Deterministic inventory model, the economic order quantity (EOQ), reveals that carrying inventory or ordering frequency follows a relation of tradeoff. For probabilistic demand, the tradeoff surface among annual order, expected inventory and shortage are useful because they quantify what the firm must pay in terms of ordering workload and inventory investment to meet the customer service desired. Based on a triobjective inventory model, this paper employs the successive approximation to obtain efficient control policies outlining tradeoffs among conflicting objectives. AbstractFor governments who want to improve their economies via fiscal, monetary, trade or exchange rate policies, the tradeoff between the inflation rate and the unemployment rate is extremely important. This tradeoff has become known as the Phillips curve. Among economists there is no consensus on how to model and estimate the Phillips curve. Ideally, all the factors that could affect the Aggregate Supply and Aggregate Demand curves should be included in the model including exchange rates, transportation costs, infrastructure, weather, income distribution, etc. No researcher has created a mo

Water retention is one of the important services provided by ecosystems. In Multi-Criteria Decision Making problems such as choosing a development policy, selecting software products, or searching for commodities to purchase, it is often necessary to evaluate solution options in respect of multiple objectives. The solution alternative that performs best in all the objectives is the dominant solution, and it should be selected to solve the problem. However, usually the selection objectives are incomparable and conflicting, making it impossible to have a dominant solution among the alternatives. Performance tradeoffs are ubiquitous in both ecological and evolutionary modeling, yet they are usually postulated and built into fitness and ecological landscapes. However, tradeoffs depend on genetic background and evolutionary history and can themselves evolve. We present a simple model capable of capturing the key feedback loop: evolutionary history shapes tradeoff strength, which, in turn, shapes evolutionary future. One consequence of this feedback is that genomes with identical fitness can have different evolutionary properties shaped by prior environmental exposure. Another is that, ge

Abstract This paper presents a constraint management methodology, which facilitates tradeoff studies during conceptual design. This approach represents design models as constraints between variables, and uses the resulting constraint network to automatically derive computational procedures for performing user-specified tradeoff studies. By decomposing large constraint networks into smaller pieces that can be solved robustly, this approach can solve extremely large systems of non-linear equations present in practical system models.
