In vivo studies on the glucose system often require its perturbation by an exogenous input of glucose, whereas glucose turnover is assessed by infusing a glucose tracer. The constant infusion represents the usual format of tracer administration, but it has no clear advantage other than simplicity. Here we propose a different tracer infusion format. It consists of infusing the tracer in parallel with unlabeled glucose so as to maintain a constant specific activity in the infusate. This protocol does not increase experimental complexity and provides new information on the glucose system in non-s

A kinetic formalism for the analysis of stable isotope transient tracer data is developed by establishing the link with the formalism available for radioactive tracer data. The crucial variable is the tracer-to-tracee ratio. By expressing the measurements in terms of this ratio, the conventional kinetic formalism used for radioactive data can be applied to estimate noncompartmental parameters using stable isotope tracer data. The tracer-to-tracee ratio also plays an important role in compartmental modeling. By considering the tracer masses in the compartments as state variables the system-expe

The monsoon layer tracer (0–1.5 km) is the most efficiently transported in the upper troposphere with concentrations 3 to 4 times higher than the other tracers in the anvil. Abstract:
Abstract Recent advances in the field of light emitting diodes have enabled the production of new all solid-state fluorometers. High intensity light emitting diodes are used to excite the fluorophores and photocells are used to detect the emission. These fluorometers are small, with low power consumption, but they are highly sensitive with exceptional stability and low noise. The instruments are used in conjunction with water treatment chemicals that contain an inert fluorescent tracer. Handheld, battery-powered units are used for grab sample analysis and provide greatly improved accuracy with

Abstract:
Abstract Dissolved oxygen in boiler systems is known to cause corrosion. Mechanical deaeration removes the majority of the dissolved oxygen while oxygen scavengers remove the remaining trace level. Sodium sulfite is a commonly used scavenger, but has several use limitations, such as high solids contribution to boiler water and decomposition products that are corrosive gases which can cause downstream equipment problems. A novel sulfite replacement oxygen scavenger has been developed which addresses the limitations of sulfite. Identification and demonstrated performance of the new scavenger is

Abstract:
Measurement of the throughput of a natural gas compressor can be undertaken using a constant flow tracer dilution technique. In this technique, a constant flow of tracer is introduced into the piping upstream of the compressor while samples of diluted tracer are measured downstream of the compressor. The samples are analyzed using a specially configured analyzer. Knowledge of the injection rate and injection concentration coupled with the downstream measurement of tracer concentration allows the throughput through the compressor to be calculated. Under this contract, three systems were fabrica
