Abstract:
A tool magazine is one of the key functional components of machining centers with frequent faults. The reliability level of a tool magazine directly affects the reliability level of the machining center. After establishing a reliability test bench and a prognostic and health management system for a tool magazine, a novel fault-forecasting method for machining center tool magazines based on health assessment is proposed. First, the health status of each tool magazine subcomponent is determined using the grey clustering method. Second, the weight of each tool magazine subcomponent is determined using an entropy weight method. Third, the health status of the tool magazine is evaluated via fuzzy comprehensive evaluation. If the tool magazine exhibits an unhealthy status, then the subcomponent with the worst health status is selected for fault forecasting. In addition, standardized treatment, stationarity test, and differential processing are conducted separately on the raw performance indicator data of the worst subcomponent. Finally, the performance indicators of the worst subcomponent are forecasted with the constructed autoregressive moving average model. Using tool-falling failure as an example, the forecasted and experimental tool-pulling forces are compared and analyzed, and the prediction accuracy of the proposed method is verified.

Abstract:
Tool magazine and automatic tool changer is important parts to fulfill the machining center tool reserve and automatic changing of the spindle tool. The reliability of them directly affects the performance of the host. But recently there are no researches on the reliability evaluation methods, so considering this situation, the reliability evaluation researches on CNC machine tools and their main parts at home and abroad are analyzed and concluded. Combining the collected failure data of the circular tool magazine and automatic tool changer, use MTBF (Mean Time between Failures), MTTR (Mean Time To Repair) and the inherent availability index to realize the reliability evaluation of the circular tool magazine and automatic tool changer. Thus put forward a method to study the reliability evaluation of circular tool magazine and automatic tool changer.

Abstract:
In the machine manufacturing industry, CNC machine tools possess many advantages and have gradually become the leading machine tools to replace the ordinary machine tools. According to their processing usages, they can be divided into two kinds: general CNC and NTC. With the automatic tool change device consisting of tool magazine and mechanical arm, the latter can complete the most, if not all, processings of workpieces in a clamping. According to the instruction to select tools from the digital control system, the tools in the tool magazine can be located to the position for tool change, which is called automatic tool selection. Automatical tool selection can be implemented at random and sequentially. This paper focuses on random tool selection in ATC tool magazine controlled by Mitsubishi FX2N PLC series.

Abstract:
As the tool magazine and automatic tool changer (ATC) are the important function units to reserve and change tools for the machining center, the tool-changing rate affects their reliability life which directly influences the performance level of the machining center. However, the reliability of the tool magazine and ATC has not yet got a reasonable evaluation index. Directing at the features of the tool magazine and ATC system, the mean tool change numbers between failures evaluation index is proposed, which is used to calculate the mean time to repair and estimate the collected failure data of the chain-type tool magazine and ATC. It can be seen that the tool magazine with continuous tool-changing adopts the mean tool change numbers between failures as the reliability evaluation index.

Abstract:
Unlike other magazines, few people subscribe to wedding magazines and, as most are annual publications, their presence on the publishing landscape is relatively intermittent and unobtrusive. Nevertheless, these publications provide a rich context for examining intersections between advertisements and editorials. In this paper, I draw on ethnographic and textual analysis of wedding magazines produced in Australia. I argue that the distinction between advertisement and editorial is not a useful analytical tool in this context. This is because the vast majority of advertisements and editorial pages in a wedding magazine appear almost identical: page after page of glossy photographs of wedding dresses. Rather, what is striking is the manner in which the magazine editors and advertising clients, in their discussions as each magazine issue is produced, negotiate the fine distinctions they perceive between advertising and editorial content. At stake in these negotiations is not just the economic success of both editor and client, but also their reputations as expert manipulators of symbolic representations.

Students who write a piece of writing need a perfect tool to engage themselves to write even when they are not interested in writing at all. One of the perfect tools to engage the students in writing process is creating a magazine as it offers students to publish their writing. Publication, according to Lange (1992) is a great tool to engage students to write, involving even those who do not consider themselves to be writers. This paper explores the implementation of writing and publishing a magazine in a writing class in one of the universities in Bandung. The class applies project-based learning as its teaching method.

Abstract:
This study aimed to investigate how the use of digital technology can contribute to both the development of writing in Portuguese classes as for multiletramento students. Since digital technologies for information and communication are increasingly embedded in students everyday lives, it is expected that the school follow this trend and bring these technologies into the classroom, making a link between school practices and the reality that some the student outside the school walls. However, advanced technology gadgets are purchased, installed, and often do not cease to be mere ornaments, as teachers who could use them to do the same, have not been taught, trained and prepared for this. On the other hand, since childhood students are connected, learning to handle all these accessories practical and versatile, once limited by the impossibility of easy mobility. Taking into account this possibility, we took as the focus of this research, the proposed modification of an annual project of the discipline of Portuguese, whose initial goal was the production of printed magazines, but which now has as its purpose the production of magazines virtual, which would be published on a blog created especially for such finality. The magazines were developed by students of the 8th year in a private school, which were divided into groups, and each group was responsible for producing a magazine for be developed according to criteria determined by the group. Of all the productions, three were selected for review. The items analyzed were: the covers, the introduction of the main story and the stories of each key. Analyses were made on the theoretical bias of Literacy, Digital Literacy and Language Virtual. The results pointed to the fact that not just change the way in which production is published, it is necessary that teachers and students know how to use the tools and technology resources to make it happen in fact the development of a virtual magazine. However, it was noticed that the use of technology was done only as a tool and not as a resource.

Abstract:
This study reveals the previously hidden impact of Ebony magazine as a major producer and disseminator of popular black history during the second half of the twentieth century, stretching from its formation in 1945 to its role in the movement to establish a national holiday for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during the 1980s. Benefitting from unprecedented access to new archival materials at Chicago State and Emory University, it focuses on the impact of Lerone Bennett, Jr., the magazine’s in-house historian and senior editor. More broadly, West highlights the value placed upon Ebony’s role as a “history book” by its contributors and readers. Using Ebony as a window into the trajectory of the post-war “modern black history revival”, this study offers a bold reinterpretation of the magazine’s place within modern American cultural and intellectual history and highlights its role as a critical tool for black history empowerment and education on a local, national and international scale.

Abstract:
This chapter examines the explicit conventions and implicit assumptions of magazine producers about medium-specific content. It first considers the complexities of media convergence before discussing the tension between medium-specific cultures and the rhetoric of cross-platform branding in women's magazines, leading to theoretical and conceptual questions about medium identity. It then describes how producers' working patterns and assumptions vary across different media (web, magazine, and iPad) in three significant ways: the importance of the editorial voice, quality standards for editorial content, and expectations about the extent of advertiser influence on content. It also highlights the distinctions between print and online; tablet devices, for example, are being positioned as a tool that can elide medium-specific challenges while also serving as a test bed for advertising/editorial relations within digital environments. The chapter suggests that magazine content does not appear to easily flow off the printed page, but goes through many crosscurrents.

Abstract:
Krokodil produced state-sanctioned satirical comments on Soviet and international affairs from 1922 onward. Authored by professional and non-professional contributors, and published by Pravda in Moscow, it became the satirical magazine with the largest circulation in the world. Every Soviet citizen and every scholar of the USSR was familiar with Krokodil as the most significant and influential source of graphic satire in the USSR. This book uses an original framework for reconsidering the forms, production, consumption, and functions of Krokodil magazine. It considers the magazine's content, structures and conventions; it also uses modern cultural and media theory to look beyond content analysis to consider visual language and the performative construction of character. Empirical analysis of Krokodil is thus used to extend and nuance our understanding of Soviet graphic satire beyond state-sponsored propaganda. In several ways, this book challenges existing approaches. It conducts close readings of a large range of different types of cartoons that have not before been discussed in depth, and it does so in ways that reveal new insights. It shows that Krokodil's satire was complex, subtle and intermedial. It highlights the importance of Krokodil's readers' and artists' collaborative exploration and shaping of the boundaries of permissible discourse, and it argues that Krokodil's cartoons simultaneously affirmed, refracted and critiqued official discourses, counterposing them with visions of Soviet citizens' responses. Ideology, Krokodil's satire suggests, is an interpretive tool for negotiating everyday reality and official discourses, and it was not always to be taken seriously.

Abstract:
AbstractThis chapter examines the rise of literary advice in Anglo-American periodical culture from 1884 to 1895. Capitalizing on a moment when fiction became both more self-consciously artistic and more potentially lucrative, literary advice of this era addressed the full range of literary practice and the attendant practical activities that made it possible. The chapter resituates the landmark “Art of Fiction” debate (1884)—an event crucially sponsored by the magazines—as the opening of an era of practical discussion that was soon after taken up in trade journals devoted specifically to authorship. The practical advice dispensed by these journals—including tools, tricks, tips, and gossip—focuses on the form of the short story, creating a loop with a form that was itself a magazine staple. This interactive looping is considered in the conclusion, where the chapter examines a systematic course in literary art offered by Atalanta, a late-Victorian “Girl’s Magazine.”

Abstract:
This chapter considers how the magazine's satire resisted, disrupted or traversed boundaries and, rather than interpreting the magazine as the uncomplicated propaganda tool of the Soviet state, suggests how Krokodil may better be understood as a Menippean satire, according to Bakhtin's definition, and a "politcarnival" development in a long Russo-European satirical tradition. This new explanation of Krokodil's satire highlights the journal's heterogeneity and heteroglossia (multivoicedness), and explains Krokodil as a site of ongoing, intertextual, subtle, serio-comic critical counter-commentaries on Soviet orthodoxies and political policy. Interpreting Krokodil as a Menippean satire provides a theoretical basis for the observation that the magazine comprised diverse intertextual satirical critiques, and it thus clarifies the dialogic relationships between different schemata, and shows that (for example through the magazine's red crocodile avatar, who may be interpreted as a trickster) the magazine's satire of domestic subjects may be subtler and more implicit than its criticisms of non-socialist ideologies.

Abstract:
This chapter explores short-story film fictions, tie-ins fan magazines stories and novelettes. It considers how they addressed and represented female spectators, particularly through the genre of romance. Such stories offered a range of different forms of screen fantasy that encouraged an active, intermedial readership. Film magazines in particular provided platforms for consuming fiction in which women were exposed to a diversity of forms of female representations, within the fictions themselves but also within the wider context of the reading material. Offering female readers escapist and aspirational models of womanhood through romance and adventure genre tropes, the tie-in short story constitutes a textual element that cannot be read in isolation from the intermedial framework of the magazine as a whole. Fiction was one tool amidst a range of content across the magazine articulating ideas and images of modern femininity. Magazine content created star images through representations of cosmetics, dress, domestic labour and public and private life, in advertising, interviews and images. The chapter will argue that varied models of womanhood could be tried out and tested through fictional forms positioned amidst these intersecting discourses, positing female identities as a form of masquerade, tied to the image of the female star.

Abstract:
Melanie Tebbutt’s essay traces some of the changes which transformed working-class culture after the Second World War through an analysis of the personal advice pages of teenage magazines, an important expression of girls’ culture between the mid-1950s and late-1970s. Tebbutt takes as her subject Mirabelle magazine, widely read by girls in this period, although its popularity has been largely over-shadowed by the most popular teenage magazine of the time, which was Jackie. Advice pages in teenage magazines from the 1950s and 1960s have received less attention that those of the later decades of the twentieth-century and Tebbutt traces the changes which took place in queries and answers, from the time of Mirabelle’s publication, in 1956, when its advice column was identified with a marriage bureau in central Manchester, to ceasing production in 1977, by which time discussion of sexual matters, including pregnancy outside marriage, had become more open. Magazines aimed at the teenage market were an important source of sexual information for young people and this essay offers a nuanced analysis of Mirabelle’s advice pages which suggests there is considerable scope for comparative studies.

The early portion investigates the religious products he touted, most centrally, his systematic, practical method for God-realization through yoga—in the innovative form of a correspondence course. Yogananda’s instruction inculcated a larger Hindu worldview, not just a set of meditative techniques. His East-West magazine was a promotional tool designed to highlight his brand’s distinctiveness. The chapter also explores the way the yogi, like evangelists of the time, promoted his message to a modern American audience saturated in savvy advertising and modern products. The final section considers the hazards of the religious market, including negative press attention and several lawsuits that threatened his brand image as well as his solvency just as the Depression arrived.

Abstract:
How does one study medical discourse in Romantic periodicals? This methodological essay outlines a range of possible approaches in a digital age, taking Blackwood’s as a test case. Its open by offering a series of practical steps for identifying medical articles in the magazine, including usings contents pages, published and digital bibliographical materials, targeted keyword searches, and attribution indexes. One particularly difficulty is identifying and determining what constitutes a ‘medical article’, particularly in the case of magazines like Blackwood’s, where the tradition of explicitly categorising articles gave way to the miscellany format. This organizational shift gave rise to such generic hybrids such as the ‘medico-literary’ review and the ‘medico-popular’ short story. Arguing that the study of medical discourse in Blackwood’s will never be exhaustive with the manual and digital tools currently available, the remainder of this paper models how one might productively study identifiable strands of medical discourse in the magazine, focusing on a series of medico-literary reviews written by John Wilson in the character of ‘Christopher North’.

Abstract:
After his career move from the Saturday Evening Post to Cosmopolitan magazine, owned by William Randolph Hearst, Cobb continued to win awards for his brilliant storytelling. - A man who took great pride in his accomplishments, Cobb apparently cared little about critical approval; his only goal was to satisfy his reading public—the vast middle class that read poplar magazines and novels. Ellis reveals Cobb’s close relationship with his daughter Buff, who also pursued a writing career. Much of the chapter, however, focuses on Cobb’s writing in the mid to late 1920s as he continued to do what he did best—turning out popular and predictable articles and stories for Hearst publications. Cobb was one of the highest paid writers of his time.

Abstract:
Abstract The purpose of this paper is to present a design methodology for the configuration synthesis of machining centers with automatic tool changer to meet the required topology and motion characteristics. According to the concept of coordinate systems, graph theory, generalization, specialization, and motion synthesis, this design methodology is proposed and computerized, and the machining centers with automatic tool changer up to eight links are synthesized. As the result, for the machining centers with drum type tool magazine, the numbers of configurations of machining centers with 6, 7, and 8 links are 2, 13, and 20, respectively. And, for the machining centers with linear type tool magazine, the numbers of configurations of machining centers with 5, 6, 7, and 8 links are 1, 5, 20, and 60, respectively. Furthermore, this work provides a systematic approach for synthesizing spatial open-type mechanisms with topology and motion requirements.

Abstract:
A variety of methods exist for the assembly of microscale devices. One such strategy uses microscale force-fit pin insertion to assemble LIGA parts together. One of the challenges associated with this strategy is the handling of small pins which are 170 microns in diameter and with lengths ranging from 500 to 1000 microns. In preparation for insertion, a vibratory micro-pin feeder has been used to successfully singulate and manipulate the pins into a pin storage magazine. This paper presents the development of a deterministic model, simulation tool, and methodology in order to identify and analyze key performance attributes of the vibratory micro-pin feeder system. A brief parametric study was conducted to identify the effects of changing certain system parameters on the bulk behavior of the system, namely the capture rate of the pins. Results showing trends have been obtained for a few specific cases. These results indicate that different system parameters can be chosen to yield better system performance.

Abstract:
Abstract: Along his personal search for an ideal and universal order, Le Corbusier constantly refers to the use of the tracés regulateurs, as a mathematical tool with which the architect can manage his creative impulse and as a way to introduce the harmony in architecture, what is considered the main cause of the beauty and the aesthetic pleasure. Le Corbusier reveals his faith in the tracés as guaranty of architectural order not only in the magazine L´Espirit Nouveau (1921) but also in his celebrated book “Vers une architecture” (1923). The aim of this paper is to analyze the use of the tracés regulateurs during the architect´s projects throughout a decade, starting with the publication of the well know manifiesto. All the projects that had been studied have established the guidelines of the analysis, its historical evolution and the relevance of the tracès regulateurs in Le Corbusier’s early works. In ASME 2014 International Design Engineering Technical Conferences and Computers and Information in Engineering Conference. Abstract:
Design-by-analogy, including bio-inspired design, is a powerful tool for innovation and engineers need better tools to enhance ideation. To support tool creation, an exploratory cross-sectional empirical product study of 70 analogy-inspired products is conducted to report trends and associations among factors in the analogy-inspired design process, giving a general account of real-world practices. Products are randomly sampled from three technology magazines and a bioinspired design database. Seven variables are developed and used to classify each example according to design team composition, analogy mapping approach, analogies used, and design outcomes. Results suggest few differences between problem-driven approaches, which start from a design problem and find solutions in analogous domains, and solution-driven approaches, which begin with knowledge in an analog domain and find design problems to solve. For instance, results suggest that both approaches yield products at about the same frequency, and both yield products with improved performance at statistically-indistinguishable rates — thus, neither approach can be presently concluded to be advantageous over the other for improving product performance. Overall, few associations are detected between design outcome variables and other variables, thus precluding recommendations for how to compose design teams, what approaches to promote, and what number and source of analogies to support in order to achieve the outcomes measured in this study.

Abstract:
«The electronic magazine with rating system of an estimation of individual and collective work of students» (EM) is developed in document Microsoft Excel with use of macros. EM allows to automate all the calculated operations connected with estimation of amount scored by students in each form of the current control. EM provides automatic calculation of rating of the student with reflection of a maximum quantity of the points received in given educational group. The rating equal to “1” is assigned to the student who has got a maximum quantity of points for the certain date. For the other students the share of their points in this maximum size is indicated. The choice of an estimation is made in an alphabetic format according to requirements of the European translation system of test units for the international recognition of results of educational outcomes (ECTS - European Credit Transfer System), by use of a corresponding scale of an estimation. The list of students is placed on the first page of magazine and automatically displayed on all subsequent pages. For each page of magazine the optimal size of document printing is set with automatic enter of current date and time. Owing to accounting rate of complexity of task EM is the universal technical tool which can be used for any subject matter.
