Abstract:
Analyzing GIS technologies` products for strengthening the tourist attractiveness of the destination and research of possibilities of GIS-technologies at the formation of a tourist product is the purpose of this work. The relevance of this study lies in the need to apply innovative approaches to GIS technologies` usages in the development of national tourism products. The research methodology is based on the application of the statistical method of data processing, the cartographic method of research with the use of GIS, and the method of spatial analysis. General scientific, systematic and informational approaches are also used. The results of the study are an analysis of existing products of GIS technologies and the state of their implementation in tourism, the study of interactive maps and geoportals as tools for the successful solution of problems in the modern tourism sector. It has been found that geoportals significantly help to form a national infrastructure of geospatial data. In the publication I consider two levels of GIS implementation: national and regional. I gave vivid examples of newly created national geoportals and tourist geoportals of the regions of Ukraine, interactive maps of amateur tourists. I considered in more detail the development of GIS technologies` products of such a tourist destination as the Chernihiv region. In particular, as an example, an overview of one of the most functional in Ukraine geoportals - The Geoportal of the urban cadastre of the Chernihiv region is given. A thematic tour of the Chernihiv region was projected with the help of GIS. The scientific novelty of this study is identifying the features of the use of cartographic research methods, especially GIS technologies to study the tourist resources of the territory, the creation of new regional tourism products. I propose to use the method of spatial analysis in the creation of the thematic tour. The practical significance lies in the use of GIS technology products to create cartographic products, such as maps, series of maps, atlases, 3D models, virtual tours. Its help to study in detail the tourist objects of the region contribute to management decisions, and further development and promotion of tourism. The database created during the study can be used to form other types of tourism products. The proposed method of using spatial analysis in the creating of the tour can be useful for expanding the GIS technologies` field of usage.

Abstract:
Abstract. Cartography and maps have historically been valuable tools for tourism and travellers. In the pre-COVID era, tourism had been rapidly growing worldwide. supported by all the newest developments in information and communications technology (ICT). This fact raises concerns about its potential negative impact on tourist destinations. Sustainable management of tourist destinations is thus becoming necessary and stakeholders and individuals are already developing relevant initiatives and actions where cartography and geospatial information could play a special role. The profile of the modern traveller, however, is concurrently also rapidly changing. Modern travellers now have a wealth of internet resources available to them to aid them in selecting a tourist destination and planning a trip. Online maps are an example of such resources and are usually products of the so-called “new cartography”. The aim of this paper is to present the way in which tourist destinations are presented on the web through maps, what kind of geospatial information these maps contain, whether they follow cartographic standards and lastly, whether they provide an integrated presentation of the destination supporting sustainable management and satisfying the demands of the modern traveller.

Abstract:
Purpose. The article discusses the subject of new technologies in tourism, especially the issue of replacing analogue maps with various types of digital ones - webGIS applications, geo-search engines, geoportals, applications containing tourist maps and mobile applications containing interactive maps. The research aimed to find an answer to the question whether we are actually dealing with the dusk of traditional tourism cartography, or if analogue maps are still needed and used. The issue regarding the impact of the geospatial revolution on subsequent stages of activity related to the preparation and completion of a tourist trip/journey was also discussed. Method. A discussion was presented on the role of maps in tourism. The advantages and disadvantages of digital maps, both computer and mobile ones, were evaluated within the context of their use by tourists. Findings. These considerations allowed the conclusion that despite the clear decline in the sales of tourist guides and tourist maps, the widespread availability of various types of computer and mobile applications on the market, it cannot be that we are witnessing the dusk of traditional tourism cartography trying to replace printed materials. Research and conclusions limitations. The theses presented in the article require empirical confirmation on the basis of a larger number of examples. Although the work discusses the advantages and disadvantages of cartographic media within the context of their suitability for tourism, however, conducting research on small trials and the occurrence of very different conditions makes them be contributing in nature. Practical implications. The conclusions from the article form the basis for further research on the use of digital maps and mapping applications in tourism and their usefulness at every stage of a journey. Originality. The originality of the article comes down to two issues. First of all, in the Polish literature on this subject, relatively few authors confront the advantages and disadvantages of analogue maps versus digital ones. Secondly, the texts that have been published on this subject so far draw attention to the above-mentioned problem within the context of the specificity of maps intended for tourists and other maps used by them, only to a negligible extent. Type of work. Review article.

Abstract:

Abstract. Geoheritage is the collective noun for the spectacular phenomena of geological and geomorphological landmarks that have to be preserved but also exploited by tourism in sustainable ways. The demonstration and preservation of these landmarks – the geosites – are often done in a geopark, an open area where they can be visited, and interesting facts can be learned of them through information boards. To provide visitors with an overall information of the geopark we need to create a geotourist map. This genre combines the characteristics of traditional tourist maps and geoscientific maps. Its purpose is to help tourists to navigate on the field and provide them with simplified geological content. Our mapping area is the eastern part of the Bakony–Balaton UNESCO Global Geopark in Hungary. An increasing number of tourist use their electronic devices to navigate on the field. Because of the growing need for smart maps we have decided to create two digital editions of our paper map. An OpenLayers-based version is ideal for planning: webpage visitors can easily find hiking trails and roads to the geosites. We have also decided to create the first geopark-thematized Android app in Hungary. It contains major information about geopark events, concepts of geoheritage, visitable geosites and tour guides. The most important feature is the geotourist map that is similar to the web version. With the help of geotourist maps, we are able to provide relevant geospatial information to hikers and visitors in an aesthetic way. These maps also help to raise awareness among people for geological and geomorphological heritage.

Abstract:
AbstractThis research focuses on the reconstruction of the morphological modifications of the coastal floodplain of Rapallo (Eastern Liguria, NW Italy) due to human intervention since the eighteenth century. By the second half of the nineteenth century Rapallo became a popular tourist destination: as a consequence, the urban development of the floodplain started and became very intense after Second World War, strongly modifying former landforms. The study was carried out using multi-temporal cartographic and photographic comparison, the analysis of geo-thematic cartography and documentation from the Basin Master Plan and the town plan of Rapallo, the interpretation of cores from regional database and field data from direct urban surveys. Man-made landforms were mapped and classified using the new geomorphological legend which is in progress in the framework of the Working Groups on “Cartography” and “Urban Geomorphology” of the Italian Association of Physical Geography and Geomorphology (AIGEO).The main significant morphological changes were stream diversions and channeling, excavations and filling, quarry activities, embankments along the shoreline and overurbanization. Human interventions, in addition to local geomorphological and climate features, increased flood hazard and risk, which historically affected the city of Rapallo.

Abstract:
The purpose of research. The current state of the tourism industry is characterized by growing demand for tourism services by using GIS technologies and increasing attraction for tourism. Specialists in this field are increasingly using geographic information technology to solve various problems of tourism. This article represents studies and possibilities of comprehensive information technology use in the field of tourism, such as, using of the avalanche pass for a tourist attraction. The information obtained from GIS technologies may have been used not only for travel agencies, but also to be useful for forestry workers but also (because it is an avalanche), should be taken by correspondent rescue services in the winter. Therefore, these studies currently remain relevant for scientific and practical issues. The goal of the work. Show how GIS technology performs the functions of spatial analysis and specific user tasks, such as, data processing, mapping, visualization of tourist routes and areas, etc. Thus, the most common usage of geographic information technologies for the formation of databases and filling mapping atributes about the tourist object and infrastructure of the tourist destination. Improving the informativeness is achieved by visualizing the various characteristics of the object, that is showing the avalanche area, avalanche path and power, which led to the destruction of the forest, and futher on. Method. A tourist route passing through the village of Chernyk, Nadvirna district, Ivano-Frankivsk region, north of Mount Polensky (Polenskaya) was used for this study. The research in this article is based on the use of the extremely destructive snow avalanche that came down from Polensky Mountain in the Ukrainian Carpathians on March 24, 2006 and led to destruction in a large part of the forest in the Gorgany Nature Reserve. Geoinformation modeling methods were used on the territory of the avalanche slope from Polensky Mountain. Results. A digital terrain model of the study area was created. Geotourism route was developed within Gorgan, also some additional studies were performed related to detailed mapping and surface modeling in terms of route safety. Experimental studies were performed based on materials (DEM) provided by the Research Institute, Geodesy and Cartography , also the SURFAR software package was used. On its way, the avalanche destroys not only a large amount of forest (lumber), but also young trees. By cutting and capturing the soil and forest, the avalanche carries all this material (vegetation, top soil, rocks, debris)to the foot of the mountain and changing the terrain as well. According to our estimates, the forest losses caused by this avalanche were as follows: about 2,500 trees were destroyed, or 1,575 cubic meters of lamber. Different models were created for Mount Polenska, which are shown in the relevant figures. The obtained visual images that will be interesting for tourists and enhance the attractiveness of the object. Scientific novelty and practical value. The performed researches doesn’t have only descriptive nature, but also can be applied for the rescue service to protect of tourists on the route. The development of modern transport information systems and the creation of tourist maps and guides are another goals of this research. The creation and accurate mapping of tourist routes with the use of digital electronic maps is especially important, as the existing cartographic material is very inaccurate and the information is outdated. The use of geographic information technologies in tourism will also expand to solve specific engineering problems related to tourism. In addition, the images shown can serve as a warning of possible dangers. Conclusions. Thus, the use of geological objects in the tourism industry is promising, specially for mountainous and upland areas, which are very attractive for tourism. Because the formation of geotourism routes on the basis of correspondent and trusted geological data, and also involves a detailed study of geolocations, the route of the group, taking into account the safety aspects of travel. These tasks are efficiently implemented with the help of geographic information systems and technologies.

Abstract:
Several everyday cartography applications do not require sharply precise base maps, and in fact benefit from their generalization or deliberate obscuration, such as tourist or transit maps. Additionally, raster data fine enough for a given map scale are not always available. We present a method of creating an impressionistic land cover base map for topographic mapping in which the above two conditions are true, using the National Land Cover Database (NLCD) of the US Geological Survey (USGS). The method is based on reclassification, upsampling, constrained randomization at class boundary edges, and deliberate use of colors with very similar lightness values. The method spans both scientific geospatial data treatment and artistic cartographic design, and both generalizes and enhances the data. The processing, automated in ArcGIS™, is detailed, and examples of the product are provided.

Abstract:
A universal author's methodology for mapping the confessional space of the territory with the use of special methods and means is proposed. In the process of scientific research, the following tasks are accomplished: 1) an analysis of existing cartographic materials is carried out, where the confessional structure and other scientific sources are displayed; 2) the main advantages and disadvantages of using certain methods, means, techniques and symbols are highlighted; 3) its own methodology for mapping the confessional space of individual territories is developed (on the example of the territory of Ukraine and its individual regions). The offered results of scientific researches are approved at scientific conferences and congresses and have received positive responses of leading scientists of Ukraine in the field of cartography. As a result of such studies and practical application of the mapping methodology, we created a series of maps (more than 120) reflecting the confessional space of Ukraine at the level of administrative and territorial regions and cities of regional importance. We also built a map for Volyn, Rivne, Lviv, Ternopil, Khmelnytsky, Chernivtsi, Ivano-Frankivsk and Zakarpattia regions at the settlement level. This allows to identify the various areas of possible interconfessional confrontations, as well as promising destinations for the development of religious tourism. The main scientific result of the scientific research is the proposed methodology for mapping the confessional space, as well as creating tourist maps for the development of religious tourism. These results create the foundation for further scientific reflection on the process of mapping and cartographic monitoring of confessional space. They can serve as basic information for regulating interfaith relations at various levels, which is relevant for Ukraine today.

The OpenStreetMap (OSM) database includes original items very useful for geographical analysis and for creating thematic maps. Contributors record in the open database various themes regarding amenities, leisure, transports, buildings and boundaries. The Michelin mapping department develops map prototypes to test the feasibility of mapping based on OSM. To translate the OSM database structure into a database structure fitted with Michelin graphic guidelines a research project is in development. It aims at defining the right structure for the Michelin uses. The research project relies on the analysis of semantic and geometric heterogeneities in OSM data. In that order, Michelin implements methods to transform the input geographical database into a cartographic image dedicated for specific uses (routing and tourist maps). The paper focuses on the mapping tools available to produce a personalised spatial database. Based on processed data, paper and Web maps can be displayed. Two prototypes are described in this article: a vector tile web map and a mapping method to produce paper maps on a regional scale. The vector tile mapping method offers an easy navigation within the map and within graphic and thematic guide- lines. Paper maps can be partly automatically drawn. The drawing automation and data management are part of the mapping creation as well as the final hand-drawing phase. Both prototypes have been set up using the OSM technical ecosystem.

Abstract:
This article attempts to reconstruct a mental cartography of early modern London, the ensemble of material, social, and symbolic codes that made up the social architecture of the city. The article extends Steven Mullaney's work by giving scholars a more accurate understanding of the geography of London and its liberties, especially those that housed private theaters, such as Shakespeare's Blackfriars. I look in particular at the liberty of the Whitefriars, arguing that between 1600 and 1615, two theaters used the liberty's reputation to draw visitors to both the theater and the neighborhood in an early modern version of cultural tourism. The theater thrived on a symbolic economy, a commodification of local color that drew people to the district, from in and outside London. I bring theories of space and tourism into play when considering the complexities of how a theater commodifies its neighborhood in this manner.

Abstract. Marathon running has become an obsession in China, with 22 marathon races in 2011 increasing to 400 in 2017. Based on the Marathon annual report in 2017, marathon races will increase to above 1900 in 2020. More and more Chinese are traveling around the country to participate marathon races, which brings tremendous opportunities for the host cities, specifically for city tourism. A well-designed marathon map can not only help runners to learn detailed information for the races, but also help the tourists to learn natural and historical spots in the city. However, marathon maps and their designs are not examined in respect to cartography.

This study focused on full marathon race maps, collected 200 maps officially published by marathon organizers, inventoried the race information included in the maps, explored how many of these maps showing natural and historical scenic spots along the race, and analyzed common design elements of the maps using Quantitative Content Analysis (QCA), see table1. The goal of this study was to determine if the maps featured only the races or if they provided additional information to encourage tourist activities. A well designed marathon map can help both to the implementation of a race and to the creation of a sense of city.

Abstract:
Sweden’s tourism industry stands out for its large contribution to the development of the national economy. The vast size of the country makes it possible to trace differences in incoming tourist flows from neighbouring countries. This circumstance accounts for the novelty of this study, which lies in viewing national tourism geography from the perspective of the theory of transboundary tourism-and-recreation region building. Interregional differences in the structure of incoming tourist flows help identify the country’s cross-border tourism-and-recreation regions and delineate their borders. This research employs statistical and cartographic methods. The incoming tourist flow to Sweden grew steadily until 2020. However, the Covid-19 crisis has led to a drastic reduction in the number of incoming tourists. Based on the 2019 statistics, the findings confirm the existence of a developed transboundary tourism-and-recreation mesoregion that brings together Germany, Denmark, and Sweden. The formation boasts strong tourist links. There are another five cross-border tourism-and-recreation mesoregions: Sweden-Norway-Denmark, Middle Sweden-Norway, Sweden-Norway-Finland, Middle Sweden-Finland, and South Sweden-Finland. The number of tourists visiting cross-border mesoregions indicates the degree of development of the latter.

Abstract:
As proposed by Michael Godet, an Structural Analysis exercise applied to achieve a representation of the system as close to reality as possible, and reducing its complexity to its essential macrovariables in the research on sustainable tourist called "Ruta del Oro" in Nariño Colombia, which seeks to conjugate the geologic mining patrimony with other resources existing in the field. It was discovered that the macrovariables that determine the system are the geology, the geomorphology and the climate; those on which it is possible to intervene to equilibrate it are, the water, the territorial structure, the vegetation and to a lesser extent, the soil. The dependent macrovariables are the landscape, the cultural resources and the fauna. These results were contrasted with the correspondent cartography, secondary information and fieldwork. It is concluded that the macrovariables of the investigation and the role identified each one are the adequate.

Abstract. This paper, submitted for the Workshop/Theme session on Virtual & Augmented Reality: Technology, Design & Human Factors, organized by ISPRS Working Group IV/9, explores the research field opened by experiments in virtual environments from multidisciplinary approach. At the recently established Cognitive Cartography Lab, Eötvös University, Budapest we designed an experiment to study and better understand the role of visuospatial displays in spatial cognition, in particular the cognitive conditions of navigation in an imaginary city with a map. Below we present some preliminary results based on our experiments recording the spatial behaviour of 62 subjects, including their verbal reactions and eye tracking data collected during the sessions. We measured the wayfinding behaviour of participants after an active or passive learning phase. The analysis of the accumulated data suggested no significant differences in the efficiency of spatial problem solving between the groups of subjects. For further investigation we found that – although salient visual cues grasped the attention of the participants – they could not benefit from this knowledge of landmarks in the actual navigational tasks. Despite the lack of group differences, the low number of getting lost in such complex, large-scale virtual environment suggests that participants could solve the navigational tasks rather efficiently, most probably due to using different cognitive strategies. The project was part of an educational development plan and was supported by the Student Talent Grant of Eötvös University. It was designed by a multidisciplinary research group including university students and offered them the opportunity to collaborate, cross disciplinary borders and develop their profile when contributing to front-line scientific research.

Abstract:
Data on tourism represent a basic indicator of the tourist market situation. The very course of the development of a tourist destination, the distribution of tourist resources, as well as the possibility of implementing changes in the tourist offer, all depend upon this data. Strong competition and the increasingly demanding visitors cause the responsible authorities to conduct constant planning and coordination. The term "tourist planning" implies an integral and strategic planning which includes: destination analysis, defining goals, adoption of strategies and programs, planning of land usage, organization of market, defining the desirable economic effect of tourism, and the cooperation of all subjects in the tourist offer. The efficacy of such planning reflects in the tourism indicators which serve as a framework for the assessment of an existing situation and the forming of management guidelines. One of the most relevant indicators of conditions is the opinion of tourists who rate the advantages and the shortcomings of tourist offer in the area which they visit, as well as the opinion of the indigenous population which participates in the creation of the tourist offer. The results of this paper are based upon the conducted survey among the visitors of sport-recreational centres Čajuša and Stožer, and the indigenous population of Kupres municipality. The structural characteristics of the examinees and the values of the actual opinions on the tourist offer have been determined. The perceived discrepancies in the answers from Croatian and domestic visitors indicate a tradition of visiting similar European destinations. The increase in number of tourists by 50% has been achieved in the last several years, primarily thanks to the snowmaking on the ski slopes, but also due to an improved tourist offer (ski courses, ski-lifts, ski kindergarten, snowboard slopes, traditional food, etc.). Although the pre-war tourist capacities still wait for a renewal, the foreign investments rapidly restructure the tourist offer and have a positive impact on the economy. The use of GIS technology has allowed a simple analysis and data storage, making it possible to create a cartographic visualization. Thus, an accuracy in data presentation has been ensured, and each of the attractive factors in tourism has been associated with attribute data in the database. This type of planning guarantees a more responsible and efficient management of resources of a tourist destination and is crucial for the overall economic development of an area

Abstract:
Background: The Belarusian-Polish borderland has great tourism potential but in the same time suffers from many restrictions, especially geopolitical ones. An overall facilitation of foreigners’ trips into Belarus has facilitated the development of cross-border tourism and local resources could be used by tourists. One of the most important tourist attractions is the Augustów Canal. This article seeks to discuss changes made to one border crossing between Poland and Belarus whose location may be considered exceptional, given that it is on the Augustów Canal. Material and methods: Analysis of historical, legal and statistical materials; cartographic analysis and fieldwork. Results: Eased restrictions on crossing the border (i.e. 5 years of gradual, stepwise introduction of visafree regimes and zones by the Belarusian authorities) have combined with the emergence of new possibilities to travel along the Canal by bicycle or on foot to increase numbers of foreign tourists (including Poles) who take advantage of the visa-free opportunities. Conclusions: Opportunities for the development of tourism (especially of a transboundary nature) are influenced by the simultaneous “internationalisation” and “touristification” of border crossings in Belarus’s western borderland area, which serve as a tourist destination of global significance (the Augustów Canal) and/or traffic at the individual-visitor level. The factor of overriding importance encouraging steady enlargement of tourist space and its utilisation either side of the border is the so-called “Brześć-Grodno Space”, as a visa-free continuous corridor for tourism established in the period since November 2019. This allows for visits into western Belarus, in particular in a south-north direction. The Augustów (Augustovsky) Canal and its Rudawka-Lesnaya border crossing are expected to play a particular part in this process.

At the first stage of the study the territories that can be attributed to the Russian Arctic have been identified. Further, the technique, allowed the authors to identify the basic properties of the tourist routes and programs by means of scale to measure each of which, has been established. The obtained materials became the basis for the development of form of tourism route passports, according to which collecting of relevant information through open sources was conducted. The information collected on 343 objects was put in a unified database. The research results show that the majority of the properties of tourist routes and programs are very different from the typical situation in the country, identified in previous studies. The most developed route network is represented in Murmansk and Arkhangelsk regions. In other regions the tourism development has a local character, and the state of the route network and implemented programs is specific and variably. The following research methods and approaches have been used: situational and systemic approaches, methods of mathematics and statistics, comparative method, analysis and synthesis, abstraction, induction and deduction, geoinformation and cartographic methods. The study results reflect the current state of the tourism route network in the Russian Arctic. It is a factual basis for state policy in Arctic tourism, as well as developing new products for the tourist business. The generated database of tourist routes and programs will allow to improve the information support of subjects of tourism sector (including directly tourists) both in Russia and abroad.

Abstract:
A well-designed map can influence tourists’ activities, yet tourist maps and their designs remain under-examined in the cartographic literature. Today, many Americans are traveling to indulge in new food and drink experiences, which can potentially increase revenues in other related tourist amenities. Specifically, travel to craft breweries is increasing, and tourism agencies throughout North America promote beer trails. This study identified 100 beer trails promoted by official tourism agencies, inventoried how many of those trails’ marketing materials included a map, and evaluated those maps using Quantitative Content Analysis (QCA) for common design elements. The overall goal of the project was to determine if the maps featured only the breweries or if they promoted visiting additional experiential activities that contributed to the creation of a sense of place, and that in turn, may provide potential benefits to the travel destination. The results found that tourism agencies aggressively advertise local breweries, but the maps developed for beer trails significantly underutilize effective cartographic principles and do not promote other regional activities. Most trail maps were made with Google Maps, an effective tool for navigation, but one that often produced unbalanced layouts and did not use symbology to effectively emphasize tourist activities. Additionally, Google Maps tends to suggest travel on main roads or highways rather than smaller back roads that are more likely to host additional local activities. A limited number of maps were artistically designed to focus the viewer’s attention on the regional landscape and other available activities, but were designed in a highly generalized, cartoon-like style. Only two agencies mapped breweries along with suggested routes and additional activities using symbols, colors, fonts, and pictures appropriate for the age demographic of their market audience.

Abstract:
Abstract Tourist maps are one of the most common groups of cartographic documents. Their variety in terms of content, subject matter and publication titles is a result of growing popularity of diverse forms of tourism activity. The aim of the authors of this article is to demonstrate issues related to tourist maps, including their variety in relation to contemporary forms of tourism. As tourist maps are constantly developing, the authors decided to propose a classification of tourist maps which is adequate from the point of view of the types of maps we currently distinguish. Taking into consideration the aim and type of tourism, the maps were divided into the following sub-groups: maps for sightseeing tourism, qualified tourism, and other tourism, as well as tourist city maps, and maps prepared for promotion and advertising of tourism. The first there categories were further divided into more detailed sub-categories and each of them was described briefly in terms of its content. The classification of maps based on their scales and form of content presentation was also included. The authors attempted also to define the concept of “tourist map” itself. The authors defined it as a geographic representation of an area presented on a plane, in accordance with specific mathematical rules, which should include topographic contents, information about tourist attractions of a given area, its tourist and complementary infrastructure, presented with the help of conventional signs, in a matter appropriate for the scale of the map and its intended use. Contributing to the discussion on the place of tourist map in the general classification of maps, the article distinguishes not only general-geographic maps and thematic maps, but also orientation and navigation maps. This terms covered tourist maps, road maps, and navigation maps: sailing, sea, aerial and city maps. They consist a group of maps in which the functions they play determine their informational content and their form of cartographic presentation. However, unlike on thematic maps, where the general geographic content is merely a background for presentation of the theme-related phenomena, the geographic content is essential in case of tourist maps. It is precisely the general geographic content which is primarily responsible for communicating information which is meant to be used for orientation and navigation purposes.

Abstract:
Abstract Nigeria has a vast array of both natural and cultural tourist attractions. The country’s tourism industry, however, remains grossly underdeveloped, and the tourism resources are largely untapped. Hence, the tourism sector of the economy is yet to contribute significantly to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP). One major factor that is responsible for the nation’s current lacklustre performance of the tourism sector is the poor state of tourism packaging and promotion, which, amongst other things is caused by the lack of appropriate tourist maps. Tourism mapping is a key component of tourism planning, development, promotion and management. For Nigeria to drastically and significantly improve the fortunes of her tourism sector, the production, circulation and use of accurate, current and comprehensive tourist maps and atlases must be vigorously pursued. To ensure sustainable tourism mapping and in line with global best practices, the country needs to adopt a Geoinformation technology-based, Internet-compatible multimedia cartographic approach. The author of this paper, therefore, examines the current state of tourism industry and tourism mapping in Nigeria. Some of the hiccups to tourism mapping in the country are identified. The implications of the present poor state of tourism mapping on tourism planning, development, promotion and management in the country are briefly considered. The author makes a strong case for the adoption of a multimedia cartographic approach to tourism mapping in Nigeria. A case of mapping wildlife parks in Nigeria is presented to demonstrate the prospects of effective multimedia tourism mapping of the country. Furthermore, the author identifies and discusses various existing resources in the country that could be harnessed for efficient and sustainable production, distribution and use of multimedia tourist maps/atlases, using Geographical Information Technologies (GIT). Some potential challenges to effective GIT-based tourism mapping in the country as well as how such challenges could be overcome, are equally discussed. Similarly, a model for Web-based, multimedia tourism mapping using GIT is presented. With clear vision, the right policy instrument, mandate, legislation, funding and coordination in place, the current challenges to effective and sustainable tourism mapping in Nigeria can easily be surmounted.

Early in 2013 as many as 5 wind farms were in operation in Kretinga region and the sixth was under construction. The wind farms are concentrated within two territories, i.e. in the south-west part of the region (between Kretinga and Palanga towns) and in the north-west (between Darbėnai and the Senoji Įpiltis villages). The region also houses seven individual wind turbines, the total number being 58 units. In seeking to assess the impact of wind turbines based in Kretinga region on the landscape and the villages, the analysis of cartography material was carried out and the inventory of all wind turbines was made (GIS data base). On assessing the importance of the roads with regard to the intensity of traffic and tourist flows, the observation places were established and photo fixation was performed. The impact was assessed from eleven observation places (all the places were close to the roads). During the study, the nature, importance and degree of contrast of the visual impact of wind turbines were assessed. In assessing the visual impact of wind turbines on the landscape, it was found that woodlands and villages make a significant impact on the visibility of turbines. The wind turbines seen on the axis of the road perspective are not only observed for some length of time, but often serve as a landmark. The investigation results were compared with the situation in western Latvia region (Grobina case).

The aim of the research is to identify both geographic peculiarities, as well as specific features of the distribution of tourist flow from Russia to the territory of Finland and Estonia. A cartographic analysis allowed to define the connection of the value of the Russian tourist flow at the territory of these countries with: 1) remoteness of the region from the border with Russia, as well as from St. Petersburg, which is the main supplier of Russian tourists to those countries; 2) the density of population in border zones, especially from the Russian side: 3) location and volume of annual traffic of multi-sided vehicle checkpoints at the border. Besides, an active transboundary tourist exchange at the part of Russian-Estonian border in Ivangorod (Kingisepp area of Leningrad region) and Narva (Ida-Virumaa county) is supported by ethnic population relationship on both sides of the border and the possibility to cross the border on foot along the bridge across the River Narva.

The aim of this paper is to show the advantages and disadvantages of the Serbian Danube Region as a tourist destination. Tasks to be completed in order to achieve the set aim include: determining the position of the Serbian Danube Region from the perspective of transportation geography, identifying its natural and anthropogenic tourism assets, its tourism infrastructure, as well as the types of tourism that can develop there based on the above. The methods used in this paper comprise: the cartographic method; a statistical method used for determining monthly and annual mean values of the Danube water level, water temperature and climatic elements for the period 1991-2010, the number of tourists and overnights in the Danube Region in 2012, as well as the number of accommodation facilities and their comparison for the years 2010 and 2012; the analytic and synthetic method; the fieldwork method combined with the photographic method, etc. The only conclusion that can be drawn is that the potentials of the Serbian Danube Region for tourism development have not been sufficiently valorised or realised except in Belgrade and Novi Sad. Therefore, taking action and measures in connection with sustainable development of tourism would favour economic development outside major cities, advance the spatial distribution of population and improve the overall social situation.

Abstract:
The purpose of the study is the analysis of the peculiarities of the organization of budget-limited combined tourist trips through the European countries by private transport as a kind of backpacking. Methods. The paper uses comparison, analysis, synthesis and generalization. The development of tourist routes heavily involved cartographic methods as well as expert assessment of those who took group tours. Results. The study analyses theoretical approaches to the concept of backpacking and its varieties and defines what kind of trips by private transport can be classified as backpacking. Based on the personal experience, we demonstrated organizational, economic and geographic aspects of such trips among domestic tourists as well as directions of further development. We presented examples of organization of two combined trips of tourist groups that involved different kinds of touristic and recreational activities: city excursions, mountaineering, recreation at the sea and lakes. Despite the variety of considered trips, their main purpose was the organization of mountain trekking and climbing peaks. One of the trip's primary destination was the highest peak of Austria, Mount Großglockner and the eponymous high-mountain motorway in the Hohe Tauern National Park. The backpacking trip that took place in July 2019 included trekking through the territory of the Triglav National Park and climbing the highest peak of Slovenia. The main criteria that classify this trip as backpacking are the following: low budget thanks to living in tents and preparing own food; the organization of the trip as a whole as well as trekking routes by the participants themselves without involvement of professional guides. Scientific novelty. The paper studies tours through Europe by private transport as a kind of backpacking tours and the peculiarities of their organization. Practical significance. The suggested variants of tourist trips can be used by self-organized groups as well as professional guides. Another part of European experience that could be useful for Ukraine is the organization of accommodation in the mountains and camping places as well as the system of registration and tourist fees that exist in European countries. The introduction of this practice in Ukraine would encourage better organization of self-organized tourism in the country and filling local budgets and would allow for improvements to the ecological situation in certain popular recreational regions.

Abstract:
Goal. To reveal peculiarities of formation of ecological prospects of tourism development within Drohobych urban system. Method. The study used analytical, comparative-geographical, cartographic and synthetic methods. Results. The prospect of this territory for ecological tourism in urban systems is shown - since it is characterized by the location within the satisfactory ecological state of forest landscapes, accessibility for all types of tourist groups, developed infrastructure and the presence of environmental problems, which often need immediate solution. Thus, territories such as the Drohobych Urbosystem create the prerequisites for obtaining aesthetic preferences, cognitive bases, as well as environmentally oriented knowledge in the implementation of tourist routes. In general, “branding” of cities in the development of the tourism industry is a multifactorial phenomenon, which depends on its natural, historical and architectural attractiveness as well as on its ecological status, which acts as an ecological basis and general ecological background. (a necessary background that creates a natural environment beyond which it is impossible to consider the ecological effect of anthropogenic impact aimed at providing comfortable environmental conditions (natural conditions that affect life, health, production and non-productive activities of people) for tourists. That is, the environmental safety of an urban environment is a condition of a certain section of a city that eliminates harmful effects or its threat, its inhabitants and visitors, created by anthropogenic or natural influences, correspond to the formation of a natural and cultural environment that is consistent with sanitary, aesthetic and material needs. [7] Scientific novelty is the development of theoretical, methodological and medical principles for the identification of tourist regions as an object of study, the identification of their specific features and patterns of functioning. Assessment of the environmental safety of the environment of tourist attractive urban areas should be a mandatory component of the city's brand, which is developed with the aim of obtaining the following results: improving the socio-economic and cultural development of the city; development of all forms of business in the city; tourism development; promotion of investment activity; participation in national and regional development programs; participation in international cooperation programs. The practical importance lies in substantiation of the mechanisms of formation and implementation of the strategy of development

Abstract:
The article illustrates the interest in transhumance routes, the ancient paths connecting high and lowland pastures in Southern Italy and other Mediterranean regions, as elements of particular importance for sustainable geotourism management. As a contribution to the needs of requalification of the drove roads, we propose a method of analysis for their preservation and their reuse for geotourism purposes, showing the steps and instruments necessary to organize, enhance and communicate transhumance routes as integrated cultural landscapes. Results are presented as applied to a specific case study (Molise, IT) of a geoconservation management proposal for the assessment of the state of conservation of the drove roads, of their cultural heritage and of their potential reuse for geotourism. This methodological proposal uses geographical information systems, historical sources, cartography and remote sensing techniques and includes 3D virtual reconstructions of the transhumance landscape. The article is meant to contribute to a non-stereotyped image of transhumance geoheritage, reflecting on communication and learning strategies supported by geo-historical analyses, in order to promote a greater awareness of landscapes genesis and evolution for visitors and local communities. It is argued that future challenges of geotourism relate to the ability to recompose nature and culture to an interpretive unity, both from a theoretical and operative point of view, and that the goal is to reach an integrated tourist offer focused on the relationship between man and environment with the signs of territorialisation processes expressed through economic vocations, traditional production chains, cultural values and territorial identity. To this purpose, the valorisation of the transhumance routes—for their historical-economic, ecological, landscape, patrimonial and identity meanings—seems to respond perfectly.

Abstract:
Problems of efficiency of tourism development for the urban economy should be considered on the basis of a systematic approach, which involves the establishment of different criteria and indicators for different levels of government, as well as a hierarchy of goals and corresponding efficiency criteria. Based on the analysis, the article summarizes the concept of "tourist potential of the city". It is determined that the main components of tourist potential are resource, economic and social potential. The main methods of determining the tourist potential are identified, including expert, comparative, cartographic, technological, aesthetic methods of analysis. The directions of tourism impact on the economy of the territory are considered. Direct and indirect effects, as well as induced effects of tourism development are considered separately. The interrelation and interaction of different spheres of the city economy and tourism are shown. In the analysis it is necessary to consider significant sectors of the urban economy: hotel, construction, catering, retail, tour operators, industry, wholesale, housing and communal services, communications, transport, insurance and banking, medicine, education and others. To calculate the gross tourist product, calculate the sum of all costs incurred for the production of tourist goods and services for a certain period. These are the costs of tourist consumption, private and public tourism investments. In addition, calculate the amount of all income from the sale of tourist goods and services for a certain period. This income from the sale of tourist goods and services, income from renting rooms, apartments, etc. The use of a multiplier to determine the impact of tourism development on the city economy is proposed. The calculation of tourism multipliers involves determining the total income from the tourism industry and related infrastructure. Comprehensive assessment allows to identify the economic level of tourism development in the territory, the effect, and is also the basis for justification and management decisions. The study showed that in the modern scientific literature there are several types of multipliers. These are multipliers of income, employment, investment, commercial operations, production and sales. The foreign experience of assessment of social and economic effects from the development of the tourist sphere is analyzed and the possibility of its use in the conditions of Ukraine is substantiated. Keywords: tourist potential of the city, direct and indirect effects, multiplier.

Abstract:
The article theoretically and practically substantiates the necessity of teaching Mapping for Bachelors of Tourism. The cartographic competence of future professionals is closely connected with their professional skills. The specific feature of the cartographic method is that it allows one to visualize the geographic space or any simulated space for studying. Consequently it develops the student’s spatial thinking, and makes both cerebral hemispheres be active. It is known that the right cerebral hemisphere is responsible for the creative feature of the human nature, and the left cerebral hemisphere is responsible for the logic. The essence of the cartographic method is that in the process of researching the reality an intermediate element appears. And the intermediate element is a map the role of which is of two kinds: it is a research tool and the subject of research presented as a model, a prototype of the reality at the same time. The symbolic figurative language of a map develops the abstract thinking about the real prototype. It should be emphasized that maps help specialists to establish new patterns in location and interconnection of phenomena. Understanding of the graphic image of the structure of the geographical space, highlighting the peculiarities of the tourist and recreational component, administrating the tourist and recreational space, designing a regional project for the development of tourism, creating package tours – all these professional skills are immediately related to students’ intellectual-graphic activities, to their abilities to visualize the geospace, to be good at Mapping. In the final part of the article the cartographic competence is defined as an element of the culture of a competent specialist in tourism’s personality.

Abstract:
The purpose of the study is to determine the prerequisites for the formation of agritourism in the Zaporozhye region, to identify the features of territorial organization and understanding of its regional uniqueness. Research methods and techniques. The study of the territorial organization of agritourism at the regional level is based on two methodological approaches: dialectical and territorial. At the analytical and synthetic stages, the methods of correlation analysis and cartographic modeling, the comparative-geographical method and the method of computer technologies were used. Results. The region has a strong tourist and resource potential for the development of agritourism - in fact, in every district of the region there are rural green estates and tourist attractions. It is proved that the maximum effect of sustainable development can be achieved only if agritourism develops not spontaneously, but within the framework of relevant programs of state, interregional and regional significance. Otherwise, local projects in the field of agritourism in the current conditions of lack of financial resources will be slowed down by uncontrolled development. The idea of the role of rural (green) tourism in the conditions of reset of national and regional recreation caused by the planetary pandemic is deepened and the laconic map of the spatial organization of rural (green) tourism of the region is offered. The practical significance of the study lies in the implementation of its results in the educational process (in teaching courses "tourism organization", "excursion activities", "rural green tourism organization") at geographical, historical faculties of higher education institutions of Ukraine) and the use of article materials in travel companies , excursion establishments and public associations of Ukraine, in strengthening public attention to modern types of recreation and features of their organization. Scientific novelty. The main trends and features of territorial location of agro-villages in accordance with the tourist and recreational potential of Zaporizhia region are highlighted, a cartographic model of spatial organization of rural (green) tourism in the region is introduced.
