Modern digital computation techniques have made it possible to compute a base profile for a bell so that it will have some particular, predetermined eigenfrequencies. Practice has shown that with a combination of these modern techniques and the traditional skills of an experienced bell founder, a carillon bell can be made that contains an unconventional "major-third" partial and is in other respects at least as well-tuned as traditional carillon bells of high quality. An experimental movable carillon with 47 major-third bells was built and was found to be aurally quite distinguishable from a c

Abstract In order to make full use of the ESDD test data of on-site bell insulators to evaluate the area pollution level, a new calculation method of the bell insulator to double-shed insulator contamination ratio is proposed, which is based on the principle of minimizing the misjudgment of the area pollution level. Natural contamination test was carried out in Taizhou, Zhejiang province, and the contamination ratio was calculated based on the test data. According to the probability distribution model of test data, 10,000 sample data are randomly generated for verification. The results show th

As an essential subset of Chinese music, traditional Chinese folk songs frequently apply the anhemitonic pentatonic scale. In music education and demonstration, the Chinese anhemitonic pentatonic mode is usually introduced theoretically, supplemented by music appreciation, and a non-Chinese-speaking audience often lacks a perceptual understanding. We discovered that traditional Chinese anhemitonic pentatonic folk songs could be identified intuitively according to their distinctive bell-shaped pitch distribution in different types of pitch histograms, reflecting the Chinese characteristics of Z

This paper presents key results from experimental work on traditional bronze casting, focusing on early to high medieval bells, roughly between the 8th and 12th century AD. It demonstrates that combining craft, historical sources, and modern science can effectively revive lost technologies. The reconstruction is based on Theophilus Presbyter’s Schedula Diversarum Artium, dated to the early 12th century, whose precise instructions were critical, though several field-scale experiments were required to refine the process. These experiments are part of broader research into medieval large-scale cas

In this paper, I argue that the Shrapnel–Costa no-go theorem undermines the last remaining viability of the view that the fundamental ontology of quantum mechanics is essentially classical: that is, the view that physical reality is underpinned by objectively real, counterfactually definite, uniquely spatiotemporally defined, local, dynamical entities with determinate valued properties, and where typically ‘quantum’ behaviour emerges as a function of our own in-principle ignorance of such entities. Call this view Einstein–Bell realism. One can show that the causally symmetric local hidden vari

First of all, the Siberian bishops, who often had liturgical practice in central Russia, were the bearers of the experience. Before coming to Siberia, funeral knells evolved from single strikes in a special bell to change ringing in all the bells followed by a chord, and their two-part form was developed. Their multiple meanings, influenced by Byzantine and European traditions, related to the key Orthodox notions, are analyzed. However, many questions pertaining to the extent of effectiveness of peace journalism and its application to other forms of media remain unanswered.
