Abstract:
When collecting tongue images in an open en- vironment with a mobile portable collection device, there will be problems of different shooting angles and unstable lighting. Due to the strong mobility of the portable acquisition device, the captured images will inevitably be blurred by jitter, which further increases the difficulty of segmentation. This paper applies neural network to tongue images segmentation, and proposes a tongue images segmentation method based on deep convolutional neural network. This method is a tongue images segmentation method based on the semantic segmentation framework of DeeplabV3+. First, we modify the output category of the network. Because only the tongue region is segmented, segmentation targets can be divided into two categories when performing tongue images segmentation. One is the tongue region and the other is the background region. Then we replace the backbone network of DeeplabV3+ with a lightweight network and add an attention mechanism. Finally, we use the collected tongue images in the open environment to train the network. After the network obtains the initial segmentation result, tongue images are restored according to the same type of label, so as to obtain the required tongue images only containing tongues. The experimental results show that the method has higher segmentation accuracy for tongue images in open environment, and can better meet the needs of people for tongue images segmentation.

Abstract:
The aim of the study is to build a tongue image intelligent analysis “end-to-end” deep learning network based on a tongue diagnosis image of traditional Chinese medicine. The tongue target region in the original image was segmented by the UNet tongue segmentation model at the front end of the network. After segmentation, the feature vector of the tongue target region was extracted by the ResNet network, and then the blood pressure on the day of shooting was fused with the feature vector extracted by the ResNet network through the convolution operation method to complete the extraction of two groups of data of tongue feature and fusion feature. Based on analyzing the data of blood pressure, tongue image, and their fusion at the end of the network, four regression analysis methods were used to predict the stage mean value. After training, the model is tested with the test set data, and the test results are evaluated with mean absolute error (MAE). The prediction error of the model based on the fusion data of tongue image and blood pressure on the day of shooting was lower than that of the other two data modes. The UNet tongue segmentation model combined with the ResNet network can realize the automatic extraction of tongue image features. The extracted features combined with machine learning modeling can be used to explore the complex hierarchical mathematical association between tongue image and clinical data. The experimental results show that the multimodal data fusion method is an important way to mine the clinical value of the TCM tongue image.

Abstract:
Intelligent Traditional Chinese Medicine can provide people with a convenient way to participate in daily health care. The ease of acceptance of Traditional Chinese Medicine is also a major advantage in promoting health management. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, tongue imaging is an important step in the examination process. The segmentation and processing of the tongue image directly affects the results of intelligent Traditional Chinese Medicine diagnosis. As intelligent Traditional Chinese Medicine continues to develop, remote diagnosis and patient participation will play important roles. Smartphone sensor cameras can provide irreplaceable data collection capabilities in enhancing interaction in smart Traditional Chinese Medicine. However, these factors lead to differences in the size and quality of the captured images due to factors such as differences in shooting equipment, professionalism of the photographer, and the subject’s cooperation. Most current tongue image segmentation algorithms are based on data collected by professional tongue diagnosis instruments in standard environments, and are not able to demonstrate the tongue image segmentation effect in complex environments. Therefore, we propose a segmentation algorithm for tongue images collected in complex multi-device and multi-user environments. We use convolutional attention and extend state space models to the 2D environment in the encoder. Then, cross-layer connection fusion is used in the decoder part to fuse shallow texture and deep semantic features. Through segmentation experiments on tongue image datasets collected by patients and doctors in real-world settings, our algorithm significantly improves segmentation performance and accuracy.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to analyze the cavitation dynamics in the blade channel of a centrifugal pump with a particular focus on the direct influence of the pump’s volute. Design/methodology/approach – A homogeneous multiphase model, namely the Zwart-Gerber-Belamri cavitation model, is employed to numerically describe the evolution of the process of cavitation within the pump. The RNG k-e turbulence model is applied to analyze the unsteady turbulent flow. A second order implicit formulation is used for the time discretization for the unsteady flow calculation and a finite volume algorithm is used for the space discretization. Findings – The cavities in the passage exhibit an obvious life cycle which includes initiation, growth, contraction, and separation, and collapse with a frequency corresponding to the impeller rotation frequency under off-design conditions. This phenomenon arises through an alternating interaction between reverse flow with the cavity interface and is associated with the response of the vortex region to the effect of uneven pressure distribution on volute and impeller-tongue interaction. Originality/value – This study simulated and analyzed the complex transient cavitation flow patterns inside a centrifugal pump and explains the reason for the unsteadiness. This knowledge is instructive in achieving the stable operation of pumps and in trouble shooting rough or cavitating operation.

Abstract:
Abstract Background and object Foix-Chavany-Marie syndrome (FCMS) is a rare type of pseudobulbar palsy, which is characterized by anarthria or severe dysarthria and bilateral central facio-linguo-velo-pharyngo-mastigatory paralysis with “automatic voluntary dissociation”. We report on a patient who suffered a reversible FCMS following a spear gun trauma through the cranial base leading to right operculo-insular contusion. Case Report This 28-year-old lady attempted suicide by shooting a spear gun into the head through her right submandibular region. Major vessel injury was ruled out and the patient was taken to the operating room for shaft removal. Postoperatively, we observed the mouth half open, drooling saliva, inability to move her tongue, anarthria, bilateral facial weakness, and loss of the gag reflex. Yawning was otherwise preserved resulting in a clinical diagnosis of FCMS. Postoperative imaging demonstrated a right operculoinsular contusion. Symptoms were fully recovered after two years of follow-up. Conclusion FCMS is a rare and severe form of pseudobulbar palsy. Unilateral lesions are exceptional but should be recognized, as we presented. Generally, the outcome is moderate to poor but the occurrence in brain trauma can be associated with complete functional recovery.

Abstract:
The Kolka Glacier, which rushed down the Genaldon valley on September 20, 2002 (North Ossetia), is now recovering after this catastrophe. One of the most important ways to predict a new disaster is to determine the rate of ice accumulation of the new glacier and to monitor the glacier volume regularly, since its trigger mechanisms have not yet been fully studied. Recent changes of the Kolka Glacier were investigated by means of ground stereoscopic photography. The field works were carried out in 2014, 2016 and 2017. Shooting was made manually with a digital camera Canon 5D Mark II (without using a tripod) at arbitrary points, the distance between which did not exceed 100 m. The reference points were placed on the elevated relief forms on the glacier surface and coordinated by a differential GNSS receiver in the "fast static" mode. Laboratory processing of the photos was performed using Agisoft Photoscan software in automatic mode, except for the procedure of identification of reference points on stereo images. The processing made possible to obtain digital models of the glacier surface in Geo-TIFF format, the vertical error of which amounted to 0.7 m, while the horizontal one – 2.3 m. In 2014–2017, the maximal increase in height of the surface (up to 30 m) was recorded in the low part of the glacier tongue that was the result of advancing of the Kolka front along the ice-free surface. Mean annual increase in the surface elevation was equal to 2.2 m/year. Lowering of the surface in some areas may be explained by the slowing-down of the glacier flow rate, which led to the appearance of thermokarst. The glacier volume increased by 7.4±0.7 million m3. As a result, the glacier tongue advanced by 50–70 m. Average over 2014–2017 increasing in the surface elevation (2.2 m/year) was slightly smaller than in 2004–2014 (3 m/year). Quick growth of the Kolka Gacier contrasts sharply with decreasing of volume of the representative Caucasus, Djankuat and Garabashi, over the same period.

Abstract:
On January 25, 2017, President Donald Trump signed Executive Order 13768, which marked the first federal action targeting American sanctuary cities and fulfilled one of Trump’s key campaign promises. Sanctuary cities, which do not permit local officials to inquire into immigration status and may decline ICE detainer requests, have been in existence since the early 1980s, but the shooting of Kathryn Steinle in 2015 brought them renewed attention. Ms. Steinle’s accidental shooting by an undocumented immigrant, Jose Ines Garcia Zarate, ignited a firestorm of controversy over these policies. Garcia Zarate had been released by the SFPD based on San Francisco’s sanctuary policy, leading then-candidate Donald Trump to make a promise to “end” sanctuary cities a key part of his campaign for president. Yet many Americans know very little about sanctuary policies despite their growing importance in the debate over undocumented immigration and the incorporation of immigrant communities. In this work, Drs. Collingwood and Gonzalez O’Brien provide the first comprehensive examination of sanctuary cities in the United States. Analyzing the historical evolution of these policies, the tone and tenor of media coverage, public opinion, state-level sanctuary legislation, and the effect these policies have on crime rates and Latino political incorporation, the authors hope to provide researchers, members of the public, and lawmakers with the tools to objectively assess the value of sanctuary legislation.

Abstract:
Abstract Glossopharyngeal neuralgia (GPN) is a rare condition that can develop spontaneously with or without vascular compression or secondary to nerve injury, including injury from head and neck cancer. Patients typically present with debilitating shooting or stabbing pain affecting the throat, tongue, pharynx, larynx, and ear. Augmented interconnections with central vagal tracts can also cause hypotension and syncope. Pharmacologic treatment is generally used as first-line therapy and includes anticonvulsants, gabapentinoids, tricyclic antidepressants, and others. When medical therapy fails, surgeries and interventions are used. Microvascular decompression, percutaneous rhizotomy, and gamma knife radiosurgery can all provide symptomatic relief. Recently, minimally invasive rhizotomy has been shown to successfully treat both primary and secondary GPN with long-lasting therapeutic benefit. Technological advances including flat-panel C-arm CT guidance have allowed for safer and more precise interventions on the glossopharyngeal nerve via a lateral cervical peripheral styloid process approach that targets the nerve distal to the jugular foramen.

Abstract:
Chapter 1 investigates the cultural politics underlying waisheng Taiwanese auteurs Li Xing’s and Wang Tong’s adaptations of two xiangtu literature classics, China, My Native Land (1981) and A Flower in the Rainy Night (1983). By experiencing and imaging their shooting locations in South Korea and Northeastern Taiwan as places symbolizing an impossible longing for their homeland, Li Xing and Wang Tong perform exilic identities that hybridize motifs of geopolitical displacement from official narratives of nation building and the nomadic subjectivities of bensheng protagonists in xiangtu literature. These productions thus constitute novel experiments in forging an intersubjectively imagined community, boldly crossing what were then clear divides between waisheng and bensheng structures of feeling. Through intertextual analysis of representations of travel in these films, their production narratives, media reports on the productions, and tourist guidebooks to the shooting locations, this chapter shows that unifying bensheng, waisheng, and popular structures of feeling at the time were ironic images of Taiwan as a place haunted by melodramatic anticipation for unfulfilled cultural aspirations. Through these productions, Taiwan was imaged as a place that could not yet be called home, but a space from which one could “appreciate from afar” the possibility of homecoming.

Abstract:
This chapter focuses on the case study of the Las Vegas mass shooting. Utilizing analyses of news media content and results from interviews with gun violence prevention (GVP) advocates, it explores the policy debates occurring after this shooting. Findings indicate that within the news media coverage the two main targets for policy change were bump stock devices and assault weapons. Bump stock devices had a direct link to the shooting and ended up banned; however, there are some issues with the way this measure was passed. There was also no traction on renewing the assault weapons ban. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the news media coverage was shown to adopt a defeatist tone indicating that no policy reform was expected to take place, citing a lack of action after previous incidents and the current political landscape as the reasons why nothing would happen.

This chapter emphasizes various clues apparent from the patient’s history and physical examination. Observation of how a patient walks, talks, and undresses is discussed as a means of discerning clues to a diagnosis. Miscellaneous aspects of the history, particularly sensory symptoms, such as tingling in the hands, feet, and face, shooting leg pains, and neuropathy are described, and clues to psychogenic disorder are elaborated. Also emphasized is the value of inspecting the limbs, skin, and joints. Shortcuts are listed for the traditional physical motor examination, which involves tone, power, coordination, muscle stretch reflexes, and Babinski response. Shortcuts are also described for the sensory examination, using joint position sense, vibration sense, and sensory loss. The chapter concludes with an outline of how to analyze coma.

Abstract:
This chapter examines Carrie's transition from page to screen, which involved numerous changes to the style and tone of Stephen King's novel decided upon for creative and budgetary reasons by Brian De Palma and screenwriter Lawrence D. Cohen. Alterations to the final shooting script (the second draft of the adaptation) were brought about by a combination of time constraints, on set improvisation, and decisions made during post-production editing. Though the studio approved the second draft, a fairly rare occurrence in Hollywood, United Artists would waver on the project in other areas. Even given the horror genre's commercial and critical successes during the period, United Artists were, perhaps understandably, unconvinced that the adaptation of a debut novel by an experienced director still looking for a major commercial success was worth risking any more than the figure allocated. It is telling that the only real problem De Palma had with the project was in relation to those controlling the marketing of the movie. For De Palma, Carrie was a serious movie, with serious points to make about the cruelty of teenagers, the insidious effects of religious fervour, and the state of contemporary American society, regardless of it being wrapped up in supernatural trappings. United Artists, however, marketed Carrie as cheap popcorn entertainment.

Abstract:
Parametric resonances in a repulsive-force MEMS resonator are investigated. The repulsive force is generated through electrostatic fringe fields that arise from a specific electrode configuration. Because of the nature of the electrostatic force, parametric resonance occurs in this system and is predicted using Mathieu’s Equation. Governing equations of motion are solved using numerical shooting techniques and show both parametric and subharmonic resonance at twice the natural frequency. The primary instability tongue for parametric resonance is also mapped. This is of particular interest for MEMS sensors that require high signal-to-noise ratios due to the large oscillation amplitudes associated with parametric resonance.
