Abstract:
Software radio is a technique for implementing reconfigurable radio systems using a combination of various circuit elements and digital hardware. By implementing radio functions in software, a flexible radio can be created that is capable of performing a variety of functions at different times. Numerous digital hardware devices are available to perform the required signal processing, each with its own strengths and weaknesses in terms of performance, power consumption, and programmability. The system developer must make trade-offs in these three design areas when determining the best digital hardware solution for a software radio implementation. When selecting digital hardware architectures, it is important to recognize the requirements of the system and identify which architectures will provide sufficient performance within the design constraints. While some architectures may provide abundant computational performance and flexibility, the associated power consumption may largely exceed the limits available for a given system. Conversely, other processing architectures may demand minimal power consumption and offer sufficient computation performance yet provide little in terms of the flexibility needed for software radio systems. Several digital hardware solutions are presented as well as their design trade-offs and associated implementation issues.

Abstract:
In order to maximize fitness, individuals must partition their limited resources among competing physiological processes, creating negative statistical associations between processes known as "life-history trade-offs". Evidence indicates that individuals tend to decrease their reproductive investment when confronted with a significant immunological challenge in order to increase investment in immune defense. This trade-off is often accompanied by a significant decrease in the sexual signal, which provides an honest signal of the male's infection status to potential mates. However, if individual residual reproductive value is low, they may instead increase their reproductive investment to maximize reproductive success before the end of their life (a.k.a. terminal investment). Here, we investigate the potential for terminal investment in the ground cricket Allonemobius socius by inoculating males with varying dosages of an immune challenge. We predicted that both high dose and advanced male age would induce terminal investment. Furthermore, we predicted that terminally investing males would produce a dishonest signal by increasing their signaling effort. We found that upon infection We found that upon infection, young males and old males differentially alter their reproductive strategy. Young males exhibited the classic deceleration of reproductive effort. However, old males increased their calling song energetics and decreased their parental investment (nuptial gift size), suggesting that old males are dishonestly signaling their condition to the female.

Abstract:
Tourism fuels the Zanzibari economy but adds to the depletion of marine resources. However, the concept of corporate biosphere stewardship suggests that companies with consolidated power can influence sustainability pathways. Can tourist hotels practically support octopus closures, a novel conservation tool, as a way towards sustainable marine resource consumption? I address this issue by making the first known attempt to estimate Zanzibari hotels’ seasonal and annual octopus demand, mapping their value chain structure and identifying the nature of their demand. The study relies on semi-structured interviews of 31 respondents (hotel staff, hotel suppliers, market traders, food importers and key informants) and official data. I assess the demand of hotels to range between 16 to 27 percent of the mean 2008-2018 annual catch in Zanzibar. Hence, this consumer power hotels may confer agency for them to contribute to resource conservation such as octopus closures. Hotels may support closures particularly if they match seasonality in octopus price and demand. However, hoteliers’ use of a wide sourcing network including imports may lead to diluted price signals hampering understanding and incentives to protect the local octopus supply. Additionally, hoteliers’ weight preferences largely correspond with the Zanzibari voluntary minimum weight limit, but do not align with the desired outcome of bigger octopus from closures. The typical practise of purchasing fresh octopus and limited freezer capacity of hotels may also limit their agency to support octopus closures. This study makes a novel contribution of linking octopus conservation with tourism. It furthermore nuances the concept of corporate biosphere stewardship by assessing the practical potential of Zanzibari tourism, a less consolidated industry, to contribute to marine resource conservation.  Further research into local biosphere stewardship of value chains within low-income country contexts should investigate differences in use of consumer power by small as opposed to large-scale businesses. In addition, similar assessments could benefit from research into local spatial and relational value chains, and their influence on hoteliers’ capacity to perceive of supply status through price signals, not only for octopus but seafood in general.

Hivyo basi nguvu ya maoteli wanaweza kua mashirika ya kuchangia uhifadhi wa rasilimali kama kufungia mwamba kwa uvuvi wa pweza. Mahoteli yanaweza kuwasaidia kufungwa kwa mwamba kwa uvuvi wa pweza hasahasa ikiwa watafanana kwa msimu na kwa upatikanaji. Ingawaje wenye mahoteli wanatafuta chanzo kikubwa ikiwemo kuagiza kutoka nje ambayo inaweza kushusha bei na ni ishara ya kuzuia kutoa motisha ya kulinda usambazaji wa ndani. Kwakuengezea wenye mahoteli uzito wanaoupendelea unawiana na ule wa kiwango cha chini cha Zanzibar, lakini hayaendani na matokeo ya matakwa yao ya pweza wakubwa wakati wa kufungia mwamba kwa uvuvi wa pweza. Mahoteli hayawezi kuwa kama mashirika ya kusaidia kufungs pweza kutokana na kutaka pweza ambao wametoka kuvuliwa na vilevile uwezo mdogo wa majokofu yao kuweza kuhifadhi pweza hao. Tafiti zijazo zinazohusiana na biosphere stewardship ya mtiririko wa thamani kwa muktadha wa nchi zenye kipato kidogo zifanye uchunguzi juu ya tofauti ya nguvu ya watumiaji wadogo wadogo inavyoenda kinyume na biashara kubwa. Kwa kuengezea uchunguzi kama huo utanufaisha watu wa hali za chini na mahusiano ya mnyororo wa thamani na mchango wao kwa uwezo wa wenye mahoteli kutambua hali ya usambazaji kupitia bei zake si kwa pweza peke tu bali ni kwa vyakula vya baharini vyote.

Abstract:
Many signals in nature are complex and composed of several components. However, the advantages and disadvantages of complex signaling are not completely understood. Although complex signals are advantageous for vertebrate decision-making processes, our understanding of whether similar advantages exist for invertebrates is limited. To investigate how signal complexity influences learning and decision-making in foraging bumblebees (Bombus impatiens), I trained them on unimodal (shape or olfactory) or multimodal (shape and olfactory) flowers. Addition of olfactory cues to visual cues improved the learning of bees. A speed-accuracy trade-off in decision-making reflects the difficulty of decisions. The bees trained on multimodal flowers made more accurate decisions without reducing their speed, and had higher target finding rates (correct visits/total decision time). These results suggest that bees forage more efficiently when flowers signal in more than one modality, and support arguments pointing out problems with studying signal components separately.

This thesis considers the problem of reconstructing system level behavior of an SoC design from a partially observed signal trace. Solving this problem is a critical activity in post-silicon validation, and currently depends primarily on human creativity and insights. In this thesis, we provide algorithms to automatically infer system level flows from incomplete, ambiguous, and noisy trace data. This thesis also demonstrates the approach on two case studies, a multicore SoC model developed within the within the GEM5 environment, and a cycle accurate register transfer level model of a similar SoC design.

Cette thèse porte sur la façon dont les individus prennent des décisions en présence de risque et d'incertitude. Elle est composée de quatre essais qui étudient théoriquement et expérimentalement la prise de décision.Les deux premiers essais étudient des situations où un décideur doit décider si un événement a eu lieu en utilisant des informations incertaines. Le fait d'identifier correctement que cet événement s'est produit est plus rémunéré que le fait d'identifier correctement qu'il ne s'est pas produit. Ce problème de décision induit une divergence entre deux qualités d'une décision : l'optimalité et l'exactitude. Les deux essais reproduisent de telles situations dans une expérience de laboratoire basée sur des tâches perceptuelles et analysent les décisions en utilisant la théorie de la détection du signal pour étudier l'arbitrage optimalité-exactitude. Le premier essai confirme l'existence d'un tel arbitrage avec un rôle dominant de la recherche de l'exactitude. Il explique l'existence de cet arbitrage par utilité non-monétaire associée au fait d'avoir raison. Le deuxième chapitre montre que présenter les informations perceptuelles en dernier contribue à l'existence de l'arbitrage optimalité-exactitude.Le troisième essai étudie comment les préférences vie-à-vie d'autrui interagissent avec l'attitude face à l'ambiguïté. Il présente les résultats d'une expérience où les sujets doivent faire des dons à des associations caritatives. Les dons peuvent avoir des coûts ou des bénéfices ambigus. Nous constatons que l'ambiguïté a pour effet de rendre les individus plus égoïstes. En d'autres termes, nous montrons que les individus utilisent l'ambiguïté comme une excuse pour ne pas donner. Ce comportement d’auto-justification est plus marqué pour les coûts ambigus que pour les avantages ambigus.Le quatrième essai examine la validité externe des mesures de préférence pour le risque en laboratoire en utilisant des décisions dans d'autres tâches expérimentales risquées et des décisions prisent sur en dehors du laboratoire. Nous constatons que les mesures de préférence pour le risque permettent d'expliquer les premières, mais qu'elles n'expliquent pas les secondes
This thesis investigates how individuals make decisions under risk and uncertainty. It is composed of four essays that theoretically and experimentally investigate decision-making.The first two essays study situations where a decision maker has to decide whether an event has occurred using uncertain evidence. Accurately identifying that this event has occurred is more rewarded than accurately identifying that it has not occurred. This decision problem induces a divergence between two qualities of a decision: optimality and accuracy. Both essays reproduce such situations in a laboratory experiment based on perceptual tasks and analyze behavior using Signal Detection Theory to study the optimality-accuracy trade-off. The first essay confirms the existence of the trade-off with a leading role of accuracy. It explains the trade-off by the concern of individuals for being right. The second chapter finds that presenting perceptual evidence last contributes to the existence of the optimality-accuracy trade-off.The third essay studies how other-regarding preferences interact with attitude toward ambiguity. It reports the results of an experiment where subjects have to make donations to charities. Donations may have either ambiguous costs or ambiguous benefits. We find that other-regarding preferences are decreased under ambiguity. In other terms, we highlight that individual use ambiguity has an excuse not to give. This excuse-driven behavior is stronger for ambiguous costs than ambiguous benefits.The fourth essay challenges the external validity of laboratory risk preference measures using behavior in experimental risk tasks and naturally occurring behavior under risk. We find that risk preference measures are related with the former but that they fail to explain the latter

Post-Silicon validation is playing an increasingly important role as more chips are failing in the functional mode due to either manufacturing defects escaped during scan-based tests or design bugs missed during pre-silicon validation. Critical to the diagnosis engineer is the ability to observe as many relevant internal signal values as possible during debug. To do so, trace buffers have been proposed for enhancing the observability of internal signals during post-silicon debug. Trace Buffers are used to trace (record the values of) the internal signals in real-time when chip is in its normal operation. However, existing trace buffer architectures trace very few signals for a large number of cycles. Thus, even with a good subset of signals traced, one often still cannot restore all the relevant values in the circuit. In this work, we propose two different flexible trace buffer architectures that can restore the values for all signals by making the trace signals configurable. In addition, the buffer space can also be shared among different traced signals which makes the architectures highly flexible. As compared to conventional trace buffer architectures, the new architectures have comparable area overhead but offer the ability to restore all signals in the circuit. For cases of less than 100% restoration, the ability of circuit invariants to improve the signal restoration is explored. A promising direction for the future work is provided where targeted invariants may lead to better restoration scenario during post-silicon validation.

En complément des analyses de concentration et de spéciation, les analyses des isotopes stables du mercure par MC-ICP-MS sont à l’heure actuelle un outil majeur pour tracer les sources et les transformations de cet élément dans l’environnement. Cette thèse propose le développement de techniques de pré-concentrations couplées au MC-ICP-MS afin de réaliser des analyses isotopiques de mercure au niveau du ng.L-1 (Ultra-trace). La stratégie de pré-concentration en ligne va générer des signaux transitoires courts dont la gestion en MC-ICP-MS représente un réel défi. Afin d’y répondre, une méthode de traitement de données adaptée à ce type de signaux ainsi qu’une méthode de correction du phénomène de dérive isotopique ont été développées. Dans le but de déterminer des compositions isotopiques en mercure total à de faibles concentrations, le couplage d’une génération de vapeur froide, d’une double amalgamation sur or (CVG-DGA) et d’un MC-ICP-MS a été développé. Cette nouvelle technique donne des précisions externes de l’ordre de 0.20 à 0.30‰ (2SD) pour des concentrations en mercure de 5 ng.L-1 en solution. Cette thèse présente également une nouvelle méthode d’analyse isotopique par espèce chimique (CSIA) réalisée à l’aide du couplage d’une chromatographie en phase gazeuse équipée d’un injecteur PTV (GC-PTV) et d’un MC-ICP-MS. Celle-ci permet l’analyse isotopique de plusieurs espèces chimiques avec des précisions externes de l’ordre de 0.30 à 0.40‰ (2SD) pour des concentrations en mercure de 150 ng.L-1 dans des échantillons biologiques.Les développements analytiques de cette thèse ont permis de mesurer directement et de façon automatisée des compositions isotopiques de mercure à des niveaux d’ultra-trace (jusqu’à 5ng.L-1) tout en conservant des précisions compatibles avec les principales questions environnementales posées. Ceci va permettre d’analyser des compartiments environnementaux contenant de faibles quantités de mercure (eaux naturelles, planctons,…) et ouvre ainsi de nouvelles perspectives pour une meilleure compréhension du cycle bio-géochimique du mercure
In addition to the quantitative and speciation analysis, the analysis of mercury stable isotopes by MC-ICP-MS are now a tool of choice to track sources and pathways of this element in the environment. This PhD thesis presents the development of hyphenation between pre-concentration techniques and MC-ICP-MS to measure isotopic composition of mercury at ng.L-1 levels (Ultra-trace). The on-line pre-concentration strategy will create short transient signals which represent a real challenge for MC-ICP-MS. In order to solve it, a data treatment strategy for this particular signals and a correction method for the isotopic drift were developed.The hyphenation between a cold vapor generation, a dual gold amalgamation (CVG-DGA) and a MC-ICP-MS was developed to determine total mercury isotopic composition. This new technique gives external precisions ranging from 0.20 to 0.30‰ (2SD) for Hg concentration in solution of 5 ng.L-1. This PhD thesis also reports a new method to perform mercury compound specific isotopic analysis (CSIA) using a gas chromatography fitted with a PTV injector (GC-PTV) coupled to the MC-ICP-MS. This allows the isotopic analysis of several species with external precisions ranging from 0.30 to 0.40‰ (2SD) for mercury concentration down to 150 ng.L-1 in biological samples.The analytical developments proposed in this PhD thesis allows to automatically and directly measure mercury isotopic compositions at ultra-trace levels (down to 5 ng.L-1) while keeping precision compatible with main environmental questions. This will allow to analyze environmental compartment containing very low amount of mercury (natural waters, planktons,…) and then open new perspectives for a better understanding of the bio-geochimical cycle of mercury

Abstract:
Ecological immunology is the study of the ecological and evolutionary factors that explain variation in the function of, and investment in, the immune system. Within this field, reproduction-based trade-offs are an important focus, where studies often address the immunological costs associated with the expression of secondary sexual traits used in mate choice. Specifically, the Immunocompetence Handicap Hypothesis (ICHH) links the expression of secondary sexual traits to immune function, stating that testosterone promotes the expression of these traits while suppressing the immune system. In doing so, testosterone may maintain the honest expression of such traits, but also ultimately cause sex differences in immunity because males tend to have high levels of testosterone. I explore aspects of these topics using two model systems: the Psittaciformes (Parrots: Chapter 2) and the Charadriiformes (shorebirds), in particular the sex-role reversed Red phalarope (Phalaropus fulicarius). In Chapter 2, I employed a phylogenetically informed approach to investigate the relationships among immune investment, plumage colouration and longevity in parrots. I found that immune investment was greater in more colourful species, as well as in those with a slower pace-of-life (i.e., longer incubation periods), but not specifically in those with longer lifespans. In Chapter 3, I investigated the role that reproductive behaviours play in determining sex differences in corticosterone levels. One explanation for sex differences in the stress response is that selection favours a reduced response in incubating birds to reduce nest abandonment. I generally found little support for sex differences in corticosterone being driven by behaviours related to incubation. Moreover, in phalaropes, sex differences in corticosterone were already present prior to incubation. In Chapter 4, I found that males have higher levels of testosterone than females, but that females were immunosuppressed compared to males. However, I found evidence that testosterone may regulate immune function in females, but not males. The observation of female-biased immunosuppression is consistent with Bateman’s Principle, and although there was some evidence of a testosterone-mediated handicap acting through immune function, these results attest to a fundamental lability in the relationship between testosterone and immunity. In Chapter 5, I demonstrated that plumage colouration in phalaropes is condition-dependent and so potentially conveys useful information to conspecifics. Yet, the relationship was negative in both sexes such that more colourful individuals had poorer immunocompetence, which was contrary to predictions. In Chapter 6, I demonstrated that phalaropes pair assortatively (positively) based on plumage colouration, but negatively based on aspects of size. I discuss the results of this dissertation in the light of life history theory, as well as in the context of mechanisms maintaining signal honesty.

The car is the most common vehicle in the world. Millions of cars are produced annually. In order for each car to find its buyer, car companies are forced to constantly improve the design of the car. Modern models are emerging, new car systems are being developed and implemented. All this is accompanied by a huge flow of information, in which it is easy to get lost. This master’s work is devoted to the trace analysis and connection of two different files. The paper proposes a developed algorithm of trace analysis for some functions of the vehicle in the C++ programming language. The files that we use to trace analysis relate to the model and the final result of its simulation.EATOP is a tool with which a model based on the EAST-ADL language was developed. Adapt is an event simulator with which our model of automotive functionality was simulated. The purpose of the study is to identify possible ways to meet timing requirements. The work is carried out in collaboration with Volvo Group Truck Technology. This company provided the LogFile, which presents results of the simulation, and model. We get an analysis of performance, one of the ways to trace data and timing. The results of our implementation are presented and discussed.

Abstract:
In 1982, the Financial Accounting Board (FASB) issued Statment of Financial Accounting Standards No. 69 (SFAS No. 69) which required oil and gas producing companies to disclose supplementary information to the basic financial statements. These disclosures include, costs incurred, capitalized costs, reserve quantities, and a standardized measure of discounted cash flows. The FASB considered these disclosures to be necessary to compensate for the deficiencies in historical cost financial statements. The usefulness of the new signals created by SFAS No. 69, however, is an empirical question and research regarding that objective is lacking. The objective of the study is to test the usefulness of SFAS No. 69. The research strategy used to achieve that objective is to compare the discriminant and predictive power of SFAS No. 69 signals or SFAS No. 69 signals combined with financial signals to that of financial signals alone. The research hypothesized that SFAS No. 69 signals by themselves or as supplmentary to financial signals have more discriminant and predictive ability for business failure in oil and gas industry than do financial signals alone. In order to test that hypothesis, the study used the multiple discriminant analysis technique (MDA) to develop three equations. The first is based on SFAS NO. 69 signals, the second on financial statement signals, and the third on joint financial and SFAS No. 69 signals. Data were collected from the 10-K's arid the annual reports of 28 oil and gas companies (14 failed and 14 nonfailed). The analysis was repeated for four time bases, one year before failure, two years before failure, three years before failure, and the average of the three years immediately before failure. After assessing the discriminant and predictive ability of each equation in the four time bases, a t-test was used to determine a significant difference in the discriminant and predictive power existed between SFAS No. 69 signals or SFAS No. 69 signals combined with financial signals and financial signals alone. The study concluded that SFAS No. 69 signals by themselves or as supplementary to financial statements have more discriminant and predictive power for business failure than financial signals alone in the analyses of the third year before failure and of the average of three years before failure. The study, however, found no significant difference in the discriminant and predictive ability in the analyses of one year and two years before failure. The results indicated that SFAS No. 69 signals are useful for financial report users in detecting the deterioration of the financial position of an oil and gas company before failure.

The main focus of this thesis is placed on high frequency PCB signal Integrity Is-sues and RF/Microwave filters using EBG structures. From the signal Integrity aspect, two topics were mainly discussed. On one hand, the effect of increasing frequency on classical design rules for crosstalk reduction in PCBs was investigated experimentally and by full-wave simulations. An emphasis was placed on the 3×W spacing rule and the use of guard traces. Single-ended and differential transmission lines were considered. S-parameter measurements and simu-lations were carried out at high-frequency (up to 20 GHz). The results emphasize the necessity to reevaluate traditional design rules for their suitability in high frequency applications. Also, the impacts of using guard traces for high frequency crosstalk re-duction were clearly pointed out. On the other hand, the effect of high loss PCB ma-terials on the signal transmission characteristics of microstrip lines at high frequency (up to 20 GHz) was treated. Comparative studies were carried out on different micro-strip configurations using standard FR4 substrate and a high frequency dielectric ma-terial from Rogers, Corporation. The experimental results highlight the dramatic im-pact of high dielectric loss materials (FR4 and solder mask) and magnetic plating metal (nickel) on the high frequency signal attenuation and loss of microstrip trans-mission lines. Besides, the epoxy-based SU8 photoresist was characterized at high frequency (up to 50 GHz) using on-wafer conductor-backed coplanar waveguide transmission lines. A relative dielectric constant of 3.2 was obtained at 30 GHz. Some issues related to the processing of this material, such as cracks, hard-skin, etc, were also discussed. Regarding RF/Microwave filters, the concept of Electromagnetic Band Gap (EBG) was used to design and fabricate novel microstrip bandstop filters using periodically modified substrate. The proposed EBG structures, which don’t suffer conductor backing issues, exhibit interesting frequency response characteristics. The limitations of modeling and simulation tools in terms of speed and accuracy are also examined in this thesis. Experiments and simulations were carried out show-ing the inadequacies of the Spice diode model for the simulations in power electronics. Also, an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model was proposed as an alternative and a complement to full-wave solvers, for a quick and sufficiently accurate simulation of interconnects. A software implementation of this model using Matlab’s ANN toolbox was shown to considerably reduce (by over 800 times) the simulation time of microstrip lines using full-wave solvers such as Ansoft’s HFSS and CST’s MWS. Finally, a novel cooling structure using a double heatsink for high performance electronics was presented. Methods for optimizing this structure were also discussed.

Elle propose une méthodologie pour l'intégration et le développement de Systèmes Contrôlés par le Produit(SCP). Celle-ci a vocation de permettre d'implémenter une architecture de contrôle par kanbans et/ou produits « actifs », adaptable aux systèmes de production d'une entreprise. Le premier chapitre de la thèse décrit le contexte industriel. A l'issue de ce chapitre émerge les problèmes de synchronisation de flux de l'entreprise. Le second chapitre présente une étude bibliographique des stratégies existantes de pilotage de flux et apportant donc des éléments de réponse à ces problématiques. Après avoir montré l'apport des systèmes contrôlés par le produit dans la résolution de ceux-ci, ce chapitre montre le besoin de méthodes d'ingénierie pour concevoir un SCP adapté « au plus juste » au système industriel étudié. Le troisième chapitre est consacré à la définition de la problématique scientifique. En réponse à celle-ci, la proposition d'une méthodologie de conception et d'intégration des systèmes contrôlés par le produit est présentée dans le quatrième chapitre. Cette méthodologie s'appuie sur l'approche d'ingénierie système « six-sigmas » pour piloter le projet de conception du SCP par des indicateurs issus des besoins des utilisateurs. L'utilisation de la simulation événementielle permet de concevoir l'architecture la plus pertinente au regard des indicateurs de performance retenus et de valider a priori l'intégration du SCP ainsi conçu dans son environnement. Abstract:
The hallmark of oceanic anoxic event 1a (OAE1a) (early Aptian ~125 Ma) corresponds to worldwide deposition of black shales with total organic carbon (TOC) content > 2% and a d13C positive excursion up to ~5‰. OAE1a has been related to large igneous province volcanism and dissociation of methane hydrates during the Lower Cretaceous. However, the occurrence of atypical, coeval and diachronous organic-rich deposits associated with OAE1a, which are also characterized by positive spikes of the d13C in epicontinental to restricted marine environments of the Tethys Ocean, indicates localized responses decoupled from complex global forcing factors. The present research is a high-resolution, multiproxy approach to assess the paleoenvironmental conditions that led to enhanced carbon sequestration from the late Barremian to the middle Aptian in a restricted, Tethyan marginal basin prior to and during OAE1a. I studied the lower 240 m of the El Pui section, Organyà Basin, Spanish Pyrenees. The basin developed as the result of extensional tectonism linked to the opening of the Atlantic Ocean. At the field scale the section consists of a sequence of alternating beds of cm – m-scale, medium-gray to grayish-black limestones and marlstones with TOC up to ~4%. The results indicate that the lowest 85 m of the section, from latest Barremian –earliest Aptian, characterize a deepening phase of the basin concomitant with sustained riverine flux and intensified primary productivity. These changes induced a shift in the sedimentation pattern and decreased the oxygen levels in the water column through organic matter respiration and limited ventilation of the basin. The upper 155 m comprising the earliest – late-early Aptian document the occurrence of OAE1a and its associated geochemical signatures (TOC up to 3% and a positive shift in d13C of ~5‰). However, a low enrichment of redox-sensitive trace elements indicates that the basin did not achieve anoxic conditions. The results also suggest that a shallower-phase of the basin, coeval with platform progradation, may have increased ventilation of the basin at the same time that heightened sedimentation rates and additional input of organic matter from terrestrial sources increased the burial and preservation rate of TOC in the sediment.

L'objectif de cette thèse est d'analyser le rôle des agences de notation sur le marché financier. Notre contribution consiste à mieux comprendre l'influence des annonces de notation sur les acteurs du marché français des actions (investisseurs et analystes financiers).La première question porte sur l'apport informatif délivré par les agences de notation et l'impact de leurs décisions. Afin de répondre à cette question, nous avons conduit une étude d'évènement à l'annonce de notation en distinguant les annonces par nature, type et catégorie.Cette recherche permet de prouver que les annonces de notation ont globalement un impact sur le marché des actions. L'impact dépend de la nature de l'annonce, des informations fournies dans les rapports de notation, des changements de note entre catégories et de ceux effectués dans la catégorie spéculative. Enfin, le niveau de la note dépend des caractéristiques financières et comptables de l'entreprise notée.La seconde question porte sur le rôle bénéfique des agences de notation sur les marchés. Afin de répondre à cette deuxième question, nous avons conduit une recherche qui consiste à analyser l'évolution de l'asymétrie d'information entre les investisseurs et de la liquidité autour des annonces de notation.Cette recherche prouve que les annonces positives (respectivement négatives) entraînent une diminution (respectivement augmentation) de l'asymétrie d'information sur le marché des actions. Les résultats prouvent également que les annonces positives et neutres, à l'inverse des annonces négatives, entraînent une réduction des fourchettes de prix et une amélioration des volumes de transactions. Ces deux effets concomitants traduisent une amélioration (respectivement détérioration) de la liquidité du marché lors des annonces positives et neutres (respectivement négatives).La troisième question porte sur l'utilité des annonces de notation pour les analystes lors de leurs prévisions. Afin de répondre à cette question, nous avons mené une recherche qui consiste à étudier l'évolution de la dispersion et de l'erreur des prévisions des analystes autour des annonces de notation.Les résultats mettent en évidence une relation inverse entre les caractéristiques des prévisions des analystes financiers et la nature de l'annonce de notation. Les annonces positives et neutres réduisent l'erreur et la dispersion des prévisions d'analystes.Ce travail de recherche permet d'attester de la réelle importance du contenu informationnel des annonces de notation pour le marché des actions et de la réelle contribution des annonces à l'amélioration de la communication financière sur le marché
The main objective of this thesis is to analyze the role of rating agencies on the financial market. Our contribution consists in a better understanding of the impact of rating announcements on the agents on the French financial market (both investors and analysts).First we focus on the information content of announcements by rating agencies and the impact of theirs decisions in the market. To answer this question, we made an event study at the rating announcements, by identifying them by nature, type and category.This research highlights the fact that the rating announcements generally have an impact on the stock market. This impact depends on the nature of the announcement, the information provided in the reports as well as score changes between categories and within the speculative category. Moreover, the rating level depends on the firm financial and accounting characteristics.Second, we intend to understand the beneficial role of rating agencies on the financial markets. To answer this question, we analyzed the evolution of the information asymmetry and stock market liquidity around rating announcements.Our results show that positive announcements (respectively negative) lead to a decrease (respectively increase) of information asymmetry. We also found that positive and neutral announcements, unlike the negative ones, lead to a reduction of bid-ask spread and to an increase of transactions volumes. Both effects reflect higher (respectively lower) stock market liquidity when the announcements are positive or neutral (respectively negative).Finally, we focus on the study of the impact of rating announcements on analysts' forecasts. For this purpose, we studied the evolution of the analysts' forecasts dispersion and errors around rating announcements.Our results indicate an inverse relationship between the characteristics of financial analysts' forecasts and the nature of the rating announcement. Indeed, positive and neutral announcements reduce the error and the dispersion of analysts' forecasts.This research shows the informative content of rating announcements on the stock market and the real contribution of the announcements by improving financial communication

In underwater tracking and surveillance, the active towed array sonar presents a way of discovering and tracking adversarial submerged targets that try to stay hidden. The configuration consist of listening and emitting hydrophones towed behind a ship. Moreover, it has inherent limitations, and the characteristics of sound in the ocean are complex. By varying the pulse form emitted and the trajectory of the ship the measurement accuracy may be improved. This type of optimization constitutes a sensor management problem. In this thesis, a model of the tracking scenario has been constructed derived from Cramér-Rao bound analyses. A model predictive control approach together with information measures have been used to optimize a filter's estimated state of the target. For the simulations, the MATLAB environment has been used. Different combinations of decision horizons, information measures and variations of the Kalman filter have been studied. It has been found that the accuracy of the Extended Kalman filter is too low to give consistent results given the studied information measures. However, the Unscented Kalman filter is sufficient for this purpose.

Les dernières années ont vu une augmentation dans la demande de systèmes de communications numériques efficaces et fiables. Afin de protéger les données transmises contre le bruit, les codes correcteurs d'erreurs doivent être introduits dans le système de transmission. Les codes LDPC (Low Density Parity Check), les codes produits et les turbocodes ont prouvé leur efficacité dans la détection et la correction des erreurs, même à des faibles SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio). Cependant, une dégradation importante dans les performances de ces codes est atteinte dans le cas d'une mauvaise synchronisation au niveau du récepteur. Ainsi, l'utilisation de méthodes de synchronisation efficaces est nécessaire pour le bon fonctionnement d'un système de transmission. Les techniques classiques de synchronisation sont basées sur le rajout de bits pilotes dans la séquence de données à transmettre. La détection de ces bits à la réception nous permet de réaliser la synchronisation. Cependant, ces méthodes ont pour effet de diminuer l'efficacité spectrale de la transmission surtout quand des codes correcteurs d'erreurs de petite taille sont utilisés dans le système. Pour cela, nous sommes intéressés dans cette thèse par la conception de nouvelles techniques de synchronisation aveugles, qui sont capables de synchroniser à des faibles SNR. Nous considérons dans cette thèse le problème de la synchronisation trame, de l'estimation du résidu de porteuse et de l'estimation du déphasage. Nous proposons des techniques de synchronisation originales qui sont basées sur le calcul et la minimisation de fonctions du LLR (Log-Likelihood Ratio) du syndrome calculées à partir de la matrice de contrôle de parité du code correcteur d'erreurs. Les résultats des simulations ont montré que les techniques proposées sont très efficaces et leurs performances surpassent celles de plusieurs méthodes existant dans la littérature.

In the present dissertation thesis the elaboration of porous electrodes via templating methods and their potential application in the field of environmental and neurobiological analysis are discussed. The electrodes of controlled porosity are characterized by an increased internal electroactive area and thus they can be used to enhance significantly the electrochemical performance. High surface area materials are promising for biosensing and more generally in electrochemical experiments. The first part of this work is focused on the elaboration of porous bismuth and antimony film electrodes. These porous electrodes show improved detection limits compared to non-porous one and thus open up promising applications in the field of trace analysis. The second part deals with overcoming limiting factors of microelectrode arrays in the context of extracellular recording and stimulating cellular neuronal networks or neural tissues in culture that can reveal information about interactions and synergetic features of nervous systems

L'indication Géographique, signe distinctif particulièrement spécifique, a connu au XIXème et XXème siècle, par, notamment des législations nationales éparses, des accords bilatéraux ou des conventions multilatérales, voire même l'utilisation contentieuse des moyens juridiques de lutte contre la concurrence déloyale, différents types de protection utiles mais limités. Ces derniers, appuyés par l'intervention de la Communauté Européenne, ont, néanmoins, eu le grand avantage de rendre possible l'émergence internationale, dans l'Accord ADPIC, d'une section spécifique dédiée. Ce texte issu des Accords de Marrakech instituant, en 1994, l'Organisation Mondiale du Commerce (OMC) reconnaît, en effet, l'Indication Géographique comme l'objet d'un droit autonome de Propriété Intellectuelle. Il lui permet de disposer d'une définition et d'un régime juridique, et surtout oblige les différents Membres de l'OMC, à le reconnaître et à le protéger. En posant un principe de liberté dans la mise en œuvre de ce dispositif nouveau qui, contrairement aux autres Droits de Propriété Intellectuelle, et en particulier aux marques, ne s'applique pas à un système préexistant, cet Accord a eu pour conséquence non pas une uniformisation, mais une certaine hétérogénéité des situations nationales. Celles-ci ont pu conduire, dans certains cas, à un métissage ou à une substitution des concepts, notamment à cause de l'intégration des Indications Géographiques dans des systèmes préexistants de Propriété Intellectuelle, comme celui des marques de certification
Geographical Indication, a particularly specific distinguishing sign, experienced throughout the XIXth and XXth centuries, under specially scattered national legislations, joint conventions or bilateral agreements, even under the contentious use of legal means to combat unfair competition, different types of useful but limited protection. These latter, supported by the intervention of the European Community, had however the advantage of contributing to make a specific dedicated section emergence possible in the Trip's agreement. This text coming from the Marrakech Agreements which established in 1994 the World Trade Organization (WTO), recognizes in fact the Geographical Indications as an independent law of Intellectual Property. It allows them to rely on a definition and a legal system, and bind the different members of the WTO to their recognition and protection. In asserting a principle of liberty in the implementation of this new system which, contrary to the other rights of Intellectual Property, and particularly of marks, does not apply to a preexisting system, this Agreement has not resulted in a uniform effect but heterogeneity of national situations. In special cases, these situations may have led to a knowledgeable mix or substitution of concepts, particularly because of the Geographical Indications integration into preexisting systems of Intellectual Property such as certification marks. Beyond the recognition of the Geographical Indication definition in these texts, the existence of two types of protection, simple and additional, has also practical consequences on these different integrations

Abstract:
Ce memoire presente les modelisations directe et inverse entreprisent dans le cadre de la preparation de l'exploitation scientique de l'experience Consert de la mission spatiale Rosetta. Nous nous sommes interesses a la modelisation de la propagation d'ondes radio dans le cas simplifie d'un noyau cometaire a geometrie bidimentionnelle. A cette fin, une technique de trace de rayons (Ray Tracing Method, RTM) a ete developpee et validee par comparaison avec les resultats d'une methode spectrale (Pseudo Spectral Time Domain, PSTD). Cette technique a ete ensuite etendue au cas plus complexe d'une geometrie tridimentionnelle, aboutissant a la realisation d'un simulateur pour l'instrument Consert. Le probleme inverse a ete aborde dans le cas d'une geometrie bidimentionnelle a faibles perturbations de permittivite en utilisant la methode de regularisation de Tikhonov. Son etude a montre son caractere mal pose et fortement non lineaire, ainsi que le role important des informations a priori lors de la reconstruction d'image.

Abstract:
Une importance particuliere a ete apportee a la combinaison entre les informations hydrologiques et chimiques. En effet, le controle de la dynamique actuelle de transferts des elements vers les fleuves est fonction de variations hydroclimatiques qui reglent le cycle de l'eau. Rappelons les principaux resultats acquis. La particularite des bassins de la moselle et de la mossig vient de leur position geographique appartenant a la region dite temperee industrielle. L'etude des facteurs hydrologiques d'un bassin versant necessite une bonne connaissance de divers elements controlant le cycle de l'eau. L'etude de la composition chimique des eaux de surface a permis de deceler l'influence des rejets de pollution des soudieres. Ces pollutions deteriorent completement le signal chimique naturel porte par les eaux. La nature mineralogique des matieres en suspension est caracterisee par une forte contribution des mineraux argileux interstratifies de types 14v-14m, 14c-14m et 14c-14v (40 %) et d'illite (30 %). Le mecacnisme qui regle le piegeage geochimique du phosphore dans les eaux fluviales est l'adsoprtion sur les mineraux argileux. Bien que la sursaturation des eaux vis-a-vis de l'hydroxyapatite est tres elevee, la presence de ce mineral n'a pu etre decelee dans les sediments de la moselle et de la mossig. L'etude des relations debit-concentration a permis de caracteriser l'origine des elements, de calculer les flux de matieres exportees a l'echelle des crues comme a l'echelle d'un cycle hydrologique. Le transport en solution par la moselle et la mossig domine fortement l'exportation solide. Les cycles biogeochimiques des elements majeurs sur le bassin de la moselle sont en grande partie controlee par les pollutions de toutes sortes. La moselle, comme toutes les rivieres des regions soumises a de fortes pollutions, confirme l'action de l'homme comme pertubateur des phenomenes naturels

Abstract:
The development of integrated circuits has been governed by Moore's law for several decades. Through continuous advancements in CMOS technology, the industry has maintained exponential progress rates in transistor miniaturization and integration density. However, this technology scaling trend is only conditionally beneficial for analog circuit performance. Compared with the analog circuits, digital circuits are cheaper, faster, more complex, and more power efficient. Due to these reasons, the researchers are undertaking a paradigm shift from high performance analog circuits to digitally assisted analog circuits. Adaptive impedance matching techniques are attractive because they provide resilience to antenna impedance variation caused by body-effects and several other reasons. In principle, they can preserve maximum radiated power, power amplifier linearity, receiver sensitivity, and power efficiency of a mobile phone simultaneously. However, achieving proper adaptive impedance control over a large impedance region is a challenge. Recent analog and RF circuits are increasing performance and efficiency with the aid of digital technology. To apply this technique to a reconfigurable antenna system, a fully integrated micro-controller based on AMS H35 technology has been designed. Digital calibration blocks wrapped around an analog core are capable of performing dead time and impedance matching schemes. Therefore, the intelligence and robustness of the system are improved significantly. Furthermore, compared with S11 controller (18.8mm2, 186mW), the silicon area of the digitally assisted circuit (4mm2, 62mW) is acceptable. In addition, this dissertation presents a set of convergence criteria for the tunable matching network, which leads to the finding of matching point with high probability. Furthermore, to accelerate the convergence speed, the binary search tuning algorithm has been proposed. In contrast to the single step method, the tuning speed is improved from O(N) to O(log(N)).

Sound waves are the most direct ways to broadcast messages in nature, but due to high-tech techniques, the tracing of sound signals can come true only when lots of expenditures and human resources are used. Consequently, this article research adverts the advantages of the combination of the gray color theory and the PID controller and Fuzzy controller and Genetic Alogorithms to realize the design for sound signals to trace airts. This article is composed of three main parts. The first is to use the piezoel-electric element to make a set of four-direction sound-drawing sensor. It’s used to make samples from analog signal information we get, and these samples will be transformed into digital signals for the computer to analyze, compute and handle; in the mean time, we can acquire the characteristic values of signal sources. The second is to use the advantages of the gray system theory to make analyses and decisions of the characteristic values about gray relational grade, so that we can figure out sixteen-direction sound source targets. The last is to use the PID controller and Fuzzy controller and Genetic Alogorithms to make output control(motor)of the target object and the returning back of the location sensor. Finally, through serial information of the three parts’ processes, we can get a signal-tracing system which is fast, highly accurate and disturbance-proof.

The chip on board (COB) technology has already been used. In order to reduce the size on the printed circuit board, the signal trace may be passed through the bonding wire. The coupling effect between the chip bonding wire and the signal trace on the PCB will be studied in this paper. We can use two parts of discussions in this research. At the first, make simplified the question, study the coupling effect while making the bonding wire between the two transmission lines. At the second, use the result of the first part, study the coupling effect between chip bonding wire and signal trace on COB. The S parameter of the coupling structure will be simulated by the Ansoft HFSS software, and be compared with experiment result. The coupling model is developed by the Agilent ADS software. We also calculate the coupling capacitance and mutual inductance. The coupling effects of different layout on the printed circuit board have been studied in this thesis. The simulation results and experiment results in this paper are useful for the COB application.

Abstract:
Pre-silicon verification is an essential part of integrated circuit design to capture functional design errors. Complex simulation, emulation and formal verification tools are used in a virtual environment before the device is manufactured in silicon. However, as the design complexity increases and the design cycle becomes shorter for fast time-to-market, design errors are more likely to escape from the pre-silicon verification and functional bugs are found during the actual operation. Since manufacturing test primarily focuses on the physical defects, post-silicon validation is the final gatekeeper to capture these escaped design bugs. Consequently, post-silicon validation has become a critical path in shortening the development cycle of System-On-Chip(SoC) design. A major challenge in post-silicon validation is the limited observability of internal states caused by the limited storage capacity available for silicon debugging. Since a post-silicon validation operates on a fabricated chip, recording the values of each and every internal signals is not possible. Due to this limitation of post-silicon validation, acquiring the circuit's internal behavior with the limited available resources is a very challenging task in post-silicon validation. There are two main categories to expand the observability: trace and scan signal based approaches. Real time system response during silicon debug can be acquired using a trace signal based technique; however due to the limited space for the trace buffer, the selection of the trace signals is very critical in maximizing the observability of the internal states. The scan based approach provides high observability and requires no additional design overhead; however the designers cannot acquire the real time system response since the circuit operation has to be stopped to transfer the internal states. Recent research has shown that observability can be enhanced if trace and scan signals can be efficiently combined together, compared to the other debugging scenarios where only trace signals are monitored. This dissertation proposes an enhanced and systematic algorithm for the efficient combination of trace and scan signals using restorability values to maximize the observability of internal circuit states. In order to achieve this goal, we first introduce a technique to calculate restorability values accurately by considering both local and global connectivity of the circuit. Based on these restorability values, the dynamic trace signal selection algorithm is proposed to provide a higher number of restored states regardless of the incoming test vectors. Instead of using total restorability values, we separate 0 and 1 restorability values to differentiate the different circuit responses to the different incoming test vectors. Also, the two groups of trace signals can be selected dynamically based on the characteristics of the incoming test vectors to minimize the performance degradation with respect to the different incoming test vectors. Second, we propose a new algorithm to find the optimal number of trace signals, when trace and scan signals are combined together for better observability. Our technique utilizes restorability values and finds the optimal number of trace signals so that the remaining space of trace buffer can be utilized for the scan signals. Observability can be enhanced further with data compression technique. Since the entries of the dictionary are determined from the golden simulation, a high compression ratio can be achieved with little extra hardware overhead. Experimental results on benchmark circuits and a real industry design show that the proposed technique provides a higher number of restored states compared to the existing techniques.

Abstract:

In this study, a novel and systematic methodology for the design and optimization of conductor-backed coplanar waveguide (CB-CPW) based low pass filter (LPF) is proposed. The width of the signal trace is continuously varied using a truncated Fourier series, and the adjacent gaps are designed in several types established on a specific optimization setup to obtain predefined electrical characteristics with maximum compactness taking into account physical constraints. Trust-region-reflective algorithm (TRRA), genetic algorithm (GA), and particle swarm optimization algorithm (PSO) are taken into account to minimize the developed bound-constrained non-linear objective function respectively.

All types are programmed and analytically verified in MATLAB. Solutions include design parameters such as the physical length and width of the structure, which will be drawn in AutoCAD later on. Also, the optimized layouts are exported to Ansys High Frequency Structure Simulation (HFSS) software for simulation and validation. Non-uniform CB-CPW LPFs are optimized and simulated over a frequency range of 0-6 GHz with a cutoff frequency of 2 GHz. Simulation results show a good agreement with the analytical ones.
