstinent (no consumption of heroin and cocaine for more than 30 days) and individual consumers of heroin and cocaine in the same period, subject to different types of treatment (methadone, buprenorphine or none). To this end, 100 individuals were evaluated at the CRI of Matosinhos, who were administered a sociodemographic questionnaire, the Beck Scale for Suicide Ideation (Cunha, 2001) and the Inventory of psychopathological symptomatology (Canavarro, 2007). Suicidal ideation didn´t present significant differences between consumers and abstinent individuals, as well as in different types of treatment. With regard to psychopathological symptoms, the level of hostility and psychoticism was on average higher in the group of individuals with cocaine and heroin for more than 30 days compared with the group of abstinent individuals. Significant differences were identified between treatment groups of methadone and buprenorphine, and individuals in methadone treatment had a positive symptom index higher. We conclude that individuals have intakes less than thirty days are more psychopathological symptoms compared to individuals who are abstinent.

A construção dos projetos de vida relaciona-se com o processo de construção de identidade. Considerando o impacto negativo que a institucionalização acarreta no desenvolvimento de crianças e adolescentes, o presente estudo tem o intuito, investigar os projetos de vida de adolescentes institucionalizadas e, nomeadamente de que forma é que a vivência institucional influencia a construção desses projetos. A amostra é constituída por 15 adolescentes do sexo feminino, estudantes do 5º ao 11ºano, e com idades compreendidas entre os 12 e os 18 anos de idade. Estas adolescentes encontram-se institucionalizadas em valências de Lar de Infância e Juventude (LIJ) e CAT (Centro de Acolhimento Temporário). Para a recolha de dados foram usados instrumentos de gravação (áudio) das entrevistas. Esta foi efetuada seguindo um guião semiestruturado e antecedida pelo preenchimento de um questionário sociodemográfico, com dados referentes a cada participante. O método selecionado para tratar os dados e suportar o estudo estruturou-se a partir de uma abordagem fenomenológica (investigação qualitativa) segundo os pressupostos de Bardin (1997), com o objetivo de descrever e interpretar o conteúdo das entrevistas efetuadas. Os resultados obtidos mostram que os projetos de vida das adolescentes são pouco estruturados e mais ideológicos que motivacionais. Envolvem objetivos de natureza académica, profissional e familiar. Tais objetivos são estabelecidos no sentido de alcançar melhores condições de vida, que lhes assegurem as condições básicas de subsistência, tais como ter uma casa, viajar, carta de condução ou ainda ajudar nas despesas familiares. Relativamente à vivência institucional verificou-se que esta é perspetivada como importante na formação de identidade destas adolescentes, ou seja, na preparação de vida autónoma fora da instituição e no apoio aos estudos de forma a prosseguirem um percurso académico e profissional. Por outro lado, uma influência negativa é também apontada pelas adolescentes participantes segundo as quais a institucionalização não permite o contato com familiares e amigos considerados como base de apoio à construção dos projetos de vida. Das conclusões obtidas com este estudo decorreram algumas implicações práticas, nomeadamente, a necessidade de criação de programas direcionados para a construção de projetos de vida de adolescentes institucionalizados, os quais deverão envolver também familiares, assim como de programas de Inserção no Mundo do Trabalho,como forma de auxiliar estas adolescentes na construção da sua trajetória escolar e profissional.
The construction of life projects relates to the process of identity construction. Considering the negative impact that institutionalization entails developing children and adolescents, the present study aims to investigate the life projects of institutionalized adolescents and in particular how it is that the institutional experience influences the construction of these projects The sample consists of 15 female adolescents, students from 5th to 11th grade, and aged between 12 and 18 years old. These teens are institutionalized in valences Home for Children and Youth (LIJ) and CAT (Temporary Shelter). For data collection instruments for recording (audio) interviews were used. This was done following a semi-structured script and preceded by completing a sociodemographic questionnaire, with data for each participant. The method selected to handle the data and support the study was structured from a phenomenological approach (qualitative research) according to the assumptions of Bardin (1997), aiming to describe and interpret the content of the interviews conducted. The results show that the ambitions of the teenagers are unstructured and more ideological than motivational. Family goals involve academic nature, and professional. These objectives are set to achieve better living standards, which ensure the basic conditions of subsistence, such as having a home, traveling, driving license or even help with family expenses. Regarding institutional experience showed that this is viewed as important in identity formation of these adolescents, in the preparation of independent life outside the institution and supporting studies in order to pursue an academic and professional background. On the other hand, a negative influence is also indicated by the participating adolescents under which institutionalization not allowed contact with family and friends as basis to support construction of life projects. Of the conclusions from this study held some practical implications, in particular, the need to create targeted programs for the construction of life projects institutionalized adolescents, which should also involve family members, as well as programs Insertion World of Work, as way to help these adolescents in building their educational trajectory.

Neste estudo abordamos a personalidade dos bombeiros voluntários através do modelo dos cinco grandes fatores. A aceitação da matriz do modelo dos cinco fatores por parte da personalidade e da saúde faculta uma infa-estrutura conceptual e teórica dotada da maior coerência. A amostra deste estudo é constituída por 57 bombeiros pertencentes à Associação Humanitária de Tarouca (A.H.B.V.T.), distrito de Viseu, sendo que todos os participantes desempenham funções de bombeiro voluntário. De entre os bombeiros participantes 7 são do sexo feminino e 50 do sexo masculino, com idades compreendidas entre os 17 e os 61 anos (M = 35,46; DP = 11,1). As medidas utilizadas neste estudo são o questionário sociodemográfico (Maravilha & Costa-Lobo, 2013) para avaliar as variáveis sociodemográficas, como a idade, a profissão e o tempo de bombeiro e o Revised NEO Personality Inventory (NEO-PI-R) de Costa e McCrae (1992), na sua versão portuguesa (Lima & Simões, 2000) para a avaliação da personalidade. Concretizou-se o estudo da associação entre variáveis sociodemográficas, idade e tempo enquanto bombeiro, e os domínios da personalidade (NEO-PI-R, Costa & McCrae, 1992). Os resultados são discutidos com base no modelo dos cinco fatores (Costa & McCrae, 1992) e levam-nos a considerar que variáveis sociodemográficas estão associadas ao tipo de personalidade de cada indivíduo. Este estudo manifesta a pertinência de analisarmos a população dos bombeiros, no que concerne aos traços de personalidade com o intuito de aferir informação que possa conduzir à elaboração de um programa de promoção para a saúde, com intervenções psicológicas em grupo devidamente delineadas e metódicas.

O presente estudo analisa a associação existente entre a exploração vocacional e a tomada de decisão em alunos do ensino superior, contribuindo para a construção de programas de intervenção psicológica vocacional. Este estudo enquadra-se na linha de investigação do desenvolvimento de carreira (Taveira, 2008), da exploração vocacional (Taveira, 1997), bem como na influência do género nas escolhas vocacionais (Saavedra, 2005). Os dados da investigação foram colhidos num estabelecimento de ensino superior particular, Universidade Portucalense Infante D. Henrique. A amostra deste estudo é constituída por 49 participantes, na sua maioria mulheres (n=42), maioritariamente (68%) com idades entre os 19 e os 21. Os estudantes frequentavam o 2º ano do 1º ciclo de estudos em Psicologia, na Universidade Portucalense, no ano letivo 2012/2013. Após o consentimento informado, os inquiridos responderam a um Questionário Sociodemográfico (Gomes & Costa Lobo, 2013), a uma Escala de Decisão de Carreira designada Career Decison Scale (versão original Osipow, Carney, Winer, Yanico & Kochier, 1976 -adaptada para a população Portuguesa por Taveira, 1997) e a uma Escala de Exploração Vocacional denominada Career Exploration Survey (versão original Stumpf, Collarelli & Hartman, 1983- adaptada para a população Portuguesa por Taveira, 1997). Observou-se, através do teste de independência do Qui-quadrado, não existir qualquer associação entre as variáveis sociodemográficas em estudo e a decisão da escolha vocacional. Para verificar a associação entre as crenças de exploração e os processos de exploração foi utilizado o teste de coeficiente de Correlação Linear de Pearson, através do qual se averiguou a existência de uma associação significativa e moderada entre as variáveis em estudo. Em relação à associação entre quantidade de informação e indecisão de carreira, foi usado o teste de independência do Qui-quadrado que atestou a associação significativa entre as variáveis em questão. Após a análise e confirmação parcial das hipóteses, verifica-se que as crenças de exploração influenciam o modo e o envolvimento do estudante nas atividades exploratórias, processos que se apresentam como determinantes no envolvimento do aluno na tomada de decisão. Os resultados obtidos nesta investigação são úteis à ponderação de novos momentos de investigação e de sistematização de intervenção psicológica vocacional no ensino superior.

O alcoolismo é visto como uma doença gradual, incurável e quase sempre fatal, que provoca danos a vários níveis, nomeadamente, ao nível da saúde mental e física; ao nível social; ao nível laboral e ao nível judicial. A adolescência é encarada como uma fase de transição de qualquer criança para a idade adulta. Nesta fase os consumos de álcool iniciam-se precocemente, sendo visto como um ato social, cada vez mais banal. Dado ao aumento dos consumos de álcool é cada vez mais pertinente realizar programas de prevenção, de modo a retardar o início dos consumos de substâncias lícitas, educar os adolescentes para os efeitos das mesmas. Acresce referir que é igualmente relevante avaliar a eficácia dos programas de prevenção existentes em Portugal. Este estudo tem como objetivo analisar e comparar os efeitos no sentimento de felicidade em adolescentes, do Ensino Básico e Secundário com idades compreendidas entre 13-15/16-20, que consomem ou não consomem álcool, sendo levado a cabo um estudo quantitativo. Utilizou-se para a recolha de dados um questionário com questões demográficas relevantes e uma escala de modo a avaliar a Felicidade dos adolescentes, construída por Argyle em Oxford. Os dados recolhidos foram inseridos e tratados através do programa informático SPSS versão 18 para Windows. O estudo revelou uma forte predominância no consumo de cerveja e vodka, em que o maior fator de risco é o grupo de pares. Através da escala da Felicidade, verifica- se que os adolescentes de ambas as escolaridades, não demonstram grandes danos neste sentimento, o que pode querer dizer que como ainda são muito jovens os seus consumos ainda não provocaram grandes danos, contudo, a longo prazo pode vir a diminuir os índices de felicidade, como se verifica nos adultos que recorrem ao tratamento para o alcoolismo. Alcoholism is a disease seen as progressive, incurable and almost always fatal, causing damage at various levels, including at the level of mental and physical health, social level, at work and at court. Adolescence is viewed as a phase transition of any child to adulthood. At this stage the consumption of alcohol begin early, being seen as a social act, increasingly banal. Given the increase in consumption of alcohol is increasingly pertinent to conduct prevention programs in order to delay the consumption of licit substances, educating teens to their effects. Moreover mention that it is also important to evaluate the effectiveness of prevention programs in Portugal. This study aims to analyze and compare the effects on the feeling of happiness in adolescent Primary and Secondary school aged 13-15/16-20, which consume or not consume alcohol, and carried out a quantitative study. It was used for data collection a questionnaire with demographic questions and a relevant scale to assess adolescents' Happiness, built by Argyle at Oxford. The collected data were entered and processed using the software SPSS version 18 for Windows. The study revealed a strong predominance in the consumption of beer and vodka, where the greatest risk factor is the peer group. Through the scale of Happiness, it turns out that teenagers of both schooling show no great harm in this sense, which may mean they are still very young as their consumption has not caused major damage, however, the long term can likely to reduce the rates of happiness, as seen in adults who resort to treatment for alcoholism.

Já há muitos anos que a sexualidade e a sua abordagem deixou de ser um tema omitido pela nossa sociedade. Inclusivamente, nos últimos anos, tem assumido uma posição mais activa pois, aos poucos, a sociedade foi-se apercebendo da necessidade de a exaltar para um melhor desenvolvimento dos indivíduos. Como é sabido, são vários os elementos que influenciam a sexualidade dos sujeitos, entre eles a escola. Assim, sabendo que a educação sexual se tornou tema obrigatório em ambiente escolar ao nível das áreas curriculares disciplinares e não disciplinares e tendo em conta que os professores são reconhecidos como um dos principais agentes de incitação de saberes e valores, e, que no que respeita à abordagem da educação sexual, é-lhes conferida uma certa ‘margem de manobra’ no planeamento e execução da temática, tornou-se importante, não só perceber qual a percepção de docentes acerca da inclusão da temática em meio escolar, como entender a sua perspectiva sobre a influência das características pessoais e envolventes nas suas escolhas para o seu desenvolvimento em contexto escolar. Para o efeito, no final do ano lectivo de 2010/2011, desenvolveram-se três entrevistas semi-estruturadas a professores de um dado estabelecimento de ensino da zona centro norte de Portugal Continental, que tivessem abordado a temática com os seus alunos. Depois de analisados os dados, através do método qualitativo de análise de conteúdo, percebemos que, apesar de todos os participantes terem concordado com a abordagem da temática no contexto escolar, os três fazem subentender uma abordagem ‘forçada’ pelo carácter obrigatório do Programa de Educação Sexual, incluído na Educação para a Saúde, e por todas as diretrizes que este programa incita e não por a acharem tão importante ao ponto de a incluírem por vontade própria. Por exemplo, sentem-se ‘obrigados’ a abordá-la nas disciplinas cujos conteúdos curriculares compreendam a componente biológica da sexualidade; ‘coagidos’ pela docência da Formação Cívica, bem como pelo cargo de director de turma. Depreendeu-se também que, para além da interferência das características e opiniões pessoais, apesar de alguns argumentarem ter uma conduta neutra, existem outros factores que podem influenciar a abordagem dos docentes neste âmbito, como sejam: a opinião dos pais, a religião dos alunos, entre outros. No entanto percebeu-se ainda que os docentes que abordavam a educação sexual ao nível da sua unidade curricular, integrada na componente de transversalidade designada pela legalidade, não procederam a qualquer adaptação ou actividade específica para abordar o tema na unidade curricular pela qual eram responsáveis. Constatou-se sim que os docentes subentendiam algumas das suas temáticas curriculares como temas previstos para a educação sexual e assim já estariam implicitamente a abordá-la.
For many years sexuality and its approach is no longer an issue overlooked by our society. Even in recent years as assumed a more active position, slowly, the society began to understand the need to exalt for a better development of the individuals. Has its well-known, there are several elements that influence the subjects sexuality among them the school. So, knowing that sexual education has become a mandatory subject in the school environment in terms of subject areas and not disciplinary, knowing that teachers are recognized as one of the main agents of inciting knowledge and values and, as regards approach to sexual education, they are given a certain 'margin of maneuver' in the planning and execution of the theme, it’s important not only understand the perception of teachers on the inclusion of the issue of sexual education in schools, how to understand their perspective about influence of personal characteristics and engaging in their choices for their development in the school context. For this purpose at the end of the academic year 2010/2011, were developed three semi-structured interviews with teachers of an educational institution of the central north of Portugal, who had approached the topic with their students. After analyzing the data, using the method of qualitative content analysis, we realized, even that all the participants say that they agree with the thematic approach, the three suggest the ‘forced’ approach by the mandatory Program of Sexual Education, included on the Education for Health, and for all the guidelines and not for the importance of including them for free will. For example, is understood that teachers feel ‘obliged’ to address it in the disciplines whose curricular content comprehend a biological component of sexuality; ‘coerced’ by the teaching of Civics, as well as the position of the class director. It was also found, due to teachers’ discourses, although some argue having a neutral conduct many are the elements that interfere with them. Therefore, in addition to the personal characteristics, there are other factors that can influence their methodology in this field of activity, such as: parents opinions, religion of the students and their family, among others. It was still possible to check that the teachers who treat sexual education in terms of their courses, part of the transverse component designated by legality, say not to proceed to any adjustment or specific activity to address the issue in the course for which they are responsible. Thus, this fact allows to suppose that teachers underlie some of their curriculum subjects such matters provided for sexual education and so are already implicitly address it.

O ingresso no Ensino Superior confronta os jovens com várias mudanças e desafios com implicações nos seus níveis de sucesso e de satisfação, quer com a vida em geral, quer com a dimensão académica em particular. Esta etapa, que também corresponde a uma fase de desenvolvimento psicossocial e cognitivo, é influenciada tanto por variáveis pessoais como por variáveis académicas e contextuais. Neste âmbito, através de uma perspetiva sociocognitiva, procura-se através deste estudo analisar os possíveis fatores que estão positivamente associados com um ajustamento bem-sucedido à Universidade, com recurso à administração de um questionário sociodemográfico e três instrumentos adaptados à população portuguesa: a versão reduzida do Questionário de Vivências Académicas de Almeida, Ferreira e Soares (1999), o Questionário de Suporte Social de Pinheiro e Ferreira (2002) e a Escala de satisfação com a Vida de Simões (1992). Os instrumentos utilizados apresentam validade de construtoe caracterizam-se por uma fiabilidade boa ou adequada e estruturas fatoriais interpretáveis, sugerindo assim a sua adequabilidade. Partindo deste enquadramento conceptual realizou-se um estudo transversal, com uma amostra não probabilística de 85 estudantes, maioritariamente do sexo feminino (n=84, 98,8%) e com idades desde os 18 e superiores aos 22 anos, tendo 82,4% dos participantes idades igual ou inferior aos 22 anos. A amostra é composta por estudantes que frequentam o 1º ciclo de estudos em Psicologia (n=40, 47,1%) e Educação Social (n=45, 52,9%) na Universidade Portucalense no ano letivo de 2012/2013, grande parte destes estudantes encontram-se no 3º ano (n=44, 51,8%). Em termos gerais, podemos afirmar que os estudantes da nossa amostra apresentam bons indicadores de ajustamento académico ao Ensino Superior, perceção da satisfação com o suporte disponível e satisfação com a vida em geral. Os resultados sugerem a existência de uma relação estatisticamente significativa entre algumas variáveis sociodemográficas e o ajustamento académico no Ensino Superior, a perceção do número de suporte disponível e a satisfação com a vida. Além disto, permitem infirmar a existência de associação entre a perceção do suporte social e o ajustamento académico ao Ensino Superior, e confirmar parcialmente a associação entre o ajustamento académico bem-sucedido e a satisfação com a vida em geral e entre a perceção do suporte social e a satisfação com a vida em geral dos estudantes.

No presente estudo, visamos investigar a configuração das interações entre maus-tratos, processo de resiliência e desenvolvimento do juízo moral em adolescentes colocados em Lares de Infância e Juventude, na sequência de uma Medida de Acolhimento Institucional de acordo com a Lei n.º 147 de 1 de setembro de 1999 (alínea f). O objetivo principal do presente estudo consiste em analisar o modo como os processos de resiliência e o desenvolvimento do juízo moral de adolescentes acolhidos em Lares de Infância e Juventude são afetados pela vivência passada de maus-tratos intrafamiliares e pela experiência de institucionalização. Pretendemos igualmente identificar outros fatores de risco e fatores de proteção e elucidar o seu impacto sobre o nível de resiliência e o desenvolvimento cognitivo-moral dos sujeitos. No estudo empírico, utilizou-se uma metodologia mista, incluindo instrumentos de recolha e análise de dados quantitativos e qualitativos, a fim de possibilitar a articulação entre a construção subjetiva de sentido (a autointerpretação das vivências) e a comparação de resultados mensuráveis de processos sociocognitivos. A amostra inclui, no estudo quantitativo, um grupo de adolescentes institucionalizados (N=30) e um grupo de comparação constituído por adolescentes não institucionalizados (N=32), equivalentes quanto à idade. Quanto ao estudo qualitativo, foi utilizada uma sub-amostra (N=8) do grupo de adolescentes institucionalizados, selecionada de acordo com os princípios da amostragem teórica da Grounded theory. Os resultados indicam que os adolescentes institucionalizados apresentam níveis inferiores de resiliência e de desenvolvimento moral, comparativamente com o grupo de adolescentes não institucionalizados. A estrutura e a temática das estórias de vida dos adolescentes institucionalizados concentram-se em episódios nucleares, onde a memória do passado se articula com a imaginação do futuro, permitindo identificar padrões narrativos de resiliência e de vulnerabilidade que refletem as suas trajetórias e ecolo gias psicossociais de desenvolvimento.
In this study, we aim to investigate the configuration of the interactions between maltreatment, process resilience and development of moral judgment in adolescents placed in homes for children and youth, following a Measure of Institutional Childcare according to Law nº. 147 of September 1, 1999 (f). The main objective of this study is to examine how the processes of resilience and the development of moral judgment in adolescents welcomed into homes for children and youth are affected by past experience of intra-family abuse and the experience of institutionalization. We also want to identify other risk factors and protective factors and elucidate their impact on the level of resilience and cognitive moral development of the subject. In the empirical study, we used a mixed methodology, including tools for collecting and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data, to enable the linkage between subjective construction of meaning (the auto interpretation of experiences) and the comparison results of measurable socio-cognitive processes. The sample includes the quantitative study, a group of institutionalized adolescents (N=30) and a comparison group consisting of non-institutionalized adolescents (N = 32), equivalent in terms of age. Regarding qualitative study, a sub-sample (N = 8) of the institutionalized adolescents group selected in accordance with the principles of theoretical sampling grounded theory was used. The results indicate that institutionalized adolescents with low er levels of resilience and moral development, compared with the group of non-institutionalized adolescents. The structure and themes of the stories of life of institutionalized adolescents focus on nuclear episodes, where the memory of the past is linked to the imagination of the future, allowing to identify life-story patterns of resilience and vulnerability that reflect their trajectories and psychosocial developmental ecologies.

O foco deste estudo é a caracterização das estratégias de coping internas/ externas, usadas pelas famílias de alunos do ensino superior em situações causadoras de stress. Assim sendo, tentou-se perceber se existiam diferenças entre diferentes tipologias familiares e perceções do rendimento familiar, nas estratégias de coping das famílias. A amostra envolveu 192 sujeitos. Os resultados indicam a inexistência de diferenças estatisticamente significativas nas estratégias de coping das famílias tendo em consideração a estrutura familiar. Quando se comparam indivíduos com diferentes perceções do seu rendimento familiar em termos das estratégias de coping usadas pelas suas famílias, verificam-se diferenças significativas nas dimensões reenquadramento, apoio espiritual e apoio social – relações intimas. Neste sentido, os sujeitos que percecionam menor rendimento social são os que apresentam menor recurso às estratégias anteriormente referidas, exceto na dimensão reenquadramento, ou seja, os sujeitos que percecionam o seu rendimento como fraco utilizam mais este tipo de estratégia comparativamente com quem o perceciona como razoável. The aim of this study is to characterize the coping strategies in stress situations used by the higher education student´s families. Therefore, the main goals were to understand if there were differences between family structure and perception of family income in coping. The total subjects of this study were 192. For this purpose, through the conducted analysis, we conclude that the there is no differences in family structure. In perception of family income, the only difference was in reframing, spiritual support and social support-intimate relationships dimensions, showing that worse the perception lesser is the use of this strategies, except in reframing dimension, that indicates that the poor perception uses more that in median perception.

A qualidade da vinculação é um fator muito relevante para a educação e saúde mental das crianças. As crianças que frequentam as creches podem desenvolver uma rede de relacionamentos de vinculação dentro e fora da família (Smith & Noble, 1987), por este motivo tem-se verificado um crescente interesse pelo estudo da vinculação que os adultos possibilitam às crianças (Simpson & Rholes, 1998; Bartholomew & Shaver, 1998). Alguns estudos (Alexander, et al.,1998; Mikulincer, Florian & Weller, 1993) sugerem que os indivíduos com sintomatologia pós-traumática estabelecem um estilo de vinculação insegura mais frequentemente do que aqueles que não foram expostos a acontecimentos traumáticos e terão um risco acrescido para o desenvolvimento dos mais profundos distúrbios de regulação emocional e PTSD (Alexander,1992). Deste modo, o presente estudo tem como objetivo central examinar as relações entre a qualidade da vinculação do adulto (e educador) com as sintomatologias de pós-stress traumático e de (des)regulação emocional. Para o efeito foram avaliados 78 adultos com idade média de 35,42 anos (DP = 8,72), 94,9% mulheres, 5,1% homens, educadores, auxiliares e professores do ensino básico, recorrendo aos seguintes instrumentos de avaliação: versões portuguesas do Impact of Event Scale-Revised (IES-R), da Difficulties in Emotional Regulation Scale (DERS) e a Escala de Vinculação do Adulto (EVA). Observam-se uma taxa de prevalência de PPST nos participantes de 48,7% e registaram-se correlações estatisticamente significativas entre a Sintomatologia Traumática e a Vinculação. Os resultados através do estudo das correlações demonstram que a Escolaridade e a Profissão têm efeitos estatisticamente significativos na Vinculação dos Educadores. As Habilitações, as Dificuldades no Acesso às Estratégias de Regulação Emocional e de Não-aceitação das respostas emocionais e a sintomatologia de stress traumático predizem 32,5% da Ansiedade. A Dificuldade de Clareza, de Consciência Emocional, a sintomatologia de stress traumático e as Habilitações permitem explicar 27,4% do Conforto com a Proximidade. Deste modo, estes resultados permitem verificar a prevalência de PPST, assim como das Dificuldades de Regulação Emocional na predição da Qualidade da Vinculação. The quality of attachment is a very relevant factor for education and children's mental health. Children who attend daycare centers can develop a network of relationships linking within and outside the family (Smith & Noble, 1987), for this reason there has been a growing interest in the study of attachment that allow adults to children (Simpson & Rholes, 1998; Bartholomew & Shaver, 1998). Some studies (Alexander, et al. 1998; Mikulincer, Florian & Weller, 1993) suggests that subjects with symptoms of post-traumatic set a style of insecure attachment more often than those that were not exposed to traumatic events and have a risk increased development of the deepest emotion regulation disorders and PTSD (Alexander, 1992). Thus, this study aims to examine the central relationship between quality of attachment in adults (and educator) with the symptomatology of post-traumatic stress and emotional (dys)regulation. So, we evaluated 78 adults with an average age of 35.42 years (SD = 8.72), 94.9% women, 5.1% men, educators, auxiliaries and elementary school teachers, using the following assessment tools: Portuguese versions of the Impact of Event Scale-Revised (IES-R), the Difficulties in Emotional Regulation Scale (DERS) and Portuguese versions of the Adult Attachment Scale (AAS-R). The results, by studying the correlations show that education and occupation have significant effect on attachment in Educators. We observed a prevalence of 48,7% patients with PTSD and there were statistically significant correlations between Traumatic Symptomatology and Attachment. The results by studying the correlations show that the Education and Profession have statistically significant effects on Attachment Educators. The Qualifications, Difficulties in Access to Emotion Regulation Strategies and Nonacceptance of emotional responses and symptoms of traumatic stress explain 32.5% of Anxiety. The Difficulty of Clarity, Emotional Awareness, traumatic stress symptons and qualifications allow us to explain 27.4% of Comfort with Proximity. So, these results allow us to verify the high prevalence of PTSD, as well as the importante of difficulties in Emotion Regulation predicting the Quality of Attachment.

A democracia, em termos gerais, pode ser considerada como um conjunto de “direitos fundamentais dos indivíduos” (Touraine, 1996, p. 42) que incluí liberdades individuais, direitos humanos, desenvolvimento económico e justiça social (Crick, 2002). É na instituição familiar que se estabelece o primeiro contato a nível social, desenvolvendo padrões, normas e valores (Reis, 1996), tendo assim influência direta na formação de comportamentos sociais dos jovens (Oliveira, 1994; Relvas e Alarcão, 2002; Formiga, 2004), sentido de identidade (Matheus, 2007; Hall, Lindzey e Campbell, 2000) e identidade política (e.g. Camino, 1996; Kohlberg, 1981). Enquadrado por esta problemática é relevante analisar o comportamento dos jovens face a diferentes conceções de democracia (e.g. Braga da Cruz, 1984, 1990; Menezes, 2005, Ferreira, 2006) tendo em atenção os estilos educativos parentais. O presente estudo teve como principal objetivo analisar em que sentido os estilos educativos parentais influenciam na construção e adoção de diferentes conceções de democracia e valores democráticos dos alunos. Assim, foram aplicados 3 instrumentos: a Escala de Suporte a Direitos de Minorias Culturais (Nata e Menezes, 2007) e, Escala de Conceções de Democracia e Inventário de Estilos Educativos Parentais, sendo estes 2 últimos instrumentos criados especialmente para este estudo. O estudo foi realizado a uma amostra de 208 alunos do Agrupamento de Escolas Rodrigues de Freitas, com idades compreendidas entre os 14 e os 22 anos de idade. A análise fatorial obtida, na escala de conceções de democracia originou quatro fatores – dignidade social, discriminação, participação política e liberdade de expressão; já no inventário de estilos educativos parentais obtivemos 2 fatores, correspondendo às dimensões de aceitação e controlo. Sucintamente, os resultados permitiram verificar que, no seu conjunto, as variáveis sociodemográficas parecem não contribuir para a compreensão da adoção de diferentes conceções de democracia o indivíduo ou suporte a direitos das minorias. Apenas as variáveis escolaridade dos alunos e habilitações literárias das figuras parentais mostram ter alguma influência sobre as variáveis dependentes. Democracy, in general terms, can be considered as a set of "fundamental personal rights" (Touraine, 1996, p. 42) that includes individual liberties, human rights, economic development and social justice (Crick, 2002). It is in the family institution that establishes the first contact on a social level, developing standards, norms and values (Reis, 1996), thus having direct influence in shaping social behavior of young people (Oliveira, 1994; Relvas and Alarcão, 2002, Formiga, 2004), sense of identity (Matheus, 2007; Hall, Lindzey and Campbell, 2000) and political identity (eg Camino, 1996; Kohlberg, 1981). Framed this issue is relevant to analyze the behavior of young people facing different conceptions of democracy (eg Braga da Cruz, 1984, 1990; Menezes, 2005, Ferreira, 2006) taking into account the parental educational styles. The present study aimed to examine in what way the educational parenting styles influence the construction and adoption of different conceptions of democracy and democratic values of the students. Thus, we applied three instruments: the Scale of Support Rights of Cultural Minorities (Nata and Menezes, 2007), Scale of conceptions of Democracy and Education Parenting Styles Inventory, and these last two instruments designed specifically for this study. The study was conducted with a sample of 208 students of the Schools Group Rodrigues de Freitas, aged between 14 and 22 years old. Factor analysis obtained in the range of conceptions of democracy originated four factors - social dignity, discrimination, political participation and freedom of expression; The inventory of educational parenting styles obtained two factors, corresponding to the dimensions of acceptance and control. In summary, the results indicated that, on the whole, sociodemographic variables do not appear to contribute to the understanding of the adoption of different conceptions of democracy and support the individual rights of minorities. Only variables education of students and qualifications of parental figures show have some influence on the dependent variables. Additionally, it is important to note the high percentage of variance explained by the variables discrimination (14%) and freedom of expression (17.3%), which indicates a strong association with the styles of these educational parenting. It was found that students who identified parents as having an educational style with greater parental acceptance are students who have less support in the face of positive discrimination of the gipsy minority. As well as students who identified parental figures as having greater acceptance, most found that freedom of expression is an important feature of democracy.

Abstract:
To PTEN δρα ως ογκοκατασταλτικό γονίδιο, μέσω της δράσης του προϊόντος πρωτεΐνης της φωσφατάσης. Η φωσφατάση εμπλέκεται στη ρύθμιση του κυτταρικού κύκλου εμποδίζοντας τα κύτταρα να αναπτυχθούν και έχοντας σαν αποτέλεσμα την υπερβολικά γρήγορη διαίρεση. Το γονίδιο αυτό έχει ταυτοποιηθεί ως ογκοκατασταλτικό και σε αρκετές περιπτώσεις καρκίνων έχουν εντοπιστεί μεταλλάξεις του. Στην παρούσα διπλωματική εργασία, θα μελετηθεί η δράση του PTEN στο αδενοκαρκίνωμα του παχέως εντέρου και θα εξεταστεί η δυνατότητα χρήσης των επιπέδων έκφρασής του σαν βιοδείκτη για το συγκεκριμένο είδος καρκίνου. Σκοπός της παρούσας διπλωματικής είναι με χρήση κλινικών δεδομένων και της έντασης της έκφρασης της πρωτεΐνης του γονιδίου PTEN, να μελετηθεί με στατιστικές μεθόδους η δυνατότητα πρόβλεψης της βαθμοποίησης και της σταδιοποίησης του αδενοκαρκινώματος του παχέος εντέρου. Για τον σκοπό αυτό χρησιμοποιήθηκαν πραγματικά κλινικά δεδομένα 60 ασθενών που προήλθαν από το κυτταρολογικό εργαστήριο του Νοσηλευτικού Ιδρύματος Μετοχικού Ταμείου Στρατού 417 (Ν.Ι.Μ.Τ.Σ.). Τα δεδομένα αυτά αναλύθηκαν με εφαρμογή της περιγραφικής στατιστικής, της λογιστικής παλινδρόμησης και της πολυμεταβλητής παλινδρόμησης με χρήση του στατιστικού πακέτου R. Παρόλα αυτά κανένα από τα εξαγόμενα στατιστικά μοντέλα δεν βρέθηκε να μπορεί να συσχετίσει την ποσότητα έκφρασης του PTEN γονιδίου με τη βαθμοποίηση και τη σταδιοποίηση του αδενοκαρκινώματος του παχέος εντέρου. Για αυτό τον λόγο καταλήγουμε ότι με χρήση των συγκεκριμένων βιολογικών δεδομένων δεν μπορούμε να επαληθεύσουμε ότι το PTEN γονίδιο είναι βιοδείκτης του αδενοκαρκινώματος του παχέος εντέρου. Μελλοντικά αυτό πρέπει να διερευνηθεί περαιτέρω είτε με τη χρήση επιπλέον κλινικών δεδομένων καθώς το υπάρχον σύνολο δεδομένων περιέχει λίγα δείγματα ασθενών σε σχέση με τις ελεύθερες μεταβλητές του προβλήματος (small sample size problem), είτε με μεθόδους που αυξάνουν τεχνητά τα δείγματα του συνόλου δεδομένων.
PTEN tumor suppressor gene acts as through the action of the protein product of phosphatase. The phosphatase is involved in regulating the cell cycle by preventing cells to grow and the resulting too rapid division. This gene has been identified as tumor suppressor in several cancers identified mutations. In this paper, we studied the effect of PTEN in adenocarcinoma of the colon and consider the possibility of using the levels of expression as biomarker for this type of cancer. The purpose of this thesis is to use clinical data and the intensity of the protein expression of the gene PTEN and be studied using statistical methods for predict the grade and stage of adenocarcinoma of the colon. For this purpose we used real clinical data of 60 patients who came from the cytology laboratory of the hospital in the Army Pension Fund 417 (N.I.M.T.S.). The data were analyzed using the descriptive statistics, regression and multivariate regression using the statistical package R. However none of the extracted statistical models were found to be correlated to the amount of expression of PTEN gene with grade and stage of adenocarcinoma of the colon. For this reason, we conclude that the use of these biological data can not verify that the PTEN gene is a biomarker of adenocarcinoma of the colon. Future should be investigated further or using additional clinical data as the existing data set contains few patient samples relative to the free variables of the problem (small sample size problem), or by methods that increase artificially the samples in the data set.

As práticas educativas parentais têm sido alvo de diversos estudos e são consideradas como importantes preditores do desenvolvimento das crianças. O presente estudo tem como principal objetivo compreender e analisar a influência das práticas educativas parentais nas estratégias de coping e regulação emocional das crianças com idades compreendidas entre os 6-10 anos. A amostra envolveu 30 crianças do sexo masculino, relativamente às quais foram recolhidas informações sociodemográficas, através de um questionário construído para o efeito, informações sobre as práticas educativas parentais recorrendo ao Egma Minnem Bestraffend Upposfostran (EMBU)-C e, sobre as estratégias de coping e a regulação emocional, avaliadas através do Questionário de Estratégias de Coping e de Regulação Emocional. Os resultados obtidos revelaram que as práticas educativas parentais exercem influência nas estratégias de coping e na regulação emocional das crianças. Assim sendo, podemos concluir que o suporte emocional da mãe e do pai favorece utilização de estratégias de coping focalizadas na aceitação. Adicionalmente, o suporte emocional dos progenitores induz as crianças a utilizarem estratégias de coping e de regulação emocional baseadas no pensamento positivo/reavaliação positiva. Por outro lado, a tentativa de controlo da mãe permite predizer uma maior faceta de catastrofização por parte das crianças, sendo que a tentativa de controlo do pai induz as crianças a utilizarem estratégias de coping e de regulação emocional associadas à supressão emocional/expressão emocional e à reavaliação positiva/pensamento positivo. O suporte emocional do pai favorece a utilização de estratégias de coping e de regulação emocional relativas à culpabilização. The parental educational practices have been the subject of several studies and are considered as important predictors of children's development. The present study has as main objective to understand and analyze the influence of parental educational practices in emotional adjustment and coping strategies of children aged 6-10 years. The sample involved 30 male children, for which demographic information was collected through a questionnaire built for this purpose, information about the parental educational practices using the Egma Minnem Bestraffend Upposfostran (EMBU)-C and on the strategies of coping and emotional adjustment, evaluated through Coping strategies questionnaire and Emotional adjustment. The results obtained revealed that the parental educational practices exert influence on coping strategies and emotional adjustment of children. Therefore, we can conclude that the emotional support of the mother and the father favoring use of coping strategies focused on acceptance. Additionally, the emotional support of parents induces children to use coping strategies and emotional adjustment based on positive thinking/positive revaluation. On the other hand, the attempt to control the mother allows you to predict a major facet of catastrophie on the part of children, the parent control attempt induces children to use coping strategies and emotional adjustment associated with the emotional expression and emotional suppression/positive/positive thinking to be reevaluated. The emotional support of the parent encourages the use of coping strategies and emotional adjustment relating to scapegoating.
