This paper aims to propose a new guideline for analyzing tourist profiles as found in www.tripadvisor.com. These have been examined from two different aspects so as to gain conclusive results. Tourist data were “crawled” from tripadvisor.com through a specific web crawler. Mining techniques using a combination of visualization, clustering, and association rules were instrumental in discovering the first set of interesting knowledge. This was followed by a qualitative analysis applied through Nvivo software via coding of the tourist's comments in order to define the design of the prospective mo

Studies based on traditional data sources like surveys, for instance, offer poor scalability. The experiments are limited, and the results are restricted to small regions (such as a city or a state). The use of location-based social network (LBSN) data can mitigate the scalability problem by enabling the study of social behavior in large populations. When explored with Data Mining and Machine Learning techniques, LBSN data can be used to provide predictions of relevant cultural and behavioral data from cities or countries around the world. Additionally, the main novelty of this study is the evaluation of the destination’s accessibility concerning people with special needs as a determinant of tourist expenses. Microdata was collected by a survey addressed to tourists (national and international) who visited the city of Porto. Tobit regressions were applied to explain the main tourist

This paper introduces the "Caminhos do Interior", a proposal of web-based solution aimed at promoting regional development through tourism in the lesser-explored areas of Brazil. Drawing from an interdisciplinary and sociotechnical perspective, this project merges concepts of under tourism and city branding to curate and spotlight tourist attractions. Public investment profile for disaster risk reduction: beach erosion and risk mitigation model for Barbados. Inter-American Development Bank, 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.18235/0003912.

Full text
Abstract:
This report presents a probabilistic disaster risk assessment model for Barbados, focusing on beach erosions caused by episodic cyclonic hazard events and chronic effects associated with maritime climate. The probabilistic risk is expressed in terms of direct and indirect economic losses due to expected repair costs and downtimes, and income losses due to declines in tourism visitation and touristic usage in affected beach areas. The Comprehensive Approach for Probabilistic Risk Assessment (CAPRA) was used as a methodological model for conducting this study.
