Abstract:
Few, if any, political scientists currently study climate change adaptation or are even aware that there is a large and growing interdisciplinary field of study devoted not just to mitigating greenhouse gas emissions but to reducing our vulnerability to the now-inevitable impacts of climate change. The lack of political science expertise and research represents an obstacle for adapting to climate change, because adaptation is fundamentally political. Technical advances in adaptations for infrastructure, agriculture, public health, coastal protection, conservation, and other fields all depend on political variables for their implementation and effectiveness. For example, adaptation raises questions about political economy (adaptation costs money), political theory (adaptation involves questions of social justice), comparative politics (some countries more aggressively pursue adaptation), urban politics (some cities more aggressively pursue adaptation), regime type (democracies and authoritarian regimes may differently pursue adaptation), federalism (different levels of government may be involved), and several other fields of study including political conflict, international development, bureaucracy, migration, media, political parties, elections, civil society, and public opinion. I review the field of climate change adaptation and then explore the tremendous contributions that political scientists could make to adaptation research.

Abstract:
Purpose: The aim of this study is to analyze the research trends of articles on just graduated Korean nurses during the past 10 years for exploring strategies for clinical adaptation. Methods: The topics of new graduate nurses were extracted from 110 articles that have been published in Korean journals between January 2010 and July 2020. Abstracts were retrieved from 4 databases (DBpia, RISS, KISS and Google scholar). Keywords were extracted from the abstracts and cleaned using semantic morphemes. Network analysis and topic modeling were performed using the NetMiner program. Results: The core keywords included ‘education’, ‘training’, ‘program’, ‘skill’, ‘care’, ‘performance’, and ‘satisfaction’. In recent articles on new graduate nurses, three major topics were extracted by Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) techniques: ‘turnover’, ‘adaptation’, ‘education’. Conclusion: Previous articles focused on exploring the factors related to the adaptation and turnover intentions of new graduate nurses. It is necessary to conduct further research focused on various interventions at the individual, task, and organizational levels to improve the retention of new graduate nurses.

Abstract:
Fever is the regulation of body temperature at an elevated "set point." Contact with a variety of pathogens, such as viruses or bacteria, will result in the release of a small protein, endogenous pyrogen or interleukin 1, from the host's white blood cells. This protein circulates to the brain where it is thought to raise the temperature set point via the production of a prostaglandin. Fevers occur throughout the vertebrates. The cold-blooded vertebrates (fishes, amphibians, reptiles) raise their body temperature by behaviorally selecting a warmer microhabitat. Warm-blooded vertebrates (birds and mammals) use both physiological and behavioral means to raise core temperature. Over the past decade data from both in vitro and in vivo studies support the hypothesis that moderate fevers are beneficial to the host;that is, fever as evolved as an adaptation to reduce the severity of infection.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of the links between climate finance and tourism adaptation development. Besides increasing adaptation and mitigation efforts to limit greenhouse gas emissions, climate change remains a major challenge in the twenty-first century and beyond especially for tourism which is highly climate sensitive. Hence, it is necessary for tourism to adapt to survive. The aim of the study is to provide a systematic overview of the topic to offer a foundation for better understanding different ways of integrating climate finance initiatives with tourism. Design/methodology/approach The research focused on the top-ranked, peer reviewed journals of each of the two selected research fields. To address this topic, an in-depth systematic literature review in the fields of climate change finance and tourism adaptation development was conducted. Furthermore, because it is a relatively new research topic, conference proceedings were also explored. To guarantee wide coverage of the literature, a query of the following scholarly databases was considered: Elsevier, ScienceDirect and Web of Science. Findings Based on the analyses of the literature available on the topic, the paper highlights the main research trends and conclusions. It is argued that there is imbalance of knowledge on climate change finance as it relates to tourism. To date, there have been relatively few published articles on this topic in the context of tourism. Based on the findings, promising areas for future research were identified, and in particular for small island communities and recommendations for future research are outlined. Research limitations/implications The paper is limited by the scope of the literature review accessed by the researcher. The results of this review may vary according to the databases used. Originality/value Currently, there is no extensive review of articles on climate finance and tourism adaptation. This paper aims at reviewing climate finance studies published in English language to explore knowledge gaps in tourism adaptation. Sets of themes being advanced are also highlighted. Recommendations for future research are provided.

Abstract:
This paper presents a novel unsupervised domain adaptation framework, called Synergistic Image and Feature Adaptation (SIFA), to effectively tackle the problem of domain shift. Domain adaptation has become an important and hot topic in recent studies on deep learning, aiming to recover performance degradation when applying the neural networks to new testing domains. Our proposed SIFA is an elegant learning diagram which presents synergistic fusion of adaptations from both image and feature perspectives. In particular, we simultaneously transform the appearance of images across domains and enhance domain-invariance of the extracted features towards the segmentation task. The feature encoder layers are shared by both perspectives to grasp their mutual benefits during the end-to-end learning procedure. Without using any annotation from the target domain, the learning of our unified model is guided by adversarial losses, with multiple discriminators employed from various aspects. We have extensively validated our method with a challenging application of crossmodality medical image segmentation of cardiac structures. Experimental results demonstrate that our SIFA model recovers the degraded performance from 17.2% to 73.0%, and outperforms the state-of-the-art methods by a significant margin.

Abstract:
Climate change is a concerning topic, as it is impossible to deny its damaging effects on the planet. Different policy responses have been offered regarding climate change adaptation, and these have brought forward issues related to climate justice. As this topic is still not very well known in Brazil, this paper aims to raise awareness on climate justice concepts and related issues. This is a literature review which analyses climate justice theories and their relation with the concept of climate change adaptation in order to offer a new point-of-view on the topic. This paper has come to the conclusion that the concept of climate change has been created due to the increased importance of climate justice. Its origins lie in climate change activism, which seeks to help the most affected communities. That was when the fight for sharing the burden of climate change emerged, giving rise to the concepts of mitigation and climate adaptation. Thus, the most affected populations should receive assistance in the form of climate change impact adaptation, financed by the countries which are responsible for most greenhouse effect gas emissions, in name of climate justice.

Abstract:
Climate change presents the need and opportunity for what the Stern report called ‘major, non-marginal change’. Such transformational adaptation is rapidly emerging as a serious topic in agriculture. This paper provides an overview of the topic as it applies to agriculture, focusing on the Australian situation. It does so by first defining transformational adaptation, distinguishing it from other more incremental but overlapping modes of climate change adaptation and positing its emergence in agriculture as a response to both drivers and opportunities. The multiple dimensions of transformational adaptation are highlighted before two types or cases are focussed upon in order to tease out issues and highlight two major examples of transformation in agriculture in the past. Four key issues about climate change adaptation in agriculture particularly pertinent for transformational adaptation are then reviewed: the identification, level, distribution and management of the costs of adaptation; the definition, potential for and need to avoid maladaptation; the capacity demands that this level of adaptation presents; and the role of government in adaptation. Overall, transformational adaptation poses potential great gains but also great risks. It reinforces the realisation that agricultural research can no longer remain insulated from off-farm, non-science or non-agricultural knowledge or processes. Support and guidance of transformational adaptation requires that we understand how Australian agriculture is currently, and could be, positioned within the landscape, rural communities, and broader social, political and cultural environment.

Abstract:
Genetic adaptation to extremes is a fascinating topic. Nevertheless, few studies have explored the genetic adaptation of closely related species respectively inhabiting distinct extremes. With deep transcriptome sequencing, we attempt to detect the genetic architectures of tadpoles of five closely related toad species adapted to the Tibetan Plateau, middle-altitude mountains and karst caves. Molecular evolution analyses indicated that not only the number of fast evolving genes (FEGs), but also the functioning coverage of FEGs, increased with elevation. Enrichment analyses correspondingly revealed that the highland species had most of the FEGs involved in high-elevation adaptation, for example, amino acid substitutions of XRCC6 in its binding domains might improve the capacity of DNA repair of the toad. Yet, few FEGs and positively selected genes (PSGs) involved in high-elevation adaptation were identified in the cave species, and none of which potentially contributed to cave adaptation. Accordingly, it is speculated that in the closely related toad tadpoles, genetic selection pressures increased with elevation, and cave adaptation was most likely derived from other factors (e.g., gene loss, pseudogenization or deletion), which could not be detected by our analyses. The findings supply a foundation for understanding the genetic adaptations of amphibians inhabiting extremes.

Abstract:
The objective of this paper is to present the findings and a set of hypotheses that emerged in the initial steps of an assessment study of air traffic controllers’ adoption and adaptation of new technologies, with the user request evaluation tool (URET) as a case study. The hypotheses are the basis for further study on this topic. The importance of this investigation is to provide a better understanding of changes brought about by the use of decision support tools by sector controller teams. The main purpose of URET is to support sector team strategic planning and allow controllers to concentrate on more user-beneficial control actions. Actual improvements depend on the way controllers use the automation tools in their work. Three aspects were noted about URET usage: ( a) different sector teams use it in different ways, ( b) in many instances URET usage differs from what was intended, and ( c) usage varies across centers. Subject matter experts were interviewed to explore how controllers have adopted and adapted URET across the mentioned variations. The goal of this research is to draw lessons from the experience with URET that can inform technology deployments in the future.

Abstract:
As the effects of climate change increase in severity, organizations across the world are attempting to measures to mitigate these effects. In accordance with the Paris Agreement of November 2015, wherein participating nations agreed to restrict the increase in global temperature below 2 °C, Japan has formulated guidelines on creating adaptation plans that can be implemented by local governments. A Climate Change Adaptive Information Platform was also launched to promote understanding and cooperation by sharing information on climate risks. However, the literature on this topic lacks information related to the organization of requirements and challenges faced by municipal administrative officials that formulate adaptation plans. To address these issues, we examined the four municipal forums hosted at Hosei University to encourage administrative needs for new technological ideas in areas such as climate modeling and impact assessment. We used text mining on the transcripts of the various workshops conducted in these forums and attempted to understand the changes in discussions and to extract issues related to the formulation process. The results showed that various topics, such as creating adaptation promotion systems, assessing the impacts of climate change, formulating adaptation plans, communicating with related organizations and stakeholders, developing human resources, and capacity building, were discussed, and a need for information, procedures, and assistance was identified for the formulation of feasible adaptation plans. This study is expected to provide a useful reference to stakeholders involved in framing adaptation plans to mitigate the effects of climate changes, particularly at the municipal level.

This paper reports on a study conducted to explore the challenges faced by Pakistani university entrants in adapting to university culture. Several studies have been conducted on first-year experience and challenges faced by students in adaptation to university culture globally. However, this was the first study conducted on this topic in the Pakistani context. Key adaptation categories studied were: academic, social, linguistic, and environmental adaptation. The data was collected through a quantitative questionnaire dispensed to 180 first year undergraduate students enrolled in a public-sector university in Pakistan. The findings revealed that many of the adaptation challenges faced by the Pakistani university entrants in this study are similar to those in the Western contexts and other international settings. However, this study also found that some demands of the university culture pose bigger challenges to the Pakistani university entrants.

Abstract:
In today’s world, management has a great influence on functioning and development of enterprises. The process of personnel management carries one of the main components of the process — adaptation. The issues of professional adaptation were investigated both in domestic and in foreign publications. Despite the large number of scientific works devoted to problems of adaptation of the personnel, the topic is still relevant, since many organizations do not pay enough attention to this process. In this paper, we have investigated one of the functions of personnel management — adaptation. Various literatures on the problems of professional adaptation was reviewed, the concept of “professional adaptation” is described, many factors that influence the adaptation of the staff are analyzed and presented. Also, we carried out a study to identify the problems inherent in the process of professional adaptation of employees in the industrial sector. On the basis of results the main problems were presented identified in the course of the study and some recommendations for elimination of deficiencies discovered in the process of adaptation in the industrial sector.

Abstract:
Currently, the Russian Federation is experiencing a transformation of migration flows from temporary to permanent. The largest share of migrants comes from the countries of Central Asia, where the demographic and economic situation stimulates a long-term increase in flows of labour migrants. In these conditions, it is necessary to examine issues of adaptation and integration of migrants. We review scientific literature on the adaptation practises of labour migrants. We applied the method of comparative analysis due to the importance the accumulated experience of European countries, which chose a policy of active integration. We analysed scientific publicactions, which are indexed in Scopus, Web of Science, E-library databases, and focused on the factors and models of adaptation of labour migrants from Central Asia in Russia and the countries of the European Union (EU). The study revealed the growing interest in the research topic, increased publication activity and joint research by representatives of different countries. In most cases, researchers note the role of social capital in the adaptation of migrants, the length of the acculturation process of migrants and the importance of participation of the host community in the process. We proposed to consider the experience of bilateral adaptation in the EU countries. As the flow of migrants to the EU countries from Central Asia increases, the interest in this topic on the part of Western researchers will grow. The research results can be used to improve efficiency in the research of migration processes.

Abstract:
The discipline of cadets of military institutes of the National Guard of Russia (Rosgvardiya) is a subject of the current study. It is developed from the perspective of the meta-individual world theory and with reference to adaptation and innovation. A cross-theoretical approach was used: twofold structure of discipline, adaptation and innovation, divergent thinking. Their integration was the topic of this research. The sample consisted of 227 junior cadets of the Perm Military Institute of Rosgvardiya - young men aged 17 to 22 years. Both direct and indirect (through creativity) effects of discipline on the scales of adaptation and innovation of the Kirton method were discovered. It was shown that discipline and adaptation-innovation, by interaction, create a polysystemic effect. It has been suggested that "novelty" is embedded in adaptation and that they together represent integration based on a dual format.

Abstract:
Within this opportunity to dialogue in commentary exchange about a previously conceived adaptation model, published in theJournal of Clinical Sport Psychology,we revisit the utility of our model (Schinke et al., 2012a) and consider Tamminen and Crocker’s (2014) critique of our earlier writing. We also elaborate on emotion and emotion regulation through explaining hedonistic and instrumental motives to regulate emotions. We draw on research from general and sport psychology to examine emotion regulation (Gross, 2010). We argue that when investigating emotion, or any topic in psychology, the process of drawing from knowledge in a different area of the discipline can be useful, especially if the existing knowledge base in that area is already well developed. In particular, we draw on research using an evolutionary perspective (Nesse & Ellsworth, 2009). Accounting for these issues, we clarify the adaptation framework, expand it, and arguably offer a model that has greater utility for use with athletes in relation to training and competition cycles and progressions throughout their career. We also clarify for the readership places of misinterpretation by the commentary authors, and perhaps, why these have resulted.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to present a review of existing models and tools for evaluating the adaptability of buildings. A baseline of the current state of the art in adaptability evaluation and adaptation decision support is established; from this baseline, gaps for future research are recommended. Design/methodology/approach A literature review was conducted to identify papers describing adaptability models and tools. The identified models were characterized based on their focus (new buildings, existing buildings, building life cycle), considered variables (physical and/or context features) and degree/type of validation. Findings Models can be grouped as those focusing on: evaluating adaptation decisions for existing buildings; the design of new buildings for future adaptation; and understanding adaptation throughout a building life cycle. Models focusing on existing building evaluation are further in development and validation than the other model types; as such, they are more suitable for use by practitioners. Another finding is that modeling of adaptability in buildings is still in its nascent stage and that data-driven quantitative modeling is a prime area for future research. Originality/value This paper is the first comprehensive review of models and tools for evaluating adaptability. Other works have evaluated the topic of adaptability more broadly, but this is the first paper to systematically characterize existing models and tools. Based on the review future, research topics are recommended.

The significance of the material presented in the article is due to the necessity of developing and implementing the latest information technologies at the study of higher mathematics using the systems of computer mathematics. The solution of the standard tasks of higher mathematics on the topic of differential equations involves the execution of bulky, similar arithmetic calculations and records. If there is an error in the calculation, its localization takes a lot of time, which leads to the student's quick fatigue. The concept of adaptation of SCM Maple to higher mathematics is suggested by creating a training Maple simulator on the topic "Linear homogeneous differential equations" in order to more effectively master students 'material, as well as to enhance students' learning and cognitive activity. The main results of the authors are presented in the field of development of the educational complex in higher mathematics, the main element of which are procedural simulators as well as procedure generators.

Abstract:
Corrections to the article made on November 24, 2020 The standardization/adaptation debate in cross-cultural advertising is a topic on which little consensus prevails and which remains heavily discussed. Using evolutionary psychology, this paper presents a typology of advertising cues and explains their cross-cultural relevance and transportability. The paper highlights three distinct categories – human universals (evolved similarities), local adaptations (evolved differences), and local socialization (differences not due to evolution). The paper contributes to advertising theory by providing a meta-framework for the study of cross-cultural similarities and differences in the processing of advertising cues. It further assists advertising practice by delivering a framework aiding in cross-cultural advertising copy decisions. By raising the questions that the paper poses to develop the proposed typology categories, advertisers can identify which advertising cues are malleable by advertising and which are based on innate human preferences and are relatively stable. With that knowledge in hand, advertisers can decide when and to what extent to use a standardization approach versus an adaptation approach.

Abstract:
Idiopathic scoliosis is a common orthopedic disease of unknown etiology in childhood that limits the patient’s activity for a lifetime. Treatment of idiopathic scoliosis includes both conservative and surgical methods and requires psychological consideration, which is important for the rehabilitation of patient with chronic disease. Systematic research on the psychological aspects of the treatment and rehabilitation of patients with idiopathic scoliosis in the form of analysis allows us to evaluate the medical and psychological approaches to the problem and to identify the factors contributing to the successful adaptation of the patient to chronic disease situation. Methodology. We selected the articles related to the psychological aspects of scoliosis and its treatment between 2017 and 2018. The primary selection included 16 publications, of which 2 were survey studies. Earlier foreign and domestic publications were also included in the analysis in order to compare the changes in treatment and rehabilitation approaches. Literature analysis. Idiopathic scoliosis was considered as a risk factor for psychological discomfort in the forms of stress, negative emotions, anxiety, distortion of the image of “I,” reduced self-esteem, and communication problems. These increase the risk of mental disorders, such as depression, suicidal tendencies, and psychological disadaptation. Discussion. Analysis allows us to highlight the most important topics in the studies of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis in recent years: topic on mental health/ill health in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS), theme of the psychological component of pain, topic on clinical psychological and social psychological factors that determine the course of the disease of the patients with AIS, quality of life of a child or adolescent with AIS, issues of psychological resources for adaptation to a chronic disease, topic on parents’ perception of their child’s illness, and topic on the psychological accompaniment of patients suffering from AIS. Conclusions. A modern approach to the study of idiopathic scoliosis suggests a point of view from a biopsychosocial model of the disease; therefore, it is necessary to consider various factors affecting the patient’s quality of life, including the psychological component of the disease. Psychological support of the treatment should focus on the formation of the patient’s active position in relation to his or her own life and active coping strategies with chronic disease.

Abstract:
The processes of globalization and internationalization are the main factors, which have made a great impact on the evolution of higher education in the last decades of the 21st century. The number of foreign higher degree students in Ukraine has grown at a significant rate in recent years, with the country offering a high quality higher education and, as a result, becoming one of the main European hubs attracting students from all over the world. In the article, the term “foreign student” is referred to any student who goes to another country in pursuit of learning. Since the emergence and popularization of the recent trend of studying abroad, the topic of adaptation of foreign students has become of the key interest among modern European scholars who have become concerned with studying the peculiarities, issues and challenges of living and learning in an unfamiliar social, cultural, and academic environment. With no doubt, studying abroad delivers new knowledge, experiences, and opportunities. However, the adaptation to a host country and a new environment that is far away from home countries, families, and friends, sometimes takes a long time. Moreover, usually, it is challenged with several difficulties including lack of motivation, discouragement, depression, stress, anxiety, psychological conditions, culture shock, loneliness, misunderstands, conflicts, communicating with peers, language incapability, understanding lectures, learning new social norms, and interacting with people from different cultural backgrounds. As a result, these stressors have a great impact on foreign students’ physical and psychological well-being and challenge their wish, motivation, opportunity and capability to participate fully in the process of the cultural and academic adaptation. Even if the universities and host society provide helpful sources and advantageous conditions to enhance the process of their adaptation, sharp differences in socio-communicative environments of the countries, as well as cultural and language differences pose several problems foreign students usually face influencing their present academic performance and future professional medical practices. In the article, the authors discuss the issues of the geographic, psychological, socio-cultural, and linguistic methods of adaptation that have an impact on foreign students’ academic performance, social integration, and career. The authors represent the findings of several studies on the topic exploring characteristic features of the adaptation of students in the higher education institutions of Ukraine. The general purpose of the article is to examine the adaptation using a theory-based explanatory approach. In this study, the adaptation is discussed as part of the social responsibilities of the universities and foreign students. On the one hand, higher education institutions must provide the necessary services and activities to help foreign students to combat the stressors they face in the process of adapting to the Ukrainian socio-cultural and educational environment. Moreover, universities need to ensure equal rights and opportunities for students’ participation in academic life, as well as apply the most effective methods of foreign language learning. On the other hand, foreign students must be motivated enough to take the advantage of the opportunities and resources provided by universities and be responsible for the success of their adaptation to the social and academic life of the host country.

Abstract:
Assessment and analysis of personnel costs of an organization is becoming increasingly important in modern conditions, determining, along with other indicators, the competitiveness of an economic entity. However, the calculation of personnel costs can not be performed based only on the data of traditional accounting for Russian organizations, which determines the relevance of the topic of the proposed work. The purpose of this work is to evaluate and analyze the organization’s adaptation costs for employees such as the client Department Manager. As a result of evaluating the productive and unproductive costs of adapting a client Department Manager, it was found that their assessment is possible on the basis of certain assumptions, unproductive adaptation costs exceed productive ones, which does not allow them to be ignored, and the total adaptation costs of one Manager are about 70,000 rubles, which gives an idea of the amount of personnel costs for all management functions. The expediency of accounting for personnel costs for each organization is justified.

Abstract:
Background With the rapid development of information and communication technologies, smart homes are being investigated as effective solutions for home health care. The increasing academic attention on smart home health care has primarily been on the development and application of smart home technologies. However, comprehensive studies examining the general landscape of diverse research areas for smart home health care are still lacking. Objective This study aims to determine the intellectual structure of smart home health care in a time series by conducting a coword analysis and topic analysis. Specifically, it investigates (1) the intellectual basis of smart home health care through overall academic status, (2) the intellectual foci through influential keywords and their evolutions, and (3) intellectual trends through primary topics and their evolutions. Methods Analyses were conducted in 5 steps: (1) data retrieval from article databases (Web of Science, Scopus, and PubMed) and the initial dataset preparation of 6080 abstracts from the year 2000 to the first half of 2019; (2) data preprocessing and refinement extraction of 25,563 words; (3) a descriptive analysis of the overall academic status and period division (ie, 4 stages of 3-year blocks); (4) coword analysis based on word co-occurrence networks for the intellectual foci; and (5) topic analysis for the intellectual trends based on latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA) topic modeling, word-topic networks, and researcher workshops. Results First, regarding the intellectual basis of smart home health care, recent academic interest and predominant journals and research domains were verified. Second, to determine the intellectual foci, primary keywords were identified and classified according to the degree of their centrality values. Third, 5 themes pertaining to the topic evolution emerged: (1) the diversification of smart home health care research topics; (2) the shift from technology-oriented research to technological convergence research; (3) the expansion of application areas and system functionality of smart home health care; (4) the increased focus on system usability, such as service design and experiences; and (5) the recent adaptation of the latest technologies in health care. Based on these findings, the pattern of technology diffusion in smart home health care research was determined as the adaptation of technologies, the proliferation of application areas, and an extension into system design and service experiences. Conclusions The research findings provide academic and practical value in 3 aspects. First, they promote a comprehensive understanding of the smart home health care domain by identifying its multifaceted intellectual structure in a time series. Second, they can help clinicians discern the development and dispersion level of their respective disciplines. Third, the pattern of technology diffusion in smart home health care could help scholars comprehend current and future research trends and identify research opportunities based on upcoming research waves of newly adapted technologies in smart home health care.

Abstract:
The figure and story of Faustus is part of the European cultural heritage, and as it usually, even inevitably happens with legends, it lives further in the adaptations of later periods and authors . It is mainly linked to Goethe’s name, his figure became well known and immortal in his works. Ever since Goethe, all authors – who respect themselves – in German literature must write a new Faustus, while in other nation’s literatures newer and newer paraphrases were born, which on their turn gave rise to further adaptations, and the scientific, aesthetic etc. literature also has gotten richer. However the canonized, more precisely, classicisized framework of interpretation is not transgressed by any of the newer writers and poets of the past centuries, moreover it is only the form of the legend that is rewritten – naturally with the aim of modernization. All of that as part of the literary heritage. As far as the problem of original sources is concerned: what can be regarded as a source and what is adaptation, which are the works that motivated writers, are just a matter of the preliminary work of the interpretation. On the other hand the problem that within the ancient, mythical tradition there is an original, ancient Faustus legend, does not raise any attention as that is “mere raw material”. The truth is ... that the beginning that has been preliminarily, yet directly definitory for centuries, is that original force that is given in the topic and thus it is difficult to bring it to the surface, preferably independently from the heritage that was built upon it. As far as the time dimension is concerned, we are searching in an undefineable, open past, moreover it is most probable that the legend itself is not entirely original, so to say, but it is the adaptation of a more ancient idea or topic. And by this its symbolism and hidden semantics lose their European characteristics.

Abstract:
Adaptive team coordination is a central topic in the team dynamics literature. Most team adaptation research to date addresses team responses to demands for flexibility triggered by dynamic external forces. Little explicit attention has been paid to demands for stability created by continued pressures on efficiency and control. To capture this dual nature of adaptive coordination, we propose to characterize adaptation triggers in terms of stability and flexibility demands and suggest four modes of adaptive coordination that enable teams to adequately balance these demands. Grounded in team as well as organizational literatures, we explicate the specific patterns of coordination mechanisms comprising each mode of coordination, termed experiential, exploitative, exploratory, and ambidextrous coordination. The new insights offered into team adaptive coordination can spur research that further integrates team and organizational perspectives on adaptation processes.

Abstract:
Cohesion policy accounts for more than one third of the budget of the European Union, but research mostly focuses on economic aspects. In this paper we tackle the discursive dimension of cohesion policy, and in particular, we address the debate on newspapers at national and regional level. As regions can be deemed as the product of struggle over meaning, and as discourses are able to mould and change reality and how we perceive it, we explore the topics used by media when dealing with Cohesion Policy, and in particular we address to what extent national and regional debate differ, also considering regions that differ according to the effectiveness of funds’ management. We performed a topic model on newspapers articles, and we also collected economic data through Eurispes. Our findings point at three processes, which we called leverage, capture, and resistance, which define the local (regional) adaptation of national discourses on cohesion policy. These processes reflect entrenched power relations and depend on the specific context of programming periods, on contingent events, and on structural factors pertaining to regions’ history of economic and social development.

Abstract:
Many Chinese universities engage in transnational higher education by establishing articulation programs with international partners. Although research has broadly investigated transnational higher education topics, few studies have explored Chinese students’ intercultural learning and adjustment experiences in these programs. This qualitative study explored seven Chinese students’ experiences in two China-Australia articulation programs to add insights to this under-researched topic. The findings indicated that research participants’ intercultural learning experiences were far more complex than the theoretical model of “stress-adaptation-development.” The students’ agency, identity, and belonging underwent dynamic changes due to academic inconsistencies and differences, including the use of technology, assessment, and teaching strategies. This study suggests that it is important for educators to consider educational differences in designing and implementing transnational articulation programs.

Abstract:
Climate change is already affecting health in populations around the world, threatening to undermine the past 50 years of global gains in public health. Health is not only affected by climate change via many causal pathways, but also by the emissions that drive climate change and their co-pollutants. Yet there has been relatively limited synthesis of key insights and trends at a global scale across fragmented disciplines. Compounding this, an exponentially increasing literature means that conventional evidence synthesis methods are no longer sufficient or feasible. Here, we outline a protocol using machine learning approaches to systematically synthesize global evidence on the relationship between climate change, climate variability, and weather (CCVW) and human health. We will use supervised machine learning to screen over 300,000 scientific articles, combining terms related to CCVW and human health. Our inclusion criteria comprise articles published between 2013 and 2020 that focus on empirical assessment of: CCVW impacts on human health or health-related outcomes or health systems; relate to the health impacts of mitigation strategies; or focus on adaptation strategies to the health impacts of climate change. We will use supervised machine learning (topic modeling) to categorize included articles as relevant to impacts, mitigation, and/or adaptation, and extract geographical location of studies. Unsupervised machine learning using topic modeling will be used to identify and map key topics in the literature on climate and health, with outputs including evidence heat maps, geographic maps, and narrative synthesis of trends in climate-health publishing. To our knowledge, this will represent the first comprehensive, semi-automated, systematic evidence synthesis of the scientific literature on climate and health.

Abstract:
Purpose This study identified the attitudes and behaviors of college students regarding their advocacy for climate change adaptation and mitigation. Specifically, perceptions of climate change were assessed and advocacy activities were identified for climate change and/or other topics. Design/methodology/approach Using convenience sampling, students (n = 440) from three universities in the Midwest, the USA, completed surveys assessing their level of agreement with activities related to civic engagement, climate change and policy. Semantic differential scales focused on “learning about climate change,” “advocating for climate change mitigation” and “advocating for climate change adaptation.” Three open-ended questions were used to identify student experiences with civic engagement and/or service-learning, as well as topics in which they advocate and how they advocate. Findings Regarding advocacy in general, over 50% of the sample did not advocate for any topic, with 24.5% of students stating they advocated for the environment/climate change. Students who identified as female, democratic and 1st or 2nd year in school were more likely to be engaged with environmental advocacy. Regarding civic engagement, seniors were more actively engaged with their communities and also more likely to vote in local, state and national elections. Research limitations/implications Time of data collection was a potential limitation with schools conducting data collection at different time periods. Students who identified more progressive politically were also more likely to participate in the study. Originality/value While research exists regarding student civic engagement levels, this research project identified ways in which students engaged in advocacy, identifying potential links with civic engagement and enhanced participation in climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies.

Recent literary works aimed at Malaysian adolescent girls have interrogated rape culture more pointedly as a means of addressing gender-based violence through activism and education. In this article, I discuss two short stories, “The Girl on the Mountain” and “Gamble” as retellings of Malaysian legends and feminist responses to the normalization and perpetuation of rape culture in this society. Through the emphasis on female agency, consent, and gender equality, these two stories reflect the subversive power of Malaysian young adult literature in dismantling rape culture, while affirming the significance of the folktale as an empowering tool for community engagement and feminist activism.
