Abstract:
The Black Lives Matter movement began as a social media hashtag (#BlackLivesMatter) by Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullers, and Opal Tometi to bring awareness when George Zimmerman was acquitted in the fatal shooting of Tayvon Martin in 2012. It gained momentum in 2014 after the police shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, with nationwide protests against the growing pattern of police-involved shootings of unarmed African American men. Social media has allowed the movement to organically grow by sharing videos, observations, and information.

The tomato borer Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) and the tobacco whitefly, Bemisia tabaci Genn. are major pests of tomato. The mirid bug Nesidiocoris tenuis Reuter is an effective natural enemy of whitefly and T. absoluta. In addition, some parasitoids from the Mediterranean basin havebeen found attacking T. absoluta and Necremnus tutae (Walker) This communication show the results from experiments conducted to develop a biologically based management strategy in tomato for T. absoluta and white fly control. It first shows the results evaluating an release method for Nesidiocoris tenuis. It was demonstr

The ‘Valencian Tomato’ is one of the traditional varieties of tomato with the most economic projection in current Valencian agriculture. Considering that this variety has not been the subject of genetic improvement, there are more and more problems with the incidence of diseases such as those caused by viruses and fungi in the cultivation fields of the Valencian vegetable orchards. This problem becomes particularly important in the case of soil diseases such as that caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici or nematodes of the genus Meloidogyne. Although there are strategies such as bios

Southern Europe is a secondary center of tomato diversification, especially in the Mediterranean basin, with a wide variety of types adapted to the environment. Recent studies have revealed extensive genetic and phenotypic variability, mainly related to fruit shape and color. In the Valencia region, the 'Valenciana' tomato is one of the most well-known and valued varieties, with three main typologies based on morphological characteristics. As visual classification is prone to errors, it is necessary to develop robust and reliable methods for classifying 'Valenciana' tomato accessions such as t

With the development of this experience during several consecutive campaigns, the aim was to evaluate, in the medium term, the effect of using biocidal plants in combination with a tomato monoculture, as well as the effect of using a tolerant tomato rootstock in a local selection of Valencian tomato. The experience was carried out at the Centro de Experiencias de Cajamar in Paiporta (Valencia). The commercial production, the waste production and the average weight of commercial fruits were analyzed, as well as agronomic aspects of the plant during and at the end of the crop. Abstract:
Tomato yellow leaf curl geminivirus (TYLCV) is a major pathogen of cultivated tomato, causing up to 100% crop loss in many parts of the world. In Israel the disease is well known and has an economic significance. In recent years viral symptoms were found in countries of the "New World" and since 1997, in Florida. Surprisingly, little is known about the molecular mechanisms of TYLCV interaction with the host plant cells. This proposal was aimed at expanding our understanding of the molecular mechanisms by which TYLCV enters the host cell nucleus. The main objective was to elucidate the TYLCV pr
