Abstract:
This thesis proposes an analysis of the tough construction in Japanese. It is proposed that there are actually two tough constructions, each derived by a different kind of movement. Three kinds of data which support the claim made here are presented: tough constructions with scrambling, tough constructions with reflexives, and nominals derived from tough constructions. It is argued that non-movement analysis is not appropriate and that both tough constructions are derived by movement. It is shown that tough constructions with a 'tend to' reading can also be accommodated by this analysis. The a

Abstract:
Natural fibre composites (NFCs) possess relatively good specific strength and stiffness properties. However, natural fibres (NFs) often show relatively poor interfacial adhesion with respect to polymeric matrices, may contain relatively high levels of moisture and have variable mechanical properties due to the route by which they have been harvested and manufactured. These aspects may result in inconsistent mechanical properties of such composites, especially evident in a poor interlaminar fracture toughness. Thus, the present work investigates the mode I interlaminar fracture toughness, of NF

Abstract:
In the acquisition of literature, it is traditionally claimed that tough-movement or easy-to-please constructions (hereafter, tough constructions or TCs) are particularly problematic for child speakers of English and are consequently late-acquired. While Carol Chomsky (1969) was the first to advance such a claim, on the basis of her experimental findings, the results of a number of subsequent studies have been taken to provide further support for this contention. Nevertheless, it has yet to be determined precisely why children find these structures so problematic. Cromer (

Abstract:
In this study, we reviewed the literature concerning the problem(s) of evil and found that, while there is a consensus that the logical problem of evil as raised by J. L. Mackie has been successfully addressed by Alvin Plantinga’s “Free Will Defense,” the evidential problem of evil as argued by William Rowe has yet to be resolved. The various solutions suggested by recognized scholars (e.g., John Hick and Richard Swinburne) have not met with broad acceptance. Most of the efforts to resolve the problem have been focused on Rowes’ factual premise (i.e., there are gratuitous evils). This approach
