The ectomycorrhizal milkcap genus Lactifluus is commonly found within Central and West African gallery forests. During field expeditions in Cameroon and Togo, several collections of white Lactifluus species were found, resembling Lactifluus foetens. The latter is here described as Lactifluus albomembranaceus sp. nov. from the gallery forests in Central and Western Africa. In Cameroon, at least, Lactifluus albomembranaceus is a popular edible f

The chapter deals with the making of a plantation economy in the German colonies in West Africa, 1884-1914. It focuses on the contributions of German botanists like, for example, Walter Busse, and examines the transimperial networks of scientific exchange they were involved in. Furthermore, the chapter deals with the unintended consequences of the cultivation of “cash crops” like cotton and rubber in German Togo and Cameroon. It analyzes how the German scientists established the discipline of phytopathology to fight the germs, bacteria and insects that damaged the plants important for colonial agriculture.

Abstract:
The Conservative modernisation effort over the period of Cameron’s leadership needs to be placed against the backdrop of important changes in British electoral politics. These changes include voter dealignment, a growing dissatisfaction with the major parties as too similar to each other, voter volatility and a willingness to support minor parties. If the Cameron-led modernisation programme’s electoral goal was to broaden the Party’s appeal, to reach out to ethnic minority voters, younger voters, women, and voters throughout the United Kingdom then the record of accomplishment is modest. If, on the other hand, the modernisation project is understood as restoring the Party’s reputation as the party of managerial competence then it may have worked. Cameron’s modernisation approach from an electoral perspective may be best understood as pragmatic inclusiveness. In an era of when many voters are discontented but for different reasons this approach to modernisation may have helped return the Conservatives to power.

Abstract:
The population of the Far North Region of Cameroon suffers the most from poverty and huge environmental challenges. As a result, they have the highest concentration of environmental organizations in Cameroon. Data was collected by interviewing key informants who work in environmental and agricultural companies. It was discovered that conflicts in such organizations are caused by the differences people have in terms of opinions, interests and needs as they work together with each other. Their strictness with one another also causes conflict especially when doing dirty or difficult work tasks. Conflict also comes about when the religious values of each other is not respected especially that of the Muslims in Christians dominated companies. There is also generational conflict which is characterized by the confrontation between the older and less educated generation who have some experience and young graduates who would like to implement new practices. Other causes are discrimination where workers are not promoted basing on merit but on their ethnic relation to one another. There is equally an economic cause which is due to the non-distribution of part of the substantial profits that some companies make to their employees as well as too low salary and poor work tasks distribution.

To achieve this objective, the authors used data from a survey conducted in the cities of Douala and Yaoundé by the Laboratory for Research in Fundamental and Applied Economics (LAREFA) of the University of Dschang. Using a censored Tobit model, the following results were obtained: (1) Ethnic diversity and linguistic diversity each have a positive effect on the sustainability of Cameroonian companies. However, when the linguistic diversity index is too high, its effect becomes significantly negative. (2) Whatever its level, religious diversity has a negative effect on the sustainability of Cameroonian companies.

It is 622,984 square kilometres (km) and has a population of 4.7 million. Centrafrique has a long history of political instability and the latest security and humanitarian crisis of 2013 has deeply affected the country, leading to the displacement of approximately 25 per cent of the population. Although the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) has been deployed since April 2014 and democratic elections took place in 2016, Centrafrique is still very much a country in crisis, where violent conflict is all too common.

(4 AUGUST 2016) [Trans.: Abdulbasit Kassim] Available at: https://soundcloud.com/saharareporters/2016-08-04-audio-00000003-1 This video is a scathing attack upon Shekau and the direction in which he has led Boko Haram by Mamman Nur, one of the oldest veterans of the movement (see text 18). From summer 2015 through spring 2016 Boko Haram carried out a long string of suicide attacks, usually using young female suicide attackers, against mosques, market places, and refugee centers throughout the territories in northeastern Nigeria and northern Cameroon that it had controlled the previous year. Most probably, unless this was purely nihilistic violence, Shekau viewed these attacks as punishment for apostasy on the part of Boko Haram’s former subjects. Those numerous attacks against refugee centers are particularly indicative, as most of the people living in them are originally from towns and villages that were controlled by Boko Haram and are still too dangerous to return to. Nur attacks Shekau’s strategy in terms that are strongly reminiscent of al-Zawahiri’s attack upon al-Zarqawi in 2005...

Abstract:
Chapter three examines Reid’s elevation in the Party. When he finished his national service, Reid became a full-time officer of the YCL which entailed a move from Govan to London. From the provincial working-class culture of Govan he found himself rubbing shoulders with the metropolitan elite which include Michael Foot, Claude Cockburn, James Cameron and others. The first test of his commitment to the party came with the Hungarian Uprising of 1956. The event provoked high profile resignations of some leading Marxist historians, such as EP Thompson and Christopher Hill, but was not enough to shake Reid’s belief in the party and its leadership; indeed, it strengthened it. The chapter also deals with Reid’s domestic life in London as he married in 1958 and became a father soon after. A full-time official’s salary was too meagre to raise a family forcing Reid to resigned his post and return to Glasgow.
