Esta pesquisa pretende investigar, sob a perspectiva da Estratégia Empresarial, a lógica de negócios utilizada pela Montadora Toyota na constituição do Banco Toyota como agente de financiamento disponível à sua base de clientes. Em geral, há estudos e publicações sobre bancos de montadora e e, é claro, sobre as próprias montadoras, porém ambos são tratados e analisados de forma individual. Há poucos estudos e publicações abordando o assunto de forma conjunta, principalmente no campo da Estratégia Empresarial, área temática à qual esta dissertação se subordina. Trata-se portanto, de uma contribuição relevante para campo de pesquisa de Estratégia Empresarial, para as discussões que se proponham a relacionar, em termos estratégicos, as montadoras e seus correspondentes bancos. O estudo tem relevância para a economia brasileira, já que isoladamente a indústria automobilistica representa mais 18% do PIB industrial brasileiro, segundo dados da Anfavea. A pesquisa terá como ponto de partida a análise da relação entre a Montadora Toyota e o Banco Toyota, tendo como foco a análise de ações efetivas que contribuem para o aumento das vendas da Montadora. Pretende-se aqui também, contextualizar essa relação em termos da competição das montadoras entre si e dos bancos de montadora em relação aos bancos comerciais. A pesquisa será feita através da metodologia do estudo de caso, através da análise do Banco Toyota e da Montadora Toyota, por meio de entrevistas com profissionais da Associação Nacional das Empresas Financeiras das Montadoras (ANEF), bem como executivos do Banco Toyota e da Montadora Toyota e também por meio de análise de documentos (relatórios internos e externos).

Abstract:
I en tid med ökande användning av allt dyrare fossila bränslen blir låg användning av dessa ett allt viktigare konkurrensmedel för biltillverkare. Toyota har länge legat i ledningen för forskning kring och produktion av hybridbilar. År 1997 lanserades för första gången deras hybridmodell Prius som sedan dess har uppgraderats vid två tillfällen, dels genom att komponenterna i hybridsystemet förbättrats, dels genom att bilen fått en sportigare design för att locka ett bredare spektrum av köpare. Hybridsystemet består av en förbränningsmotor och två elmotorer som genom en planetväxel samverkar för att ge bra prestanda med låg bränsleförbrukning. I rapporten har planetväxeln analyserats med avseende på funktion, ingående delar samt dess roll i systemet. Avslutningsvis har även en övergripande jämförelse av ekonomin relativt en prestandamässigt likartad standardbil gjorts. Genom att modellera planetväxeln i CAD har dess funktion enklare kunnat analyseras och visas i bilder och animationer för att förklara dess funktion enkelt även för den som inte har en teknisk bakgrund. I den ekonomiska jämförelsen har Toyota Prius jämförts med Ford Focus 1.6 som har en 109 hästkrafters förbränningsmotor, vilket ungefärligen motsvarar den prestanda som hybridsystemet levererar. Genom att använda sig av elmotorer som har starkt moment vid lägre varvtal, i kombination med en förbränningsmotor som har bra moment först vid högre varvtal, kombineras det bästa från båda motorerna och ger låg bränsleförbrukning med en prestanda motsvarande en 110 hästkrafters förbränningsmotor från den endast 76 hästkrafter starka förbränningsmotorn. Trots den avancerade funktionen är planetväxeln och övriga delar av växellådan relativt mekaniskt okomplicerade. Komplexiteten ligger istället i det elektroniska systemet som för varje liten ändring av driftförutsättningarna beräknar den optimala kombinationen av drivningen och styr motorerna därefter. Den ekonomiska jämförelsen visar att konsumenten måste använda Toyota Prius i en region med subventioner för miljöbilar då inköpspriset annars gör att totalkostnaden över de första tio åren blir högre trots den lägre förbrukningen. Utvecklingen på hybridmarknaden går starkt framåt och flera tillverkare lanserar nya hybridmodeller sedan Toyota visat att det finns en marknad för denna typ av bilar.
As the world’s usage of fossil fuels are increasing, generating a rapidly increasing oil price, lowering the fuel economy of standard vehicles have become a key issue in the competition for the customers. Toyota has for a long time been in the lead concerning research and development of hybrid vehicles. In 1997 Toyota for the first time launched the until now best selling hybrid vehicle Prius, which has since then been upgraded two times with better engines, motors and batteries, but also with a more sporty look to attract a wider spectra of customers. The hybrid system consists of an internal combustion engine combined with two electric motors that cooperate through a planetary gear to optimize the performance with a lowered usage of fuel. In the following report the planetary gear’s function, parts and behavior with the hybrid system have been analyzed. Finally an economical comparison between the Prius and a standard vehicle with equal performance has been done. By modulating the planetary gear using CAD its function has been easier to analyze and also, due to the possibility to create explaining pictures and animations, making it easier to visualize. Furthermore have the use of a 3D model simplified the analysis of the planetary gear’s different operations and the understanding for each part’s purpose in the system. For the economical comparison the Ford Focus 1.6 with its 109 hp have been chosen as an, to the Prius, equal standard car to compare with. By using electric motors that have good torque at low revolution speed combined with a combustion engine with the best torque at higher revolution speed the best characteristics of the two types are combined giving the Prius containing a combustion engine with 76 hp the performance as if it had an engine with 110 hp. Although the function of the planetary gear is complicated the mechanical construction of the planetary gear and the rest of the gearbox are relatively simple. The complexity of the system lies instead in the electronic control system that continuously calculates the optimal way to combine the motors and the engine and directs them thereafter. The economical comparison shows that the consumer must use the Toyota Prius in an area with subsidies for environmentally friendly cars as the much higher purchase cost otherwise makes the total cost over time during the first ten years higher for the Prius despite the lower fuel usage. The development in the hybrid car area is on a strong march forward. Since Toyota with its Prius model has shown that such a market exists, several other car producers have followed.

Abstract:
Para formular el plan estratégico se realizó un análisis externo del entorno en Estados Unidos que afecta a Toyota USA. Se concluyó que ofrece oportunidades para la inversión y la participación de las grandes empresas del sector automotriz. Esta conclusión se evidencia mediante la matriz EFE, cuyo promedio ponderado total es de 2,66, valor por encima del promedio. Como factores externos relevantes se identifican al mejoramiento de la economía y a la estabilidad jurídica para los ciudadanos y empresas. Se considera que los factores críticos más importante para tener éxito en el sector automo-triz de los Estados Unidos son: I&D e imagen de marca. Esto se refleja en el análisis de la matriz de perfil competitivo o MPC en donde Toyota tiene la mayor valoración (3,07). Con el análisis interno se confirma que, precisamente, las ventajas competitivas de Toyota USA son: capacidad de I&D e imagen de marca, alineadas a los factores críticos más im-portantes demandados por el sector (tal como se refiere en el párrafo anterior). Esto se sustenta en las matrices VRIO y EFI, siendo el valor obtenido en esta última de 2,87, el cual está por encima del promedio, indicando una posición interna fuerte. Ambas son ca-pacidades importantes para el planeamiento estratégico 2011-2013.

All'interno dell'elaborato è possibile ritrovare gli antichi valori Toyota alla base del suo successo, come rispetto, teamwork, kaizen, genchi genbutsu e challenge, applicati al mondo del purchasing. Ciò, sia analizzando lo stesso ufficio acquisti di TMHMI, sia vedendo come gli stessi vengono utilizzati durante l'esecuzione di un progetto di riduzione muda, il Direct Delivery Spain. Grazie a questo progetto, i carrelli elevatori non transiteranno più all'interno delle concessionarie per ricevere le relative personalizzazioni, ma quest'ultime verranno eseguite direttamente nella factory. Oltre a ciò, si eviterà il muda organizzativo dei carrelli che avanzano nella linea senza batteria definitiva. Il candidato ha quindi svolto diverse analisi durante l'esperienza, esaminando il mercato delle batterie e la compliance (carrelli ordinati con batterie), oltre ad impostare la strategia d'acquisto con il fornitore di accumulatori, che verrà quindi inserito tra i preferred: scelta giustificata dai numeri analizzati, che porteranno vantaggi ad entrambe le controparti.

De senaste åren har miljömedvetenhet och socialt ansvar blivit en allt större trend i samhället. Allt fler organisationer upprättar så kallade hållbarhetsredovisningar där de beskriver sitt miljöarbete och sitt samhällsansvar. Utgångspunkten för uppsatsen är rapporternas betydelse för bolaget. Företaget kan använda dem som styrmedel för att verkligen minska sin miljöpåverkan. Motivet kan också vara att bli accepterat av omgivningen genom att upplysa att de, precis som många andra, också bryr sig om miljön. Att organisationen vill visa att de har samma värderingar som resten av samhället för att bli kunna bli berättigade är ett utryck för den så kallade legitimitetsprincipen. Det är den teori som studien är kopplad till. Probelemet som undersökts är om hållbarhetsredovisningens utveckling kan förklaras med hjälp av legitimitetsprincipen. Studien har genomförts med en hermeneutisk ansats. Det empiriska materialet som undersökts är Volvokoncernens och Toyotakoncernens alla hållbarhetsredovisningar som givits ut. Rapporternas utformning och innehåll har granskats samt hur de har utvecklats och förändrats under åren. Anledningen till att bilbranschen har studerats är att den påverkar miljön negativt på flera områden. Volvo gav ut sin första hållbarhetsredovisning 1991. De första rapporterna behandlade företagets miljöpåverkan främst i form av skadliga utsläpp. Med tiden utvidgades redogörelsen till att också innehålla information om miljömål och om bolagets sociala ansvar. Toyota publicerade sin första hållbarhetsredovisning 1999. Företaget började med att beskriva sitt miljöarbete kring koldioxid, farligt avfall och återvinning. Efter några år valde de att också ta upp de sociala aspekterna i verksamheten. Jämförelsen av företagens alla rapporter visar att flera av de miljömål som satts upp har uppnåts och utvärderats. Det innebär att redovisningen kan ses som ett styrmedel i bolaget. Studien visar också att de största utvecklingsstegen i rapporteringen föregås av inrättattandet av internationella kommissioner och globala miljödiskussioner. Samhällsdebatten har alltså påverkat företagens sätt att redovisa. Eftersom organisationerna följt samhällets rådande värderingar kan hållbarhetsredovisningens utveckling delvis förklaras med hjälp av legitimitetsteorin.

Toyota USA desde 1957 a 1999 mantuvo un crecimiento lento “jojo” –principio Toyota- y desarrollo constante con calidad “kaizen” llegando en 1999 a 8% de market share. En la década del 2000, cambió su estrategia y priorizó el crecimiento acelerado, sacrificando controles en sus lanzamientos, llegando a 13,9% de MS en el 2008. El análisis externo e interno evidencia que la crisis económica ha sido manejada, el gobierno ha adoptado medidas para reactivar la industria y promover la demanda. La competencia ha adoptado medidas de reestructuración y fusiones, y se están recuperando. En cambio, Toyota ha frenado su crecimiento; sus ventas han caído de 1,908 millones de vehículos en el 2008 a 1.718 millones al 2010, y su MS está en 15,3%, lo que representan una amenaza ante las debilidades que afronta: su imagen, crecimiento lento y sistemas productivos y de calidad. En la formulación del plan estratégico se debe corregir la tendencia, recuperar la imagen y establecer acciones estratégicas de marketing para impulsar las marcas en los segmentos convencional, premium e híbrido, y acelerar su crecimiento, recuperando mercado y alcanzando al líder GM pero con calidad y de manera sostenible.

El presente trabajo realiza un análisis estratégico para Toyota en USA, abarcando los siguientes aspectos: (i) Los antecedentes de la compañía, la descripción del negocio, el alcance geográfico, la visión, la misión y los valores corporativos; (ii) La evaluación externa del macroentorno, el nivel de atracción y el ciclo de vida de la industria, así como el perfil competitivo y (iii) La descripción y el análisis de la cadena de valor, los recursos y capacidades y la posición financiera. La principal conclusión obtenida en este sentido es la gran capacidad de Toyota en USA de aprovechar las oportunidades y combatir las amenazas del entorno, gracias a su sólida posición financiera y su liderazgo en el mercado. A partir de ello, se establecen los objetivos para Toyota en USA en términos de rentabilidad, crecimiento y supervivencia. Seguidamente se elabora una serie de herramientas de generación de estrategias, tales como la Matriz FODA, la Matriz PEYEA, la Matriz BCG, la Matriz interna-externa y la Matriz de la gran estrategia. Asimismo se elabora la matriz de alineamiento estratégico que nos permite seleccionar las estrategias competitivas y de negocios que serán implementadas. Finalmente, se definen la estrategia competitiva y la de negocio.

Abstract:

Business Intelligence (BI) is as an academic subject a rather unexplored research field and within the business context, BI leads an ambivalent existence. BI is foremost used either as a term capturing other intelligence terms or as a denotation for decision-support systems. Within this Master Thesis, BI is therefore approached as an umbrella concept covering both these offshoots. The Thesis is centered on a Case Study conducted at Toyota Material Handling Europe (TMHE) and the initiated process of defining and enhancing Strategic Business Intelligence. TMHE has divided their BI in Strategic and Operative BI, where the latter has been in focus historically.

The Case Study indicates that it is neither pragmatic nor illustrational to define BI as an umbrella concept and that BI is too complex to be described only in one dimension (i.e. in Strategic and Operative). A new structure is proposed in which BI is described with three frameworks (Activities, Categories, and Processes); in order to better capture the complexity of the subject. As a way to improve the BI work within TMHE, an information needs analysis was conducted among the top and middle management using a modification of the World Mapping Method. The outcome of the analysis was suggestions of potential areas for coordination of information needs. To improve issues of handling of unstructured information within TMHE, there is a need for change of the organizational culture. The concepts of Wiki, RSS, and Enterprise Search, all connected to Enterprise 2.0, are seen as tools that could help the organization.

The overall purpose of the thesis is to analyze the innovative way Toyota China Company has implemented lean principles. This thesis is an exploratory investigation of the concept of innovative lean performed through case study of Toyota China. Abstract:
Toyota faced a massive international recall crisis in 2009 that threatened to destroy its image in relation to the quality and safety of its vehicles. The majority of Toyota’s recalls were issued in the United States, where Toyota was heavily scrutinized in media coverage. This exploratory study examines media and public relations content to examine how the media framed the crisis, and how Toyota framed image repair efforts during the crisis. It explores the foundations of image and communication, drawing upon William James and Jürgen Habermas, in addition to the theoretical underpinnings of impression management and framing analysis (e.g., Goffman, 1959; 1974), source selection (e.g. Hall et al., 1978), and image repair and crisis communication (e.g., Benoit, 1997; Coombs, 2007). Qualitative framing analysis is employed to code and analyze data sourced from three American newspapers, as well as Toyota U.S.A.’s press releases during the crisis period. The framing analysis revealed the fundamental role of customers and industry experts in defining a crisis when an organization’s credibility is diminished in the media, as well as the strong presence of culturally embedded themes in media framing. Toyota’s recovery was strongly linked to its actions to communicate transparently, remedy the situation, and demonstrate cultural sensitivity to its American customers. Drawing upon the findings, this study provides general recommendations for corporate crisis communication at the various stages of issue management, the crisis, and post-crisis.

A. teve como principais objectivos conhecer o conceito de homologação automóvel, analisar a legislação que define os processos para aprovação de modelos e viaturas automóveis, conhecer e descrever os procedimentos seguidos pelo departamento de homologação automóvel e aplicar o conhecimento adquirido em casos práticos decorridos ao longo do período de estágio. Homologação automóvel significa aprovar componentes, sistemas e unidades técnicas automóveis de acordo com os requisitos e disposições impostos por directivas e regulamentos. O procedimento de homologação da Comunidade Europeia tem como directiva “quadro” a Directiva 2007/46/CE. A aprovação segundo esta Directiva, conhecida como WVTA, engloba aprovações de um conjunto de directivas separadas respeitantes aos vários sistemas e componentes automóveis. Esta Directiva apresenta disposições nos procedimentos para homologação individual de viaturas, veículos produzidos em pequenas séries, fins-de-série, certificados de conformidade, conformidade de produção, etc. Na prática, homologação automóvel trata-se de um processo meticuloso e exige profundo conhecimento da legislação nacional, europeia e internacional. Neste processo, é essencial acompanhar as constantes actualizações da legislação que, desta forma, acompanha o progresso tecnológico, salvaguardando questões como protecção ambiental, segurança rodoviária e eficiência energética.
The training carried out as required for the integrated master’s degree in the field of engineering and industrial management in the homologation department of Toyota Caetano Portugal, S. A. had as main objectives to grasp the concept of automobile homologation, to analyze the legislation concerning the processes for approval of automobile’s vehicles and models, to understand and describe the procedures followed by the homologation department and to apply the obtained knowledge in practical cases occurred during training period. Automobile homologation means to approve automobile’s components, systems and technical units, following the requirements and dispositions presents in the directives and regulations. The European Community homologation procedure has as “master” directive the Directive 2007/46/CE. The approval according to this directive, WVTA, encompasses a set of separate directive’s approvals related to several automobile´s systems and components. This Directive has some dispositions on the procedures to individual homologation, small series, end of series, certificate of conformity, certificate of production, etc. In practice, automobile homologation is a meticulous process and requires deep knowledge of national, european and international legislation. In this process, is essential to follow the continues updates of legislation that by this way follow the technologic progress taking in to account subjects such as environmental protection, traffic safety and energy efficiency.

The work is based on the theoretical knowledge described in the first part. The first part is then followed by a practical section, in which I first describe the current market situation in the automotive industry in Czech and Slovak Republic. Further I characterize the company Toyota Motor Czech spol. s.r.o. itself, then I describe the most important car models and related market segments. Later in the practical part I analyze the models of Toyota in terms of price and marketability over the competition. The final section summarizes the information obtained and gives some recommendations that the company could use in the future to improve the position of individual models.

This final thesis is focused on evaluation of company Toyota Peugeot Citroën Automobile Czech, s.r.o. There were used several evaluation methods, among which belong cash-flow discount method (FCFE and FCFF) and economic value added discount method (EVA). The final thesis is composed of two main parts. The first theoretical part provides general insight into evaluation methodology. For example what company is, why evaluation should be performed, what evaluation categories exist etc. The second part is dedicated to practical use of evaluation knowledge. This includes strategic analysis, creation of value generators (i.e. sales, profit margin, working capital, and long-term assets value generators). From four of these value generators, company financial plan for years 2012-2016 has been made. Financial plan is then used as source for final evaluation. The evaluation of Toyota Peugeot Citroën Automobile Czech, s.r.o. at 30 April 2013 equals to 24,483 million CZK.

Devido à concorrência de mercado, pressões por baixo preços e por influência das montadoras, este processo se tornou importante na indústria de autopeças. Este trabalho apresenta uma pesquisa-ação, cujo objetivo é analisar as dificuldades e benefícios da aplicação das principais técnicas e ferramentas da produção enxuta em uma célula de montagem manual e no processo de injeção plástica em indústria de autopeças. O estudo também analisa a atuação do coordenador do projeto na Empresa. O procedimento utilizado foi a pesquisa bibliográfica, levantamento dos dados operacionais e questionários de pesquisa. Os resultados obtidos foram: a) a identificação das principais dificuldades na implementação, b) a identificação dos principais benefícios, c) a avaliação do atendimento das expectativas de cada projeto, d) avaliação desempenho do coordenador do projeto, e) melhoria nos resultados operacionais. Os resultados obtidos neste trabalho podem servir como base para futuros trabalhos, pesquisas e aplicações.
The Toyota Production System (TPS) is being widely implemented in various companies around the world to attain a high degree of performance, competitiveness, speed up processes, reduce waste and improve quality. Due to market competition, low price pressures and the influence of the automakers, this process has become critical in the auto parts industry. This study presents an action research aiming to examine the difficulties in implementing the key techniques and tools of lean production in a cell assembly manual and the injection molding process in the auto industry. The study also analyzes the performance of project coordinator at the company. The procedure used was a literature search, survey of operational data and survey questionnaires. The results were: a) identifying the major difficulties in implementation, b) identification of the main benefits, c) the assessment of meeting the expectations of each project, d) performance evaluation of the project coordinator, e) improvement in operating results. The results of this work can serve as a basis for future work, research and applications.

Summary: The warning bells are ringing. Once a global auto giant with a gold-plated reputation for safety and reliability, Toyota has stumbled. Its engineering excellence and traditional craftsmanship are being watered down by years of nips and tucks. With a torrent of high-profile recalls at the beginning of the new decade and a series of highly publicized legal charges, Toyota is all over the headlines. Following a business strategy that sacrifices its customer-first focus but in favor of driving shareholder value, Toyota gradually has shifted away from the tenet of lean manufacturing. Seeking cost leadership and market leadership has gone too far, and differentiation through quality, reliability and fuel efficiency becomes blurred. The execution of such business strategy in the past few years has lured Toyota to rush into relationships with suppliers it has not adequately vetted and to apply questionable security measures as it sourced parts from all around the world. In so doing, Toyota has been constantly adding stress to the security of its supply chain. In the end, its risk mitigation capability does not improve and quality standards have lapsed. Globalization and commoditization have forced today's businesses to focus on cost-cutting and growth to achieve profits of struggle to survive. Consequently, offshoring and outsourcing have become common practice. In such a competitive environment, supply chain is the lifeblood of a business and supply chain security is well-recognized as a competitive advantage and even a marketing tool. Security Secure supply chain is critical in product quality assurance and combating counterfeit, for which authoritative product attribute service represents an urgent need. For a long time, product attribute service is considered a Business-to-Business application. Trading partners of a supply chain build and share product information amongst themselves. Consumers are basically excluded from accessing such information. On the other hand, typically, product information provided to the end consumers are maintained by individual retailers. Such an approach is heterogeneous, error-prone, inaccurate, incomplete, and it undermines consumer confidence. There is a gap for authoritative product attribute service (APAS) that can provide uniform, validated, timely and complete product info to the end consumers. With APAS, consumers will play an active role in monitoring and contributing to the security of the supply chain. With a mobile barcode scanner or mobile RFID reader in hand, consumers will become a vibrant force in combating counterfeits, detecting 'bogus' status and reducing illegal trade. Consumers will benefit from such new capability by protecting their rights to buy genuine products with correct status and through legitimate channels. In addition, a spectrum of important mobile commerce applications will be made possible, such as trustful product attributes retrieval, attribute-based product search and comparison, product rating and commenting. With APAS, brand owners and other supply chain partners will see unprecedented possibilities such as direct customer-facing product marketing e.g. product recommendation, individualized coupon promotion, as well as direct user feedback on feature request and defect report. All of this will allow them to build competitive advantages with shorter user interaction cycles, more fragile to user demand variation, targeted and efficient product design, responsive product recall, and more effective in attacking counterfeits. In this thesis, I strive to provide a timely in-depth analysis on the mechanisms behind Toyota's crisis, especially the linkage between business strategy and supply chain security. I will relate secure supply chain to competitive advantage, and authoritative product attribute service to secure supply chain. Based on this, I perform strategic analysis and propose an architectural design for product attribute service. As a proof of concept, I design and implement a prototype of APAS with decent size of APAS repository and support for both mobile and PC clients. To this end, I first formulate the problems and explain the motivations behind secure supply chain and product attribute service. I then give an overview of the journey of Toyota from the synonym of quality to the reminder for product recalls. To provide further more background knowledge, I will examine business strategy and competitive advantage, together with secure supply chain, in the following two chapters. In particular, I will be deliberating on the causality between business strategy and supply chain strategy, and how supply chain vision and strategy can lead to operational executions that are sources of QA crises. In the next section, I provide details on architectural design for Authoritative Product Attribute Service. Afterwards, I describe the prototyping and implementation of APAS that covers the backend product attribute repository, the web backend that powers the APAS, as well as the Android-based mobile frontend. Finally, I summarize with concluding remarks and outline directions for future research.

El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo proponer un plan estratégico para la empresa Toyota Motor Corp. EE.UU. sobre la base del año 2010 (cerrado en marzo de 2011). Hasta el año 2007 Toyota había mantenido un crecimiento sostenido de sus ventas, principalmente debido a su orientación hacia la calidad. Sin embargo, el continuo incremento de las ventas encontró una estructura organizacional limitada. En el año 2008 se inició la crisis financiera global que afectó a la industria automotriz lo que ocasionó la reducción de las ventas de vehículos y, por lo tanto, una mayor competencia. Toyota continuó con su política agresiva de reducción de costos apartándose de su filosofía de calidad y orientándose al volumen; lo cual consideramos que es el problema principal. La agresiva reducción de costos y la orientación al volumen ocasionó problemas de calidad en sus vehículos, debido a fallas en diseño y procesos de producción, inadecuado control de calidad de las autopartes y vehículos; así como la falta de un adecuado sistema de gestión de riesgos. Debido a los problemas de calidad, Toyota tuvo que efectuar llamados a revisión (recalls) y paralizar temporalmente la producción de ocho modelos lo cual redujo sus ventas y dañó la imagen de la marca. Nuestra propuesta de solución al problema principal es que Toyota se reoriente hacia la calidad para lo cual proponemos mejorar la capacitación, optimizar el aseguramiento de calidad, efectuar una mayor investigación de los materiales y componentes de los vehículos, implementar un sistema de gestión de riesgos, recuperar el índice de satisfacción del cliente y mejorar la imagen de la marca que permitirán fortalecer a la corporación para que supere la situación actual y retome su liderazgo en el sector.

Este estudo baseia-se no conceito de liderança positiva proposto por Cameron (2008). Inquiriu-se uma amostra constituida por 58 colaboradores da Toyota Caetano Portugal, S.A. em Ovar. Foi usada a técnica dos incidentes críticos. Da análise de conteúdo resultaram 4 categorias de comportamentos positivos do líder (e.g., procura desenvolver os seus colaboradores), 5 categorias de comportamentos negativos (e.g., liderança desmobilizadora/desmotivadora), 3 categorias de reacção aos comportamentos positivos (e.g., confiança e relacionamento positivo com o líder), e 5 categorias de reacção aos comportamentos negativos (e.g., emoções e sentimentos negativos). Os resultados revelam que, quando os líderes se comportam positivamente, isto é, procuram desenvolver os seus colaboradores e respeitam as necessidades e características dos mesmos, proporcionam sensações de bem-estar nos seus seguidores. Os colaboradores estabelecem relações de confiança com o líder e equipa, tornam-se mais empenhados nas suas tarefas e adoptam comportamentos e atitudes positivas. Por outro lado, os líderes que não são claros na definição dos papéis, que não confiam e desvalorizam o trabalho dos colaboradores, provocam sensações de tristeza, indiferença e desmotivação nos seus colaboradores.
This paper is based on the concept of leadership from Cameron (2008). A sample of 58 collaborators from Toyota Caetano Portugal, S.A. in Ovar were inquired using the critical incident technique. From the analysis resulted 4 categories of positive behaviours of the leader (e.g., looks for the improvement of the collaborators), 5 categories of negative behaviours (e.g., demotivating leadership), 3 categories of reaction to positive behaviours (e.g., trust and positive relationship with the leader), and 5 categories of reaction to negative behaviours (e.g., negative emotions and feelings). The results reveal that, when leaders behave positively, this means, to look for the improvement of the collaborators and to respect the needs and characteristics of the collaborators, they give to their followers feelings of well being. The collaborators have trust relations with the leader and the team, become more committed in their tasks and adopt positive behaviours and attitudes. On the other side, leaders that are not clear in the definition of the functions, that have no trust and that give no value to the collaborators work, lead to feelings of sadness, indifference and demotivation of the collaborators.

Toyota Caetano Portugal, S.A., belongs to Salvador Caetano Group and it develops its activities in the manufacturing, importing and distributing automotive vehicles area, constituting itself as a benchmark in the sector. Over five months, the intern had the opportunity to join Marketing and Communication Department of the company mentioned before, following the team, learning some concepts and methodologies that allow her to start a career in a more empowered and competent way. Since the late 2009, the famous vehicle manufacture Toyota has suffered a severe crisis due to unintended quality problems in its cars which had triggered Toyota’s largest officially recalls of its cars around the world. This crisis threatens the company’s previous reputation of good quality cars, as well as the brand image built up over time. This study aims to elaborate on the Toyota crisis in order to understand why Toyota faces this crisis and how they deal with the crisis; and investigate consumers’ perceptions of Toyota brand as the outcome of the crisis, with a focus on Swedish market. A qualitative research along with a number of face-to-face interviews with Toyota Swedish dealer and Swedish vehicle consumers is conducted. The findings reveal that the impact of the Toyota crisis in Sweden is not as serious as that in North America; there remain satisfied and loyal Toyota’s customers who are not swayed by the negative publicities; While Toyota should manage the crisis even in a better way in order to retain its good reputation.

В даному дипломному проекті був спроектований легковий автомобіль. Для виконання даного розрахунку вихідним матеріалом був конструктивний прототип автомобіля, виконавши порівняльний аналіз серед схожих автомобілів, вибрали прототип ВАЗ 2108, робочі параметри якого близькі до вказаних в завданні, по якому було виконано розрахунок. В розділі визначення масових показників автомобіля, визначили загальні параметри автомобіля, його розподіл ваги по осям, параметри двигуна, та визначили шини автомобіля, які краще за все підійдуть для коліс, щоб витримати певне навантаження розрахували передаточні числа на кожній з передач. Потужність двигуна при розрахунках складає 61,5 кВт, максимальну швидкість яку може розвивати Vmax =150 км/год, максимальні оберти колінчатого вала nmax = 5600 хв.-1 Передавальні числа КП: 1-ша передача і1 = 2.6; 2-га передача і2 = 2.0; 3-тя передача і3 = 1.6; 4-та передача і4 = 1.3; 5-та передача - пряма (і5 = 1). Передавальне число передачі заднього ходу ізх = 2.3. Виконали розрахунок двигуна, а саме тепловий розрахунок двигуна на кожній стадії роботи кривошипно-шатунного механізму, побудували графік скруглення індикаторної діаграми, потім визначили кінематику та динаміку КШМ, розрахували сумарні сили, які діють на кривошипно-шатунний механізм, шатунні шийки колінчастого валу, та побудували діаграму зносу й визначили набігаючи моменти, що діють на вал. При вирішенні задач, пов’язаних з визначенням динамічних властивостей автомобіля користувались його тяговою характеристикою. При цьому використовували зовнішню швидкісну характеристику двигуна. Для побудови графіків силового балансу брали розрахунки для всіх передач автомобіля. За показниками тягової характеристики автомобіля побудували силовий баланс автомобіля. Динамічну характеристику будували на основі тягової характеристики автомобіля.. Також крім динамічної характеристики двигуна побудували номограму навантажень.Побудували графік прискорень автомобіля (залежність прискорення від швидкості руху автомобіля). Максимальне значення прискорення j=2.62 м/с2при швидкості руху V=6.641 м/с. Побудували графік залежності від швидкості руху автомобіля часу, шляху розгону і шляху гальмування. В розділі з паливною економічністю автомобіля визначили витрату палива в різних експлуатаційних умовах автомобіля, й за даними розрахунками побудували графік витрати палива при різних дорожніх умовах видно, що найбільш економічний режим руху при ψ = 0,015, та при швидкостях 15…25 м/с. Спеціальна частина кваліфікаційної роботи складається з двух розділів, в першому розділі виконали розрахунок КПП. Визначили число зубців шестерень. Після проведення розрахунків отримали такі значення: z1 = 12, z2 = 19, z3 = 27, z4 = 31, z5 = 38, z6 = 38, z7 = 40, z8 = 40, z9 = 35, z10 = 31, Визначили модуль зубців. За даними розрахунків приймаємо m=2.75. Провели перевірку на міцність, умова виконується. У другому розділі спеціальної частини було розглянуто вторинний вал коробки перемикання передач з подальшою розробкою технологічного процесу відновлення деталі. При відновленні валу КПП була виконана технологічна карта, за допомогою якої вибрали методи усунення для кожного дефекту. Вибрані варіанти кріплення деталі під час обробки на різних операціях, розробили технологічний маршрут відновлення деталі. Провели розрахунки припусків, режимів обробки та норм часу. Наведено інструкцію з охорони праці при фрезеруванні.

При виконанні кваліфікаційної роботи бакалавра розрахунки та креслення виконували в таких програмах, як: “Компас” та “Mathcad”.

Toyota USA es una de las empresas más poderosas de Estados Unidos de Norteamérica, teniendo como actividades económicas la importación, ensamblaje, distribución y venta de vehículos. Posee el segundo lugar de producción y ventas a nivel Toyota Motor Corp. y cuenta con un 15,2% de participación en el mercado local. El caso proporcionado por la Escuela de Postgrado de la Universidad del Pacífico nos centra en el año 2010, con los siguientes datos de importancia: decremento de ventas de 5,2% en unidades y 3,08% en dólares (a comparación del año 2009), utilidad operativa de 1,5% y margen bruto de 12%. El planteamiento estratégico se establece en el período 2011-2013 en Estados Unidos de Norteamérica. Atualmente, devido à grande competitividade, as empresas procuram integrar as filosofias Lean nos seus processos produtivos. Para iniciar a jornada lean e aplicá-la da melhor maneira, é necessário ter “atitude mental” de se realizar, diariamente, de forma incessante, a procura pela maximização do valor através da eliminação de desperdícios e da melhoria dos processos produtivos. O presente relatório descreve a aplicação de alguns conceitos lean, nas regras fundamentais de uma linha de produção da Toyota, nomeadamente na fábrica de Ovar. Outro aspeto importante para as empresas e que foi fulcral no desenrolar do projeto é a padronização dos processos que permite unificar a cultura do ambiente de trabalho e impor uma única maneira de entregar o que o cliente deseja da maneira certa. O projeto desenvolvido na empresa teve como objetivos a redução do lead time, melhoria nas condições de trabalho e produtividade e padronização das operações. Para que esses objetivos fossem atingidos realizou-se uma pesquisa bibliográfica para criar uma base teórica sólida e numa segunda fase foi feita uma pesquisa de campo que incluiu ir para o “chão de fábrica” conhecer a realidade fabril. Com o desenvolvimento deste projeto, colocou-se em prática os fundamentos base para o bom funcionamento de uma linha de produção, que passou por padronizar os processos, elaborando documentos standard e estabelecendo regras para o bom funcionamento da linha de produção, o que foi uma mais valia para a empresa. Com todas as medidas implementadas atingiram-se os objetivos propostos, tais como uma maior satisfação do colaborador, melhores condições de trabalho, redução de movimentações do operador e acima de tudo obteve-se o controlo dos processos.
Currently, due to the great competitiveness, companies are seeking to integrate Lean philosophies in their production processes. To begin a lean journey and apply it in the best way, it is necessary to have "mental attitude" to perform, daily, so unrelenting, the search for maximizing value through the elimination of waste and improvement of production processes. The present document describes the implementation of some lean concepts, in the fundamental rules of a production line of Toyota, especially in Ovar factory. Another important aspect for companies and that was key in the development of the project is the standardization of processes that allows unifying the culture of the workplace and imposing a single way of delivering what the customer want in the right way. The project developed in the company aimed to reduce the lead time, improved work conditions and productivity as well as improve the operations. To achieve these objectives, a bibliographical review was performed to create a solid theoretical basis and in a second phase a field survey was carried out, which included going to the "shop floor" to know the factory reality. With the development of this project, a set of basic practices for the smooth running of a production line, which passed through standardizing processes and developing standard documents were applied. The tools implemented allowed the achievement of the proposed the objectives, such as the increased of the operator satisfaction, improve safety conditions, reduction of operator movements and above all, the company increased the control of its production processes.

The Production Manager at Atlas Copco AB Craelius wants to adopt a lean approach to become more competitive. This thesis is an exploratory study of the subject and what it means for the business activity and its implementation process. The objective is to provide a basic understanding of lean to the company, and what this means for Atlas Copco AB Craelius. The report describes the industrial revolution in brief. This is because the company itself must understand where certain ways of looking at production management is derived from. Furthermore, it provides an understanding of Lean's origins. The report describes lean principles and outline, some of the lean tools and methods as well as what these mean for Atlas Copco Craelius AB. The focus of the report is on education and the importance of management's knowledge and understanding of the subject. At the end of the report an adequate but overall implementation program is presented as well as a few examples of possible improvements. The thesis is based on a basic literature review of production management and lean. To get a general understanding of the business, I studied the assembly for a few days, talked to the staff, participated in the daily pulse meetings and participated in the production office Friday meetings. I did a study at Atlas Copco Tools AB to learn how they managed the implementation of lean there. Furthermore, personal experience from previous training, work and study has influenced the report.

Supply chain management has experienced great changes within the last fifty years. Inevitably, many companies entered the global market with the prime intention to achieve their defined goals. In comparison with the local markets, the global environment requires more efforts and changes in the supply chain operation in order to remain viable in business. Several business models are introduced for achieving the success in the market, suggested by the following researchers: Liker, Choi, Ronald Gilson, andMark J. Roeand others.  In a row with the study cases of Honda and Toyota Companies, the Supply Chain Trading Security is presented. Within this paper the security approaches are discussed during the processes of market penetration and development globally. The main strengths and weaknesses of the models are highlighted in the thesis. The description of market situations and explanation of the models’ application is presented. In order to achieve better results in the analysis of the case studies, the qualitative and inductive research methods have been implemented. The secondary data is considered to be the cornerstone of the thesis. Due to the fact that the thesis is based on descriptive, partially explanatory, and qualitative research methods, different meanings and experiences related to the Supply Chain Security phenomenon are discussed. In order to obtain the necessary data, library catalogues, encyclopedias, databases, and search engines in the Internet are utilized. The thesis goes through the following processes: choice of research area, formulation of research questions, choice of method, formulation of research design and data collection techniques, implementation of data collection, analysis of data, interpretation of data, and finally conclusions. The studied companies in the thesis – Toyota and Honda – conducted four major supply chain models that are neatly explained through the research. Partnership, Supplier Keiretsu, ARA, and Triple-A are the operated models. The following issues have been derived as conclusions: many components of supply chain security in terms of trade, affect the whole organization to a great extent. In order to keep the customer loyalty, image, and brand, companies should focus on their own core competence. Complex, transnational, and multi-vendor supply chain security models require more collaboration on safety issues that is approximately a half of the whole job. In addition, management and control of activities are necessary in order to achieve the target, go through the obstacles, and manage the current market situation.  Economic, political, and nature influence are key determinants of the supply network situation and give the possibility for a company to gain benefits, and control all business activities. The optimal choice of the model is considered to be the main tool aiming to manage all aforementioned tasks. Furthermore, diverse cultural differences influence the choice of the models that are implemented by the American and Japanese companies.

Syfte: Syftet med denna uppsats är att skapa en förståelse för hur Toyota Material Handling Sweden AB organiserar sitt arbete med internkontroll och styrning, samt vilka grundläggande förutsättningar som finns för att erhålla en god internkontroll.  Avgränsning: Denna studie är avgränsad till Toyota Material Handling Sweden AB och dess ekonomiavdelning. På grund av begreppets omfattning klargörs här att studien enbart kommer fokusera på den interna kontrollen och styrningen, det vill säga den kontroll företaget själva utför.   Metod: Denna studie präglas av en kvalitativ metod, en intern fallstudie för att nå djupare förståelse i studiens undersökta företag.  Teoretisk referensram: Den teoretiska referensramen i denna studie baseras på teorier och tidigare studier kring riskhantering, internkontroll, internkontrollens ramverk samt internrevision.  Empiri: I empirin sammanfattas primärdata bestående av en öppen intervju och två semistrukturerade intervjuer öga mot öga, varav en i kombination med en observation, samt sex intervjuer via mejl.  Slutsats: Toyota Material Handling Sweden AB har en väl utvecklad och ständigt närvarande internkontroll genom värderingar, rutiner och ramverket J-SOX. Företaget lägger stor vikt på att integrera alla individer i verksamheten för att nå målen. För att upprätthålla en god internkontroll utgör individerna en grundläggande förutsättning, tillsammans med utbildning, kompetens och uppföljning.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to create an understanding of how Toyota Material Handling Sweden AB organizes their work in regards to internal control, as well as investigate what essential conditions that are necessary to receive good internal control.  Delimitation: This study is limited to the finance department of Toyota Material Handling Sweden AB. The scope of this study concerns internal control only, that is, the control that the company performs itself.  Method: This study is characterized by a qualitative method. An internal case study to gain a deeper understanding of the study's investigated company.  Theoretical framework: The theoretical framework in this study is based on theories and previous studies on risk management, internal control, internal control framework and internal auditing.  Empirics: The empirics summarizes primary data consisting of an open interview and two semi-structured interviews eye-to-eye, one of them in combination with an observation, and six interviews via email.  Conclusion: Toyota Material Handling Sweden AB has a well developed and constantly present internal control through values, routines and the J-SOX framework. The company highlights the importance of integrating all individuals into the business to achieve the goals. In order to maintain good internal control, individuals are an essential condition, together with education, competence and follow-up.

Abstract:
This thesis is based on fieldwork I carried out between December 1987 and June 1989 while living with the residents of a small Warlpiri Outstation Community situated ca. 75 km north-west of Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory of Australia. Colonialism is a process whereby incommensurate gender regimes impact differently on women and men and this is reflected in the indigenous response which affects the socialization of Western things. The notion of the indigenous KIRDA-KURDUNGURLU reciprocity is shown to be consistent with a gender system and to articulate all exchange relations as pro-creative social relationships. This contrasts with the Western capitalist system of production and social reproduction of gendered individuals in that it does not ascribe gender to biological differences between women and men but is derived from a land based social division between Sister-Brother. Social relationships are put under great strain in an effort to socialize Western things for Warlpiri internal use, I argue that the colonization of Aboriginal societies is an ongoing process. Despite the historical shift from a physical all-male frontier to the present day cross-cultural negotiations between Aborigines and Non-Aborigines, men still privilege men. The negotiation process for ownership of a Community Toyota is the most recent phenomenon where this can be observed. Male privilege is established by linking control over the access to the Community Toyota with traditional rights to land. However, the Toyota as Western object has a Western gender identity as well. By pitting women against men it engages people in social conflict which is brought into existence through an organisation of Western concepts based on an alien gender regime. But Western things, especially the Community Toyota, resist socialization because the Warlpiri do not produce these things. Warlpiri people know this and, to satisfy their need for Western things, they engage them in a process of social differentiation. By this process they can be seen actively to maintain the Western system in an effort to maintain themselves as Warlpiri and to secure the production of Western things. This investigation of the cultural response to Western influences shows that indigenous gender relations are only maintained through a socially stressful process of socializing Western things.

A atividade de trabalho apresenta algumas características que podem ser prejudiciais para quem o executa. Fatores como a repetitividade, a monotonia das tarefas, a adoção de posturas desconfortáveis e a exposição a elementos mecânicos, como as vibrações provocadas pelas ferramentas utilizadas, podem constituir um risco para a saúde, podendo originar ou agravar determinadas doenças. As chamadas doenças profissionais, e em particular as doenças músculo-esqueléticas, são um flagelo para a sociedade, tanto no que diz respeito à saúde dos trabalhadores como à produtividade das empresas. O trabalho aqui apresentado reflete o estudo realizado na TCAP, com vista a identificar postos de trabalho onde o risco de contrair lesões músculo-esqueléticas é elevado (com recurso ao método JT/SJT), relacionar o risco com as suas causas principais e atuar em conformidade para diminuir o efeito dessas causas, recorrendo a ferramentas próprias da ergonomia e da engenharia. As conclusões do estudo revelam que se conseguiu diminuir de 38% para 0% as atividades onde o risco de contrair lesões músculo-esqueléticas era elevado. Para além disto, evidencia-se que a questão da ergonomia está ainda numa fase de maturação na TCAP e que há um longo caminho a percorrer neste domínio de forma a maximizar-se a segurança, a saúde e a satisfação de todos os colaboradores.
The work activity reveals some characteristics that can be harmful for those who perform it. Factors like the repeatability, the monotony of the tasks, the adoption of uncomfortable positions and the exposure to mechanical elements, such as vibrations caused by the tools used, can raise a health risk, leading to or aggravating some diseases. Professional illnesses, particularly the musculoskeletal ones, are a plague for the society, both in what concerns to the workers health as in what concerns to the companies productivity. The study presented here reflects the work accomplished in TCAP in order to identify workstations where the risk of musculoskeletal diseases is high (using the JT/SJT method), relate the risk with the principal causes and act in accordance to reduce the causes of that risk, using ergonomics and engineering tools. The conclusions of the study show that was possible to reduce from 38% to 0% the activities where the risk was high. In addition to this, shows that issues like ergonomics still are in a maturation phase in TCAP and there is, still, a long way to go in order to maximize the safety, the health and the satisfaction of all employees.

An important concept that has undergone several transformational turns is brand management. A brand name is essential for business operation because all other factors that contribute to the success of businesses rotate around it. The value that accrues to global companies as a result of the proper management of a brand cannot be over emphasized. Toyota is one of the most successful brands in the global market, and the brand success goes beyond the automobile industry. Among the various auto companies in Ghana, Toyota has emerged as one of the big players. This thesis focuses on how companies can create value through proper management of their brands; using the case of Toyota Ghana limited. The work here was to find out the brand management strategies of Toyota and how these strategies have contributed to its success. Several strategies for managing brands were discussed in this work. The findings were that, successful brand management impacts positively on the company's market share.

Nesta época em que vivemos uma das mais graves crises económicas e a maioria dos mercados europeus e mundiais registam graves recessões, impõe-se um tempo de mudança de pensamento e de abordagem à gestão tradicional. Temas como a qualidade e o custo baixo adquirem relevância ainda maior na sobrevivência das empresas, visto que os mercados se encontram cada vez mais competitivos. Para isto, as empresas são forçadas a analisar com melhor detalhe e pormenor os seus processos e a redesenhá-los com vista à redução ou, em alguns casos, eliminação de tudo o que não acrescente valor para a empresa, ou seja, eliminação de desperdícios nos seus processos. A metodologia do sistema de produção Toyota embora iniciada e concebida no seio da produção, abrange todas as áreas de uma empresa, sendo transversal a toda a empresa desde a parte produtiva, administrativa, recursos humanos, qualidade, engenharia e até logística externa e interna. Esta ultima tem vindo a afirmar-se num contexto global, através da sua implementação em diversas empresas e consequente uso das suas ferramentas. Com isto, as empresas conseguem obter excelentes resultados na melhoria de qualidade, redução de custos, na relação com os seus clientes e até na melhoria de relacionamento interno entre os diversos departamentos. Esta dissertação pretende evidenciar através do estudo de caso único, como a aplicação de ferramentas e técnicas do sistema de produção Toyota no contexto real de uma empresa da indústria automóvel, que se encontra inserida num grande polo industrial de Setúbal como é o da Volkswagen Autoeuropa, pode proporcionar a criação e aumento de valor acrescentado e a eliminação de desperdícios nos seus processos. Para a realização deste estudo de caso da empresa Schnellecke recorreu-se ao estudo de inúmeras técnicas e ferramentas tais como a metodologia Lean, VSM, TPM, 5S, gestão visual, ferramentas da qualidade, os cinco porquês, poka yoke, sistema de controlo Kanban, processos uniformizados e folhas de processo, heijunka e Kaizen. Este estudo permite realçar a importância do sistema Toyota que se denota nos enormes ganhos obtidos tendo em conta os investimentos para a melhoria das situações.
Abstract: In the time that we live one of the most serious economic crises in which most European and world markets are experiencing severe recessions, managers are inevitably shifting the thinking and approach from the traditional management. Issues like quality and low cost acquire even greater importance in the survival of firms because markets are increasingly the competitive. To do this, companies are forced to examine with better detail their processes and redesign them with tools to reduce, or in some cases eliminate everything that does not add value to the company, or in other words the elimination of waste in their processes. The methodology of the Toyota production system although initiated and conceived within the production , covers all areas of a company , being cross functional throughout the company since production , administrative, human resources , quality, engineering, internal and external logistics. This has been asserting itself in a global context, with several companies implementing it and using their tools to obtain excellent results in quality improvement, cost reduction, better relationship with its customers and to the improvement of internal relationships between different departments. This dissertation intents to show how using the unique case study in the application of tools and techniques of the Toyota Production System in the actual context of a company from the automotive industry which is inserted into a major industrial center in Setubal as the Volkswagen Autoeuropa, can provide creation and increase of value added and eliminating waste in their processes. For the realization of this case study in the company Schnellecke resorted to the study of numerous techniques and tools such as Lean, VSM, TPM, 5S, visual management, quality tools, the five whys, poka yoke, Kanban control system, standardized processes and methodology sheets process, heijunka and Kaizen. This study allows us to highlight the importance of this Toyota system that denotes the huge gains made taking into account the investments of improving the processes.
