Purpose: Open reduction and internal fixation of fractures is surgical procedure guided by standard principles and often performed by Orthopaedic specialists. Unfortunately, some quacks now dabble into performing these complex procedures resulting in several complications. However, it has becoming a serious public health concern in that a traditional bone setter in collaboration with some health workers (quacks who were community health extension workers) engaged in performing an open reduction and internal fixation for a femoral fracture in our index patient with very severe complications.&#x

This paper reviews and reflects on the policy efforts to integrate traditional healers in Nepal. Most people in rural Nepal rely on traditional healers for their primary health care needs, not only because health facilities in rural areas are poorly functioning but also because these healers meet various health care needs. The kind of traditional medicine provided by traditional healers (such as herbalists, bone setters, faith healers, and traditional midwives) is much more accessible to them than the practitioners of biomedicine and scholarly traditional medicine (such as Ayurveda, Unani, and

In its reading of the bone people, this chapter reexamines Keri Hulme’s controversial borrowings from literary modernism in light of her claims to represent a postcolonial identity derived from Māori cultural traditions. The chapter distinguishes between a “modernist critical realism” deriving from Ernest Hemingway and Sherwood Anderson and a more formally experimental modernism employing myth, fantasy, intertextual borrowings, and Joycean wordplay. This second strain of modernism has raised doubts about the “authenticity” of Hulme’s representation of a New Zealand reborn out of Māori culture.

They are peculiarly Anglo-American, most characteristic of the traditional history and spirit of their composers of the fourteenth, fifteenth, and sixteenth centuries, and likewise, after generations of contact, made to be a part of the blood, bone, and sinew of the settlers in the remote land. In his 1838 Peter Pilgrim, or a Rambler’s Recollections, Robert Bird noted the abundant evidence for ancient human activity in the caverns of the western country, with the associated ironies of modern exploitation: . . . it is quite plain that the Mammoth Cave was once the dwelling-place of man—of a race of the Anakim, as some will have it, whose bones were disinterred in the vestibule . . . The tribe has vanished, and their bones (to what base uses we may return!) converted into gunpowder, have been employed to wing many a death against their warring descendants. . . .
